RE: iOS Native Twitter App Now Supports Moments, Via VoiceOver

2016-05-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jurgen,

As I do not know in which country you reside, please keep in mind that Twitter
Moments is, at present, only available in a few locations including the United
States, Canada etc.

So, it may not be offered in your location.

Mark

Wireless charging is a system where you beam the electricity through the air to
the device to charge it. Basically, I think it uses the principles of
inductance to transfer the electricity to the battery. You generally have a
matt or area that you set your phone in and it charges while resting. Coffee
shops have this options available in many places.

Well, kind of makes sense if you think about it!

But even so, elmo the red furry creature wasn't a sex offender, that was the
guy with his hand you know where!

The guy should be shot if that's true, Elmo rules.

To those who have not yet posted, please remember that you do not need to
list only apps that have not yet been mentioned; just list the apps that
you use and how you use them if they are not self-explanatory.

Personally, I am making a list of all of the marvelous apps you have

Subject: Very perplexing issue with VMWare Fusion 8
Importance: High

OK, this is on El Capitan 10.11.4, and am using VMWare Fusion 8.1.1.

I'm totally confused here. I downloaded the ISO image of Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop,
and am trying to get the darn thing to install, but am having some issues. I'm
not sure if this is related to Ubuntu, or to Fusion. Let me clarify and make
this very clear. This is not one of the blind related modified distros based
on Ubuntu. This isn't Vinux, F123, Sonar, which no longer is based on that
distro anyway, but you get the point. This is just native Ubuntu.

I elected to not do the easy install, so that this way, I could have it
manually boot to the image, and from there, I could install the OS with speech
using Orca. I have enough vision to see when the screen pops up with the
installer.

I noticed that by default, the window is not in full screen view, unless I hit
ctrl+command+F. Even not doing this though, I see two windows. The VMWare
Fusion window, and the main VM Library window.

If I press VO+F2 F2 to go to the window chooser, it tells me that the current
window is my VM. OK, that's cool. Now, someone told me to make it gain
keyboard control, I just need to be in that window, then hit shift+Tab. Then
to release control, hit left ctrl+left command.

OK, so here's the problem. once I see the installation come up, I'm hitting
VO+F2 F2, making sure I'm in the VM window, then hitting shift+Tab to give the
VM keyboard control. This isn't appearing to work though, as after doing this,
if I hit VO+M to go to the menu bar, it's working. My VM's not interpretting
those keys. What's weirder is, When I focus on the VM window, I here that it's
interacted me automatically with the toolbar, and placed me on the suspend
button. Therefore, when I try hitting alt+windows+S, also known as
alt+Super+S, to start up Orca, it's not launching. I tried also ctrl+S, but no
good. I even hit alt+F2 to get to the run dialog, typing orca, then hitting
enter. NO good. So, I really really suspect that somehow, my VM's not getting
keyboard control. So, ultimately, my question is, how in the world do I deal
with this? Does the VM not gain control right away when you boot the machine?
What could I maybe be doing wrong?

Chris.

Huge Tarzanne cry!

Actually, I figured out the problem... well... part of my proboem. How's that?
I have Voiceover set to be routed through a really cheap little pair of PC
speakers, so that it's localized away from my big studio monitors that I use
when I am doing my audio production work. I have all the other system sounds
set to be routed through my audio interface which has its main out going to my
monitors. What I didn't realize was that the damn interface came unplugged.
Suffice it to say, I! r'really! feel friggin stupid right about now! I am such
a dork! I can't believe that it never until last minute dawned on me to check
that. Deh... And I'm suppose to be I.T. Earth callen Shirlock! LOL! I say
part of my problem as now, when I get to the part of the Ubuntu installer where
I tell it to erase the whole disk, then I select the virtual SCSI drive that it
created for the VM, it appears either the installer is hanging when I hit space
on the next button, or, Orca's crashing, and not letting me restart it.

Anyone care to explain that one? I don't get it!

First,
Ubuntu has a talking installer, and I'm not sure where you got the impression
that it didn't.

When the installer starts, hit ctrl+super key+S.

Secondly, Sonar is based on Manjaro, which is based on Arch. At the end of the
day, Sonar is kind of a spin on a spin. At the core rock bottom of the kernel,
it's Arch. Unfortunately, Arch is not listed as one of the OS's, and selecting
either Other or Other 64 bit isn't helping. I can't select in the Linux
category of OS's Other 3.0 Kernel, or Other 3.0 kernel 64 bit, as I'm not
totally sure what the Gnome version of Sonar uses. I didn't download the Nate
version.

One thing however I noticed is, it's defaulting to building the VM with an 8GB
SCSI hard disk. I'm wonderring if that may be part of my issue right there. I
think Sonar requires at least 20GB for optimal performance. I could be wrong
though. Plus, I thought most drives now adays are SATA, not SCSI.

You need to add your dropbox to the share option. I did this awhile ago so am
typing this by memory. When you have the expanded view on a file click the

Is anyone successfully using Slack on iOS or Watch OS? I’m particularly
interested in Watch OS as I’ve seen the VO focus issues on iOS. Would love to
understand the app more and propose it for some work projects.

reading pdf documents on the web

2016-05-05 Thread Jean
Hello:

Every so often I receive an email with a link to a pdf document in it. When I
click on that link there appears to be no simple way to read the document. The
url for the page on which the document is located shows up in the tab list but
hitting vo space to select it doesn’t yield any results. Sometimes I am able to
read the documents or download them directly but it seems to be a hit or miss
proposition.

Could someone tell me what I am missing?

Re: reading pdf documents on the web

2016-05-05 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jean,

You’re not alone having trouble with PDFs in Safari. I can’t give you a
fool-proof way of dealing with them, but I find that reloading the page often
makes them accessible.
I hate things that behave so weirdly that it feels as though you need to
perform some kind of magic to make them work.

Cheers,

Anne

You will have to fully restore your device using iTunes on the computer.
Additionally, you can't make a backup from beta version of iOS and expect to
work, so it will be difficult to keep your data unless some how you are able to
get a stable IPSW of 9.3.1

Hi Chris. Not sure why this is the case either, but it works and have

I wonder why you'd select Windows 10, when this is Linux, not Windows,
or is that something you honestly can't explain, you just know it works.

Hi

Chris,

I have sonar running sonar mate on vmware fusion. Here is what I
did and maybe this wiklll work for you. When you tell vm what os
you are running, select windows 10 either 634 bit or just windows
10. After doiung thism, you should boot just fine once you boot
up, make sure you select the icon on the desk top that say install
manjaro linux and follow the prompts.

The first couple of screens, you will wnt tto use flat review as
tabing will change the langwage. Matthew

I'm making this a separate thread, as this really has nothing to
do with my other problem I was having.
Has anyone had success with the most up to date version of Sonar
GNU Linux getting it installed within VMWare Fusion? I can't put
it on my Windows machine, as it's a live mission critical work
system, and so I can't chance botching up that PC in any way.
This is why I bought Fusion. Whereas most people wanna get

Fusion so they can run Windows, I actually wanted it so I can
test different builds of Linux.
Anyway, being that Sonar is not really a distro in and of itself,
I mean, it is, but not really. The kernel is based off Manjaro
Linux. I got the ISO, and then in Fusion, I told it to install
another OS from an image, then browsed to the ISO. This worked
just fine. When it asked me what OS I was using, I went to the
browser, and to Linux. I didn't see Manjaro in there, so I
therefore went to Other. Under other, I had two options: other,
or Other 64 bit. I've tried both. Once I do this, save the VM,
then it starts to boot, the image boots just fine, I get the
first little menu where you just wait, and eventually the Sonar
image will load, and Orca comes up speaking the installer.
Unfortunately, at this point, that isn't happenning. Once the

menu goes away, it's hanging and going no further. I sat here
for almost an hour and a half waiting for the dad blame thing to
load, and it won't.
I'm quite sure someone! out there has got! to have tried getting
this to work on Fusion aside from me. I just need to know the
necessary steps to get Fusion to fully load the thing, and let me
install it without it hanging.
Being this is the MacVisionaries list, do realize up front that
I'm not asking for you all to tell me how to install Linux once I
get into the installer. Now, off list, if you all wanna give me
a hand, then by all means, I will take all the help I can get
with this, and will do so very gratefully, but on list, to keep
this on topic, all I'm asking is, how do I set Fusion in general,
and how do I configure the VM individually so that it will let
the Sonar installation succeed.
According to About this Mac, this is OSX 10.11.4, and is a Mac
Mini, Late 2012, 2.5GHZ Intel I5, 8GB ram, 500GB hard disk with
199.38GB available. No weird partitions, no Bootcamp, nothing.
I don't even think I have the recovery partition. I think a

while back when restoring from a Carbon Copy Cloner backup, I
accidentally blew it up. Whoops?
I'm using the USB full sized white aluminum Apple keyboard which
includes the numeric keypad. This is not the USB and bluetooth
Magic keyboard. This doesn't do bluetooth. It's literally just
the standard Apple full sized USB only version.
Anyway, so, there's the hardware.
I'm totally at a loss.
Any idea?
Chris.

Easy to do by using drag drop and move directly on the screen. Have
you tried this?

Double tap and hold an icon. As yhou move it, Voiceover will tell
you where the icon is. If you want to move it to another page, VO will
tell you as it approaches the border. To create a new folder, drap an
icon on top of another.

Be patient, pay attention to VO and you will achieve success.

Hi.
I have one snapshot in my VM machine. I want to delete it so I can reclaim the

have autosnapshot set to off. I have tried both the VM running and the VM
closed. Can someone walk me through how to do this?
Thanks.

That’s my type of phone! Now I’ll definitely get it if that is the case.

But doesn’t the power for the charger has to come from somewhere? So won’t
there be a plug for the socket even though your phone might sit on a mat?

  On 05/04/2016 06:54 PM, Christopher-Mark Gilland wrote:

I'm making this a separate thread, as this really has nothing to do
with my other problem I was having.

Has anyone had success with the most up to date version of Sonar GNU
Linux getting it installed within VMWare Fusion? I can't put it on my Windows
machine, as it's a live mission critical work system, and so I can't chance
botching up that PC in any way. This is why I bought Fusion. Whereas most
people wanna get Fusion so they can run Windows, I actually wanted it so I can
test different builds of Linux.

Anyway, being that Sonar is not really a distro in and of itself, I
mean, it is, but not really. The kernel is based off Manjaro Linux. I got the
ISO, and then in Fusion, I told it to install another OS from an image, then
browsed to the ISO. This worked just fine. When it asked me what OS I was
using, I went to the browser, and to Linux. I didn't see Manjaro in there, so
I therefore went to Other. Under other, I had two options: other, or Other 64
bit. I've tried both. Once I do this, save the VM, then it starts to boot,
the image boots just fine, I get the first little menu where you just wait, and
eventually the Sonar image will load, and Orca comes up speaking the installer.
Unfortunately, at this point, that isn't happenning. Once the menu goes away,
it's hanging and going no further. I sat here for almost an hour and a half
waiting for the dad blame thing to load, and it won't.

I'm quite sure someone! out there has got! to have tried getting this
to work on Fusion aside from me. I just need to know the necessary steps to
get Fusion to fully load the thing, and let me install it without it hanging.

Being this is the MacVisionaries list, do realize up front that I'm not
asking for you all to tell me how to install Linux once I get into the
installer. Now, off list, if you all wanna give me a hand, then by all means,
I will take all the help I can get with this, and will do so very gratefully,
but on list, to keep this on topic, all I'm asking is, how do I set Fusion in
general, and how do I configure the VM individually so that it will let the
Sonar installation succeed.

According to About this Mac, this is OSX 10.11.4, and is a Mac Mini,
Late 2012, 2.5GHZ Intel I5, 8GB ram, 500GB hard disk with 199.38GB available.
No weird partitions, no Bootcamp, nothing. I don't even think I have the
recovery partition. I think a while back when restoring from a Carbon Copy
Cloner backup, I accidentally blew it up. Whoops?

I'm using the USB full sized white aluminum Apple keyboard which
includes the numeric keypad. This is not the USB and bluetooth Magic keyboard.
This doesn't do bluetooth. It's literally just the standard Apple full sized
USB only version.

Anyway, so, there's the hardware.

I'm totally at a loss.

Any idea?

Subject: Very perplexing issue with VMWare Fusion 8
  Importance: High

OK, this is on El Capitan 10.11.4, and am using VMWare Fusion 8.1.1.

I'm totally confused here. I downloaded the ISO image of Ubuntu 16.04
Desktop, and am trying to get the darn thing to install, but am having some
issues. I'm not sure if this is related to Ubuntu, or to Fusion. Let me
clarify and make this very clear. This is not one of the blind related
modified distros based on Ubuntu. This isn't Vinux, F123, Sonar, which no
longer is based on that distro anyway, but you get the point. This is just
native Ubuntu.

I elected to not do the easy install, so that this way, I could have it
manually boot to the image, and from there, I could install the OS with speech
using Orca. I have enough vision to see when the screen pops up with the
installer.

I noticed that by default, the window is not in full screen view, unless I
hit ctrl+command+F.

How's
that? I have Voiceover set to be routed through a really cheap little pair of
PC speakers, so that it's localized away from my big studio monitors that I use
when I am doing my audio production work.

  Chris.

Re: Very perplexing issue with VMWare Fusion 8

2016-05-05 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
BTW, I was referring to Sonar, see my other thread, as far as the buggy
installer. Although that said, Ubuntu's not seeming to be much better.

Just wondering which Ubuntu version it is your working with for your VM?

  Huge Tarzanne cry!

Actually, I figured out the problem... well... part of my proboem. How's
that? I have Voiceover set to be routed through a really cheap little pair of
PC speakers, so that it's localized away from my big studio monitors that I use
when I am doing my audio production work.

  Chris.

I saw how Slack allowed reading Direct messages and mentions but not general

The focus issue drove me away from the iOS version.

Re: turning off sounds

2016-05-05 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hi,
It might be VoiceOver. Check under the Audio category in VoiceOver Utility. I
say that because some new sounds for interacting were added. Also, if that’s
not it, go into System Preferences, click Notifications button, Interact with
the Applications table that lists applications that can send notifications, and
see if one of them is causing extra sounds to play.
I hope this helps,

RE: Reverting to stable release of iOS.

2016-05-05 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Sadam,

Yeah I found that when I wanted to go back to the production release of IOS I
had to do the restore where you

1. Turn the phone off completely,

2. Connect the usb cable to your computer,

3.3. When you plug the lightening connector into your Phone make sure
you are holding down the home and power buttons at the same time as you plug it
in,

4.Then I think from memory it’s let the power button go after approx. 8
seconds,

5. Then a couple of seconds later release the home button and if your
computer prompts you follow those prompts.
This for me got rid of the beta

Hope that helps.

Hi all,

Wondering how to get off the beta of iOS?

I’ve removed the profile but it still says I’m running the beta.

Thanks for any assistance.
