Re: following someone in night owl?

2013-10-01 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Alex and others,
What is the "drawer"? Where do I find it? And will this method of following
people sync across devices or is this something which is specific to one copy
of Night Owl?
Cheers,
Nic

Apparently, Twitter removed that feature. You must now use Night Owl itself.
Hit cmd-u, type the username, and press enter. Once you are on the list of
tweets from that user, find and interact with the drawer, then open the
"useraction" menu button, arrow down to "following status", right arrow to open
it, and choose follow from the resulting menu. You can now hit cmd-1 to reset
the view back to your normal timeline.

Re: Downcast on the Mac.

2013-10-01 Thread Nicholas Parsons
HI Kawal,
Yep, you could just import an OPML file. However, on the main screen of
Downcast Mac there should be an iCloud Settings button down near the bottom
right as it seems to a VoiceOver user. Press this and then check all the things
you want synced. ON Downcast iOS, there's a more tab along the bottom. This
brings up a screen with an iCloud Sync Settings option which will bring up the
same set of options as on the Mac. Again, tick the options you want synced. On
both, you most likely want at least feeds and episodes synced.
Cheers,
Nic

Re: downcast on the mac

2013-10-01 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Once you get it up and running, Lisette, I'd be interested in how you find
Downcast on the Mac.

Hi Brian, yes I was talking about you. :) Just a friendly dig – I thought you
might be reading but hope you didn't take any offence. Wanted to make sure your
voice was heard in case Lisette ran into similar problems to what you're
having. It's been working really well for me of late – can't remember the last
time it went busy. Maybe the busy thing has to do with the amount of RAM or
something? Not sure. Anyway, aside from Downcast I hope there are some apps
that don't cause you too much trouble.

Best,
Nic

2013-10-01 Thread Alex Hall
The drawer is, as I understand it, a slide-out panel with options
(follow/unfollow, tweet, followers, and friends counts, and so on). It can be
placed on the left or the right in Preferences, but I have mine on the left so
I just vo-left until I fond it. Once I do, I interact and I can view everything
inside it. You may have to hit cmd-d to toggle the drawer open before you can
use it. Yes, following someone adjusts your account, so you can follow,
un-follow, favorite, and so on from any Twitter app on any platform and the
change is reflected in any other Twitter app you care to use, so long as you
are using the same account.

hi annie, i will say it like this , of course there are always errors
when we scan something in, but the results are surprisingly good. i
will do some googling and you can contact the danish company and see
for your self what you think, i have scanned over 400 books on mine so
far going from my nursing books too just things i need for relaxation.
Now obviously as you have used more time on this subject than i have,
I am not sure what your are expecting but i was surprised.
I do believe i gave under 3000 dkr for it and that was with all
included scanner, cd, and cables, mine drives under windows but with
windows under vmware on the mac that is something that i can
certainly live with, when it comes down too it for me at least it is
a matter of getting food on the table for me, 2 other persons and a
labrador and a rottweiler.
Annie if you want i can send you a few pages of stuff i have scanned
in with it and you can see for your self?
If you need more help just mail me privately.

Re: USB AMAZON BASICS KEYBOARD: FN KEY EQUIVALENT?

2013-10-01 Thread Chris Blouch
When I use an external full-size USB keyboard I can hit the 'backwards
delete' which is below help and F14 and then escape to exit. Usually the
Fn key is just to enable some secondary meaning to keys on a compact
keyboard that they didn't have room for. So Function+up becomes PageUp
and Function+Left becomes Home. On laptops the F-keys by default do
things like change volume or pause music playback. In this case the Fn
key just makes those behave as real F-keys, which is the default
behavior on an external USB keyboard. In other words, unless you are
missing some keys you might not need the Fn key.

I'm finding the same thing - any app that can do this is apid. That meems to
indicate that either there is a license fee a developer has to pay, or the work

Hi all,
I just got this link from Crashplan Support. While you cannot change much on
the Mac itself because of the Crashplan UI, this link will let you change your

mail settings questionn: checking mail

2013-10-01 Thread Cait and Maggie
Hi,
I thought there was a setting in mail where you can say how often to check
mail? I can't find this now. I have two accounts, one pop and the other is
imap. Every time the pop one checks for mail, I'm being prompted for a
password. I'd rather just check this account manually instead of every ten
minutes or whatever the default timing is..

anybody know the answer to this?
Thanks!
Caitlyn

iTunes Match questions

2013-10-01 Thread Helena Fehr
Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, but one thing i found when I signed up
for iTunes match was that it only downloaded my music library, and no
audiobooks or movies, or anything else i might have in my iTunes library, and
since at the time I listened more to audiobooks than music, I found it pretty
useless. I thought when I read the information, it was supposed to download my
entire iTunes library, and I spent a pile of money I shouldn't have spent on
getting the largest amount I could with iClout so that my stuff would all fit,
and then I could only put my music on there, but nothing else. I was pretty
frustrated with it. I've found that the best way to keep my music safe has been
for me to set iTunes up so that it views a table-list of all my songs, select
the whole lot of them, and copy/paste them into a folder on an external
hard-drive. I did the same with my movies and books, and anything else I cared
about losing or might want to have on both my computers. For me, that's as good
as iTunes Match, but I don't have to pay any money except to initially buy the
external hard-drive, and now I have iTunes on both my Mac and on my PC, and
both my computers are authorized with my iTunes account so that no matter where
i purchase anything new, it'll automatically appear on all my devices. It takes
time to set up, but at least I have all my music (And all my audiobooks) on all
my devices.
God Bless!!!
Helena

Re: iTunes Match questions

2013-10-01 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If you're purchasing these items through the iTunes Store, then they are
automatically available to all your devices whether you have iTunes Match or
not. Simply go under the iTunes Preferences, select the Store pane and check
the box for "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases". When this is checked, all
media purchased through the iTunes Store is available to you to stream or
quickly download to any device under the same Apple ID. At the moment, iTunes
Match is only used for non-Tunes Store purchased music files. If you have a
large collection of music files that you've ripped from CDs and such, then
these are not considered iTunes Store purchased items, even though you
purchased the physical CD. One of the big benefits of iTunes Match is the
ability to upgrade the quality of your personally ripped music. That is, if
iTunes is able to match songs that you have within your Library with songs that
are available from the Store, you are able to download the better quality
version to your personal devices with the iTunes Match subscription.

Re: Emptying Google Drive Trash

2013-10-01 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

To empty your Google Drive Trash, do the following:

1. Open Safari.
2. Go to your Google Drive on the web.
3. Navigate to the "Views menu" item and Interact with it. It's just to the
VO-right of the "All folders item.
4. It should now have "Shared with Me, Starred, Recent and More" to choose
from. Press on the More button.
5. Navigate within this expanded area and press on the Trash item.
6. Stop Interacting with the Views Menu item.
7. Navigate left to the Empty Trash button.

You will be asked to confirm. You can also navigate through the Table of items
in your Trash, press the "x" key to select something then permanently delete
specific items.

HTH.

keystroke to jump to message body in Apple Mail compose window?

2013-10-01 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I feel like I saw this once, but maybe not. Is there a keystroke to jump
straight to the message body when you are writing a new message? Often I just
want to fill in the first two fields, then start typing, instead of tabbing
past the headers, from, and signature options. As I said, maybe I dreamed this
or something, but I thought there was a way to do this. Thanks.

Have a great day,

2013-10-01 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

as far as I know, there is no shortcut. You just have to tab to the body.

Fantastic, thank you, Command-D did the trick. Now for something a little off
topic, do people get notified if you stop following them? Thank you.

Music App in iOS7

2013-10-01 Thread Nicholas Parsons
When I tap the playback speed button in the iOS7 Music app the speed of
playback changes, but the button continues to show the speed as set to normal.
I've so far tested this only on an audiobook not purchased from audible or
iTunes on my 4S running iOS 7.0.2. Can anyone else reproduce this?

VoiceOver Crashing in Mac Safari

2013-10-01 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Has anyone else ever had the following experience? You try to go to the next
link or heading in Safari on Mac and VoiceOver suddenly turns itself off and
back on again and takes you half way back up the page? Do we know what causes
this? It can be kinda annoying.
