[MlMt] How to fix .plist standard files missing?
HI Having moved MM to a new computer, I find I want to use some key bindings and on reading closely the manual discover this: “Do not edit these files. Changes should be placed in separate files as described further below. The file named Standard.plist is always in use, but Gmail.plist is more interesting.” I have neither standard.plist or gmail.plist in my Resources/KeyBindings folder. How should I fix this? I may have created this issue in copying over the keybindings from my old computer which also is missing those files! I’m running version 5973. thanks Annamarie 802-451-1941 802-579-5975 (cell - not good when I'm at my desk.) ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate

Hi Annamarie, If you read just above the part of the Help file that you quoted, it gives the full path to these files: MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/KeyBindings/ These files actually reside *inside* the MailMate application. Although it's not well known except to developers, on a Mac, an application is actually a special kind of folder. It's very important not to edit anything inside an application because it could break the application. Keep reading the Help file, and you see: It is also possible to create new key bindings files in the following folder location: ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Resources/KeyBindings/ That's where you can put custom key bindings files to override the files that are built into the application. The ~ in the path is developer shorthand for your account's home folder ([Computer]/Macintosh HD/Users/[Your account name]). Hope this clears up the confusion! Re: [MlMt] Attachments open "Read Only"
Thanks for your careful description. Wah, I want to open and edit and save as new name and location, but I guess I can relearn my pattern. Maybe I can teach Hazel to open .doc files in Downloads? hmmm, that might make a mess. So the upshot of this is that my issue is a feature, not a bug. Preview supports a PDF file opening in read-only. And so I can confirm that a PDF in MM, opens in Preview and appears as Read-only. Again, what would you like it to do - open as a new version of the file that can be saved to a new location? That would then become several more steps to store the file - select the new location, and save it - two more steps but certainly do-able) from there as a copy. The workaround I suggest is use the “eye” icon instead to confirm it’s what you expect. Then the “down arrow” icon instead if satisfied with the quick look. In the KeyBindings folder you can create the `Special.plist` file, or you can name it whatever you like as long as the extension is `.plist`. For the functionality you asked about, the contents of the file would be this: { "L" = "loadImagesOnce:"; } Then follow the instructions in the MailMate manual link I included below, especially the paragraph that begins with "You can enable these key bindings in the Preferences (General pane)." Thanks Benny for your message. It’s yet another reason why I love MM. A developer with integrity and transparency! As a non-geek (and a grateful MM user!) what I think I’m understanding is that google might require some type of pricey audit that Benny can’t afford out of his own pocket. Is that right? If that’s true perhaps all of us users could contribute to a crowd-sourced fund to pay for same. ?? Before we jump to that - does someone understand why Google might want this audit? I don’t know how many users there are but perhaps google could not require the audit? What does it do? My three cents. In my case, the corresponding value is "734 146 722 760 0 0 1920 1057". The first four figures seem to be related to x- and y-position, width and height. They do no match exactly here. I guess for example, counting the y-position start below macOS’s menu line (which makes sense). The height value is somewhat smaller than the actual window height (33px). I guess modifying these values will do the trick BUT!!! Please don’t do it until someone here confirmed it’s a safe thing to do. I don’t know if this really works and I’d hate to be responsible if this screws up you preference file. It is reasonable in my opinion to be surprised by a computer saying that it made a calculation error... Update: Message from hosting provider: “We recently completed the migration of your server to our brand new Google data center. This is done by using the details below:” I’ve tried the new setting on one account and it didn’t resolve. Sigh. I wouldn't expect that to help. That error is weird. The only reasons I can see that it should ever happen from the server side is if there's some gross misconfiguration or malfunction. I suppose it's possible that MailMate could have some detail about the server's mailbox namespace or feature support cached that changed when your provider migrated to new infrastructure, making the command that got the error nonsensical, but I though Benny had worked out all the kinks in that over a year ago. Are you running the latest release? IF the problem is MM remembering stale info about the IMAP server, rather than the IMAP server being broken in some manner, it may fix the problem if you delete and recreate the account in MailMate. If the account has a lot of extant messages or dependent smart mailboxes (making a rebuild painful,) you might need to poke Benny more firmly by opening an actual bug report and including MailMate's IMAP session logs. As a temporary workaround, this command line tweak may also work, at the expense of losing quota support for all accounts: defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmIMAPQuotaDisabled -bool YES -- Bill Cole b...@scconsult.com or billc...@apache.org (AKA @grumpybozo and many *@billmail.scconsult.com addresses) Not For Hire (currently) ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
[MlMt] How do I ?
Hi, Asking for help rather than trying something out because I don’t want mess it up. I moved a domain email to G Suites from my hosting provider Siteground. I get email fine. Sending is a problem because I can’t tell which of the email accounts I’m using in the “From” box : they both say annama...@sharinghousing.org. I don’t want to delete the Siteground account because I need the emails I got before the transfer. It’s a problem because if I choose the wrong one, the smtp server rejects it. As I write this.. Maybe I should simply put in the new smtp settings for the old account??? OR? Can I fix the label in the from field somehow? Hope this is clear. Thanks for help. What's interesting is that the dialog box is for iCloud, which is not affected by the SSH issue. I also just now discovered that the dialog box can go away on its own. This morning, the laptop SSH connection had dropped, as has been happening the past few days. MM had the dialog box up asking for the iCloud password, and was displaying "(not available)" for those accounts that are reached over SSH (not iCloud). Without touching MM, I hunted in Keychain Access for the imap.mail.me.com password, and at one point when I went back to MM to check the exact wording in the dialog box, it had vanished. [MlMt] Alert sending from email address?
Hello all, Here is a need I’ve just discovered.. I would love it if when I’m about to send an email from this gmail address I get an alert that says something like “Do you really want to use this email?” With a yes or no I can click. Reason (and maybe there’s a better way) - I have 9 email addresses I manage through MM. (So glad I can!) They reflect different aspects of my professional and personal life and do a nice job of helping to manage email. I use my gmail account for list serves, newsletters, political news etc. Every now and then I inadvertently send an email from this address, especially if attached to a google doc!, and then that person uses it to correspond with me. Sometimes I don’t see an email for days. Yes, it would be good to check which email I’m sending from but I don’t always remember. Got a good solution? Thanks all. Re: [MlMt] Alert sending from email address?
OMG.. I’m so tickled I’m literally giggling all over the place. That was SO EASY! Well sort of. Not being a programmer I misinterpreted the directions a bit so will add this clarification for future readers of this thread. The line that will have the from etc still needs to have conditions = The condition you are doing - in my case from.. Etc needs to be in quotes. I know that this is a natural for the programmers but I had to think about it. I’m SO HAPPY - thank you. And yes got a few more conditions I’ll build in to manage the other emails. See "Custom Message Verifications" at https://manual.mailmate-app.com/hidden_preferences -- it will do exactly what you want! Copy the sample there to get the format the plist file needs to be in; then just replace the "conditions" line in the sample with from ~ 'YOUR-GMAIL-ADDRESS'; (which means "the From: line contains YOUR-GMAIL-ADDRESS") and set the "title" and "details" lines to display whatever alert you want to be alerted with. The easiest way to figure out how to format your conditions, if you're not fluent in whatever syntax plist files use, is to create a smart folder with the conditions you want and then inspect its definition by quitting MailMate and opening the mailboxes.plist file to see how the smart folder is defined there. You can check for multiple conditions at a time, and have as many independent verifications as you want. I have about a dozen, ensuring that I don't send work email from my church-board address, don't send board business messages from anything *but* my church-board address, don't send personal mail to a work contact, don't fail to BCC myself or use the wrong signature (I have auto-BCC set, but if I change the sending address after I've begun composing a message the BCC or sig sometimes fails to change accordingly), don't reply to a mailing list when I mean to reply to an individual poster, etc. etc. -- the ability to set up such verifications was one of the factors that originally drew me to MailMate! I’m unclear on which is for what. I suppose the mailing list is basically community support. I have used the list with some success (thanks!), but for a few of my issues there was no reply. I'm very much behind on going through mailing list emails which were not replied by anyone else. Sorry about that. I would’ve assumed the issue tracker to be the main “proper” support method, but I see there are 1,188 open tickets! Yeah, I'm not proud of that either. That doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in me that tickets are actually looked at. That leaves “direct feedback”, which I have been hesitant to use, because it feels so intrusive. In your experience, should I use “direct feedback” for my unanswered questions? It's not intrusive when I don't react on the other channels. You could even say I deserve it. Users prefer different ways to communicate and therefore I don't enforce any strict rules, but it's natural that * the mailing is for questions which other users are likely to be able to answer, * the ticket system is for long term feature requests/issues in the current public release. (The user will be notified when the ticket is updated.) * direct email is for bug reports, in particular, in test releases and for anything which is not suitable for a public forum. As a general rule of thumb, the worse I seem to be at answering emails/tickets the more likely I am to be working on MailMate itself. Right now, I'm working on ironing out some bugs caused by recent changes (cleanup) of the code. When that's finished, it's likely I expect to have a test release available for the M1 macs. Finally, for your most pressing issues it's quite alright to write me directly to remind me about it.
