Re: power dvd and dvd audio extractor
Power DVD is actually pretty easy if you use your Applications key to access the menus. There are also many hot keys for the various functions if you care to commit them to memory. Just don't expect to hear the actual titles on the DVD since screen readers can't get this information. The best you can expect is Title 1, Title 2, etc. and the speaking of chapter numbers in the chapter submenu. RE: question on MP3 player
Hello. I was also researching the topic of mp3 players myself. I have used a creative jukebox in the past but I don't like it at all. The player itself is ok but I hate using horible inaccessible creative software to transfer files and do other things. I ended up buying an iriver h140 and all I have to say is that it is great! I installed the rockbox firmware and I have talking menus, file names etc. It is the best experience I had in my life since I discovered a screen reader exists for my computer years ago. I will never buy a creative or an ipod again. Well, I shouldn't say that. I may investigate buying an ipod in the future when rockbox is working satisfactorily with it. New English Voice File for Rockbox
There is a new English voice file for Rockbox that seems to work well with the iRiver H120 and the latest daily build. It can be found by going to Downloads on the Rockbox site and choosing the Voice Files link. Then go to the section of the page containing voice files for the daily builds. There is a file dated April 21 named English_Reed_Fast_cvs.zip. And "fast" in the name of the file means just what it says. I run my speech on a computer pretty fast, but not quite that fast. But, if you don't mind fast speech, and you want to use Rockbox with the latest daily build, give it a try. There are also a couple of English voice files dated April 3, made with MS Mary and MS Mike, but I haven't tried them. hi all, here is what i'm looking for. first and most important, it has to be rockbox accessible. i'm tired of getting my parents to mess around with the menus with me. so i need rockbox compatibility. second, i'd really like to have line in capability, or at least externam mic, or something, so my guitar teacher can record things for me and i can practice with headphones and not have to wait around for him to burn a cd or record a tape. third, i'd like battery life over 12 hours, or if this is out there an mp3 that runs on regular double or tripple A batteries. if anyone can suggest anything that meets these that is decently priced, please drop me a line. thanks brandon ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. WMA Encoders (re-visited)
Hi I tried the MS MediaPlayer but to be honest found it to be very confusing. The Microsoft WMA encoder which is packaged with CDEx only goes up to 160 bit rate. Any suggestions? Thanks John -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. iriver in canada
hi all, i've been recommended to use the iriver players. are there any ways to purchase these in western canada without using Ebay, as Ebay wants a credit card and I don't have one. I do have a PayPal account however, so that's an option. i'd prefer to get a used one as i will have to sell off the current mp3 players and md unit that i own to pay for it. thanks brandon ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Problem with the Easy CD Ripper Interface
That's great, Jonathan, I have now downloaded and installed the easy CD ripper. There's only one problem, however. First I should point out that I'm a Window-Eyes user. I can't locate the button for ripping the tracks from the CD. I did come across it when I first launched the program but for some reason I'm no longer able to find it again. is there a hotkey for starting the ripping process? What I have found with the interface is that once you finish tabingb through a list of options, instead of returning to the original tab control, you unintentionally find yourself in a different dialog and tab control. It's a bit like the Lion, The Whitch and the Wardrobe. The only difference being that I've not met Aslan yet. *smile* So, in a nutshell, a great piece of software, it does exactly what I want it to do but the interface is a little confusing. Any solutions? Many thanks John -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I Audio
hi all, was taking a look at the I Audio x5 and x5l. i remember someone mentioning one of them, are either one supported by rockbox? the reason i ask is because according to the manual, the x5 units record from fm, iriver's don't. Also, the x5l has over 30 hours of battery life with a 6 hour charge time. Can anyone confirm or deny this? also, does anyone have a better manual in txt or pdf? the one i downloaded isn't spaced. the words run together a lot. i like to look at manuals before i look into purchasing things, that's why i ask. thanks for any help brandon ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Debating on whether to get XM, some info needed
Hi. With the recent discussion about XM on the list, I am seriously considering getting subscribed to it. I do have some questions that will influence my decision. First, how well do the repeaters work? I am in a basement apartment, and I'm not sure if my unit faces the right way. Assuming there is a repeater in my location, Raleigh, North Carolina, how good a signal should I expect? Could I leave the antenna inside the apartment and still receive a signal? Speaking of repeaters, is there a site where I can learn of repeater locations? I have looked with a search engine, but all I find are maps of locations, which doesn't do me a lot of good. My second main question deals with the boom box XM receiver. Does it have a headphone jack? If it doesn't, I may look at buying the home receiver model, and take it with me to use in other locations. Just curious. I've heard some XM channels before, and I like the mix of music on them. Thanks in advance for any info. RE: Article: Microsoft Details Vista's Media Features
The only concern I have with Vista is will Microsoft limit the codeks we can use? In other words, will we be forced to use WMP to encode our files? Just wondering. Re: Debating on whether to get XM, some info needed
Kevin, I'm not sure about the repeater question, but I can tell you the XM has more repeathers than Sirius. I'm not sure about the boombox though. If you have you antena placed in a window, I should say on a window seil, it should work but you'll have to try it and see. I have had more luck getting the XM signal than I've had getting the Sirius signal. In fact, Sirius recomends you put their dish outside, but XM doesn't recomend that, although reception might be better with XM if you do that but I haven't had too, although I am upstairs and don't have that problem. It might be tricky being in a basement no mater which provider you chose. If I could only have one service, reception considered, I would have XM--no questions asked. Hope this helps. If I can be of any further help, feel free to contact me offlist, and I'll be more than happy to help. I have the XM XMPCR device and love it. Re: Debating on whether to get XM, some info needed
Hi there Kevin! I have had XM for quite some time now, and experience very little trouble with it. Occasionally the signal will fade out for short periods of time, but I have for the most part had good luck with it. I am on the second floor which probably helps-they say though that you should have an east or south facing window for best performance although my north and west windows serve me adequately. I have never had any other satilite service so cannot honestly comment on it. I have a sky box and find it very easy to use either from the buttons on the front of the unit or using the remote. Good LUCK..! [{KF8LT}{JIM WOHLGAMUTH}]. At 22:47 27-04-06, you wrote: >Hi. > >With the recent discussion about XM on the list, I am seriously considering >getting subscribed to it. Re: Article: Microsoft Details Vista's Media Features
I doubt it. There is too much AAC and Mp3 out there and so on. I doubt they could make us convert all streams to media player because I think shoutcast has far more streams online than does Real or Microsoft. If they wouldn't put in a screen reader into windows, I'd doubt they'd make their product the only media allowed, hope they learned from the big antitrust case. - Original Message - From: "Kevin Minor" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list.
