Extreme iTunes Frustration Continued: Update

2014-06-02 Thread Christine Grassman
I want to thank all of you who are trying to assist with your suggestions.
However:

1. I did have music turned off in iTunes and app store.

2. I understand how to use the grid; before going into column browser, the
album grid was not going past a certain point, no matter what I did.

3. I did change to column browser, and do see the different listings, but do
not see where to check and uncheck artists, genres, albums, or particular
songs from a particular artist or album. I am only seeing "check" or "uncheck"
when songs are selected, which was always the case, and which, as started this
whole problem, does not appear to make a difference.
Going out of my mind with this wasted space on my iPhone, and having to skip,
skip, skip, when listening to music because of the currently unwanted
selections.
 . . .
Kimba, how did you delete all music from your phone easily and then start over?
I'm thinking this is my next try.
Christine

Re: iTunes cannot import CDs

2014-06-02 Thread Kevin Shaw
hi Kristeen,

Set iTunes and Finder to do nothing and try manually importing by VO-Shift-M in
the track list and choosing Create AAC Version. If you're still getting 3k file
names, something's up with your iTunes configuration. A little extra work, but
this way you can spot any problems.

2014-06-02 Thread Eugenia Firth
Nancy, have you used command y to look at attachments? I usually save mine out
instead of just looking at them, but I have used command y whenever Ij want to
look and not save. I did this in Mountain Lion as well. Command y is a
Macintosh command and not a VoiceOver command.

Re: space bar on a macbook pro using voice over

2014-06-02 Thread Phil Halton
this may sound strange, but I had the same problem when I first got my MBA. It
turned out that I was having trouble differentiating the space bar from the
command key - they both are smooth and featureless keys right next to each
other.
I made a long strip of braille tape with letter l's spaced a few characters
apart, just to make a bumped surface, and place the long strip of L's on the
spacebar. Now I always know I'm pressing spacebar and not the adjacent command
key because of the textured feel of the spacebar.
I Told you it would sound strange.!

As I said yesterday, vo-space is almost never required. Try using space or

Sounds like you nee to go into iPhone in your iTunes library. You can find it
in the sidebar, or as a popup depending on how you have iTunes set up.
Then, choose the music radio button and uncheck anything you don't want sinked.
This will remove the items from your iPhone.

I haven't followed this thread vary closely, so sorry if you already know about
this. It didn't appear to me from your latest posts that you've done this.

As I said yesterday, vo-space is almost never required. Try using space or
enter instead, and see if that doesn't help to mitigate the problem.

That was a random issue in Mountain Lion, I believe. I haven't noticed it
at all in Mavericks, but then I rarely use vo-space. Most times, with buttons
in dialogs or web forms, you can press space by itself. Links, default buttons,
and menu items can be activated with enter.

Hi,

I've also noticed that this method is not consistent, it should work, but
doesn't always. What I've resorted to doing is pressing VO-shift-m on the
attachment, then saving it to my Desktop and going from there.

recalcitrant Apple keyboard

2014-06-02 Thread Jenine Stanley
I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard and though I know usually when the
batteries are going, it seems to often just be recalcitrant about keystrokes or
commands. Today I have to exit Mail and come back in before it would register
that I was hitting the delete key or enter key.

Often in my Twitter client, Night Owl, keyboard commands will be totally
ignored for many presses of the key until finally something clicks. I do love
the feel and size of the Apple keyboard and thus have not tried a full size
regular keyboard to know if these things are endemic.

I'll probably try the commands on the MBP keyboard next,as that brilliant idea
just popped into my head but does anyone else have this issue with the apple
bluetooth keyboard?

Re: Extreme iTunes Frustration Continued: Update

2014-06-02 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

To delete all music from your iPhone, make sure iTunes Match is turned off on
the iPhone, then in iTunes on your Mac, make sure that "Sync Music" is not
checked in the Music pane. Apply your changes and all music should be removed.
Sometimes, my favourite word in computer-land creeps up and "should" factors
in, so, you need to confirm things on your iPhone. That is, go into the Music
app, in the Songs pane and make sure that all have been removed. You usually
can swipe up and delete any songs that were not properly deleted from the first
process. Then you can go ahead and try setting things up the way you want them
in iTunes on your Mac. Once you re-apply the changes, everything "should" be
fine.

That's how I've always done it. No searching the message for the in-line
attachment, you just use cmd-y to preview it and File > Save Attachments to
save. I set up a shortcut key so I can save attachments with one keystroke,
making it even easier.

2014-06-02 Thread Teresa Cochran
It's in Users and Groups, "users, groups and login options" list. Interact with
that and go all the way down to "login options. Stop interacting and the use
Voiceover checkbox is in that dialog.

Slow down; you'll get there faster.

Re: Getting VO to speak at log in, where did the option

2014-06-02 Thread isaac
It is still in system preferences.
Just go to system preferences.
Go to users and groups.
Next go to click the lock to make changes and type in you're password.
Next after entering the password and pressing enter to unlock the options to
enable auto login and to start voiceover at log on. Now you are going to vo
right arrow until you see users groups and log in options and then you will
now interact with the current user. Next vo right arrow to log in options
stop interacting with them.
Next vo right arrow until you see the check box that says use voiceover in the
log in window and then check it.

Itunes Help needed

2014-06-02 Thread Lee Jones
Dear List, I copied an mp3 album folder into the music section of the itunes
media folder, but when I select music from the pop up in itunes itself it does
not show up. The only tracks that show up are those that I played with itunes
from finder. Itunes shows lots of past played files under music, even
though these files are not in the itunes media folder, and when I activate them
it tells me that itunes no longer has access to the files. I have
automatically add to library turned off, although in the past it turned itself
back on. How do I get it to show just what is in the itunes media folder and
purchased music from the store and nothing else? Is it better to add each
track separately? Is it better to add music through control O in itunes
itself? There seems to be very few preferences for a program that does so many
things. I am running mavericks.
 Kind Regards Lee

Re: Setting pdf Files to Open in Preview?

2014-06-02 Thread Kayaker
Hi,

Didn't I just answer this exact question over the weekend? You cannot in
Safari, click on a pdf link and have it open in preview. This was deprecated in
Safari version 7, maybe even 6.1. This is done by a helper app database in
safari. The technical way to set this preference was via this command in
terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool NO

This preference is no longer supported.

Absolutely do not enable Safari to open safe files after download. This is a
huge security risk. In fact, Apple should be ashamed they enable this by
default. Turn it off and keep it off.

The finder's Get Info and open with setting has absolutely nothing to do with
the initial question. That only affects files in the Finder's open API (e.g.
Double clicking the file or command O).

Again, the easiest solution I am aware of is to have Safari open the PDF in the
safari browser, and then contextual click on the pdf and open in Preview.

If you wish to search the Apple forums, you'll find exactly what I've just said
above.

Best,

 Hi,

The pdf file type is supported inline with Safari. Just like you don't
have every image JPEG open in a graphics program, so is it with PDFs.
There used to be a setting in Snow Leopard that allowed Safari to open PDF
files in Preview, but that got cut with Lion, as I recall. I also miss
 this feature.

What I tend to do, is actually have Safari open the pdf, then I use the
contextual menu on the pdf to open in preview. This eliminates the need
for the download and open. It's a little faster than the way you
describe, and you don't have to clean up your downloads folder. If you
wish to actually save the pdf locally, you can do a save as from preview
and put it where ever you want.

I know it's not the answer you were hoping for.

Re: Itunes Help needed

2014-06-02 Thread Phil Halton
That won't get the album/folder into yur library database. You either have to
load the folder from within iTuens itself, or move the folder into the "add
automatically to iTunes" folder in the music library. That'll put the MP3's
into the database for you when you first open iTunes.
I'd delete the folder from where you put it and move it into the "automatically
add" folder, then open iTuens and let it add the folder automatically for you.

Well, the way I figure it, when using an off-the-shelf product, you take your
chances with accessibility. I signed up for the public beta. if it doesn't work
out, I know from trial and error how to erase my drive and revert to an earlier
OS. It should be a piece of cake compared to some of the bleeding-edge Linux
distributions I've tried.

Kevin and anyone else,
When I do this manually, it creates an .m4a file that is 94K in size. I did
this for the whole album. It created 12 songs and they were all 94K and will
not play. Any other advice? What could be wrong with the configuration? Is it
helpful to delete the plst file?

Thanks.

escape key working under fusion but not under OSX?

2014-06-02 Thread Scott Erichsen
Hi all,

I have a really strange problem with a macbook air running Mavericks.

The escape key is working under VMWare fusion on Windows 7 64bit, but will
not work on OSX at all. I can't get out of menues, or use the escape key in
any way.

It's as if it's broken and just does nothing.

Short of reinstalling the entire OS and everything else, does anyone have
any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Max,

First make sure that you've logged into Google on the Net with your BigPond.com
account, either in Safari or Chrome. Next, go to the link

http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries

which is also located at the bottom of messages posted to this list on the
"Visit this Group" line. This will give you access to the settings for your
given eMail address. Locate the "My Settings" pop-up menu and activate it. In
Safari, this requires the return key then arrows. In Chrome, use
ctrl-cmd-space then arro keys. Press return on the eMail Settings for this
Group option and confirm that you have it set to send you eMails as they are
posted.

HTH.

They have a new language which is called Swift. Seems to eliminate a lot
of the cruft required to get ObjectiveC to do what they want and also
eliminates a number of constructs that were authoring errors. So it
sounds like they are trying to set developers up for success more easily
which should be good for everybody.

Re: Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite system requirements?

2014-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
True enough. The thing is, most developers know and will probably still use
Objective-C for quite a while to come. I haven't used the Swift language yet,
but I don't see how it will help avoid accessibility problems. It may offer
slightly faster coding, but that is about it. I'll let you all know if my
opinion changes as I get more into Swift, which won't be until Xcode6 comes out.

How to go for a holiday and stop mail

2014-06-02 Thread Agent086b
Hello,
I am going away in July & August for a mother holiday. So I don't have the same
problems re-joining the 2 google lists I am a member of.
How do I set a vacation mode? Groups that use the Mailman program there is an
easy way to go nomail.
Sorry for all this traffic.

Re: escape key working under fusion but not under OSX?

2014-06-02 Thread CJ Daniel
Scott,

Under Mavericks, the escape key's functionality changed. You can press
Option-Escape key to actuate a standard escape key function. Also, VO has a
general escape key, when VO-Escape key is pressed. However, the VO sequence
doesn't always work for me, while the Option-Escape key, pretty much, does the
trick all the time.

Hope this helps,

CJ

RE: escape key working under fusion but not under OSX?

2014-06-02 Thread Scott Erichsen
Unfortunately that makes no sense and One air works fine while the other
doesn't. Is there any settings I can try without reinstalling?

solved! RE: escape key working under fusion but not under OSX?

2014-06-02 Thread Scott Erichsen
Hi all,

This problem is now solved. Just for info, The mac that had the problems
wasn't mine but someone had enabled speakable items and that made the escape
key useless.

If you set the speakable items to off/disabled, the escape key works as
expected.

Thanks.
