New HomePods?

2023-03-30 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to try out the latest gen HomePods
yet. If yes, thoughts? Are they worth the upgrade?
TIA,
Donna

A good translation app for iOS

Is there a good and accessible translation app for iOS? I find the stock

Re: New HomePods?

2023-03-30 Thread Michael Babcock
I didn't hear them personally, but it's my understanding and my observations
over an Internet connection that the new HomePods have a more brighter sound,
and do sound a little cleaner. Everyone who I've heard that owns these devices,
loves them and feel that the investment into them is well worth it. Hope this
helps a little! Have a beautiful day and safe travels.

Favorite mailboxes help

2023-03-30 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, I am trying to fix my favorite mailboxes. I want for Command 1-3 to be
inbox, Macvisionaries, ViPhone. Somehow Command 2 and Command 4 are blocked.
They each have a dimmed version of MacVisionaries and ViPhone. I tried the
option of removing them, but that removes the nearest favorite mailbox. I also
tried the rebuild option, but that didn’t seem to do anything.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this.?

Thank you,
Traci

QuentinC's Play room?

2023-03-30 Thread Traci Duncan
If anyone has experience playing games in QuentinC’s playroom on the Mac, could
you pass along tips? Navigation? Voiceover settings, quicknav etc.

Maybe some general tips on the platform. Settings you may find helpful.

Thank you,
Traci

Re: QuentinC's Play room?

2023-03-30 Thread Herbie Allen
The big thing is having your Quicknav off. This will give you a normal
experience and life will be easy from there. The history can be your friend if
you miss something but you have to be patient as Safari will take a few seconds
to catch up.

I want to be able to ask my iPhone, “how do I say XXX or whatever, in Spanish“.

Re: A good translation app for iOS

2023-03-30 Thread minh Tam ha
Phil, there is a Google Translate app for iOS. I don't know if there's a
way to create a shortcut of some kind to ask Siri to translate something
but it goes to the Google Translate app instead, though I've heard of
assistant finagling before so it's probably not out of the realm of
possibility.

If you just want to be able to navigate by word/character, after you ask
Siri to translate something, the translation is shown on the screen and you
can use rotor gestures to read by word/character.

Re: New HomePods?

2023-03-30 Thread Michael Babcock
I have not heard the HomePod in person, but do own a couple of HomePod minis.

I also have 2 of the Sonos 1 speakers. With Airplay 2 it is quite nice to get
the minis and Sonos talking with each other.

Start music in the kitchen and then tell SIRI to Play it in the Living Room.

I'm just using the Sonos assistant on the two Sonos ones that I have in the
living room, and Siri for now is working though I'm hoping come WWDC in June
there's some improvements To the entire experience with Siri!

Re: New HomePods?

2023-03-30 Thread joseph hodge
I love the idea of being able to send messages or FaceTime call from the device I think probably for me the best bet would get some thing like the mini because I didn’t find the music experience to be that great on the bigger HomePod as I said, I’m not a bass head, so it really wasn’t geared towards someone like myself. I’ve never had the issues Donna had with Sonos, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. It could be that she’s using the old legacy Sonos speakers, and I have the newer ones not sure. I just don’t necessarily like the whole HomePod because it’s another link to keep me in the Apple ecosystem as they can’t do Bluetooth or casting or anything outside of airplay. I just don’t wanna be trapped by the wall garden that much especially as Apple continually gets more buggy, and there becomes somewhat more of a reason for me to leave.Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 30, 2023, at 5:28 PM, Michael Babcock wrote:I have not heard the HomePod in person, but do own a couple of HomePod minis.I also have 2 of the Sonos 1 speakers. Accessible Emergency Apps

2023-03-30 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
Today I installed GoCC4All but was unable to register it. Here is
its description...

"GoC4All provides individuals who are deaf-blind with a way to access TV
programming and emergency alerts on mobile devices and braille displays.
Its customizable features make it easy to adjust it to the needs of
people with different levels of vision and/or hearing loss"

I'd be interested in hearing of other apps that may provide this
kind of accessible information. Thanks.
