Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

2015-03-01 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Barry,
thanks for this clarification. I found out I named the file
DefaultKeybindings.dict and there’s an s too much. ;-) I corrected it and now
it works like a charm. :-)
Also, thanks for sharing the sources of this cool possibility. That’s one thing
I love about the Mac: the community. And of course the configurability of Mac
OS.
I’m gonna share this script in my german podcast as well.
All the best
Jürgen

always two instead of one video

2015-03-01 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

For some wierd reason, I set my iPHone to record at 60FPS. Then, I set it back
again to 30FPS. Now, for some reason, when I import videos from my iPhone in
to my Mac, there seem always to be two videos. One gets imported in to my Mac
while the other does not. Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it?

Numbers: Auto Fill

2015-03-01 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,

I’m able to auto fill a column for example with days of the week or months of a
year. Works great. Do you know a way of auto filling the column like January
1st, February 1st, March 1st, etc.. In German we write 1.1.2015, 1.2.2015 and
so on. I’m not sure wether you use this order type as well for dates.

Thanks and all the best
Jürgen

Speaking contents of merged cells in Numbers

2015-03-01 Thread Greg Aikens
Hello all,
I have taken a break from the list for quite a while but I’m back with a
question about Numbers. When I merge cells, I would like for voiceover to read
the content of the merged cells as I arrow across my table. Right now the
announcement I get is “H1 through K1 added to selection. H1 through K1
selected.” If I use VO and the arrow keys, it reads all cells as blank except
for the leftmost cell, H1, where it reads the text correctly. If I interact
with the merged cells, I can read the contents.

Are there any settings I can adjust so that VO just reads me the contents of
merged cells instead of telling me the range that is highlighted? Keeping the
range announcement is fine but hearing the contents is what I really want.

Thanks for any help.

-Greg

Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

2015-03-01 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Bary,

This looks really interesting, but I have a couple of questions.

You said ~/library. I assume that's the folder that I access by going to
Macintosh HD, opening it, and going to library?

Second, I was able to create the folder there called keybindings, but when I
tried to save the file from text Edit, I was told I don't have permission to
save a file with that filename. What's up with that?
Thanks,
Donna

Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

2015-03-01 Thread Alex Hall
The tilde (~) character represents your Home folder. In other words,
/Users//library is the same thing as ~/library. Trying to save to
/library (the system's library folder, rather than yours) would have given you
that error.

Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

2015-03-01 Thread Barry Hadder
Hi Donna,

You would access ~/Library by going to your home folder with command-shift-h
and go menu. In Yosemite and Mavericks, you can also make it visible by
checking the show library folder in view options.
~/Library is a Unix path and ~ means everything else after it is in your home
folder. You could put this in /Library if you want all other users on your
machine to access it, but you would need to be an administrator to do this and
I don’t think it’s necessary to put it there.

If you use textedit to save it, make sure it is in UTF8 text format.
Good luck.

Thanks,
Donna

Exactly.
Note that you can change those keys to what ever you want. Although, I would
advise staying away from any combination that looks like “^~”.
Also, the moveWordForward and moveWordBackward bindings are over riding the
special character short cuts option-f and option-b. If you don’t want that you
can delete those lines.

OK, so I've got the folder in the right library, but when I try to save from

Go Pro

2015-03-01 Thread Jenine Stanley
Is anyone using a Go Pro camera system? If so, how accessible is the software
piece on the iPhone or Mac?

I want to get one to use with my guide dog’s harness in some interesting way or
as a body mounted system for me. I’m totally blind and though I have a good
sense of how to set up and use a camera, I’m more interested in the software
piece and how easy it is to use with VoiceOver.

Thanks.

2015-03-01 Thread Barry Hadder
Hey Donna,

First you will need to go to the format menu and choose make plain text. That
will open another copy in text format. Then you should find the UTF8 plain
text incoding option in the save dialog. You will allso want to make sure to
uncheck the use .txt box.

I use emacs and many people use vi, but I don’t recommend you try that if you
aren’t familiar with them.

Hello,

I just created the document in TextEdit, having set it to plain text before
copying in all the information. I then just removed the .txt from the file name
and it worked perfectly. I’m pretty sure that UTF8 is set by default, so if you
haven’t changed that for some reason, there’s no need to worry.

Cheers,

Anne

2015-03-01 Thread Donna Goodin
Hmm. Well, this seems really cool, but I think you've gone beyond my depth.
It looks like I've done everything as you describe, but no joy. When I press
Ctrl-Space, VO is silent, again silent when I press Ctrl-X. I then try
pressing CMD-c to copy, and when I press CMD-V to paste the presumably selected
text, I'm asked whether I want to convert the document to RTFDB. Have no idea
either where that's coming from, or where to begin to figure out what's wrong.
thanks for the help, Barry, glad it's working for some of you at least. :)
Cheers,
Donna

Sorry, one correction, the file format in which I'm prompted to save is RTFD.

Re: Mac DBD Ripper Pro Beginner Questions

2015-03-01 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey Believer,

I have had the same exact issue you are having with DVDs not being recognized,
and it is not th ripper rather the DVD drive on the mac. I did a google search
about this a few weeks ago and you have to go in to some setting on your
computer and reset the drive which I have not done, got to get the time to do
it, but yes very frustrating as very few of my discs burnt from Netflix play on
the mac.

Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

2015-03-01 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Donna,

VO doesn’t say anything when yu use these commands, but the second one is
Ctrl-x-x not just one x.

Have you activated and set a short cut for the service New TextEdit window
containing selection? It’s a quick way to verify that you’ve selected what you
wanted to select.

Cheers,

Anne

I explained this in an earlier post. So, I don’t know if you saw it and
are not interested, or if you didn’t see it, so I will post it again.
What you will be able to do is:
 1. Move the insertion to a point on a page and press control-space to set
 a mark.
 2. Move the insertion point to another point either on the same page or a
 different page.
 3. Press control-x control-x to select text from the mark to the cursor.

You have to do some things to set that up.
 1. Create a folder in ~/Library called KeyBindings.
 2. Copy the following into a text file and save it to the KeyBindings
 folder as DefaultKeyBinding.dict.
 {
 "^y" = "yankAndSelect:"; //control-y
 "^\@" = "setMark:"; //control-@
 "^w" = "deleteToMark:"; //control-w
 "^x" = { //control-x control-x
 "^x" = "selectToMark:";
 };
 "^ " = "setMark:"; //control-space
 "~f" = "moveWordForward:"; //option-f
 "~b" = "moveWordBackward:"; //option-b
 }

This is mine at it has some other bindings that you may not be interested
in, but you don’t need to worry about them.

Now, restart the app if need be it it should work.
You will also have this functionality in most other text apps on your
 system including mail and Textedit.

Note that this will allso copy the page break. If you are not wanting to
do that, there is a way around that too, but I will only go in to that if
 I know you are interested.
 Hope you find this helpful.

 Hi Donna,

You would access ~/Library by going to your home folder with
command-shift-h and go menu. In Yosemite and Mavericks, you can also make
it visible by checking the show library folder in view options.
~/Library is a Unix path and ~ means everything else after it is in your
home folder. You could put this in /Library if you want all other users
on your machine to access it, but you would need to be an administrator to
do this and I don’t think it’s necessary to put it there.

If you use textedit to save it, make sure it is in UTF8 text format.
 Good luck.

Re: Pages and Textedit: Highlighting Text on more then one page

Hello Donna,

To enable the service New textEdit window containing selection, go to
SystemPreferences/Keyboard and select Short cuts. in the first table, select
Services, and in the second table, you need to go quite a long way down to find
Text. To set a short cut, I suggest you use something with Cmd-Ctrl-Shift as
these are not used by default by the system. I usually suggest Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-t
for TextEdit.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi,

You can try pandoc.

It’s a command line tool that exports from html to markdown, vice versa, latex
to html or mark down, vice versa and many other formats.

The command is as follows considering you are in a folder with your original
.txt say /test/ and test.txt

pandoc -o test.html test.txt
where -o is the output to file and last argument is the source file.

it works on unix linux and windows.

Here’s the link:
