mac os big sur: locking the voice over speech parameters

2021-03-23 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hey all,

Just wanted to check if anyone knows if there's a key combination to lock the
voice over speech parameters (pitch, volume, intonation etc) so it can't be
inadvertently tampered with. I keep having some of the parameters change every
now and then from simply doing stuff, typing, switching applications etc, and
it messes up my voice over, making it either partially anounce things. When
this happens I need to restart voice over, and more likely than not, I will get
a voice over that's partially alex and partially the default voice for my
country, australia. This forces me to go to the voice over
preferences/speech/language area and put the parameters back to their defaults.
This is wasting my time and I really hate wasting my time doing this kind of
stuff sometimes at least 5 to 10 occurences deep per day.

I can understand how there are multiple approachesto do multiple things,
but when there are too many key mappings across the system, stuff inevitably
get entangled and these types of unfortunate side effects express themselves in
the most annoying way.

So, anyone know how to lock these parameters so there's no key combo that will
put them off kilter and mess up voice over?

Thanks

Yuma

Sound efects

2021-03-23 Thread Nebojsa Tasic

Hi everyone!

I don't hear sound efects. They are not muted in Voice Over Utility and
output device is set to system default. All in System preferences seems
to be okay. They're also scilent in Sounds Help. What could cause the
problem?

Re: mac os big sur: locking the voice over speech parameters

2021-03-23 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

Hello,
Since you are a programmer I will be brief. The keyboard shortcuts in System
Settings should override voiceover bindings. If this is the case, you could
create a "service" ainautomator and assign a keybinding to it.
My second idea is simpler but not the solution you asked for. SAVE your
Voiceover settings and then if they change unexpecdidly you can open the saved
settings file and proceed. I expect you could even create a script that saves
VO settings oat a regular interval.

Reading email in Two Voices

2021-03-23 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

This is the second time that I tried to send an email via Mac. While I was
typing, my typed text was read by two voices. I mean, for instance, my
default voice is Samantha Compact. My typed text by two Samanthas at the
same time. How can I get rid off this double voice, please?

Thanks!

Hey John,

Thanks for the suggestions. I might try the first option. Do you know where I
can get the list of commands assigned to the various voice over controls? I
tried vo h then commands help to get to the speech parameter changes, but I
don't see anything assigned to them.

Cheers,

Someone may have a better answer, but I think what you want to fix is the
Spoken content under accessibility. Make sure that voice is set to the one you

The only way I have seen to adjust Voices is with the vo-command-shift arrow

Re: Reading email in Two Voices

2021-03-23 Thread Brad Snyder
Try this, and see if this corrects the problem:
1. Go to System Preferences > Accessibility.
2. Select Speech from the Accessibility Features table.
3. Make sure all the boxes in this section are unchecked.

Since you are using VoiceOver, you do not need to use any of these features.

HTH.

Re: Reading email in Two Voices

2021-03-23 Thread Jonathan Cohn
After one upgrade I did experience something like this that I was only able to
correct by completely reseting my VO settings in the file menu of VoiceOver
utility.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

mac os big sur: selected announcements overdose

2021-03-23 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi all,

So I'm eeking out all the things that annoy me during my work using vo on the
mac.

I have one sort of last annoyance currently which is sticky, the "selected"
announcement overdose.

Let me explain, when I'm in group mode, which is sometimes the best method for
reading through text with math symbols (converted to math jacks or some other
third party symbol conversion tool inherent to most pages generating math
symbols), whenever one of the generated symbols is hit, voice over then
announces "selected", and optionally emits a tick sound to say what text has
been selected. I never asked for this behaviour, and reading through math text
is becoming tedious, so I have to copy last sentence and paste it on a text
window. I don't want to have to do this as I have enough text windows opened as
it is.

Anyone know where this behaviour comes from?

Thanks,

Yuma

mac os big sur: renaming the inbox names in mail

2021-03-23 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi all,

This one is sticking like a sore thumb as I need to play guessing games or
pattern recognition when accessing my multiple mailboxes.

Currently in the mailbox list, all my inboxes are just called "inbox" where
previously they were associated to the name of the email address, like "gmail"
or "icloud" etc.

mac os big sur changed this, and I was wondering if anyone knew where I'd go to
put my mailbox names back in the list?

Thanks

Yuma

Re: mac os big sur: renaming the inbox names in mail

2021-03-23 Thread Barry Hadder
Hey Yuma,
Move vo to the favorites group at the top of the mailbox list and rout the
mouse. This will cause an Add button to appear. Add the All Inboxes group to
the favorites. This should fix the problem.
It is also possible that it is all-ready shown and it isn’t expanded.

Thanks much, Brad.

In my accessibility table, there is no speech.

Thanks!

Try this, and see if this corrects the problem:

1. Go to System Preferences > Accessibility.

2. Select Speech from the Accessibility Features table.

3. Make sure all the boxes in this section are unchecked.

Since you are using VoiceOver, you do not need to use any of these features.

HTH.
