Hello Chenelle,

The back command in Safari is command left bracket.
The forward command is command right bracket.

I personally put a tactile dot on the left bracket key to help me locate this
as I use it a lot for this and things like web spot navigation.

Re: projecting media to smart tv

2015-01-08 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Sounds like you need to set up a DLNA server on your Mac assuming your
TV supports DLNA wifi video streaming. There are a couple apps out there
to play media via DLNA. Found this article which does a nice roundup:

http://mashable.com/2011/02/16/media-streaming-how-to/

another list of players is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UPnP_AV_media_servers_and_clients

I haven't tried any of this as I don't have (or plan to have) a smart TV
but it seems like others are getting this to work.

Sorting Data in Numbers

2015-01-08 Thread Jim Fettgather
This one really has me stumped.
After highlighting a row of numbers to be sorted in either a row or column of
numbers, then stop interacting with the table and VO left arrow to the
formatter group, because this seems to be where the sort options are located,
no matter what I select, the sort now option is dimmed.
Evem doing VO Shift M, and then selecting sort options, I am immediately
returned back to the spreadsheet.
Is there a hidden secrent to be able to sort data in Numbers?
Thanks.

Hi,
try to jump to the head of the table at first by pressing VO + Shift + ‚. It
might be another key combination on english keyboards but you might find it
yourself. There you can choose wether to jump to column head or row head. Then
you can open the context menue.
But in terms of the sorting data entry in the menue I got the same results. I
wonder wether there’s something broken.
All the best

I bought one to use remotely in my armchair with my iMac which I was never
able to pair successfully.

however a cheaper USB model works absolutely fine.

If you are think of using NumPad commander you need to be aware that there is
a slight difference between the dApple Numeric keypad layout and the Windows
Default which exists on third party numpads. Essentially the Windows numpad
does not include an equals key. This is a nuisance as by default numpad
commander uses this as the go to menu key. I have got around this by
configuring the minus key which is by default bring up VO Help as the new go to
menu key. I always use VO H to bring up VO help anyway so this is a easy
adjustment.

Re: iTunes Match: do you keep matched tracks after your Match ends?

2015-01-08 Thread Kliph
So let me get this straight. I was told if your music in your iTunes library
is already in the match data base, that it does not count against your 25
thousand count limit, only songs that match cannot find are counted against
you? Do I have it correct? So for example, I have over 250 thousand songs in
my iTunes library, if 10 thousand of them can’t be found, that is all that will
be counted against my limit? Someone please clarify.

Re: Sorting Data in Numbers

2015-01-08 Thread Phil Halton
In numbers, I sort table rows/columns by the following method. I don’t know if
this will work the same with a selection, but it might. A little
experimentation will tell the tale.

for sorting tables by row or column.
1, position VO anywhere in the table and press VO Shift Vertical bar (the key
above the return key).
2, Press VO down or up arrow to select whether to work in rows or columns.
3, VO right or left to select the desired column heading, or up and down to
select the desired row heading, and press VO space to select it.

for example, if you wanted to sort by column C, you would arrow down to Column
headers after pressing VO shift vertical bar, then arrow right or left until
you get to Column C and then press VO space to make it the selected column.

4, bring up the context menu with VO shift M.
5, arrow down through the menu and select the desired sort option.
6, exit the headers and return to the normal table mode by pressing VO shift
vertical bar again.

This procedure sorts the entire table by either rows or columns. To sort a
subset of rows/columns in a table, you would first select the rows/columns to
be sorted, and then go into the sort/filter inspector. in there you would add
the row or column you wish to sort by by pressing the “add” button, and then
you can set sort options in the scroll area before actually doing the sort by
pressing the “sort now” button.

I just messed around with this a little and I don’t believe you can sort just a
selection of data in a table row or column. That is, the entire row or column
will be included in the sort action with the selected field being the sort key.
Hope this all makes sense.

Latest Pages and Numbers updates, anything broken?

2015-01-08 Thread Phil Halton
Has any brave soul upgraded to the latest Pages and Numbers Versions released
today? Did they break anything? I’m very timid about upgrading these two apps
as I am reliant on them working as expected or better - but not worse - I don’t
like surprises.

Re: tweet bot

2015-01-08 Thread Portia Scott
Hello there,

The last time I tried tweet bot, if I remember correctly it was not very
accessible. I could be wrong, I've tried many Twitter apps. But who knows. It
might just be accessible for you. At least, I think I remember trying tweet
bot. Although it was a long time ago.

Is Setting Styles Fixed in Latest Pages?

2015-01-08 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I don't use Pages much, but I like to keep up on where it is compared to other
productivity solutions. So, did the update released today (Jan 08, 2015) fix
the problem where VO users couldn't set styles without resorting to mouse
tricks? Are there any other VO improvements?

Re: Bluetooth Numeric Keypad

2015-01-08 Thread David Griffith
Afraid not. It was second hand on eBay but I remember that there were not that
many bluetooth models which claimed to be Mac compatible.
In fact I think I found only one model which claimed it would definitely work
on the mac.

WhenI looked the bluetooth option was seriously more expensive than USB. I paid
£19 for my non working second hand option but a new version would have set me
back about £40 at the time.
The USB model I bought was I think from memory £6 or £7. It was certainly under
£10 and as I say it worked instantly unlike the grief with the bluetooth
version. This product made no mention of support for the mac and I gambled on
buying it, but it worked anyway. ..

Hopefully you will have more success in sourcing a reasonably priced bluetooth
option.

Re: Audio Book Builder transferring books

2015-01-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Oops, sorry. On the Mac in iTunes, VO-space on the More button after the
current tabbed items like Music, Movies etc. A pop-over will appear listing
the items in the More category including an Edit button. Vo-space on the Edit
button and check the items you want to see regularly on the main iTunes page.
This will not change the keyboard shortcut but will make the checked items
visible on the main page so you don’t need to press the More button.

You can also customize this so that Audio Books is one of the tabs along

Re: iTunes Match: do you keep matched tracks after your Match ends?

2015-01-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Kliph,

If I’m understanding your example correctly, then you’re correct.

EG:

250,000 songs - Kliph’s total music library.
240,000 songs - Purchased from iTunes
10,000 - Ripped from personal music collection.

Therefore, with an iTunes Match subscription, the 240,000 purchased songs are
available in the Cloud whether you have iTunes Match or not, so they are not
counted towards the maximum. The 10,000 songs that were not purchased from
iTunes, will either be matched with their respective title in the iTunes world
or just uploaded to your private iTunes Match space. If 5,000 of those
non-purchased songs can actually be matched with songs in the iTunes world,
then high quality versions of those can be downloaded for free to your personal
library. If you do download the high quality version, it is yours to keep.
The rest of the unmatchable songs will remain the same as they are on your
local machine and can be streamed or downloaded to any of your devices at
anytime that you have access to the Internet. As well, in this scenario,
you’ve only used 10,000 of your 25,000 song limit, so, lots of room left for
more.

I find that the iTunes Match is especially useful on my iPhone. There’s no way
the iPhone could hold the entire library, but I have full access to it whenever
I’m either connected to WiFi or to my cellular connection. I place a couple
hundred of my more favourite songs on specific playlists and download those
onto my iPhone for listening when I’m not connected, such as on an airplane or
off in no-man’s land where there’s no cell signal.

HTH.

Re: iTunes Match: do you keep matched tracks after your Match ends?

2015-01-08 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Cliff, unfortunately it doesn't quite work like this. All the material
you've purchased from the iTunes Store isn't counted against the 25,000 song
limit, however everything else is, including material that iTunes has matched
without the need for you to upload your copy.
25,000 songs is just a fraction of my music library, so I have to maintain a
separate, smaller iTunes library for iTunes Match.

 Hi:
Cool app! I took my first CD, and created the audio book. It appears
all chapters in the CD track are joined correctly, and play in iTunes.
Now, How do I transfer the books to my iPhone or my iPod Nano?! I have
iTunes 12, and Have iTunes match, but my book doesn’t appear on my
phone. My iPhone doesn’t appear on my itunes via wireless sync.

Re: Bluetooth Numeric Keypad

2015-01-08 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I went searching at one time and got a usb one with a kind of retractable cable
that kind of worked with my Mac but wasn't really consistent. So I've been
interested in this for a while and would also really like a bluetooth one.
Because of this thread, I decided to do a little search on Amazon. Here is the
link to the one I found that seemed to have the best overall rating and the
most really positive reviews. I've also included one description from another
review that I got by searching google. It does appear that there is not an
equals key on this one but that equals is produced with enter and a backspace
key in the top row so reprogramming of numpad kommander would be necessary for
numpad commander. But none of the others I found had a rating anywhere near
this one. But since I haven't bought it yet, I'm not able to say anything
firsthand and you would do well to research it thoroughly before buying.

http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Bluetooth-Wireless-Keypad-MacBook/dp/B00CJKW4WQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1420761164&sr=1-1&keywords=bluetooth+numeric+keypad

The Satechi Wireless Smart Keypad has been imbued with the Apple design
aesthetic. It’s the same color and shape as the Apple keyboard, but it's made
from plastic instead of aluminum. It’s an inch deeper than the keyboard and
1.25 inches narrower than the trackpad.
There’s a reason for the size mismatch: the Satechi Keypad also functions as a
standalone calculator, so it has a 12-digit LCD screen across the top along
with two rows of dedicated calculator keys.

Setup and pairing is simple. After inserting the two provided AAA batteries
into the battery compartment via the latch on the bottom, I turned it on,
selected Mac from the “Mac/PC” toggle switch, pressed the “Comm” button on the
underside, and it paired with my iMac in the same manner as any other keyboard.

Once turned on, you can leave the power switch in the “on” position and the
keypad will sleep when it's not needed; to wake it, simply press the “wake
ce/ac” button. There’s a small “mode” button at the right of the top row of
calculator buttons that will switch the device between calculator and keypad
modes and it works well: my iMac invariably recognizes it as an input device
within a split second of switching from calculator mode.

As a basic calculator, it gets the job done. As a numeric keypad, it works
extremely well. The layout is slightly different than the numeric keypad on the
Apple Extended Keyboard, with the equals function performed by the enter key
and a backspace key in the top row, but the tactile sensation and key return is
similar to that of Apple’s keyboards.

At $35.99, there are less-expensive alternatives than the Satechi Wireless
Smart Keypad, but I find the built-in calculator function to be very useful and
I like the fact that it matches the rest of the computer hardware on my
desktop. If you find yourself longing for a numeric keypad that can act as a
standalone calculator, you could do a lot worse than the Satechi.

The USB model I bought was I think from memory £6 or £7. It was certainly under

Hopefully you will have more success in sourcing a reasonably priced bluetooth

For what it's worth the Apple USB keyboard is a full-sized keyboard and it has
a numeric keypad on it. I know it's not Bluetooth but it couldn't be any more
inconvenient to carry around this keyboard then a Bluetooth numb pad.

Re: Bluetooth Numeric Keypad

2015-01-08 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Yes, I actually have the usb keyboard. It is a nice keyboard but (1) it is usb
not bluetooth) an (2) it is significantly longer than a regular Apple keyboard
and of course much longer than a numeric keypad. Especially if you are using a
computer that already has a built-in keyboard, you may want something with a
much smaller footprint rather than the full usb one. But most definitely, if
the usb Apple keyboard does meet your needs, there's no particular need to buy
a separate numeric keypad. I think the issue is that a lot of people are using
a bluetooth keyboard, not just with iMacs and minis, but also with macbooks,
and often don't want to carry around the longer usb keyboard and have to plug
it into the computer on top of that. Apple used to put out a bluetooth keyboard
that was full, including numeric keypad; one of mine died and the other was
given to a friend but they never worked with iOS devices and I don't know for
sure if they still work with newer Macs though they might.

A suggestion for anybody who is losing voiceover speech in Yosemite: switch to classic mail

2015-01-08 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Hi all.

Ever since I started using Yosemite on my iMac, I have had intermittent issues
with voiceover stopping. I don't think voiceover actually turns off but my
arrow keys would do nothing, vo-arrows did nothing at least not with sound
feedback, and command-tabbing gave me little clicking sounds sometimes. If I
then got vo turned off and back on, I would have speech back until I got into
mail again. Sometimes mail would also be okay, but often as soon as I got into
my inbox messages table, the same thing would happen. At first I tended to
blame it on some kind of bluetooth keyboard bug or on the fact that I switch
between several bluetooth keyboards regularly. But at one point I plugged in my
usb keyboard and the problem still occurred. Sometimes, with bluetooth or usb
keyboard, I would think the problem was gone and then it would start up again
with nor reason I could find

Finally, I decided to switch to classic mail since mail almost always seemed to
be where the problem would start and if I then quit mail and got voiceover
running again the problem didn't seem to occur again until I opened mail. Since
I have switched to classic mail I have had no further problem. It has only been
a bout twenty-four hours but I switched at a time when the problem kept
recurring. I know there are some disadvantages to changing to classic mail and
perhaps I will eventually find something I can change in my mail settings that
will solve this, or maybe an update will remedy it, but for now I am finding
that changing to classic mail seems to have totally eliminated my problem.

thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."
(Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV)

Re: Bluetooth Numeric Keypad

2015-01-08 Thread The Believer
It does not help any when people make suggestions that were not
asked for. In this case, I was asking about Bluetooth keypads for a good
reason.

I have both of Apple's keyboards, wired and wireless. At the moment,
I am using the wired one with my Macbook so I have access to a keypad
when I need it. I am short of desk space so its rather messy.

Bluetooth devices cna be put anywhere or even on a shelf if its not
needed. USB connections can be problematic what with all the cables and
the need to move items around.

Cheryl, that keypad looks nice. I had skimmed over it earlier today.
Maybe I do not really need an equals key but if remapping can solve
that, its a possibility.

Interesting that Apple males a wired full size keyboard but not a
wireless one.

computer that already has a built-in keyboard, you may want something with a
much smaller footprint rather than the full usb one.
Apple used to put out a bluetooth keyboard
that was full, including numeric keypad; one of mine died and the other was
given to a friend but they never worked with iOS devices and I don't know for

disabling voiceover in vmware fusion

2015-01-08 Thread deedra waters
Is there a way to disable voiceover when i’m in my vm? i’ve tried setting up an
activity to mute it but that doesn’t seem to be working. When voiceover is on,
when i try to use the arrrows it doesn’t let me so i have to use command+f5 to
turn it completely off which is just a pita. Any suggestions?

That is the only way to do it. If you mute it, it’s still active. Turning it
off completely works fine for me.

Re: disabling voiceover in vmware fusion

2015-01-08 Thread deedra waters
as a thought it might be worth a way to put voiceover to sleep some how when
you cycle through so if you command tab to vmware it goes to sleep/stops and if
you cycle back to say mail then it wakes up and resumes working. Not
complaining here just suggesting since i know of other screen readers that go
to sleep if they’re needed to rather then staying awake if muted and
interupting keystrokes.

That's a good suggestion. Adding to this, it would be nice if we could do that
for other apps such as the RS Games Client. Perhaps it would be best to write
to accessibil...@apple.com and request this.

Hi, I did it.
But as it was late night, I didn't have time to explore Pages deeply.
So, at a first sight it seems ok, maybe better.
