Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread David Griffith
You need to use not the inaccessible Amazon app but instead install the
alternative Amazon Music Downloader.
Generally in checking out you need to reject the option to use the Amazon app
and select the option which says something like no thanks use the Amazon Music
Downloader.

Re: Finder Podcast Part 1

2014-11-27 Thread David Griffith
Unfortunately I do not have a Linux setup.
I have tried researching setting up a Podcast feed and it seems that eater you
do it by hand coding which seems a considerable learning curve or you have to
pay for services or apps which simplify the process. It is not obvious if these
clients are accessible.
I do not mind shelling out for a one off app but would am hesitant about
paying out for an ongoing service.
Does anybody know of accessible Podcast Feed creation clients that are free or
low cost and similar web hosting services that are also free or low cost?

I suppose an option would be just to see if Apple Vis would be interested in
hosting the podcasts.

Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread David Griffith
Further to my previous message the link for the Mac version of the Amazon Music
Downloader is
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/dmusic/help/amd-bm.html?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0#

Alternatively if the link is too long and split just Google for it which is
what I did.
I have used this on the Windows side but only just installed it on my Mac.
However theoretically it should work as on Windows it requires no intervention
and simply downloads mp3s when requested from the site so presumably tis
should work on the Mac as well.
I will have to go and buy track to test it I guess.

Thanks Mark. I shall have to keep iTunes open then. Didn't know that. Now,
after fooling with my sound outputs last night, I found that I have lost my

Also, it's so weird because now default doesn't show up on my sound outputs

Also, regarding Sirius XM, if you have an Internet radio subscription, you can
listen to Sirius XM channels through the Radium application on the Mac. This is
totally accessible with VoiceOver, and works quite well.

 Hi all,
I notice that the online signup, and even player, of SiriusXM is highly
inaccessible with VoiceOver. A friend of mine got an offer which
apparently had an alternate form. Since this is probably no longer
available, is the best option to just call?
 Thanks.

Re: Finder Podcast Part 1

2014-11-27 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi David, in my experience, Applevis is always looking for good material and
will take submissions. That's definitely the easiest option.
Others include Audioboom, http://www.audioboom.com
which offers a podcast feed when you use their premium service.
Spreaker, http://www.spreaker.com will also work,
and you can with a plug-in or two create podcasts through a free WordPress.com
 blog.
Best of luck and thanks for your work on these.

wouldn’t it be easier to just open it up with command, shift, K? vo spacebar

2014-11-27 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Erik, Klyph and others,

Thanks for your responses. I’m beginning to find my way thanks to your tips.
I can see that after all this panic I will be able to use the Western Digital
Drive. Shame about their native application but as long as I can use it,
that’s ok. I’ve written to them but I am not sure they care. Shame on them
too!

I have created my own account and I have found my private folder as well as the
public folders. One question I have, when you create an account for yourself
or somebody else for that matter, do you also create a volume, i.e. partition
the drive? In Western Digital speak they call these things shares. Is this
actually a partition? In finder I can see a volume with the same name as the
name of my account and Voiceover says volume. Is it a partition?

Many thanks again.

2014-11-27 Thread erik burggraaf
No, These are just folders in the one file system on your drive. Mac OS calls
them betwork volumes and treats them like individual hard disks, especually
when you use the connect to server daialog to reach them, but they are just
standard folders according to the drives firmware.

You can see this by browsing the files on the drives web interface at
wemycloud.local.

I’m glad you like the drive. I enjoy it too. Too bad they don’t have a 32 tb
version.

Best,

Erik Burggraaf

Yes, I personally didn’t like the app. I used it on mavericks, and it
worked just fine. Haven’t tried it on Yosemite though, so can’t speak to
that issue. The easier way of managing it is to go on the web. Find your

The question is, is their Scansnap software accessible?
I might try Cannon p-215II if Scansnap is not accessible with Voiceover.
The product description for p-215II says it supports Twain on both Mac and

Strange things happen when i copy files on my mac

2014-11-27 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi there.
I’m in the process of making a music library and another for my books on my
NAS. When i have copied some files, the NAS just goes down and some info is
lost. Or it’s not lost precisely, it’s still on my Macs internal hard drive,
however i have a folder by the same name as the file i attempted to copy on the
NAS but it is dimmed and when i try to delete it, this is what comes up: Finder
couldn’t delete file.mp3 because the object is being used. Problem is, it is
not. All the apps that could use mp3 files have all gone busted or how you
say. I’m at a loss here, so if someone knows how to fix this i’d be a very
happy camper.
/Krister

manually managing content on iphone with itunes 12

2014-11-27 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hello,

Since Yosemite and iTunes 12 I'm having trouble using the feature to manually
manage content on the iPhone. Is it still possible to select a group of media
files and copy and paste or just drag them to the iphone without sinking the
whole phone?
Sorry if this has already been covered but could not easily find anything about
it.
Thanks for your help,

Ioana

Re: Western Digital my icloud NaS drive application and Voiceover

2014-11-27 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Erik,

Can I ask you another question? At the moment, I have my WD my cloud NAS
attached via ethernet to airport extreme. I also have an airport express on
the network, and airport express has an ethernet port too. Do you know whether
I can actually attach the WD my cloud to the ethernet port on airport express
rather than my airport extreme?

Thanks again for your reply.

Re: how to remove user profile and all content on the mac?

2014-11-27 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Depends on how safe you require. Usually just formatting the drive and
reinstalling the OS should get you there. Sure, it's possible that with
the right forensics software somebody could revive your files but is
that really a concern?

Hi. There is a way of deleting the user account off of the mac, and creating a
new user without reformatting.
Although, if you're giving that mac to someone, reformatting is your easiest

Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread Jessica Moss
They have as far as their site is concerned, which I love, but the last couple
times I bought music from them, I couldn't do a thing with the cloud player on
the mac, and only managed 1 time to get their mp3 downloader to work, so I
could burn it to CD, but couldn't get it to work with the last album I bought
from them, no matter how many people I talked to, so that was the last time I
ever bought digital music from them, sense I prefer, if I'm going to buy music,
that it be on CD, in case my harddrive fails.

There’s always the bundle packs they are offering where if you buy the cd, you
get the mp3 download.

I’m very interested to try it though there are alots of other places my money

Re: Is there any accessible way to sign up to Sirius XM?

2014-11-27 Thread Mike Arrigo
Oh, glad to know the radium application can be used for their internet streams.
Unfortunately, the web based player on their site is totally inaccessible
because it’s entirely flash based. They really should upgrade to html 5. Also,
when logging in to hyour account, you have to solve a capcha, and there is no
audio version of it. I have notified them several times of this, but no change.
Very annoying to say the least.

Re: Uninstalling an application on the Mac

2014-11-27 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Generally you just go to the apps folder, find the app you don't want
and throw it in the trash (command-delete). There could be preferences
files still hanging around but those are tiny and intert so most folks
don't worry much about them.

Re: how to remove user profile and all content on the mac?

2014-11-27 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
The actual formatting process only takes a few seconds. Generally you'll
want to boot in recovery mode which runs a separate stripped down
version of the OS, bring up disk utility, format the drive and then
install a fresh copy of OSX. You'll find lots of details on each of
these in the list archives but feel free to ask if you can't dig that up.

Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread erik burggraaf
I guess it’s no different from emusic, where the accessibility went from sort
of OK, to pretty bad to non-existent. No matter how many blind peopel
complained about not being able to access the download manager, nothing got
done.

I guess if the suggestion about using amazon’s busic downloader to sync music
automatically works, that’s one thing. Otherwise, amazon has only ever done
the amount of accessibility they have been forced to do in the past, and
there’s no reason to expect them to about face now.

It may be one of those cases where you pay your money and take your choice.

best,

Erik Burggraaf

Re: Apple TV and files not purchased

2014-11-27 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
You'll find lots of discussion in the archives on this but generally, in
the states, it's not legal to rip copyrighted videos from DVD because it
requires breaking the encryption to do so. While technically it's easy
enough to do with tools like RipIt but the mere act of breaking the
encryption breaks the DMCA passed by Congress which overrides Fair Use.
Outside the US, who knows. Once ripped you can use tools like Handbrake
to convert the DVD videos to whatever format you would like.

Hello Ray,

The short answer is that, while you can use air play to send media to your
Apple TV on the fly, I don't recommend it as the primary means of streaming
media to the Apple TV.

Now, having said this, I will give you the broad strokes in order to accomplish
your goal. By the way, I use my Apple TV, frequently, to stream media which I
personally created or purchased from sources other than Apple.

As a general rule, I import any media that I may want to stream to my Apple TV,
into iTunes.

Also, the Apple TV and the computer containing the iTunes Library must be on
the same network; and, while you're at it, make sure they are both signed into
the same iTunes account.

Next, in order for the Apple TV to see the media in your iTunes Library, iTunes
must be open on the computer.

Finally, from within the Apple TV interface, select Computers and you will see
all of the open iTunes Libraries and you can drill down until you locate your
desired media.

Always keep in mind that there are several ways of streaming media to the Apple
TV but I find the above method the most convenient and strait-forward.

Good Luck,

Mark

Subject: Apple TV and files not purchased

Hi,

In my iTunes library both on my Mac and on my iPhone, I have custom albums
which I compiled from vinyl records and or recorded myself. I want to play
them using Apple TV but not sure how. I guess maybe it involves using Air play
in some way or other but can't figure it out. Any ideas? Would iTunes match
sovle this? From what I once read in Apple World, it seems not: but any input
would be most welcome.

Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread Jessica Moss
Couldn't agree more there; the last album I purchased from them, which I
unfortunately was forced to download sense they didn't have it in a hard copy,
I couldn't get the thing to download whatsoever, which was a huge
disappointment for me, because it was a Christmas CD I bought for Hannah that I
had as a child, and looked for for years and finally found, and couldn't get
the issue resolved no matter who I talked to. I actually had one fool hang up
on me just because I couldn't understand her, so I asked to be transferred to
someone else, so when I called back, I told the next person I talked to that I
was hung up on, and was even one of the ones who explained about how
enaccessible the site was, one issue I've always had with the main site is the
page always refreshes on me every few seconds or so, and was amazed to see that
at least that was fixed.
I agree there's still a long way to go though, especially given the fact that
at times their mobile site seems to work better than their app does in terms of
reading stuff.

Re: Buying mp3 albums from amazon and downloading to the mac

2014-11-27 Thread denise avant
Well, I guess in the end I really wasn’t surprised by an inaccessibility of the
Amazon application given its past history. But I wanted to make sure I was not
overlooking something before claiming a product or software inaccessible. My
problem was that the album I wanted was not available on Itunes, and so I tried
Amazon. I found it there. Not only that, if I remember right, if you have
bought music on CD in the past, you can get the mp3 version free of charge or
for a small price. So, these are just instances of when you might want to use
Amazon. And in general, blind customers should have the same access to products
and services as our sighted peers.

Oh of course, What I don't get, and this may only be the case with some stuff,
or may only be an issue with their IPhone app, but have noticed on occasion,
that even when you try to preview their digital music, there doesn't always
seem to be an option, which I find extremely disappointing, considering, that
once again, some of this is stuff I want to get for Hannah, and most of it is
stuff that's not easy to find anymore, so I want to make sure I'm buying the

you should use a app called app cleaner.
its free.
search for more info at www.applevis.com
or
www.macupdate.com
sometimes apps can leave lots of files behind if you only delete the app
from the applications folder.

these files left behind can be as large as 70mb.

You have a 16 tb mycloud? The tops I’ve seen so far is 4 tb. Could I buy two
16’s and combine them into one 32? I know that I can get a WD external drive

 Enter your username and password.
When asked to mount your volumes, say OK.
Back in finder, you should automatically be taken to the computer folder

I'm planning to retire my poor old windows pc and get a Mac mini so I
