You know I haven't seen either of these bugs. I have however, seen where mail
doesn't always get rid of deleted mail. So for instance, if I delete mail with
Command Delete VO doesn't always show it as deleted.

Should report these to feedback this is the only way they will get ixed.

I haven't seen that one; are you using Gmail? I have both Gmail and iCloud, but
I'm slowly switching over to iCloud. By the way, you can just press delete, no
need to use the command key as well.

bad files in mobile documents iCloud?

2014-03-08 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

Last night, I posted about not being able to open some documents I had saved in
iCloud. John asked me if there was any error message when I tried to open them
in Text edit, and, I indicated there was not. So, I went in to
~/Library/MobileDocuments/ComappleTextEdit/Documents
where my iCloud documents are stored and found i not only could not open them
from there, I can't get rid of them either. When I try to put them in the
trash, I get this:

"text Items can't be copied to "Trash" because you don't have permission to
read them.". Any ideas what to do next?

PS. I was able to get at the information I needed via other means, but, if
this is how reliable Apple's iCloud service is with critically important
documents, I'm really not as sure about it as I once was.

You can run a permissions check from the recovery system or use, reset
password from Terminal in the Recovery system and reset your own user
permissions. I don't know why you wouldn't have permission to access your own

Re: my internet solution

2014-03-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The solution outlined here actually is either found in the 10.9.2 update or a
hardware test done by a certified Apple Technician and possible replacement of
the lid of the MBA. So, other than seeing if the 10.9.2 update fixes your
issue, the next fix, at least according to this 135 page thread is to take your
MBA into your local Apple Service Centre and having them do an antenna test. I
also noted that one user had no issues as long as they used the Apple Airport
wireless access points.

Sorry, not much help for you here.

Re: bad files in mobile documents iCloud?

2014-03-08 Thread John Panarese
From the recovery partition with command-r during startup, choose,
Terminal, from the Utilities window. Then, type, resetpassword and you will
find a button for resetting your permissions. If you changed your Apple ID,
though, this might have something to do with your inability to access some
documents.

Dragon Dictate VS Mac built-in Dictation and Speech Navigation

2014-03-08 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello All,

Dragon is launching a new dictate software for Mac. There is an introductory
price of US $99.99. My question for the list is: With the ability dictate and
navigate the Mac via speech, what would be the avantages in investing in
Dragon? One feature that caught my attention was the ability to transcribe an
single voice audio to script. I have used Dragon Naturally Speaking on the PC
side and have been able to work it with JAWS without J-Say. Also, has anyone
used Dragon with VO running in the bacground for support?

Thanks for any input on this subject. Oh by the way, if anyone is interested,
the promotion goes until 3/31.

Cheers,
Eileen

Fusion, mapping an insert key on laptop keyboard

2014-03-08 Thread Phil Halton
Currently I'm using sharpkeys to remap the grave accent key on my MBA to the
caps lock key and vice versa, for use as a jaws modifier key in windows7. I
want to eliminate sharp keys and have fusion map grave accent to the insert
key. I've done this before but forgot the procedure. I think its:
1) in fusions keyboard and mouse settings, edit the profile and "add" a key
mapping.
2) this brings up a window where there is a series of checkboxes for certain
modifier keys, and a combo box where you can type a key.
3) in the "from" combo box, I type "`" (grave accent), and in the "to" combo
box I press the insert key on an attached full-sized USB keyboard. this puts
"extended numpad insert key" in the combo box.
4) Press okay and make sure key remaps are enabled.

What are others doing to get an insert key (or a caps lock key) passed to
windows7 vm's?

Hi there
I have not used Dragon, but my first reaction to this is that the dictation on
the Mac is good enough that I would want a lot of benefit more before I would
want to spend $99 for it. I find the one that already comes with Mavericks to
be pretty accurate. Do they let you have a trial first?

Re: Dragon Dictate VS Mac built-in Dictation and Speech Navigation

2014-03-08 Thread David Chittenden
Interesting, I believe the ScanSoft speech recognition is the basis for both
speech recognition systems. Given that Mac Dictate can now be loaded directly
on the Mac for continuous speech recognition, Dragon would most likely only be
beneficial if one needed to use more granulated Command and Control rather than
just speech dictation recognition. That said, I have no idea how well Dragon
will be integrated with VoiceOver.

Virtual machine help

2014-03-08 Thread Catherine Turner
Hi,

I'm having some problems using JAWS in a virtual machine and wondering
if anyone can help.

I'm using JAWS 14 on Windows 7 via VMware. I usually use an external
keyboard with my MacBook because I'm one handed. I normally use the
desktop keyboard layout for JAWS but am without an external keyboard
now. I'm wondering how people manage on the Mac keyboard with JAWS.
My understanding is that JAWS should be able to use the caps lock as
the JAWS key but I can't get this to work. I chose laptop layout from
the keyboard layout in basic settings but whenever I press caps lock
Voiceover just says caps lock on or off and JAWS acts if I'm not
pressing the JAWS key e.g. if I press caps lock and t for title, JAWS
just says t. It's as if the caps lock key isn't being passed through
to Windows. But this is strange because it works properly when I use
NVDA instead of JAWS.

Can anyone help? Am I missing something? Any ideas why JAWS/Windows
isn't picking up the caps lock? Any other way round it?

Thanks,
Catherine

Re: Problem Inserting Formulas in Numbers in Mavericks

2014-03-08 Thread Nicholas Parsons
I think that the trainers are just over complicating the issue as they're not
used to doing things the VoiceOver way. To insert a formula in Numbers you
don't need to click on anything, insert anything from a toolbar or menu or jump
to or interact with the formula scroll area. All you need to do is navigate to
the cell, press the enter key and then type the formula. You may find the
formulas and functions help page, accessible from the help menu, useful in this
regard to learn the various formulas and functions. If you start using
functions, one tip is that after you start typing one or more characters,
Numbers offers you suggestions. You can just use the left and right arrow keys
(with QuickNav turned off) to navigate between the suggestions. Press return to
choose a suggestion.

My columns in Classic view are the perfect order, but that doesn't translate

drag and drop is driving me out of my damn mind!!!

2014-03-08 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

I have made a playlist of tracks which I want in a certain order. This is in
ITunes. I made the playlist and then pressed the edit playlist button. Then,
I made sure that sort by manual order is selected. Now, the first two drags
seemed to go okay. But, after that, no matter how many times I select a file,
no matter whether I use the VO+, and VO+period or else the VO+shift+cmd+space
method, the blasted files will not move. Yes, I am interaccting with the table
where the files are. I thought maybe I could press down on my track pad and
drag that way but no joy. My track pad commander is off as I don't use it. Is
drag and drop truly not possible with Voice Over? How otherwise can I get the
tracks in proper order for the script to number them? This is a blasted
impossibility

Re: Capitalone 360 app

2014-03-08 Thread Yolanda
Ok, this is how I have found to make it work. When you have the screen
up with the from and to buttons, do the to button first. The issues
with both is as soon as you flick up on the ticker, the screen refreshes
and so you have to flick right again to the ticker, and do this until
you get to the account you want to transfer to. Then go back and tap on
the from button, and it will behave the same way the to button just did.
If you click the from button first it will never work.

Subject: Fusion, mapping an insert key on laptop keyboard

Re: Fusion, mapping an insert key on laptop keyboard

2014-03-08 Thread David Taylor
You can do the key remapping in Fusion's settings. You remap insert to a key of
your shoice, then remap that same key to insert, and you have a wroking insert
key on whatever key you put it on. I found with anything that remaps the caps
lock key, you lose caps lock completely so can never use it when you want it,
so that isn't really the best solution.

Cheers

Re: bad files in mobile documents iCloud?

2014-03-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I would agree that it is likely a Apple ID change that is causing this issue.
If you changed your Apple ID, then the documents within the Mobile Documents
folder do not belong to the new Apple ID, thus you do not have permission to
open them. I don't believe that this is any way a measure of the reliability
of Apple's iCloud service. You might be able to get around this by copying the
Documents folder from the com~apple~TextEdit folder in your Mobile Documents
folder onto your Desktop, then doing a Get Info on the folder. Once the Info
window is open, navigate to the Sharing & Permissions section and then in the
Actions pop-up menu, apply the permissions to all enclosed items. You'll
likely need to unlock the lock first but after this, the permissions of the
items in that folder should now belong to you.

HTH.

Right, thanks for that clarification. I assume you can use it with pretty much
any scanning software though, right? So one could just use the hardware with,
say, Docuscan Plus, VueScan, Image Capture, Preview, Abby Fine Reader, or
Prizmo and it would be accessible, would it not?

Re: Dragon Dictate VS Mac built-in Dictation and Speech Navigation

2014-03-08 Thread Alex Hall
Dragon for Mac v3.x is inaccessible, even the company admits to that. I haven't
tested out v4 yet. Still, if it lacks things like voice commands to move around
and edit text, or move up and down menus and tables, I don't see the point. For
straight dictation, the Mac does well. That said, Dragon learns as you correct
it, whereas the mac does not, and Dragon is (from reviews I've read) more
accurate even out of the box, with no training. If you have problems with the
keyboard, look at Dragon, but be sure to test if for accessibility and the
features you will need. If you need basic dictation and will not be dictating
exclusively, I'd save my money. Those are just my thoughts.

Dragon is launching a new dictate software for Mac. There is an

Good evening, before we start characterizing software good, or bad. I think we

Personally I do use Dragon because of the above-mentioned written expression
disorder. I've only used version three until five have had no real problems
with voiceover. But I also use a braille wdisplay separate from my normal
computing experience. I know that there is some concern about being able to use
the product by telling it what to do as far as screen motion I think though
that you run the risk of entangling with VoiceOver and that could lead to some
headaches. When I get the chance I will actually use version four and will see
how good or bad it is with VoiceOver. The concerns that Dragon is inaccessible
are not true. I have not had any problems using it after making a few
modifications they are minor. The biggest thing one needs to remember is one
should use the headset and keep voiceover and Dragon separate as far as

I have Dragon, but it totally freezes my Macbook Air, so I don't use it very
