Is Winclone 4 usable with Vo?

2015-01-26 Thread Graham Roby
Hi,

I have just bought a new MacBook Pro. I have ccc and a Time Capsule so
porting the Mac HD hopefully shouldn't be a problem.
I have just read that if you use a program called Winclone you can copy
your Bootcamp partition.
I just wonder if anyone has used it with VO and found it usable before I
purchase?

Kind regards

Graham

Re: A question about setting up hotkeys.; Keyboard Maestro

2015-01-26 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Annie,

Heres something that will do it all on the mac!
I've been using Keyboard Maestro to access totally inaccessible areas in my
recording studio for many apps like pro tools and UAD Apollo audio interface.

The link above gets a nice discount for it & the developer has made it
VoiceOver friendly. :)

Re: Is Winclone 4 usable with Vo?

2015-01-26 Thread Vinny Pedulla
Good morning Graham,
Yes the program is usable, however there are some few workarounds that you need
to get in place. The real issue I had in the past was selecting The target
volume in the scroll area. Sometimes I needed sighted assistance. I think now
with Yosemite it does a better job with the area and you can interact with the
area and you're able to select the drive.

Another Shot at Yosemite: iBooks Aversion

2015-01-26 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Hey all,

I've been persuaded to challenge my fears and try Yosemite on my iMac 2011
again, especially for the oh-so-useful SMS proxy feature. Not only is running
it from an external Thunderbolt SSD not a very reasonable measure of
performance, but people here and on AppleVis have said that the responsiveness
of VoiceOver is acceptable, if noticeable. So I'm going to try again. Going
back to Mavericks isn't an option. It pees me off that this iMac is not
supported for next-generation AirDrop or handoff, and Mountain Lion is rock
solid, but Safari is starting to become flaky, exhibiting issues caused by
Apple upgrading it to support the newer version of VoiceOver. So this is my
very last chance to save OS X as I knew it.

But there are two killer areas: Mail and iBooks. Mail is what it is, much as I
dislike it; I'll use Thunderbird on Windows when I'm handling high-traffic
lists, or need the plain text of an email. iBooks really stinks, and I want
rid of it, no matter what.

Has anyone here followed instructions to get rid of iBooks and go back to
iTunes for books/PDF management? There are several guides; all involve getting
rid of the BookStoreAgent process and binary. Has anyone followed such guides
and successfully returned to iTunes? And if you did or didn't, why did you, or
didn't you?

Your input appreciated.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

Re: Another Shot at Yosemite: iBooks Aversion

2015-01-26 Thread David Griffith
I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I find iBooks under
Yosemite very easy and usable. It is certainly a completely different
kettle of fish to the Mavericks version.
The main outstanding problem is that I cannot get the shortcut key for
chapter navigation to work but can nevertheless navigate using the table
of contents. Navigating by page or by 2 pages is simply a matter of
pressing the up or down cursor key depending on what layout you have
set. Command 1 for single page and command 2 for 2 page.

VO A will start reading all the book, control will pause reading and
pressing control again will resume reading.

Just What exactly stinks?
It certainly works better with Alex in terms of responsiveness though.

What's going on is this. IF you already have the license for Audio Hijack pro,
as I do, you are offered a discount for Audio Hijack 3. In other words, it's
what is known as a paid upgrade to an entirely different app. Now, on the
other hand, those who have no Audio Hijack Pro license will have to fork over
$49.95 or so for the license key.

Re: Where are my books in ibooks actually located?

2015-01-26 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Actually, prior to Mavericks, iBooks were part of iTunes. Once the iBooks app
became a part of the MacOS, these books were moved out of iTunes deep into the
users Library folder. When you initially purchase an iBook from the iTunes
Store, you can usually choose to immediately download it or not. So, depending
on how or where the books came from, they could be still in the Cloud or on
your Mac. Purchased iBooks can be dowloaded to your Mac by selecting the book
then going up to the Toolbar and choosing Download or by routing your mouse to
the VO cursor with VO-cmd-f5 then holding down the ctrl key and clicking the
Trackpad or mouse. This will bring up the Contextual menu from which you can
choose the Download option. If the iBook already resides on your Mac, the
Download option will not be present.

HTH.

Still not getting what I want with iTunes on the Mac. On Windows all
the music is stored in its own Music folder inside the iTunes folder.

On the Mac its the opposite. Is this the default where the iTunes
folder is inside the Music folder? All the subfolders like Home Videos,
Books, Tones is mixed in with the music files. Messy.

I may start from scratch. I can import all the media, so how should
I set iTunes to its factory condition?

VO-Accessible non-Solitaire/non-Poker card games?

2015-01-26 Thread Amy Harris
Hi everyone.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any VO-accessible card games? I'm
looking for games like Spades, Rook, Setback/Pitch, Phase 10, Skip-Bo, Five
Crowns, and so on. I've not been able to find things like this for my
iDevices, except for Blackbird! :-) I was hoping that there might,
possibly, be some for Yosemite? Given the luck I'm having, I've started to
doubt it, but I figured I'd ask. I'm working on learning to play Bridge,
as it's one of the few games that I've found a couple of accessible forms
of, but if anyone knows of any VO-accessible, Yosemite-compatible versions
of any of these others, I'd be eternally grateful!

Feel free to suggest other non-card games that are accessible. I mean,
I'll play board games, card games, strategy games, arcade-type games, RPG
games, and pretty much anything else, so no limits on the suggestions.
It's just that card games are my passion, and I haven't been able to find
very many of those other than Poker or Solitaire types of games, which are
my least favorite forms of card games. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions!

Re: Another Shot at Yosemite: iBooks Aversion

2015-01-26 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
iBooks on Yosemite is definitely an improvement over Mavericks, but I'm still
using iOS for my book reading and can't really see any great loss in not having
iBooks for Mac. The issue the silly way it stores your books in the iBooks
container in ~/Library/Containers, which basically makes it impossible to put
your books anywhere but the boot drive, or back them up. It also doesn't
support PDFs (of which I have many hundreds) or custom metadata. In short: not
interested.

Re: iTunes folders

2015-01-26 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Music in your home directory is a general location for music, of which iTunes
is a subdirectory, and iTunes Media a subdirectory of that. In the media
directory, one of the subdirectories is called Music, and holds your music as
managed by iTunes. The iTunes library folder can be changed by option-starting
iTunes, and you can choose the media location in Preferences. To bring most
iTunes data with you, simply make a backup of the iTunes folder in the Music
folder in your home directory, while iTunes isn't running.

To reset, simply delete the iTunes library folder and restart iTunes; in other
words, simply delete the folder called iTunes that is in your Music directory
under home.

Tim,

Thank you for this pointer. Now, considering that I can't find the download
option when I click on the title menu in the way you described, where in the
Users file structure do I find the books? I would like to know where they
actually reside in the structure of my folders.

Many thanks in advance

Re: iTunes folders

2015-01-26 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

It is actually a very clean system if you let iTunes manage the organization of
things like it’s meant to do. That is,

• There are folders in your home directory like Desktop, Documents, Music,
Pictures, Movies etc. These are built-in folders meant for things like iPhoto,
iTunes, iMovie etc.

• within the Music folder, as mentioned by Sabahattin, there is the parent
iTunes folder which is meant to contain all iTunes related media. So, within
the iTunes parent directory are the sub-directories for iTunes Library database
files, Album Artwork and the iTunes Media folder. This iTunes Media folder
logically, contains all the iTunes related media files including your music,
movies, TV Shows, Ring Tones, Audio Books etc.

• If you allow iTunes to do its magic, it will place all media in the
appropriate locations keeping everything neat and tidy. Anything that happens
to be mis-labelled such as a ripped movie or TV Show can be fixed from within
the Get Info dialog in iTunes itself and the app will clean up some more.

• Third party apps that you use to rip media often place things in other
locations, not necessarily logical to iTunes. For example, your movie ripping
app places the ripped movies or TV shows all into the Movies folder in your
home directory. This Movies folder is actually meant for iMovie or other media
creation kinds of apps.

• You can certainly import these ripped movies into iTunes and, as long as you
let iTunes do its OCD organizational thing, it will make a copy in the
appropriate location within the iTunes Media world, and life will be good.
Once that import is done, you can delete the original copy from the Movies
folder.

• In the sighted world, one would have dragged the movie or TV Show into the
“Automatically Add to iTunes” folder within the iTunes Media folder and no
extra deleting would need to be performed. In the VO world, you could cmd-c to
Copy the movie/TV Show, then cmd-option-v to Move it into the “Automatically
Add to iTunes” folder and the same thing would happen without the need for the
extra step of deleting the media file from the original location.

Most problems occur when we try to out-think iTunes and do things in a
different manner than iTunes is meant to. Not to say that this isn’t possible,
it just means that you occasionally will have some issues when managing iTunes
media in other ways.

Hope this makes some sense.

Re: Where are my books in ibooks actually located?

2015-01-26 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I could tell you where they were, but iBooks messes with the titles so that you
actually wouldn’t know which book is which. Another way to download the book
is to interact with the BookShelf and navigate to the furthest right column.
If the book needs downloaded, there will be a download button there.
Otherwise, it’s already on your Mac.

Re: Another Shot at Yosemite: iBooks Aversion

2015-01-26 Thread David Griffith
OK I agree iOS applications can often provide better reading experiences ,
especially with kindle and Voice Dream reader. I think a Mac ebook solution
remains important for people who want to for example, study as the integration
with productivity software may be important.

I also agree that iBooks is clearly not a PDF solution on the Mac so will not
suit you as an eBook reader if you have hundreds in this format. Personally I
have switched to Nisus Writer Pro for PDF as Preview often does not read to me
even with multiple interactions with the text.

In relation to storage I assume this is a problem with purchased iBooks only?
If it is about general ebook reading I guess I go about things in a different
way. For example I download ePub files from various locations, including
magazines from the RNIB. I can open these from anywhere on my Mac, SD card,
external drive etc and iBooks will happily read these from any location if I
simply press command down arrow in Finder. I may be unusual in accessing
comparatively few of my ebooks from the iBooks store.

However I may be misunderstanding your difficulty with storage and the app.

running OS 10.9.5? And then transfer the new MP3s to the iPhone 5S using WiFi
and/or Bluetooth? Thank you.

The rest of the radio stations are URLs.

Audio Hijack Pro & version 3

2015-01-26 Thread Rob

Hello,
Can both versions of Audio Hijack be installed?
I'm using Audio Hijack Pro.
I want to try the new version without deleting my current version.
Thanks,
Rob

boot camp drivers

2015-01-26 Thread Juliette Swiler
Does anyone know how I can get a CD drive running properly on a Mac Book
running Windows 7 via Fusion? I must need boot camp drivers, but I don’t know
where to get them. Thanks.

Re: iTunes folders

2015-01-26 Thread The Believer
Thank you both. It all started when I copied the iTunes folder from
Windows. It was fine but then I started adding those movies.

I scrapped the iTunes folder and restarted it. This time, taking the
tip from Tim, I copied all my media in one move to the Automatically Add
folder. Started iTunes and left it. All done.

When I rip some more dvds I will point it to the same folder.

I never tried to make iTunes work my way, I just did not understand
all its tricks. Always had left the settings alone too.

Will move it all to external drive another day. Thank you both again.

Still not getting what I want with iTunes on the Mac. On Windows all the

On the Mac its the opposite. Is this the default where the iTunes folder is
inside the Music folder? All the subfolders like Home Videos, Books, Tones is
mixed in with the music files. Messy.

I may start from scratch. I can import all the media, so how should I set
iTunes to its factory condition?

Hello everyone,
This is my first year eFiling my tax return using the Mac. I see that there is

filing my return electronically using VoiceOver. Thanks.

Bypass Trash

2015-01-26 Thread The Believer
Unlike Windows, there does not seem to be a way to permanently
delete a file. It goes to Trash then you Empty Trash. Its a good safety
measure but there are times its an unnecessary extra step.

Are either of these apps accessible? Trash X and Trash Without. Or
are there other apps that are better?
