Re: firefox

2014-12-01 Thread Michael Marshall
hey,
Firefox does indeed exist for the Mac however the accessibility is zero.
Voice-over cannot access menus nor does it even tell you there is a window. I
spoke to a developer from the Firefox accessibility department who told me that
Windows was its main focus in terms of accessibility. Google Chrome is an
option however, under the latest Mac operating system accessibility has
declined significantly.

Hi!
Wow!
Whats the name of that addon?
I actually tried xbmc for windows at a time but it wasn’t accessible.
So i registered on the xbmc forums and asked them if they could implement
accessibility.
The answer was a direct no-no.
But they also told me i could remotly handle it from my iphone.
So i am very very intrested in this add-on.

Hi,

Actually, XBMC is accessible on the Mac. You have to get the TTS add on first,
and put it in the add ons folder, but then it does work.

RE: after the last Yosemite and iCloud update

2014-12-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mark.

After reading your post, I went into iCloud services and, to my surprise, I got
the weird worborling sing you described. VoiceOver does not exactly crash but,
if you cannot see the screen, it might as well, eh? (Smile).

When you get this sound, wait a few second, and then press the Tab key several
times. You can try the VoiceOver Left right arrows but I don't think it will
work, at first.

Once you use the tab key, when you land on the Services table, just use the Up
and Down arrow keys to make your selections.

Thank you for posting about this.

Most Sincerely,

Mark

Subject: after the last Yosemite and iCloud update

I got a notice for a Yosemite update available, and downloaded and installed
it, then repaired permissions. It informed that that my Mac was being set up
for iCloud, and when I went to system preferences and expanded the iCloud
section, VoiceOver identified the “services group.” In that group was one area
of the screen which, when the VO cursor was put there, made a sort of
gobble-gobble noise, which caused VO to either crash or become locked up. This
weird noise seems to go on forever and doesn’t seem to indicate anything
useful. Anyone got one of these weird screen zones, and if so what is it? :)

iCloud credit card changes

2014-12-01 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
Hi:
I'm still running ML. I canot find under iCloud preferences where to change my
credit card info for iCloud storage plan. I even tried in IOS 8.11, and the
account section of iCloud won't let me edit the settings. My credit card is
different under the iTunes account, so changing it there didn't resolve the
issue. How can I change this?!

Re: How to locate and save any and all emails from a particular sender

2014-12-01 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You could do the Select All command, then press cmd-shift-s (or File, Save As)
and save the messages to your Desktop. The messages will save in a TextEdit
rtf document with each message starting on a new page.

Hi, Tim. Yes, I did consider an American civil-religious-calendar marketing

realization that the aliens in charge of the Earth would never allow it. :)
The gobble-gobble noise comes from whatever element is just to the left of the

Problems saving attachments

2014-12-01 Thread Matt Dierckens
Hi all.
I wonder if anyone else can reproduce this bug.
I'm running the latest update to Yosemite, running an early 2011 macbook pro
I am trying to save both multiple and individual attachments. If I have
multiple attachments and want to save them in one go, hitting save attachments
and selecting a destination seems to not save the attachments. The only way
I've found is to select each one automatically and save them to the downloads
folder.
If anyone can reproduce this or tell me any other fix for this that would be
great.
Thank you.

question about Yofukoru

2014-12-01 Thread Juliette Swiler
I use Yufukoru as my twitter client on the Mac. It works great as far as
accessibility is concerned, but I have one question. If Twitter is particularly
active, and VoiceOver continuously says how many rows are being added every
time new tweets come in, this seems to prevent me from reading the current
tweet successfully. Is there a way to have a sound play to alert me of new
tweets instead of VoiceOver constantly saying one row added and cutting off the
current tweet? Thanks.

Hmmm. Very interesting. I cannot duplicate this. When I VO navigate around

Pages - auto page numbering in footer

2014-12-01 Thread Phil Halton
I’ve inserted a page number in the footer of the first page of my document, and
then proceeded to write many more pages. Looking things over now, I see that
each footer has a page number alright, but they don’t correspond to the actual
page order. For example, page 2 will have “4” in the page field, page 3 will
have “5” etc. Some footers don’t actually have a number, but there is a silent
character, like a placeholder, where the number would be.
Are these erroneous numbers just placeholders that will be updated to
accurately reflect the page order once the doc is printed?
I’d experiment for the answer myself, but I don’t feel like printing out a
dozen pages just to find out that the page numbers are screwed up.

sticky in terms of the cursor, and it makes that very odd noise. I ought to
record the noise somehow and attach an MP3 of it. To the right of that, if you
can get the cursor there, is the Manage Services button. *shrug* No idea.

Re: clean install

2014-12-01 Thread Phil Halton
I’m not too clear on your question, but you do this reformat from the recovery
partition. To get there, you restart your computer, and when you hear the chime
sound, immediately press and hold Command + R for about ten seconds. Wait
another 20 seconds or so and then turn on VO with command F5.
You’ll hear voice Fred. select and run disk utilities from the table.
Here’s where you reformat the disk. It’s important to select the right disk
from the table. you want to highlight the disk that says Mac HD. From there,
you navigate to and press the erase button I think ( I’m going from memory
here). you should get options to set the kind of formatting, and you’ll want to
select mac journaled. Sorry Wayne, I’m going from memory, so I’m not being
exact here. You should be careful and don’t accept my word without doing some
investigating for yourself.
At least, this will get you to the disk utilities app in the recovery partition
and selecting the right disk to reformat.

Good luck

Ah, I thought maybe that might be your trouble. WRong way to do it. IF you

Clean Install

2014-12-01 Thread Phil Halton
Wayne,
after wiping the MacHD drive with the disk utilities program from within
recovery partition, you then can install the OS by selecting that option in the
table where you found disk utilities.
You’ll need WiFi for that as it downloads the OS from Apple Servers, but that’s
okay, I’ve done it and it works fine.
Again, wipe the MacHD drive and then install/reinstall the OS from the options
table.

FS:Lifeproof waterproof iPad mini case...

2014-12-01 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi everybody. I bought a Lifeproof nuud case for my iPad mini but I've
decided that while it's an amazing case, it's not exactly what I'm
looking for.

The case makes your iPad mini dust proof, rain proof, snow proof, drop
proof, shock proof, and waterproof in the sense that it can actually
be in up to six feet of water and according to Lifeproofs test
results, be perfectly fine.

Includes case, shoulder strap, and polishing cloth.

Please drop me an e mail off list to make an offer.

Thanks,

Cameron.

Migration assistant question

2014-12-01 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi folks,
Just wondering which method of copying data from one mac to another is most
efficient or most likely to get everything across properly? I have a time
machine back up, with everything checked. Is it best to use this time machine
back up with migration assistant, or try to do it by connecting both macs up
together. I want to try to get my VO settings and all other programme settings
across, plus iPhotos I have imported and obviously iTunes and all my documents.
Any advice gratefully received as I prepare to buy a new Mac and deal with the
headache of getting it set up the way I like.
Thanks

Lisette

some more questions

2014-12-01 Thread deedra waters
I have a really major question of sorts, well 2. How do i uninstall apps from
the mac store that i do not want? I’m not seeing uninstall buttons from it
anywhere that i can find.

Also i’ve got apps that have downloaded to my downloads folder. I’m assuming i
need to actually move them to the applications folder, but how do i accomplish
this?

BTW I seem to be getting along nicely with my mac. I’ve found a couple insanely
useful apps some of which i found on applevis
.:)

I’ve found macjournal useful the most though. I’ve got a few things I need to
track journal wise and i like the fact that i can just create multiple journals
as needed. The app was expensive but worth the price.

I also found an app called my medical. it’s fully accessible as far as i can
tell. If someone wants to check it out and report it’s accessibility on apples
they should do so. I don’t have an account to report it/fill out info on it and
no time till after new years.

The hi lights of my medical is that i’m on over 15 different medications, i’m
in the hospital at least once every couple months and i go by ambulance. Once
i’m done entering all of the data i should just be able to hand my macbook to
the proper people so they can pull the info out of the app. We’ll see just how
useful it is in time.

My final question is this. I’m looking for good and free bible study apps so if
anyone has ideas out there i’d appreciate it

Re: some more questions

2014-12-01 Thread David Griffith
1. To uninstall an app you generally just have to delete it from our
application folder. There are utilities like clean my Mac or App Delete which
offer a more system wide delete service if you require but in general deleting
most apps will be fine.
2. Similarly to install a downloaded app simply copy the app file into the
application folder. Often these apps will appear in a dmg file which you need
to open to access the app file.

The exception to the above is those app which tend to be ported across from
Windows which have names like Flash install.app. Any app name with install in
its name will need to be run like a Windows style program. These tend also to
be best deleted with a utility like app delete or clean my mac.

Re: item chooser in safari

2014-12-01 Thread David Griffith
No Mavericks did not behave like this.
If you listen to some of my Maverick Safari Podcast you will hear how this is
actually an invaluable feature of item chooser whereby you can quickly access
parts of the Safari Toolbar which are otherwise awkward to access.

However what I think you may have done in the past is hide the Toolbar in
Safari which will of course hide these options from item chooser as well. You
can do this in Yosemite as well.

RE: Migration assistant question

2014-12-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Lisette,

I have never made nor used any time machine backups so cannot speak to how it
works.

However, when I purchased my new Mac, a couple of months ago, I simply
connected it to my old Mac and the migration assistant worked perfectly, the
first time.

Since then I have used the Migration Assistant several times and each time it
worked flawlessly. Once I connected the two Macs via Ethernet cable and once, I
connected them via FireWire cable. Of course, I could have simply let them
talk to each other via WiFi but doing so would have taken much longer to
complete the transfer.

Good Luck,

Mark
