issues however I've only watched a couple of hours of tv and was waiting til
the weekend to check out movies and music features.

Subject: New tvOS VoiceOver bugs?

Hi all,
I saw a note over on Apple Viss where somebody was talking about some problems
they were having after their Apple TV upgraded to the latest version of the OS.
Specifically, they mentioned that some lists with in the Netflix app we're not
reading the title anymore, but just VoiceOver saying one of 16, two of 16 etc.
they also commented on difficulty navigating but didn't give specifics. I have
not been using my Apple TV all that much lately, because I've been quite taken
with the Amazon fire TV stick. But with the new feature that lets you read
subtitles in foreign language movies, I was all hot to trot to update. Now
however, I am wondering if this isn't going to bring more problems. What are
others experiences here?

RE: Bug in Messages app iOS11

2017-09-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
I must have missed this,

In which app are you looking at here?

If in messages I have been able to go in to edit and then double tap each
message I wish to delete and then at the bottom I can click the delete button
and the messages I wanted deleted are gone, no issue so far with this option.

I’m still using the GM on a 7+

So I have heard that the workaround for the message issue is to delete
individual messages. Somebody said use the edit function for that. OK, so on
the message list screen, you do have that edit function. But if you have two or
three messages in a conversation, you only see the top one. How do you get
granularity to delete individual ones?

Re: Bug in Messages app iOS11

2017-09-21 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Simon,
OK. In the messages app, you have a list. And each item in the list could be a
thread which might have several messages in it, or it might be a single
message. There isn't any way on the message list to know if an item you're
looking at represents a thread or just one message. If I double tap the edit
button, I can indeed select items in the list, but one item might be a thread
with several messages. And I can't find a way to just delete certain portions
that is certain messages from the thread. Does that make sense?

VO Not Announcing Selected Text In Pages

2017-09-21 Thread Ian Robinson
Hi All,

I’ve just installed the latest Pages this morning, version 6.3 (5046) and
VoiceOver no longer announces text as it is selected.

Is anyone else noticing the same issue?

VO+F6 does still announce the selected text.

Regards.

iPhone back up failure due to iCloud storage

2017-09-21 Thread Phil Halton
I keep getting the message “iPhone backup failed, no room in I/Cloud for this
backup.”, or something like that.
I found the culprit in the photos app. It keeps deleted items in a “recently
deleted” folder for a month or so and after deleting several test videos, this
folder grew to over 8GB.
My iCloud storage is only 5gb.
My question is this, how can I set up my camera/photo library to not keep
deleted items? I’ve looked in the Photos app and the settings app for Photos
and can’t find any settings that will allow me to correct this problem of
keeping deleted items..
I could upgrade iCloud storage plan for a pittance, but I don’t want to on
principle.

For me, pressing it once pauses speech. and pressing twice activates cap lock.

Do key commanders have a seperate preference file

2017-09-21 Thread -dan d.

When setting up key commanders is there a seperate preference file in the
library preference folder which storess them? If so which file is it
please?

Or are they kept in the main voiceover preference file?

I'm trying to restore some old key commanders, having them in a file of
their own would make this easier. I would do it from a backup of the peferences
folder.

Any help appreciated.

A Request to confirm a Dialing Option for A T & T Wireless customers who have upgraded to iOS 11

2017-09-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello,

Before upgrading my device, I want to make sure that one can selectively
display one's caller ID.

If someone using A T & T Wireless on an iOS 11 device could confirm that the
following dialing option still works, I would be most greatful:

1.
In the phone settings area, select to hide your caller ID.

2.
Please test this setting to make certain that it is enabled, by calling
someone in your Contacts List. Please do not call a toll-free number.

3.
Select a test contact and prepare to edit her/his record. Type in the
following symbols in front of the person's telephone number in the edit
field.

*31#

For example, if the person's number is 213-444-1212, after your edit it
should read: *31#2134441212.

4.
Now save the change and place a call to the contact and have the person
confirm that he/she could see your number being displayed.

The *31# has been a long-time dialing option for A T & T Wireless customers
and I'm hoping that Apple did not break this functionality with its latest
release. I am almost certain it will still work but I just want to make
sure.

Thank you for helping me out on this one.

Mark

By the way, I’ve been using this feature a lot lately and it’s just incredibly
good, Easy to use, and gives plenty of information about the product.. Sent

Unfortunately, the bar code Channel doesn’t work on the 5S. The product
channel doesn’t show up. I think that the processor or camera on the 5S were
not good enough for Microsoft to include the support for the 5S. I don’t know
all of the details, but it doesn’t work on my 5S. I would be interested in
hearing how the product channel works on phones newer than the 5S since I will
be upgrading my phone soon.

Re: Seeing AI on iPhone 5S

2017-09-21 Thread Rob Bender
I just wanted to add that the short text and document
Channels seem to work well on my 5S and I use the app to check my mail. If I
need better recognition, then I would use KNFB Reader or PrizmoGo which is free.

Mark's Accessibility Steps for Using iTunes 12.7 for Windows, How To Manage Custom Ring Tones, etc.

2017-09-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am going to cross-post this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries
mailing lists for those who, like me, use both iTunes for Windows and Mac.

First, let me state that I just spent the past hour working with iTunes 12.7
on two Windows 10 PCs in conjunction with an iPhone 6 S Plus, running iOS
11, with the latest version of Jaws on both computers.

Second, there are some initial video driver problems with iTunes when Jaws
is running. Therefore, I suggest that you launch iTunes, at least once,
without Jaws running-using, perhaps, Narrator, as the screen reader. After
that, you should be good to go with Jaws running with iTunes 12.7. This was
my experience on two Windows 10 PCs.

Third, be aware that some Jaws commands, including the Application button,
do not work on selected items in iTunes 12.7. There are easy workarounds
but I just want you to know that if you encounter problems, it's probably
not your fault.

Fourth, be sure to explore iTunes 12.7 for Windows using the F6, Tab, and
arrow keys to gain a better understanding of the somewhat new layout of the
application.

Fifth, As in the previous version of iTunes, selecting the Summary tab, when
your iOS device is connected to iTunes will display the same options as in
iTunes 12.6 including the ability to configure accessibility settings.

Sixth, In order to add/or remove custom ringtones to and from your device,
you must make certain that the Manually Manage Videos and Music checkbox
option is, checked. If you have to place a checkmark in the checkbox, be
sure to hit the Apply button to save this change, okay?

Okay, now to the fun stuff. In iTunes 12.7 for Windows, it is no longer
necessary to actually use the file menu to import ringtones. In fact,
attempting to do so will gain you nothing. (smile). So, to add a ringtone
to your device, using Windows Explorer, copy the file to memory using the
standard windows command of Control+C.

Next, with iTunes 12.7 in focus, your iOS device attached to your PC and
selected, using standard jaws navigation commands, place focus on the Tones
tab, located in the iTunes Sidebar. Oh, make sure that you have iTunes set
to display the Sidebar.

Now, once you have the Tones tab selected, press the Tab key on your
keyboard until you land in the list view of currently installed custom
ringtones. Then, simply use the paste command, Control+V, to add the
ringtone to your device.

By the way, you will notice that, as you tab around the tones area, you will
land on an actions button. You can use this button to act on the currently
selected ringtone, such as playing it.

To delete a ringtone, you must place focus on the particular ringtone you
wish to remove from your device, and press the delete key. Neither the
Application button nore the Jaws right-mouse click will work, at this time.
Even the Actions button will not offer a delete choice. The only way to
remove the ringtone, at the time of this writing is to either press the
Delete key on the keyboard, or press the right mouse button on your mouse
and/or touch pad.

Okay, I'm exhausted so I'm going to sign off for now.

Good Luck and Happy Ring Toning. (smile)

Mark
