Re: Enlarging menus
My understanding of thread starter is that he/she want to increase the font size of the letters in the menu. Neither of Zooms or ZoomText do that. The font size is the same, but they enlarge the menu by zooming in and out i.e. zooming in makes the menu letters look larger, but then you can`t see the rest of the screen. Its like looking in a tunnel with Zooming capacity. Take care 21. jan. 2014 kl. 20:08 skrev Chris Blouch : OSX has a general screen magnifier. Re: Severe Gmail issues in Mavericks Still
HI Christina, Those settings for automatically deleting sent messages can be found in the Accounts Tab of Mail Preferences, once you select the relevant mail account and then select the Account Behaviours tab. I used to have this set to delete sent messages after one month, but I ended up changing this as it had some bad consequences. Occasionally I want to refer to an old sent message if I want to decide whether I need to follow up with someone again if they haven't responded to my email, or if I want to forward them proof that I sent an email to them some time ago etcetera. I do, however, try and delete email wherever possible, for instance if I know I won't need to refer to the email ever again. is webvisum still working
Hello, I want to try webvisum on mavericks but it seems not to work at all. I have firefox version 26.0 and webvisum version 0.9.1 installed. the problems are as follows: after logging in in firefox: add-ons > extensions > webvisum > prefferences, my password is always gone when I am lookingg back while it works to loggin on the site. The tutorial-links gives 404 not found; When I am on a captcha and I goeie to the menu of the plugin with a pre-defined hotkey, nothing happens; the menu of firefox has a submenu in tools called webvisum. The webvisum menu should have a submenu also there there seems nothing in there. So, my question: is the service still working? Perhaps I am doing something wrong? If it’s not working anymore, is there a alternative solve captchas myself without assistance? Re: saving files in different formats and also how to move them from one location to another under mavericks
I have no idea why. They are even zipping 56 kb files. And I can't email anything out from Pages or Numbers without exporting to another format first. a few more questions about the Mac
Hi there, I have a few more questions about the Mac. 1. So when I look at the Mac Pro is the button to turn on the Pro at the top left or right? 2. In Mavericks how do I put my computer to sleep? 3. Does anyone know does Apple recommend shutting down the computer every night or can I keep it on. My Windows PC I shut down once a week cause it seems like I am always on it. 4. Hello: I really need some assistance with the calendar app. The only thing I can seem to do is add an event with command n. How do I add specific characteristics to the event? Re: Calendar in Mavericks
You can add specific ‘characteristics’ to the event by typing them in the text area when you first add the event with command-n. For example, if you want the event ‘Dinner’ to go from 6pm to 8pm you can type ‘Dinner 6-8pm’. Just use natural language and Calendar understands. Once it's added, a dialog will come up with various links to edit various characteristics. Just VO-Space on the links to the characteristics you're interested in. Hi Scott. If it's a MacBook pro, like every other Mac laptop the power button is located on the top right. To make it go to sleep, either close the lid or press the power button. Finally, I don't turn my Mac off as I heard from a friend that knows computers very well that turning it off and on overtime damages a computer's hard drive, regardless if it's Mac or Windows. Computers these days don't take up much power so go ahead and leave it on. Free accessable rss reader on the Mac.
hello Listers, I have NewsIsy on my iPhone and I’m am using Feedly. However, I want to use the Mac to also read up my RSS feeds. So does anyone know any free accessable RSS readers on the Mac? I know CueFeed is accessable but last I checked it costs $30. Also, on Safari, there is a button, “add to reading list” does anyone know what that does? That is not the same as a Rss reader? Thanks! RE: Switching Between Docs In iText Express On A Mac Air
Hi Daniel, I think I have the FN key enable because I use it with combinations with the function keys on the top row. What I have done is use the FN-F2 twice to bring up the window chooser and select the document that I want to reopen. I guess I can relate the window chooser on the Air to the task bar on the PC, but then I am able to use the windows key plus a number associated with the software on the task bar. If I analyze it, it's probably only 1 more keystroke on the Mac side. Thanks. app for bank-accounts
Hello, I live in Belgium and I have a particular app from my financial bank to make transfers of money … There seems a accessibility problem with the app: the screen is splitter in 2 : 1 part with my account at the top of the screen and at the bottom there is a kind of combo box (like the selection of a date in the agenda), to select one of my other accounts. 3/4 fingers down/up left/right seems not to work and I can’t activate it by tapping on the place where seeing people can see the information I need. On the mac, I should use vo+j but , this isn’t available on ios. Does anyone know iOS-app’s where the screen is splitter in 2 and if there is a way to jump between the different parts? Re: Annoying issue with sending message to certain contacts under iOS7
Hello Cheryl, Thanks for your input. All of the phone numbers in my contacts are correctly identified. In every single situation where a contact has more than one phone number listed, this problem occurs. In instances where a contact only has one number listed, i.e. the cell phone number, things work fine. This problem occurs no matter whether or not I use the bluetooth keyboard. I have also checked to be sure that cell phone numbers are properly labelled as such. This issue makes life very complicated, since many people with whom I need to stay in touch will only respond if they are sent text messages. Since this isn't possible, I get a message from my phone company telling me that a text message can't be sent to a landline phone. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I am clicking on the recipient's mobile phone. If a person sends me a message, and I simply reply, the message is properly sent to the recipient's cell phone; I just can't currently start a new message thread to anyone in my contact list unless that contact only has a cell phone number listed. Re: a few more questions about the Mac
As to #3, I usually leave mine on all the time and just close the lid when I'm not using it. The closest I get to shutting down is a restart after a software update which requires it. Once in a great while my Mac has a bad hair day and so I have to restart it to get things back to normal, but that is pretty rare. For laptops with SSD instead of a spinning hard drive Mavericks also does its Power Nap thing which includes downloading mail and time machine backups while the laptop is asleep. Magic Track Pad and iTunes Gesture
Hey all, I am trying to use the track pad more, and amazingly I can’t seem to find any documents on the web for using the track pad and iTunes specifically. I am using VoiceOver and have played around with the trackpad, and know there has got to be more, as I can’t figure out how to use the track pad to play a song. On the keyboard in iTunes you just hit enter and the song plays. Would have thought there was a simple track pad command to play a song, but haven’t figured it out. Does anyone have a list of trackpad commands with iTunes? Thanks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. They are as far as I can tell, if you can find any that aren't, you might want to check and report to Apple Accessibility. For example, the one that changed, toggle multiple selection, has been updated, and the new perform action, vo-command-space is listed correctly. Seriously. You have to do all that just to get a song to play? If that is the case, I guess I will just stick with the keyboard. Would have thought it was as simple as double tapping with one finger, as track pad claims doing so performs the default action, so not sure why in the world that wouldn’t be playing the track, as single finger double tapping does absolutely nothing, not sure if there is a setting I need to change. Re: saving files in different formats and also how to move them from one location to another under mavericks
Perhaps. However, it did it on a single 56 kb Pages document as well. Also, if you save Pages to a disk, and try to open them on another computer, instead of a page, you get a unopenable folder and unopenable document with the same name. Does it work if you double tap on the combo box? Also, if you flick from right to left or from the other way on the screen with one finger, does it move the options so that you can double tap on them? Anyone else have a problem with the contextual menu
I am having a strange issue with the contextual menu in iTunes and wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen and if so figured a work around. When I open the contextual menu focus jumps to a submenu and I cannot choose anything else. For example, I am trying to add a song to a playlist but when I open the contextual menu the menu jumps to star rating and the submenu and I cannot get out of it. This has now happened two days in a row and quitting iTunes and cycling VO off and on doesn’t fix it. The submenu just started working again after several hours. Any ideas? Re: Numbers | Merging Cells and Text Boxes
Hi Nick, I agree with you that it isn’t obvious to a VO user, there needs to be some work on this sort of thing. I haven’t used the text box feature much but played around with it a little. When in the Toolbar, press on the Text button. You’ll be given some choices of what kind of text element you’d like, for which I chose Header. I then navigated to the Sheet area where a new text box had been placed and I was able to enter text into it. In the Formatter area, I was able to modify some attributes including the width of the header. I had no-one around to visually confirm the alignment of the header so I just used mouse-keys to attempt a rough guess. The left corner appeared to be over column “e” and the right corner appeared to be over column “H” so I assuming that it centers headers over the Table. As far as I could tell, this did what I expected but the limitation would come if you wanted to specifically place your header over some group of columns. I’m not sure how we would accomplish that. Sorry, I’m not a huge help here. Hi Tim, The smallest item was my notes on trying to figure out how to use VoiceOver. Well, they all were. Though some were copy and paste from Internet sites. I typed it into the document. Looked up the keyboard command for "Save As". Saved it. Attached it to an email. It would not send from any gmail, or my AOL account. Spent an hour one morning trying to figure it out with another tech savy friend. The error codes didn't help us, as it was saved \n hidden way as a zip file, and not visibly as a file gmail or AOL will not send. Re: saving files in different formats and also how to move them from one location to another under mavericks
The MIME format used to encode email attachments has no structure for folders so to attach a folder of files many email apps will zip them into a single file and then send that as an attachment. That said, a Word doc usually is one monolithic file so unless you somehow picked the containing folder rather than the exported word doc the mail app shouldn't be applying zip to your attachment. Now a pages document actually is a folder so if you somehow are attaching a Pages doc and not the converted Word version that would explain it. Ok just installed Vienna, but as soon as I go to the preferences in Vienna and VO space bar on the sync tab focus still stays on the general tab, and won’t change to the sync tab, so it looks like the only preferences you can change in Vienna with VO are the general ones. Re: saving files in different formats and also how to move them from one location to another under mavericks
Hi, OK, try this please: 1. Go into Pages. 2. Type some stuff, whatever you want, it’s not important. 3. Press cmd-s to save the document. Because it’s never been saved before, cmd-s will work just like a Save As. 4. The Save As dialog should appear. Press cmd-shift-d which tells the OS to place save focus on the Desktop. 5. Enter a name for the document like “Test” and press return. This should save the Pages document onto the Desktop with the name Test. If you then change app focus to the Finder and navigate around a bit, VO should announce one of the items as “Test” or “Test.pages” depending on your settings. If you then copy and paste this document onto some sort of media, then put that same media in another computer that has Pages, will it open or does it still claim that the document is a zip file? apple mail back to default?
Hi, had to do this once on mountain lion, but can't remember how. How do I reset apple mail back to just like new? I know there is a folder to delete, and it will act just like new when you open, does anyone remember what it is? I have already googled this, and no go, so that is why I ask the group. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Hi, Sending Pages documents via eMail will send it as a .pages document just fine. You are wrong about it but it is a problem. It has been a couple of months since I have done it and I apologize for not recalling how I got around it. Re: Looks like Windows is also heading toward full screen reader built in
Hi Sandi, You currently own your last ever optical scanner I strongly suspect. Your current generation mobile device has a camera with better image resolution than your scanner and a quad core processer more than capable of delivering OCR. So your next scanning peripheral is a tray with a boom attached for not much more than the cost of a run of the mill scanner nowadays. Your mobile device will sit on the top of the boom and will be perfectly aligned and oriented to give you accurate scanning results. You will place your book or paper on the tray and snap pictures on your mobile device. You will then ocr the pictures or send the images off directly to the cloud or an email recipient. I did this very thing last week and it worked out very well. The scanning process was easy and the ocr was very accurate even if the processing time was a little slow. The areas that currently need improvement on the mobile platform are advanced word processing, spreadsheeting, and presentation building, as well as audio and video editing. Oddly enough, databasing is really solid on the mobile platforms. You can do business admon very nicely and sync it with your desktop via the cloud. I can't wait for the pc to die. Meanwhile, NVDA should be anyones first choice for windows computing. That thing has rocked the competition's socks off for years now. Splitting keyboard on an iPad
Hi guys I am in the process of helping someone set up an iPad free for an elderly lady with low vision. I think she might need the feature of splitting the keyboard so that you can use two hands to type with. I think she may need voice over part time, and maybe later full time. I understand that her vision loss is progressive. DWhat is the command for doing that? Re: Splitting keyboard on an iPad
I don’t know a command, but if you do a pinch out on the keyboard, it will split. Sorta like taking your fingers and spreading it apart, like sighted people do to zooom in. Re: lion is pretty good
Hi, I have someupdates regarding the topic of operating systems on the mac. I since had to buy 2 chargers including the one i posted about because they broke. Ever since the last post, I've updated to Mavrics on my mac and has been great. the integration of iCloud with my mac and iPhone has been a lot easier since i can readily access my reminders mail and contacts on both computer and phone simultaneously. I also got a new bag to carry my laptop around when I go to my internships and it fits my braille display with its other components and papers pretty easily with room to spare which is necessary since I commuted from home to the city. It does get heavy because of the equipment I need to lug around which sometimes makes me sore, but it's worth the effort to be productive. Maybe I should lighten the load a bit, but I need most of the stuff to get me through the day. strange mail problem
Hi there everyone. I have a strange mail problem. Yesterday I got an iMac and transferred all my things to it from the mac air. Well, all is going well in getting it set up, except for mail. For whatever reason it’s not letting me create any of my email accounts. I go through all the steps and all looks good, but when I’m done, no accounts, no error message, no nothing. Using Windows hard drives on the Mac
Hi all: I have an old XP machine with two internal hard drives. The main drive runs XP and has files on it. I have a Seagate internal drive in the machine as well. It's 250GB and is used to store data. In April when XP is discontinued, I'm probably going to buy a Mac mini to replace that desktop. Is there way I can buy a couple of drive enclosures to put around those internal drives so I can use them on my mini to access the data? Has anyone done this? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Using Windows hard drives on the Mac
You could also buy an external drive now and copy the data files to it from your XP machine before you get the Mini. I’m not sure whether Mac os reads the ntfs files system, but you could format the drive as fat32 to be on the safe side. Re: Free accessable rss reader on the Mac.
Thanks Jeff, after a few tries I got VO shift space to select sync, unfortunately it doesn't look like Vienna offers Feedly sync, I tried pasting the Feedly website in to other for sync but couldn't get it to work, will just have continue to play with it when I can.
