Searching my local music library in iTunes?

2018-02-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I can't figure out how to search my music library in iTunes. I know how stupid
that sounds--just find the search field and type--but it won't work. I use
Apple Music, and searching always goes to that first, which is the problem. I
check the "library" radio button and search, and Apple Music is selected. If I
search first, then hit the "library" button, my search field is cleared and I
see my entire library. Obviously, if I then search, Apple Music comes back. I
have to be missing something very obvious here, but what? I'm on the latest
iTunes on a Mac running High Sierra. Thanks.

Re: Keyboard question regarding Windows on a Mac

Paul,

Sorry for the delay, I was hoping somebody else would answer. I have never used
a bluetooth keyboard with my Macintosh. Certainly it should work the same way
as with a USB where the insert key works as a jaws key, but occasionally things
don't work as smoothly in complex environments.

Re: An F.Y.I. Regarding Apple Music Radio

2018-02-25 Thread aliFaisal
Yes Mark, it is not, which I guess is the primary reason not for me to splurge
on the home pod. I was merely commenting about music streaming services and the
pros and cons of one from another. I use apple music but I also use spotify for
all the reasons you mentioned before, with the biggest being the ability to
delete radio stations you have created. As a student, I have both apple music
and spotify for 4:99, so it works out nicely.

Yes. If you get the Geenie box from Direct TV, it contains total accessibility

Re: VoiceOver Settings Activity

2018-02-25 Thread Alex Hall
Ever since High Sierra came out, I've been experiencing this problem. It's not
every minute, but I often find it happens when I'm working on the Mac. That is,
it doesn't happen if I leave the machine alone but on.

The problem is that it interrupts speech. I can't do vo-a anymore, because I'll
usually get interrupted by this partway along and have to re-read from the
start of the paragraph I was on. If I switch apps and wait to hear the title,
such as the open webpage in Safari, VO cuts off before it gets that far. You
get the idea. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen often enough
to be disruptive. I understand that I'm the only one for whom this is a
problem, or so I thought until this thread came along. As I do run macOS betas,
I've reported this problem and sent stack shots.

I've found no fix thus far. I've used an external keyboard as well as the
built-in one. I never change activities, manually or automatically. I do run
off an archived copy of VO prefs that I've maintained for a few years, so that
could be the problem. Now that I think of it, I should try disabling Portable
Preferences and setting up VO anew, to see if that fixes things. I wonder if
anyone else experiencing this issue is using Portable Preferences?

Re: Keyboard question regarding Windows on a Mac

2018-02-25 Thread Alex Hall
I run VMWare, and keep a USB keyboard on hand for when I need to run my Windows
VM. I use the insert key on the top left of the six pack for this. Yes, the
caps lock key won't work in VMWare, but it will in Bootcamp. At least it did
last time I ran Bootcamp, some years ago. It should work now, too, since the
problem is macOS not passing the key to the VM in the first place, as I
understand it. Overall, though, an external keyboard is the best solution. I
tried mapping my NVDA key to be the accent (above tab) but that made too many
keystrokes too awkward. Besides, this external keyboard is a mechanical one,
and is therefore much more comfortable for extended typing.

 Hi,
The Insert key would be the Caps lock key. You would need to go into the
preferences of JFW and ensure that your keyboard layout is set to laptop.
You can also use a program like SharpKeys to remap a key you do not use to
 the JAWS key.
I hope this helps, and let me know if you have further questions. I use
JAWS on the Windows partition of my Mac all the time.

Man Studied Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze for an Entire Year to Determine Which Is the Best, Travel + Leisure

2018-02-25 Thread M. Taylor
Man Studied Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze for an Entire Year to Determine
Which Is the Best

Most people have their preferred popular navigation app, whether it's Google
Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze. But which is actually the best at getting you to
your destination?
To put the navigation apps to the test, one man spent a year measuring
estimated driving times for each app, departure and arrival time, traffic
conditions, as well as other factors, the Daily Mail reported. After 120
trips, he found that Google Maps was the app that got him to his
destinations the quickest.
Arthur Grabowski wrote about his findings on his blog, and he didn't stop at
simple speed tests. Even though Google was found to be quick, it was Apple
Maps that turned out to be the most accurate. This could come as a surprise
to many, since when Apple Maps was first released, it was widely criticized
for its inaccuracy, and has yet to shake its reputation. Apple Maps gave
8-percent longer trip times but overall, compared to Google, Grabowski
usually arrived 1-percent faster than estimated.
"In other words, Apple sandbags its estimates so that users on average
arrive ... slightly sooner," Grabowski wrote. So Apple users will always be
pleasantly surprised on their trips, or at least rarely be late for a
meeting.
Google Maps, even though it won out in the app race, was not always on the
mark. In general, Grabowski found it was 2-percent slower than its average
estimated trip time on average. Not far off in terms of accuracy, but less
accurate nonetheless.
Waze promised speedy travel times - about 3-percent faster than Google's
estimates - but didn't deliver when put to practical use. Overall, Waze had
slower-than-expected arrival times 11 percent of the time.
"If the estimated trip times consistently predicted actual driving time,
Waze would be my preferred navigation app," Grabowski wrote.

Re: Searching my local music library in iTunes?

2018-02-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Normally, when the Library is selected, it should default to searching the
Library. So, make sure that Library is selected, navigate to the search field,
enter what you wish to search for, wait a second, then press the return key.
I've found that if I don't wait for tat half a second to a second, it doesn't
always do what I want it to do.

check the "library" radio button and search, and Apple Music is selected. If I
search first, then hit the "library" button, my search field is cleared and I
see my entire library. Obviously, if I then search, Apple Music comes back. I
have to be missing something very obvious here, but what? I'm on the latest
iTunes on a Mac running High Sierra. Thanks.

How to remove my Apple ID

Hello,
I am cleaning up an old iMac prior to disposing of it. I think I have got rid

So how can I tell my old iMac to forget my Apple ID?

Re: Searching my local music library in iTunes?

2018-02-25 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks, I'll try waiting. I was pressing enter right away, which would cause
the search to return to Apple Music despite my selecting the correct radio
button first.

Hmm, I just tried it. My search field has a hint of "search all Apple Music" no
matter what I choose, and as expected, Apple Music was indeed searched. Very
strange.

RE: I cut the cord

2018-02-25 Thread dan d.

There are a number of devices and some tv's which allow streaming netflicks and
hulu and amazon video content and some other sources. These
have tv shows and movies. They all have speech.

These streaming services are done on demand for around $10 per month each so
recording them is not required. They can be paused and backup
etc. for ease of viewing.

A small very inexpensive internal antenna with newer tv's will allow picking up
local over the air digital stations. With this each station
has up to 3 or 4 sub channels so many many selections are at hand.

Slightly OT: question about dates in Numbers app

2018-02-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
This is a bit off topic, but I can't think of a better place for a Numbers
question.

On macOS, I need to keep a log for the next few weeks, updated daily. I'm
making a spreadsheet, and I'd like the first column to fill itself with the
current date whenever I enter values on the row. That is, if the first column
is the date, I want that first cell to be populated with the current date if I
enter any value in any other cell for a row. I hope this is making sense. Can
it be done? Thanks!

What might be even more scary. For yall is that apple is actually involved with
some tech for self driving cars.
If you live in at least Scandinavia, there are 3 whelled look a like cars you
can drive with out a license, so the only thing we need is a way to measure
the things around us, which is what i am working on with 1 more.
So hopefully soon you will know of some folks who drives. Even if blind.
Plus, many of us have a sighted partner , where we navigate the person, it is
not surprise to me however apple maps is more exact, ive used it when i was
studying to become a nurse, it have never let me down.
