Changing smtp server port with VoiceOver in Apple mail on Mountain Lion

2012-09-11 Thread Shai
Hello,
An email account that I am using needs me to change my smtp server settings
to a different port. When I go to the edit smtp server list within the mail
preferences section and try to change the port and tab over to the okay
button and vo plus space on it, I get the message that mail could not save
the changes because a conflict occurred and that two smtp servers can not
have the same settings. I also tried going to the edit smtp server list
and then hitting escape after changing the port but when I restart mail
again it reverts back to the default.
Other than removing the account and setting it up again, would anyone
happen to have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any responses
Shai

Emptying the trash.

2012-09-11 Thread Joanna West
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone might know what to do when you can't empty the trash.
I'm cleaning out my external hard drive, and I'm trying to keep the trash empty
in the process. However, everytime I try to empty it, nothing happens. I even
went into the menu bar and it told me the action was dimmed. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Re: Emptying the trash.

2012-09-11 Thread Alex Hall
Are there items in your trash? Normally, when you delete from external drives,
the items are gone or stored on a trash folder on the drive (if it's big
enough). Only items deleted from your mac's internal hard drive are put in the
mac's trash folder.

If the external drive has no trash, the items would simply be gone. Unless the

Bill,

Be sure you're not using QuickNav. You can then press down arrow to go
through the list of spelling suggestions. it isn't an option I have to use
a lot, but if there is more than one spelling suggestion, continuing to
press down arrow should do the trick. Also, pressing space will select the

stopping vo from reading constantly changing text?

2012-09-11 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I am wondering if vo can be stopped from reading constantly updating text? For
instance, when you copy a large folder, both the amount copied and the item
being copied are always changing as the operation progresses, so vo keeps
trying to read the new information. Unfortunately, this usually means you never
hear anything finish, so the best you can do is the first number in the amount
of data or part of the word "copying" in the field telling you which item is
being copied. Is there some tracking or something I can temporarily disable
just to check the status, especially as finder's copy dialogs have no progress
indicators? I can copy the last phrase to the clipboard and paste it, but it
seems like there should be an easier way. Thanks.

another option is for around 100 dollars you can pick up a stereo speaker set

Hello,

Yes. It is necessary, as we pay for the captchas to go to Amazon Turk, and
simply add enough for ourselves to continue to operate. Our livelihood is the
programs and services that I develop, so without charging we could not do this.

Re: ZCaptcha Released

2012-09-11 Thread Earle
I understand the need to make money and the need to pay for server costs etc.
I just don't think this is a realistic option for most people. Webvisum iOS
free and the nightly builds of fire fox work well enough with voiceover to
solve captious. I just don't see the point in paying for something that can
already be done for free using existing methods.

Re: [Maccessibility] Google Releases Official YouTube App

2012-09-11 Thread Scott Davert
Hmm. From what I've been reading on AppleVis, it is accessible, but
not in the conventional method. Which begs the question of what
defines accessibility? is something not accessible if you cannot
accessit using the standard functions of your screen reader? As I
understand it, the Sign in process can work without disabling
VoiceOver. Essentially, the app is divided in to columns, and the
standard flicking left and right gesture does not work. However, if
you touch the screen in the appropriate place, VoiceOver is able to
give the info to you. But to get to the other column on the screen,
you have to tap something on the right side of it, and then tap the
left side to get back to that series of columns. I'll have to play
around with this when I get the time, but as I understand it, this is
how it can be done.

Re: ZCaptcha Released

2012-09-11 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hello,

Yet WebVisum is only on Firefox, which many blind people, including myself,
don't use. If it were paid, it would probably expand to other browsers, but
because it is free, users of it are subject to the whims of the developers.

This morning alone we've had 7 requests, so people are finding it of use. It is
OK if you are not one of those, but there seems to be a market for it.

Thank you for your feedback.

Also, I never could get webvism to work and finally uninstalled it in disgust.
Besides, it is firefox only, and, for now, the mac has no accessible firefox

Re: Is the old Google Groups finally Gone

2012-09-11 Thread Esther
Hi Brian and Kawal,

The old Google Groups is still around, but I don't know for how much
longer. I got shunted into it, but was able to get back to the old
format by using item chooser menu to find "Settings" and then after I
used VO-Space I was able to arrow down to the last entry, which was
something like "temporarily revert back to the old Google Groups".
The problem is that I think you may have to do this immediately upon
finding yourself in the new Google Groups pages for this to work.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

[Maccessibility] Google Releases Official YouTube App

2012-09-11 Thread Maccessibility
Title: [Maccessibility] Google Releases Official YouTube App
Maccessibility has posted a new item, 'Google Releases Official YouTube App'

With the presumed imminent release of iOS 6, Apple will be retiring the YouTube app which has been included on its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices since their inceptions. As a result, Google Inc. has released an official app for its YouTube service.

Unfortunately, Google’s offering, while somewhat usable for VoiceOver users, includes [...]

Re: ZCaptcha Released

2012-09-11 Thread Buddy Brannan
Hi Earle,

TANSTAAFL, my friend. That's "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch".

While Webvisum is free (as in beer), at least, no cost to you, the service does
cost to maintain. We're talking about server space and bandwidth, at the very
least, possibly development costs as well. Remember when it went down for a few
days not too long ago, because of a registration renewal SNAFU? What if they
couldn't afford to renew the domain name or the space used to run it? They do
take donations, too.

What about the ill-fated Solona? It died right along with Bernardo. It was a
one man show, for all intents and purposes, and done by him, alone, for love,
because he perceived a need.

What is it about blind people that we don't want to pay for things that deserve
to be paid for?

Numbers Help with doing a Find

2012-09-11 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all, well the geniuses at Apple were no help, maybe that is why
they dropped the genius tag. All of this worked in Lion, but doesn't
work in Mountain Lion. I called Apple and the Voiceover specialist had
no clue how to use numbers and the numbers specialist I am pretty sure
had never heard of Voiceover, as it was like I was speaking Greek to
him. I of course emailed Apple Accessibility as well, and got the
typical we're aware of the problem and are working on it, but can't
comment when it will be fixed. Apple's customer service has really
gone down hill.

Here is my problem. I work with large spreadsheets in Nyumbers. A lot
of the time I need to jump to a cell that I know is 2/3 down the the
page. In Lion as crazy as this was, it worked, I would hit VO F enter
my search criteria, then hit VO G, followed by VO J, I assume this
pulled up a search results box, I would then do a VO shift down arrow
to interact act, and then a shift tab to jump to the actual result in
the page. Since installing Mountain Lion this shortcut no longer
works, and I haven't been able to find anything else to help me jump
to a search result in the page. Now hitting the shift tab actually
stops you from interacting with the page.

Has anyone found a way to do a search and find in Numbers? Thanks

Re: Apple TV and Voiceover and how does it work?

No, you can't use an Apple TV without a regular TV. The Apple TV is just a
little box that connects to your regular TV by HDMI kable.

Re: DJ software anyone?

2012-09-11 Thread Nic Parsons
Hi,

I'm not sure what software you're talking about. If you're referring to the
iTunes DJ, then it can be found in iTunes. If it's not listed in the
sources pannel, you can turn it on in the preferences for iTunes. But
please not this is perhaps not DJ software as you imagine. It basically
just creates a never ending play list to which iTunes continuly adds random
tracks. You can add tracks yourself, and you can allow anyone on your
network to add tracks and vote on existing ones with the iTuens DJ Party
function. If you google for iTunes DJ I'm sure you'll find a host of
resources. I ddi.

Re: activating bookmarks

2012-09-11 Thread Nic Parsons
As far as I know there are two main ways to access your bookmarks in
Safari. One way is from the Bookmarks menu in the menu bar. You can get
there by pressing VO M to get into the menu bar and then press B to take
you to bookmarks. Press VO Space to open the Bookmarks menu and then
navigate through the menu normally with VO and arrow keys. You can then
select any of these bookmarks normally with VO Space and it will take you
to the webpage. The other way to accesss bookmarks is within the normal
Safari interface, where the bookmarks are presented in tables. Tis I
suspect is where you are having your troubles. If you access bookmarks
here, pressing return or VO Space will not activate the bookmark link. To
go to the webpage you will need to navigate to the relevant bookmark, then
acccess the context menu by pressing VO SHIFT M, and then choose open. You
should probably put most of your bookmarks in teh bookmarks menu, not the
bookmarks bar. Save the bookmarks bar for a fewe favourite bookmarks. You
can then access these bookmarks in the bookmarks bar by using the short cut
keys CMND + numbers 1 through 9.

Re: DJ software anyone?

2012-09-11 Thread Ray Foret Jr
I fricken hate ITunes as a player. why? Simple. ITunes is too damn library
dependent. Let me explain. When I add stuff to the ITuens Library, it puts
files where it wants too; not where I want it too. I don't want ITunes
creating subfolders where I didn't ask for them. I have a large number of
untagged files which are just lose, and, they are exactly where I want them. I
can't add stuff to my ITunes library without having copies duplicated to that
ITunes library; because, every single time I try to add files without allowing
ITunes to copy them, ITunes crashes. I just do not have space enough on my
drive to have two copies of everything floating around everywhere.

What I want is this.

Give me a player which will allow me to open files from the regular browser
window; in the app if necessary, and, allow me to cue up one file after the
other instead of playing it immediately. I keep saying this; but, no one seems
to quite understand what I want.
Cog is the player that comes the closest to what I want; but, it sometimes
crashes, and, doesn't allow cross fading or overlapping. VLC appears not to
have those things either.

The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Re: Numbers Help with doing a Find

2012-09-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Brian,

This is messy, but it might work. I haven't tried it in Mountain Lion but it
works in Lion.

To find specific content,
Turn cursor tracking off;
Press Command-f and enter search term and press Return;
Stop interacting then navigate down and interact with scroll area;
Interact with table:
Find desired result;
Bring mouse to VO cursor and do a mouse click (VO-Shift-Space);
Stop interacting with table and scroll area;
Navigate up to next scroll area;
Interact with scroll area, Layout area, and Layout item;
You will be on the selected cell;
Press VO-Shift-T to identify the cell.

Cheers,

Anne

I have my MacMini hooked up to the home theatre and it sounds great. I
used the digital optical output and run it to the digital optical in on

Re: scanning apps

2012-09-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Chris,

The best OCR app for Mac is ABBYY FineReader Express but I've never managed to
get it to scan more than one page at a time. For this reason, I use VueScan to
do the scanning part. It will scan multiple pages into one file that FineReader
can then process all at once.

If you go down this route, I can send you my setup guide to make these two apps
work together.

FineReader can handle up to three languages in one document.

Cheers,

Anne
