Re: Erasing drive formatted for Windows

2022-12-23 Thread Maurice A. mines
Hi if this drive is for windows on a pc, Ntfs is the only option. Also
that drive if it is butting windows, the drive layout must be “MBR”
if it is just a storage drive, “guid” is fine. I hope that this helps.

Re: Firefox on my Mac

2023-02-20 Thread maurice A. Mines
Good afternoon, if you're talking about your Mac you can move the
program from applications to the trash. If you have to clear it your
system will ask you to enter your password or use touch ID if you have a
machine that has a touch bar. I hope this helps?

Preparing for a new Mac?

2023-07-16 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Good morning all I am beginning to process of preparing for a new Mac. I
currently have an Intel-based MacBook Pro 2020 I am waiting for the final
shipping on a new MacBook Pro 14 inch M2. What things should I be doing to
prepare other than the things that I’m already starting to do. One I am going
through the list of the applications that I use to find out which applications
were require versions that run under silicon. To beginning the process of
switching back up media. Can’t use the old back up media because well quite
frankly it’s too old. Is there anything I am missing?
Two notes, one my email is of a personal nature. Meaning talking about my
personal computer. Nothing to do with the national Federation of the blind at

Big VMware fusion problems. Can anyone help with this issue

2023-07-24 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Good evening everyone, here's what's happening. I have a VMware bundle. Every
time I run it lately I get the error message can't find/user/username
mine/Windows 11 Pro. Dot ISO. What's going on here Mark the other issue is my
older virtual machine can't be used because it was done on a different
iteration of my Mac meaning the keychain that it was done under can't be used
to recover the password. So that's not working. Paragraph I guess my running
question is should I take the time to go back and rebuild my entire virtual
machine?

Continuing to prepare for the new machine. I hope everyone is well? Please be
aware that I'm dictating this to my phone. So here's hoping that it's
understandable?

PS does the beta users group still exist? Meaning the email list? Starting my
summer of beta testing. So far it's just my phone and the computer. After the
Watch fiasco a couple of years ago, I'm not willing to put my watch in beta
unless I find out that the beta is OK and they didn't take speech out for beta
test purposes.

that it is it is a desktop replacement nothing to do with mobile computing at

for dictation, thin I will use a virtual Windows installation, to allow
me to due that.

Re: Pairing/Connecting Braille Display to Mac Book Air.

2023-09-23 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hi, all you need to do is go into utilities and go to voiceover utilities underneath that you will find options go down to braille go to the fourth tab which is displays and you can start the pairing process there. Please follow whatever your displays manual says it’s a procedure for setting up Bluetooth braille. I hope this helps. I have had to do this myself personally. I went from an old Intel MacBook Pro, to a new M2 MacBook Pro. The only issues I am having unfortunately is I can’t get my braille display to play along when using a virtual windows machine. But I have had good comments about  Mac dictation. Because I have a written _expression_ disorder on top of being deaf blind. So I rely on braille heavily. Be well everyone. By the way, I will need to update the signature file. I’m going to write the best email address List to reach me at. But don’t send anything to the email listed in the signature block. I will be working on updating that today.  My new persnale email  address is maur...@maurice-amines.com. My Nfb Deafbl Division email address is presidentdeafbl...@maurice-amines.com. Have a great  Saturday everyone.Sent from my iPhone. Email, mmi...@mauricemines.org  text number 661-868-9647.Fax no 661-449-3746.President, National Federation of the blind Deafblind division. Now, I want to connect it to a Mac Book Air running most recent version of OS. I cannot remember where I need to go to get this pairing done. I looked under VO utilities and was unable to locate Braille settings/displays. I also tried system preferences under Bluetooth but I was not seeing anything that sounded like the right setting choices. Also, does it matter that the Brailliant Bi X 40 is currently set to use with my Mac Book Pro? That is, it is not running at the same time I’m trying to pair it with the Air, but it is setup and works correctly with the Pro when I want to use it there. I hope that makes sense. Any pointers to get me in the correct place are appreciated. Eileen

A forworword email that I tried to send from my iPhone. Please read below, eny help wood be greatly aprishated?

2023-10-12 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hello, my subject line says it all. I currently am using avast. But it is
starting to cost some problems. It says there is a file that needs my
attention. Despite all efforts to get the file deleted the program still
warrants making email let’s just say, far from being enjoyable. In fact, it’s
struggle to get anything done at times. What would be a good product to switch
to? Or should I just uninstall the product? Do a time machine restore and
reinstall the product? Does anyone on this list? Have any good suggestions is
what could be helpful, more accessible, and user-friendly? There in mind,
however that this is my M2 Mac. so it can’t run on it anything but an M2
platform because as I’ve noticed there is a difference some software titles no
problem but others big problem. I hope this email finds everyone well and
please be aware it is very early here in the Pacific time zone, and I am
dictating this to my phone, because of the issues that I have mentioned above.
Also, please be aware that this is the first time I’ve view the new signature

Hello everyone, a meeting that I’ve been attending for a very long time. The
host has decided that she wants to go in a different direction. She wants to
use Microsoft teams is this even usable with voiceover? I am wanting to make
certain that it is and if it’s not, how do I address it? Definitely looking for
some suggestions and potential answers. I’m doing this for before I have the

Parallels desktop for Mac frustrations.

2023-11-16 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hello everyone, I'm writing because I'm extremely frustrated with many issues
in this software. The largest issue that I'm experiencing is the problem
software not recognizing any comports. I think this is a function of my arm
based Mac. I in a licensed radio amateur. That means I must use radio
programming software. This software according to the company that produces the
software should run in a virtual machine that of course is the Arm 64 version
of Windows. This appears to be true on the surface, meaning that the program,
and your programs will install. Unfortunately when it comes to actually
connecting the radios to the computer, because of parallels insistence that
there must be an inaccessible dialog box that demands that you okay the
communications port to be opened meaning it identifies the cable connected
properly but then refuses to actually allow USB data to pass.

My question to the group is if the time to go back to VMware? Will VMware run
better when it comes to dealing with USB cable communication?

Two a completely different frustration. It appears that I cannot do anything
without the ubiquitous search box from popping up. Not to mention when the
search box isn't popping up, Microsoft teams takes its place. The only
workaround that I found it seems to be effective for these two situations is to
turn voiceover, and interact with the OS X portion of the computer. Meaning
that I go back to doing things on my Mac, meaning going between Windows.
Navigating between Windows that are open using voiceover. This approach works
about 90% of the time. The other approach is that if there are too many
applications open, and my MacBook Pro begins to freeze, I can go over to the
force quit applet, and pick the application that is causing all the trouble and
forcibly stop it from running.

The final frustration occurs when I even attempt to which out to the company
for technical support. While I have no problem with "signing in" it would be
nice if my only option were not to have a chat and then t. Just simply because
most of the time those chat clients are not accessible when one uses either
voiceover, or jaws

So far, it appears that the only positive take away is the fact that I can use
dictation software without too many problems.

I am curious to know what people on the list thank you? Just for the record, I
have the professional addition of parallels desktop for Mac. I am currently
running Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1 on aM2 Mac.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom regarding everything I've dictated about?
That brings me to the end of this, if there's something that has been written
about that dictation software did not catch, please ask me what did I really
intend to say. I will be happy to clear up any unintended errors that the
dictation software they have created.

Sincerely Maurice mines.

Re: sd card reader

2023-12-07 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hello, Apple makes A Multi card Reading device, that can read both that
standard SD cards, and the micro SD cards as well. The other things that are
included in this Device is A old style USB port, one thunderbolt port, and HDMI
port period when I purchased it it was roughly $74 US. If you purchased a
MacBook it will look like A tiny MacBook only it's a card reader. Because it is
made with the same aluminum that all MacBooks are made of. Hope this helps.

Re: Will Vm Ware run on a M2 Mac?

2023-12-25 Thread Maurice A. Mines
A look at Vm Ware’s site states that under V13 importing a Vm from
Parallels on a arm Mac is not supported. For now I will stay with
Parallels I will cost to much money to install all windows apps, and buy
a retail license. Also Jfw, and dragon are a difent story. When VMware
allows for importing a arm based Mac I will switch.

Re: Using Parallels

2023-12-30 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hi it. Comes down to personal chose. The. Real reason that Microsoft went
with Parallels, is the two companies offices are. Vary close to etch other.
I know that this a vary small thing. But is is true. Both are in a
subvert of. Seattle Washington.

All of that aside, it. Comes down to personal chose.

For me Parallels is. Working out for me . I hold to something like this
if it is not broken don’t go and fix it.

2024-01-06 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hi I think that it is personal prefence. I use my Mac about 80% of
the time. I use a virtual windows machine. I don’t use Microsoft products on
the Mac side, except Word. Everything else in windows. Email for me works
much better on he Mac side, I have different email boxes for personal
email, and DeafBlind division things. I also kee separate email boxes for
outlook, and iCloud email.

All of the above is to highlight how I chose to organize my email for
instance.

Bodom line is it comes down personal presence.

Thanks so much for the reminder on how to get rid of the preview pane. I had
forgotten how to do it and had made peace with it. I’ve actually made use of VO
J to quickly read what’s in the preview pane, but it’s so nice to now be able
to get rid of it when I don’t want messages marked as read.

Either issues when using vmware fusion on a silicon based Mac if you have to use Communications port serial port.

2024-04-21 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hello everyone I have a amateur radio operator friend, who wants to switch from
windows to Mac, this friend however is very concerned that if they pick using
vmware fusion as the software to virtualize Microsoft Windows, that he will
have to stop using" RT systems" handheld radio programming software. The reason
why this might be a real issue is because this friend believes that one cannot
use the serial port cable that that programming software requires any virtual
machine under vmware Fusion. Is this true? I don't run being fusion on my
machine so I cannot answer Friends question.

Here's hoping that someone on the list has the answer, to this question.

Should I buy carbon copy cloner? Is it good enough to just use time machine? Thought anyone?

2024-06-03 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide if just using time machine as a
backup and restore option is better than purchasing carbon copy cloner? Because
my research seems to show that one does the same thing as the other. Meaning
I'm using time machine what would be the benefit to using carbon copy cloner?
Bottom line, is carbon copy cloner worth the $40? Or is this expense a waste of
time and money.

Will time machine Restore my machine should anything bad happen?

All the best Maurice mines.

Re: Vmware fusion

2024-08-15 Thread Maurice A. Mines
I would answer your question like this, I would say yes if you understand these
two caveats. One if you’re using an Intel based Mac, it is probably the way to
go. Meaning it is accessible. If you’re using a silicon, Mac and you are
planning on upgrading whenI'll I’ll macOS sequoia You might want to think
twice about that. On the other hand, there is some good news on this front when
it comes to virtualizing windows on the Mac parallels, although not free has
gotten significantly better in terms of accessibility while beta testing, I
stumbled upon this change as an a significant improvement. I think for now it
is probably best if one can to switch to parallels just simply because the
accessibility like I said is greatly improved. I know some will have other
concerns. But my concerns about it accessibility in parallels certainly somehow
someway got hurt.

A word about my signature. I want to stress the comments about our mine they
don’t reflect my NFB signature. So just to be clear these are my personal
thoughts. They don’t have anything to do with The National Federation of the
Blind, or the deaf blind division. Note number two just be aware that I am
dictating this to my phone. So here’s hoping that the dictation turns out OK.

The followup to my post this morning.

2024-08-15 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Good morning everyone, I wanna explain it my comments earlier today. The first
issue with being more infusion currently is it appears that Broadcom is in the
process of closing being fusion as a product down, removing it from the
marketplace. The company appears want to focus on corporate infrastructure
because that's where they're making money. I have received emails from the
divestiture office, which means in British business terms means liquidate as
enclosed down. The email discusses what they're going to do with my "personal
data apparently under European law they have to tell you that they're holding
this and will use it for marketing purposes. But the email if I am remembering
it clearly indicate that the product will go away but my day is being mine
while they close this all down apparently. One other sign that this may need me
the case is that the minute I moved to start beta testing Mac OS sequoia being
fusion stopped working almost completely. And I'm not sure as I mentioned
earlier in this email that.com wants to put any resources
into keeping a product alive that apparently isn't making the money.

On the other hand Parallels accessibility has gotten significantly better for
us. The accessibility issues that led me to switch from parallels to being more
fusion have disappeared almost. One accessibility with jaws for windows Version
2024 seems to work and 98% of the case is where I use it. The only issue
appears to be is when Microsoft Outlook, there seems to be a issue where
outlook is collapsed and I can't get it expanded you know to focus on each
agenda message easily. Although it appears that I can track this by using
the”Vo” keys. When it comes to NVDA there appears to be no real issues. In
terms of being able to use that window screen reader as a back up solution.

The only parallels issue that I've noticed is that sometimes applications
appear in different windows, so one must use the dock to move between the
windows Applications if they were actual Mac applications in order to gain
focus on the active application. But the way to stop applications, is to bring
up the Force quit window, and then pick the windows application that you wish
to force quit. It seems to work 100% of the time. In other words what I'm
trying to say here is when using parallels it functions like windows but you
should always remember your voiceover key strokes. In addition you need to
remember how to manage, and or force quit Applications in terms of the manner
one would quit one away applications.

Another Plus for us, is the fact that you can login into windows in the same
manner you log into your Mac if you have touch ID. The company has made a
process for buying use your touch ID to automatically enter your Windows
password. This means that you're like me and I've had to demonstrate using
windows in a virtual machine you don't have to have people watching you enter
your password and windows. All they see is you using the touch ID key. I do
realize that this is not a free option, it's in fact $120 US per year. If
you're using a silicon Mac this apparently appears to be the only option for
paying for parallels, but they do issue updates which of course means that are
granted free during the life of your subscription. Overall things are very
accessible. Bottom line for now if you have a silicone based Mac in our
planning on upgrading next month in terms of the operating system, parallel
appears to be the way to go or virtualized windows. I hope this lengthy
explanation helps explain things as I currently understand them. Please feel
free to ask questions, about accessibility and how one sucks this up. But just
understand that the question relates to the beta of macOS unless the answer is
already publicly available meaning it's out there in the press or in the
community in general I believe I can't discuss any of this until Michael
Sequoia is released. Which should be I'm gonna guess either sometime late in
September or early October. But much of what is known about the improvements
but the general public is already common knowledge so unless the question
really does deal with something that really is still considered a beta issue
there is likely to not be a problem discussing on this list.

Final thoughts please be aware that I dictated this to my Mac so there are
still may be some spelling, and or syntax errors but this should be
understandable. And as I mentioned earlier this morning my thoughts are
certainly a personal opinion nature that you don't reflect views of the
national Federation of the blind, or the views of the national Federation of
the blind deaf blind division.

A follow up to my post this morning regarding fusion and parallels accessibility

2024-08-15 Thread Maurice A. Mines
Unfortunate my attempts to paste what I’m about to say from the computer failed.

Let me explain the situation that exists right now when it comes to virtual
windows on a Mac. One if you’re using fusion and you have an Intel face mark
and you do not plan on upgrading to Mac OS sequoia You have absolutely no
worries right now.

If you only a silicon based Mac and you do plan to upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia, a
word of caution. If you’re using being fusion so far in beta testing, fusion
does not work if you have a series machine. I have found that parallels works
much better than I have expected. The software seems to work very well with the
current version of Jaws for windows version 2024. And NVDA. There are some
minor issues when using jaws outlook in windows with getting the Message view
table to expand. But I found that if you use the voiceover keys, you can use
that as an alternative to select the message that you wish to read.

About being with fusion and what it appears the future is for that particular
product as I understand it. I have been getting emails in recent weeks from the
The investiture office this I think is British business speak or liquidate,
and or sell assets. The long story short that I’ve gathered from the emails is
that Broadcom is going to eventually close down VMware fusion in order to
concentrate on their corporate infrastructure business they did, however
informed me that some of my personal data is being kept for marketing purposes
if I have any questions, I can certainly get a hold of the digester office.
Apparently, the only emails they want to receive are me staying in writing that
I wish for them to dispose of my personal data. Apparently these are EU rules.
Long story short it appears that being more infusion. If I’m understanding all
of this is not likely to be around Much longer long-term.

Moving back to parallels parallels of course is not free. It is a $120 a year
subscription. But the accessibility seems to have greatly improved to the point
that as I mentioned above the issues are very few. I don’t work or either
company. I’m just a private citizen mentioning my personal thoughts. The
signature that appears under this dictated email, meaning I’m dictating to my
phone. Certainly people should not take this to me that The National Federation
of the Blind, or the national Federation of the blind deaf blind division is
endorsing, and we knocking any product and or service. Finally, as I just
mentioned, I am dictating this to my phone. I have this all written out in Word
on the computer, but as I stated at the beginning of this message, the copy
process did not work. So it is forcing me to re-dictate this entire email. I’d
be happy to entertain any questions that anyone has related to all of this.
Final thoughts here, but I have mentioned it based on beta testing but as you
notice, I didn’t say anything about the beta I can answer most questions
provided that your question pertains to what is already publicly done about the
next version of macOS. If it’s something that I think it’s not public knowledge
then I probably can’t talk about it until macOS Sequoia is released sometime
next month or an early October. Again, please excuse any syntax punctuation and
other errors.

Good morning everyone, this email serves two purposes, one to see if my email
is reaching the list. Two to find out what audio processing software would be
good, accessible for me to install on my MacBook Pro M2, this is because I
recently decided to a clean install of a sequoia.

Any thoughts?

I'm interesting Windows virtual machine Braille Display dilemma.

2025-01-24 Thread Maurice A. mines
Good morning everyone, I am having an interesting bra display dilemma. I'm
getting ready to go on a trip. And I am only planning on taking one braille
display with me.

I know that many on this this use being more fusion, but after doing some
research it appears they have recently dropped all Bluetooth support. So
unfortunately unless something is radically different I don't think I can use
being more fusion with the rail display I'm planning on taking. On the other
hand, Parallels desktop for mac does have Bluetooth support. But here's the
interesting twist, the braille display I'm planning on using is seeing in the
virtual machine. I can only connect to it if I use a pin code. Sadly the
braille display does not allow for the entry of the pin code on the device
meaning the braille display.

The device I think it's gonna be very difficult to accommodate. It's the
braille since six. Can I get to my Mac MacBook Pro M2, running macOS sequoia no
problem! Works great! But if I need anything from Windows 11 Pro, and if I need
to read it and set up attempting to hear it, appears to be a big no go. Does
anyone on the list have any suggestions?

Just so that everyone knows I have talked to the tech-support people in Austin.
They suggested that I might reach out to the list. I've done a little tiny bit
of work with parallels but they said this was a couple of years ago.

The company and I thought I could use USB, to do this. But the USB drivers are
unfortunately meant for Intel hardware. Hence they are useless on an arm
machine. I hope this email clearly explains my dilemma?

Please note that I'm including my signature below only because I'm working on a
lot of things and this email is coming from my official email address. But the
question is coming from me the person, not me the president of the deaf blind
division of the national Federation of the blind.

2025-01-26 Thread Maurice A. mines
Hello everyone, Frank your suggestion would work you this machine or not and
arm machine. The USB drivers available on the manufacturer only work under
Intel base hardware. If one's Mac is an M series, all bets are off. In fact the
tech-support people can't use their surface machines with the braille since
six. They've asked their developer to work on this.

The note above is, constitute my personal thoughts on this. The signature below

Here is a description of the problem, one I downloaded the application from the
official dropbox page. Two I attempted to run the install program which of
course requires me to give clarence. Three of course I'm reminded that it is an
application downloaded from the Internet. After clearing the installation to
proceed the program starts and tells me it's downloading. I get the message
"content is empty" then it tells me it's installing. After I think it is
finished I attempt to launch the program. Again I get the message content is
empty. Next I go into the applications folder to attempt to run the software
from where it said it was installed. In this case of Applications folder.
course the applications folder.

Re: Windows On My New Mac

2025-05-11 Thread Maurice A. mines
Good afternoon. I use parallels on a daily basis. It is not completely
inaccessible. The only part that isn't accessible is when you are attempting to
install a gas system. I would strongly suggest when you do this you use
services like Aria, or be my eyes, you can also on occasion see a side family
member wishes to help you.

You can use any version of windows that is compatible with an arm system. I
have used both Fedora core Lennox the graphical version meaning known desktop.
As well as what I'm kindly using Microsoft windows 11 64 bit of course for
processors. And as I stated above with the only caveat of installing windows
after this installation is done you can use whatever window space screen mirror
you wish I use jaws 2025 and NVDA. The good thing about parallels is that I
have set it up so that my password is embedded in my virtual machine. So when I
must use my virtualized windows in public they never see my machine password
Touch ID is a wonderful thing. Meaning that parallel customizes some Windows
functions so that you can use them on your Mac without too much hassle. I
recently had a display driver issue that Microsoft was able to get fixed.
Here's a hint Microsoft will only recognize machines running parallels since it
is Microsoft and apple's official answer for virtualizing windows at this time.
Yes I've used vmware fusion. Lately that window manager it seems to run quite
slow under macOS Sequoia. I don't work for Parallels but parallel seems to run
much faster on my machine. The battery drain seems to be minimal. The only
drawback, and this is regardless of which manager you use be aware that you
must use USB braille, meeting a USB braille display neither vmware or parallels
support Bluetooth braille at this time.

The good news is my parallels installation does support some USB resources that
you wouldn't normally Think would be supported on an arm system. I mean
licensed US radio amateur. I can use"RT systems" amateur Radio handheld
programming software in the virtual machine. Apparently the arm driver seemed
to work when programming two different radios made by Yasu. In addition I have
one Digital mobile radio, made by Alinco, when is the Windows arm drivers work
very well.

And to wrap this up I do have dragon installed in my virtual machine. When I
need to use it I've encountered no real issues. In fact dragon and faster under
arm, and it runs on my actual windows in to based machine. Just some food for
thought. I hope my two cents worth has been helpful to some.

If anyone has any specific questions please don't hesitate to write me directly
if you think it's kind of clutter the list with our conversation.

Re: Braille displays (was Re: I am done for now with the Mac.)

2025-05-11 Thread Maurice A. mines
Hello everyone just for comparison in order to write this message, and read
what I'm writing I use a braille since six that is going to be a Bluetooth to
my MacBook Pro. My machine is a mid 2022 M2 machine. Running the most recent
version of macOS sequoia. The Bluetooth pairing experience as far as this
machine goes is even easier than the parenting experience that I have to go
through when trying to connect this display to my iPhone 16 Pro Max. It seemed
to the two devices are close to each other, I get the parenting request from
the braille since six which of course is a notetaker. I click connect and the
two devices are linked to via Bluetooth. In fact it is an extreme hassle to
disconnect these two devices sometimes so I just leave this unit connected to
my MacBook Pro about 85% of the time. Needless to say I'm not having any
issues. And because of a hidden additional disability meaning the written
expression disorder forces me to dictate everything when I appears I don't have
a problem when needing to write AUEB abbreviation. I hope this helps. I have
also used the brilliant BI X line of smart breakout displays. Please display
our somewhat more difficult to get connected to my Mac. But still work well
once they are connected I have both a 40 cell, and a 20 cell model. I use these
when the situations require the use of one or the other. These days those
situations are we needing to use my main display for the Mac, but I need
braille in my virtual windows machine. I use the brilliant displays in windows,
they tend to work better in that operating system. But that's just because of
the way I am using them. I think no matter what display you pick be sure it is
one that you're going to use for a few years period this is because of the cost
of these devices.

Here hoping that the dictation has worked out so that this is understandable?
Be well everyone?

Hi you need to. Not use the speakers, use a headset or. earbuds. Thin
dictation will work vary well.
