Re: Chrome has become unusable

2012-03-15 Thread Tim Hornik
I am using Chrome with little issues with most websites. However,
there are some sites that using Chrome with VO is not an option Maybe
this is just one of those cases. At times I find buttons on pages that
no matter what, neither VO or Vox works. Chrome, like most of Google's
products, still has some issues with accessibility, and going to
Google's help desk is the only way to solve it.

I know this does not add much, so good luck and it will be interesting
to hear the cause and solution.

Mac Mini Home Theater Setup

2012-03-20 Thread Tim Hornik
I am in the process of figuring out how to create a home theater set
up with a Mac Mini, and wondering what are the components and apps I
should get for the Mini, iPad, and iPhone. The set up will be used to
due video conf via Skype, Google Plus, and Face Time; pseudo studio
via GarageBand; and playing (and possibly DVR'ing) movies.

What I need:
- Wireless Keyboard with or without touchpad
- Camera and Mic
- Apps on the iPad and iPhone that I can control the Mini with. (I am
currently playing with Logitech's iTouch)
- Whatever else you all know works and is accessible.

Re: Mac Mini Home Theater Setup

2012-03-20 Thread Tim Hornik
At this point, I have the necessary cables for the video and audio out
to the TV and speakers, along with the necessary networking equipment.

I used to use a wireless Apple keyboard, but did not like the bulk. I
know the newer one have slimmed down, but also looking to see if there
might be a cheaper option that still retains the gesturing
capabilities.

Re: Mac Mini Home Theater Setup

2012-03-21 Thread Tim Hornik
Jason, I looked at the Apple TV's, but decided to go the Mini Route.
The main reason is that the Mini will also become the family and video
storage center. My wife is starting to venture into photography, and
the Mini on the larger screen will be the best way for her to look
over her photos.. Additionally, I am picking up a pair of iPads for
the home, which will act as the laptops while we travel.

I picked up Apple's bluetooth touch pad yesterday, after a long chat
with the Apple Tech folks at the local store. Great tip from you all.
Furthermore, I spoke with a eye doc in the area who is also a Apple
geek. He told me about something he did with some scripting and
peripherals, so once I get the info on what he did exactly, I will
share it.

Re: Guitar chords

2012-04-17 Thread Tim Hornik
Mike, I just searched for Beginner Guitar on my iPhone and his stuff was
the first app. The name of the app is Beginner Guitar. I also just found
out he has published two new apps for the Blues and Licks. I will be trying
them out later, but feel based on his previous works they will be fine.
Additionally, I encourage those interested in starting to learn Blues, to
check out the box DVD set Marty posted at Guitar Jams. I bought the set and
love it. His teaching style is 80-90% accessible, but most of that
difference will be made up through experience.

@CJ, I am interested in looking into your offer as a guitar teacher. My

Plex

2012-04-18 Thread Tim Hornik
While looking for different options to set up my Mini as a home Theater, I
came across Plex. Thus far, I managed to set up the home server on the mini
and purchased the iOS app. While I am enjoying the ability to stream my
media to my various devices, a few areas concern me, though.

First involves the fact that the Plex Media Center no longer is accessible.
I thought the Media Center was accessible, at some point based on threads
from other forums from a while back.

Is anyone using either a jailbroken Apple TV (2nd Gen), Roku, or other Plex
friendly device? I read a few discussions from a while back about Roku with
regards to accessibility, but seen that some issues exist between Roku and
the remote feature on the iOS app. I am looking for something that will
allow me to stream media from my mini to other TV's in my house.

I realize that I could solve most of these issues with an Apple TV 3rd Gen,
but would prefer to try figuring out a solution with Plex.

Thank you,
Tim

Another Accessible Guitar App

Re: Mountain Lion is going to be released today, the 25th

2012-07-25 Thread Tim Hornik
I have about 10 minutes before Mountain Lion is finished installing on my
system. I cannot wait to play with some of the new features like the
notification center and some of the other carry overs from the iOS platform. I
am guessing we sill be spending some time learning or creating some new
gestures and shortcuts to take advantage of the new features.

Happy clicking,

Tutorial for Pages Table of Content

2014-01-19 Thread Tim Hornik
Greetings Everyone,

I am very interested in learning how to use the Table of Content feature
with Pages. I have tried to use in some of my already existing documents,
to create some order and ease of navigation. Unfortunately I kept receiving
a message that the document was not formatted for the paragraphs.

So for my questions:

Are there any good resources on using Pages with Voice over?
Is it better to create a new document then insert content??

Nick,

Thank you for the resource and heads up on the Headings. With my already
existing documents, I tried the reverse route of ToC first then Headings. I
will try to reformat for Headings first then bring in the ToC option.

As for your resource, here is a link for the english translation.

Thank you for your assistance,

Good Call on Upgrading RAM

2012-12-08 Thread Tim Hornik
Just wanted to say thanks for the discussion about upgrading RAM to help
improve VoiceOver's performance. I have been using a Mid 11 Mac Mini, basic
model, and noticed several little glitchy things since upgrading to
Mountain Lion. I am not saying that going from 2G to 8G solved the
glitches, but it definitely improved overall performance and satisfaction.
It was not hard to install once I figured out that the RAM is installed via
a unique apparatus that forces the RAM to first enter at an angle before
needing to push it down to lock it in.

Thank you,
Tim

laughable Samsung tried to go after these patents.

Maybe this will turn the tide in the international patent war in
Apple's favor again...

Gmail All Mail Label

2012-09-06 Thread Tim Hornik
I need help removing the All Mails label from Gmail. I attempted to
follow the various how to guides posted here and on the web, but run
into an issue involving the Google Labs tab in the settings menus. Can
anyone help me out with a step by step guide?

Here is my knowledge on the situation. I need to find a method to
enter into Gmail Settings. Once there, I need to find Labs and click
on advance IMAP settings. After this, I need to head back to Labels in
the settings menus and delete All Mails.

Thank you Tim

Re: Google Plus?

2012-11-13 Thread Tim Hornik
The way this has ben done in the past involves the following. First all users
enter Hangouts with Extras.. Visually impaired users use Chrome and install the
Accesible Hangouts plugin made by Mohammed Mansuer, I believe. There are some
tools that allow you record the Hangout, though I never did that part.

It is possible, to pull off, but does requires practice. There was even an
attempt to create a call center using blind individuals as the operators,
Google Hangouts as the interface, and some other pieces.

Hope this helps,
