Re: DBT To Preview At ATIA DBT 11.2 and DBT Mac
Eikeen, I saw that too and thought, wow! Cannot wait to hear more after this event. I am curious to find out if MS Word will still be used or if this version of DBT will work with the Apple version. Inporting certain files
Soon I will inport some files into Mountain Lion. What I would like to know is will Safari bookmarks retain the folder structure I used in IE favorites. And likewise, when I import the messages from Gmail in Thunderbird Windows to Mac Mail, will I be able to retain the folders used there? I use IMAP. It was suggested I drag all the folders in TB to the Gmail account and then once Mail is set up and syncs, I can drag them to where I want them. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Could buy more voices but was told Mavericks has better ones already so will wait until I upgrade, which will be a while. When I know what I will hear, I get it pretty well. Also have been using the VO w-w command tho it goes faster than the speech rate I set. Oh and the neckloop, yes got those too. Right now using wired. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Hi John, Its not my day. When I boot into recovery, the OS X Utility menu comes up. I see no Terminzl option there. Am I in the right menu? Quote of the nanosecond . . . Re: Navigating in Mountain Lion with VO
Ok now that I am back home, I am going to tackle this again. I dont recall setting a keychain password so this part confused me today and I should not have rushed into resetting the login password. So I need to understand this. What is the keychain for, and is it the same thing as the iCloud keychain on the iPhone? One of the options I saw earlier was to create a new keychain. I take it that is what I want since I dont remember setting one before. And hopefully, once I am done with this,, I can get to work. :) Quote of the nanosecond . . . While I still hear slight pauses after commas, I don't hear them after periods. This makes reading long texts arduous and far less enjoyable. I also notice similar behavior from the iPhone when reading back texts I myself have generated. I have looked at VoiceOver settings and have found no way to command VO to re-introduce the pauses that used to follow after Periods. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is something perhaps wrong with my iPhone? Would the problem be rectified if I set my unit back to its default settings? Re: Braille Esge and Mac
Yes I know, I am new to the Mac and have been trying to wrap my mind around it, having used Windows for many years. I am done with the iPhone and the Edge, made a revised list that I think is current as I tested a lot of it. But the Mac is still new and I want to save myself any unnecessary learning if I can. This is why I have not tested the commands yet (as I did with the iPhone because I have had that a year). I tested the commands from both sources in VO help mode and got more unsure I can make that revised list yet. I found a list on Macfortheblind which is also a Word file, same one? If I was more familiar with the Mac, I could try all the listed commands and see which ones do work. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Re: login and keychain password
Tim, When I first got the Mac I dont recall settng the login password when I set the Mac up. So I reset it in Terminal. When I tried to work on this yesterday, I had 3 buttons to choose. Continue login. Create new keychain. Think the third also had to do with keychain. I have not been able to simply sit down and learn the Mac because things keep popping up in my way. So I will try again tonight. You think I should just login and reset the login again? I will try to do it and hope it works. Thanks. Quote of the nanosecond . . . They say a dog is man's best friend. That's not a recommended behaviour because if your machine is stolen or accessed by someone else, they have easy access to all your personal files. Now, if that isn't a concern to you, then do the following: * go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. * Select Users & Groups. * Unlock the pane by pressing on the lock near the bottom of the pane, then enter your password. * Interact with the Users, Groups & Login Options List near the top of the pane. * navigate to the last item in that list, it should be Login Options. * Stop Interacting with the list then navigate right to the Automatic Login pop-up. * select which user you want to automatically login to on startup. * close System Prefs. That should do it. A few things to note though. If you have iCloud keychain turned on, this is definitely a bad idea as your saved passwords and such are more easily accessed by anyone who gains access to your machine. If you don't use that feature, then it's not such a big deal other than what I mentioned earlier. If the Automatic login pop-up is dimmed, then you did not unlock the pane yet. If this is the way you wish to have your computer configured, make sure that you still have a password set so that your Mac, at least, requires that Admin password for installations or modifications to the system. It will need to be a password that is easy for you to remember since you're not needing to enter it very often. HTH. Later... Rechargeable batteries are best in applications where you would have to replace alkallines often. In this case, the keyboard is a low power device so alkalines are the best choice. Exactly why I am not upgraidng from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as I too am just starting to learn to use the Mac. It makes no sense to change something in midstream. Anne, I dont use Skype but imagine this works in any instant messaging as well. What I hear while typing is controlled by the verbosity settings? Here is what I would like to know. What are the steps to follow when I want to start a chat? Not how to initiate one but how to deal with the keyboard and VP focus. Once I have done this a time or two I should be ok. Some flash on Adobe websites (Adobe Connect, for example) is implemented surprisingly well. Everything is fully labelled and all controls are accessible with JAWS on Windows. It is a little tricky as it uses custom keyboard commands, but if you read Adobe's help documentation it works just as they say. 3. Of course flash is completely inaccessible with VoiceOver. This, however, is as much if not more Apple's fault than Adobe's. I don't really blame Apple, as the web would be better off with HTML5 and getting rid of flash, but it's still hardly Adobe's fault. Apple could endeavour to make flash accessible with VoiceOver in the meantime while we're waiting for wider adoption of HTML5. 4. Adobe developed flash to fulfil a need on the web. Although it was not created with the blind community in mind, and is consequently a difficult type of content to make accessible to blind people, Adobe has gone to efforts to make flash accessible. The fact that many developers implementing flash don't take advantage of these accessibility features is not entirely Adobe's fault. 5. It's a similar situation with PDFs. Adobe has greatly improved accessibility of PDFs and provides great documentation explaining to PDF creators how to create accessible PDFs. If sometimes publishers don't follow these guidelines, again this is not Adobe's fault. Where Manuals are Placed
When apps like Roboform are installed in Windows, its easy enough to find the documentation in the Programs menu. On the Mac, where are they found and accessed? I cannot seem to find what I need on the Roboform site and cannto find the answers I need as well. Roboform is installed and its toolbar is enabled in Safari. But the menu button for Roboform on that toolbar is dimmed. I know I need to get to it so I can sync the data from the Windows side. Any thoughts? Quote of the nanosecond . . . Re: Messages in Mountain Lion
Brandon, Thanks. I have not gotten back to this yet but will. I have been texting on the iPhone and when I have opened the conversation, I only need to get to the edit field and type in it. It does not work like that in Messages? When you say I interact with the table and select the one I want (which I have done), then activate the compose button, I still need to select the recipient? I can understand doing this if there are no conversations. I sure will also try to chat using the steps you outlined. Thanks. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Safari in Mountain Lion
Last night I took a stab at using Safari in Mountain Lion. It got ocnfusing so hope I can get some pointers. First a basic question. When I load a page VO reads it all non stop. In a nutshell,, what is a typcal way to navigate in Safari? I know I will get used to it eventually. Now specifically, I had bought an app and need to go find it and see where it went. I went to the Purchases tab and there were 4 apps that need attention (not siftware yupdates but something about Apple needing to verify eligibility). I think there was an accept button to act on the 4 apps but could not land on it. Then the app I paid for last night. I got lost while verifying my Apple ID since it was the first time used on the Mac. Straightened that out. Now I need to know how this process is handled, when one buys an app on the Mac. Need to buy another one later so would like to learn what to expect so its smooth sailing. Part of this learning curve is knowing how to navigate a web page. Thanks for any assistance in this regard.
