In latest WatchOs, how do I turn off. sleep mode when I wake up early?

2021-11-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

So it used to be that if I woke up before my alarm went off, I could just turn
off sleep and all was well. But, since upgrading too latest Watch OS, that no
longer works. All it does is turn off the focus. How do I actually turn off
sleep mode, so that my alarm goes off, and my watch calculates my sleep data??
TIA,
Donna

A bug in Focus Mode on the Mac

2021-11-07 Thread Herbie Allen
Using a Mac-book pro 2019. I was playing around with the Focus mode in
Monterey and when adding an app to allowed apps or an automation, mine will
only read so far down the list. In my case, I can get as far as the home app,
then afterwards it says empty cell for the remainder of my apps. Has anyone
else experienced this issue? I have not found a work around.

2021-11-07 Thread doug . lawlor
I'm interested in knowing the same thing. It seems if I do it on the phone
after a certain time it will let me turn off Sleep mode. If I do it before this
time just the focus mode gets disabled.

you can download an entire album from safari using Voiceover, but to download

Have you tried a different contraction table, e.g., liblouis, in the settings

Once you’ve added a contraction table, you need to use the rotor to select it.

12 Watt Charger and MacBook Pro

2021-11-07 Thread Dave Carlson
Anyone know if I would be able to charge a MacBook Pro using the 12 Watt
charger that comes with the newer iPhones? I would of course buy a USB C / USB
C cable for this purpose. And I know that it would charge more slowly, but
don’e know if the MacBook would complain.

Re: Contracted braille

2021-11-07 Thread Tibor Niesner
Yes, I have added a new english UK Liblouis braille table in VoiceOver Utility,
but if I select it in the rotor, the problem with the contracted braille there
is staying.
I have tried remove and add an English table in the VoiceOver Utility, but the
problem isn’t solved.
And this problem apears too if I switch the system to english.
I don’t understand it.

Re: 12 Watt Charger and MacBook Pro

2021-11-07 Thread Dave Carlson
Joseph,

Thanks for putting in this effort. I realized after your first message that of
course, the output voltage for a MacBook charger would be much higher than for
an iPhone. The web page you sent confirms that it is nominally 20 Volts dc.
This is required to charge the MacBook, regardless of what power in Watts may
be listed. The higher wattage for any given voltage means more current
available for charging.
iPhones can be connected directly to a USB port or to their own brick. Whether
that brick is a 12 Watt brick, or the smaller more familiar 5 Watt brick, their
output voltage matches that for USB, which is nominally 5 Volts dc. Having a 12
Watt charger for an iPhone instead of a 5 Watt charger just means that the 12
Watt charger can deliver more current to the iPhone, if it is capable of
handling it.

So my original question was pretty naive especially coming from an electrical
engineer. Just hadn’t had enough caffeine before posting that.

Alexa, Play Some Music: All the Alexa Music Commands

2021-11-07 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Continuing my immersion into the world of Alexa's Music abilities with
Amazon Music as well as third-party services, including Apple Music, I found
an article that discusses virtually all of the Alexa music-related voice
commands now available in the Alexa app and Echo devices from 2015 to 2021.

Originally, I was going to paste the contents of the article directly into
this post but doing so proved unmanageable from a screen reader perspective.

So, instead, I will simply paste in the URL to the article which I am
delighted to report, is remarkably screen reader accessible.

I used both VoiceOver and Jaws for Windows, to review the article before
deciding to post to the group.

Alexa, Play Some Music: All the Alexa Music Commands can be found at:
https://www.smartenlight.com/alexa-music-voice-commands/.

Enjoy,

Mark

Re: Contracted braille

2021-11-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
hello
Yes you could try asking Apple Accessibility support, but often they are
generalist that don't know the specifics of braille tables. What are the issues
you are seeing? Unfortunately, I know nothing about the UK braille tables,
though I do remember reproducing an error somebody else had. Is it a specific
word that is displayed incorrectly? Or perhaps what you input in braille does
not show up right? Certainly, I have seen some cases with Apple Operating
systems where if you delete or add characters at the start or end of a word
strange things show up on the braille display and sometimes the word being
edited is duplicated. Also, what MacOS are you running?
Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

hello,
I don't remember exactly which folders you were indicating as missing. Apple
mail does do some renaming of folders so that Spam becomes junk and bin becomes
trash. Also, the favorites area in Monterey has fewer items in it by default

Re: Alexa, Play Some Music: All the Alexa Music Commands

2021-11-07 Thread Karen Lewellen

Well, for the record, the posted link works just fine in Lynx too.
Still, I have a question?
I do not own an echo, and if alexa's voice is the one I have come across
from Amazon she sounds rather unpleasant speaking personally, but I prefer
male voices in general.

Is there a way to change her voice if one dislikes the sound?
Kare

Enjoy,

Mark
