It will ask you if you want to create a windows partition, and download drivers.
note: you will have speech with voiceover with this.
After you download the drivers and make a dvd or cd of them, you will need to
have sited assistance.
It will ask you how large you want the bootcamp partition to be.
I think you have voiceover support here.
It is a slider to adjust how large the mac partition is vs. the windows
partition.
You will not be able to undue this option without re-installing again.
Then the computer will reboot and you will have to click next and i accept.
It will ask you if you want to do a custom install or upgrade. i always have
chose custom.
Then it will ask you where you want it installed. Hit bootcamp and advanced.
This is very important.
Now hit format. and next.
Now the computer will go to work, and will restart a few times.
You will need a usb audio device of some sort. or you can have sited assistance
with the setup screen.
Next make sure to have that cd or dvd of the drivers. you will be able to use
the function keys just like in Mac os.
Hope that helps anybody.

possible Text edit discovery: can anyone confirm?

2012-09-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I was playing with Text Edit again today and I think I figured something out.
In MS Word, you highlight the text you want to format and then apply the
formatting. In Text Edit, you do the same for bold or italic, but aligning
seems different. I think you can just move to the start of the text to be, say,
centered and press command vertical line. To stop centering, you press command
left brace. No highlighting required, you just issue the commands for alignment
where you want them and off you go, but remember to left-align after you are
done centering or everything will be centered. Am I right here? Do even bold or
other format commands work this way? thanks.

Re: playing .ogg files in Itunes?

2012-09-25 Thread Chris Blouch
I posted about this when I tried it back in July. Did that solution stop
working? Here is my original message:

You can just use iTunes to convert your ogg files but you have to
install an ogg QuickTime plugin like this one:

http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/download.html

Unfortunately they haven't updated it in a while so if you're running a
64-bit OS you'll have to get info on iTunes and check the "Open in
32-bit mode" box. After that you should be able to keep ogg files in
your iTunes library just like anything else. That also means you can use
iTunes to convert the ogg file to another format.

Re: possible Text edit discovery: can anyone confirm?

2012-09-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

That's fairly normal behaviour for a Word Processor. Consider that Bold,
Italic and such are applied to specific text within a given area whereas
alignment is applied to specific lines of text. Therefore, when the cursor is
on a certain line of text, and the center alignment is applied, that line of
text is centered. If your cursor was at the end of whatever you're typing, and
you set it to Bold, then everything from then on would be bold until you turned
that toggle off. If you put the cursor in the middle of some text, pressed
cmd-b to start Bold, then only the new text entered would be bold.

Hope that makes sense.

Dictation has no commands. However, speakable items offers many options you may
find useful; there are plenty of messages in the archives on how to set this up

Subject: Update Question

Hi all, I am at Guide Dog School. I just got notified by my computer that
an OS 10 has an update Do you advise that I go ahead with it or is it risky
since there is nobody here to troubleshoot? Is it much better than what
the last update? Mel

Re: Update Question

2012-09-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi mail me
I had no problem at all with doing the update and I have had no problems since
doing it. This is both true of the iPhone and of my Mac. I don't think you'll
have to, but I suppose you can always go on a freelance trip to get your
computer look at if need be. If you could talk instructor and the vet. I don't
think that I have to.

Now does this also mean that .ogg files will play on say for instance an
Ipad? The .ogg format is how I keep all my files.

You can just use iTunes to convert your ogg files but you have to
install an ogg QuickTime plugin like this one:

Unfortunately they haven't updated it in a while so if you're running
a 64-bit OS you'll have to get info on iTunes and check the "Open in
32-bit mode" box. After that you should be able to keep ogg files in
your iTunes library just like anything else. That also means you can
use iTunes to convert the ogg file to another format.

Re: playing .ogg files in Itunes?

2012-09-25 Thread Chris Blouch
Nope. This is just adding the ogg codec stuff to quicktime on your
computer so iTunes (which uses QT) can handle it. Has no effect on
supported audio codecs on other devices. But with ogg files in iTunes
you could use iTunes to batch convert them to mp3 for your iPad.

How to write a path in terminal

2012-09-25 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

I will have to write a path in terminal, but how do I do that. Which format to
write paths in. Please show me an example.

If I want to do a speciffic task for everything in this folder with a given
nickname that could e.g. be .mobi, how can I do that. I mean which command to
use before the dot in windows it is *., but how is it on the mac?

Best regards Annie.

Re: How to write a path in terminal

2012-09-25 Thread Chris Blouch
A path or a pattern match? For example, to list all the pdf files in
your current directory you would do

ls *.pdf

where * is a wildcard that matches 0 or more letters. The path is where
the files live, so to list all the pdf files in your documents folder
you would do

ls ~/Documents/*.pdf

The ~ gets converted by the shell to be your login account location. So
for me it gets turned into

ls /users/cblouch/Documents/*.pdf

so the ~ can save a lot of typing.

Re: sharpkeys

2012-09-25 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi. Sure; It's pretty simple... Launch sharp keys, hit the add button,
choose the source key and then the key you want to remap it to, hit
okay, and when you're done mapping any other keys, hit the write to
registry button. The next time you boot into windows, those changes
should take effect.

Hope that helps,

Cameron.

Re: Mac with blackboard

2012-09-25 Thread Bejarano, Rafael P.
On strictly practical grounds, I would advise you to have a couple of other
browsers available for times like this. I had trouble using Angel, which is
course delivery software like Blackboard, with Safari, and what saved me was
that I also had Windows installed in Bootcamp. Unfortunately, one browser
and/or one operating system is unlikely to meet all of the accessibility needs
of the blind at this time.

Some folks claim ChromeVox on Chrome for OSX works better with

Re: revisitting Winamp for the Mac

Kind o' sort o, but, to tell the truth, not ready for prime time just yet.
Many buttons do not yet have help tags. It's impossible to skimm through a
track like you can with many other players. There is a play cue function, but,
no help or instructions how to add files to that table. Frankly, it is still
quite a mess; and, I would not yet recommend it.

Calibres ebook-converter

2012-09-25 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

Can any of you, who are used to use calibres ebook-converter guide me a little.
Maybe it will be easier off list, I simply can not get that to work.

Here are my questions.

1. do I need to turn anything on in calibre before the ebook-converter works?

2. Can I convert a library of books at a time.
3. can anyone give me an exact description that will get it to work.

Best regards Annie.

multiple accounts in the new Messages app

2012-09-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I know I asked this a while back, but I can't figure it out and I'm hoping
someone on here has been able to. In the new Messages app, I have my Google
Talk and iMessage accounts set up. I want to switch between them, so I can talk
to Google Talk people (or stay offline in that account) and then talk to
iMessage people, convenient for when friends with iPhones text me and I'm at
home on the mac. However, I can't seem to get rid of gTalk; it is the only
account I can bring up to use, while my other account is set up and enabled but
refuses to make an entrance. So, how do I do this? How can I use my iMessage
account at all, let alone separately from Google Talk? I have unchecked the
"show all buddies in one list" option, or whatever it is called, but that made
no difference. What am I missing? Thanks.

Have a great day,

RE: running windows along side the mac

So there were steps provided earlier from a lister on how to use bootcamp.
One part said:
"It will ask you how large you want the bootcamp partition to be.
I think you have voiceover support here.
It is a slider to adjust how large the mac partition is vs. the windows
partition."
How much should be for each OS?
I have 4 gigs of memory for both machines.
The one that will be the primary should have the most right? Or am I not
getting this.
I am almost at the point of starting the process.
Lol, I'm just afraid I might break something haha.

Database Application for the Mac

2012-09-25 Thread Harry Hogue
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of an accessible database application I could use on the
MacBook Pro running OSX Mountain Lion. I would like to keep things like misc.
confirmation number, details of appoints (doctors, dental, etc), and just lists
of people's names, numbers, addresses, etc. that I would not otherwise need to
have in my contact list.

I hope this makes sense. I thing Microsoft Access is supposed to do something
like this, but I wasn't sure if an equivalent existed for the mac.

Thanks for your help,

Harry

There should be a table next to the list of contacts if you have all of
your contacts showing in a single window. At least, for me, if you VO space on

do this all of the time, actually, between my Yahoo and AOL accounts.

Re: Database Application for the Mac

2012-09-25 Thread Alex Hall
I know the iDatabase iOS app is very accessible, at least it was last year when
I tried it out. I would therefore expect the mac app to be just as good, and
it's only $10. Best of all, it syncs over wifi (though not iCloud) with your
devices, so anything you do on your iOS device should appear on your mac and
vice versa. You can also back up to, and restore from, dropbox if you want to.
Again, I can't promise accessibility on the mac, but I can make a pretty safe
guess that it will be there.

vlc advanced options?

2012-09-25 Thread Kliphton
2 things. Are there advance options in VLC player? Like if I'm watching a
series of movies, or files, is there a way to have it just go to the next file,
or do I have to do it manually? Also, I have a friend who just bought a Mac
mini. And I am helping him with my limited skills with the mac and voice
over.lol 1 thing he has going on that I've never seen is, every time he goes
to the desktop, it says "macintosh HD" Follow by some other message, how do we
get rid of this, or remove the macintosh HD from the desktop, or list of things
spoken? Thanks.

Re: vlc advanced options?

2012-09-25 Thread Timothy Clark Music
howdy,
 vlc does have advanced options.
check out the file menu. also, check out preferences.
nothing says advanced menu but there are advanced options in VLC.
as to your other question, if you hold down shift then hit down airo it will
highlight your files. so then you can open them and they will play one after
the other.
another way to do this is when you go to open a file you can put entire
folders into vac as well.
 hope all of this helps.
 god bless
