Re: iMac Questions
OK first thing's first. drive creation date is date of physical drive manufacture. volume production date is the licensed software volume installation created date. the machine isn't a return system if you've purchased direct from apple or through it's reseller programme unless stated by the vendor. there is a legal purchase compliance set by apple which enforces the sale of new systems unless you go to the refurbished section of their site and purchase a refurb at a discounted price. as regards the issue, the internet error and voiceover issues are all part of an installation error so the best action is to boot your mac via the router to the internet and do a complete disk erase and rebuild. between a few of us here, we can advise on the method to disk erase and install OS X, it's bundled software and then going back to the app store and reinstalling your app, that's if you have downloaded the app from there. lew On 27 Mar 2012, at 01:18, Les Kriegler wrote: > Hi Lou, > > Well, the problem of losing internet connections persists. well, I tried that route already. what I got was "we are contracted with freedom scientific to provide equipment and software". the implication was they would not support apple hardware or software whatsoever. thats the state of arizona for you. btw, I already own a used iPhone 3gs. I am working to transition from t-mobile to AT&T (due to t-mobile's lack of response regarding their website accessibility policy) The person that handed it off to me didn't want it sitting on a shelf collecting dust. that was in trade for some computer work I did for his kids. unfortunately, I appear unable to make any similar arrangements for a mac book pro anywhere in the phoenix area. I was also recently handed a windows laptop that had some problems. I went to install linux on that only to discover that the HDD had croaked (the laptop is better than 7 years old and doesn't support booting from a usb device). so, I have a lot of barely operational old equipment that won't net me more than half a C note and 1 iphone that I am still learning how to use and this old hackintosh that I built more than 4 years ago. I don't know even when I am going to be able to get a replacement HDD for the laptop (and a replacement battery, which costs $120). basically what I have is a lot of recycled junk and 1 good device. -eric On Mar 26, 2012, at 7:56 AM, Chenelle Hancock wrote: > Hi Eric, > I do agree with you about having difficulties with purchasing equipment for > the blind when one has a certain amount of funds to work with each month. Re: iMac Questions
Hi Lou, Well, the reason I asked about a replacement is because I had a friend with a hard drive issue; she purchased her iMac from a reseller and they did replace the hard drive when she had issues with it. I have no problem with doing a complete erase and re-install, that sounds like the way to go. I scheduled a call with Apple this morning to discuss how to proceed, so will let you know the outcome of that call. Thanks. It's fairly easy, in my opinion, just to the following: • Press and hold the menu button for six seconds or so to bring the ATV to the Main menu. (or press the menu button lots of times until it seems like it's at the Main menu). It should bonk at you if sounds are set up properly. • Press the right arrow until it bonks, which will put you on the Settings item. If yours doesn't bonk for some reason, just press it 7 or 8 times, that should get you there. • Press the Select button twice, not a double press, just two times separated by a teeny bit so it will react properly. This will put you in the General settings area. • Press your down arrow until it bonks, then press the up arrow four times. This will place you on the Accessibility item. • Press the Select button twice. Same idea as earlier, don't press them so fast that it is like a double-press, just press it two times. VO will now be on. HTH. Later... On 2012-03-26, at 1:05 PM, Daniel Miller wrote: > Hi, > > Unfortunately, there's no way to mute VO. a slightly silly ipod question?
Hi folks, Please forgive me if this seems silly, but I neither have one, nor have I actually seen one so. does the ipod have an audio editor built in? does not really matter if it is vo friendly though that would make the task more fun. I must copy over two very small audio files confirm they are set at the desired levels and save them as mp3 files. perhaps .wav or aif if the person getting them can swing that. Want to be sure before I ask my friend if this can be done on an ipod, since it is what they have. logic dictates this should e a no brainer, hey it is an audio player after all smiles. I imagine itunes can do this, but asking to be certain. Thanks, Karen -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Zombies, Run
Hi. Can anyone here say if Zombies Run is accessible? I bought it, but I didn't get it to work. When I got someone to look at the screen, it was just black with nothing. I think I'll just reinstall it. It sounds like it's very cool to me, so I'd very much like to try it. Re: iTunes/Apple TV remote issues
I think you need to do what they call "Pairing" your Apple Remote so it only works with on or the other. Apple has a doc on how to do that here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1619?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US CB On 3/27/12 3:06 PM, Ed Worrell wrote: HelloListers, I am have ingsome issues with iTunes on my Mac Book Pro, and the remote for my 3Rd Gen. Update on Our iMac and a Question
I worked with an Apple rep and did 2 re-installs of Lion. The first was from the recovery partition which did not resolve anything. I then did an erase of the hard disk and then re-installed the OS. The dropping of the internet connection seems to be resolved. If I do a shut down of the system and then power it on, VO comes up talking. If I do a restart, I usually must bring focus to the Finder and then I hear VO speak. Don't know if that can be resolved. Now, as I had to redo my settings, I cannot seem to locate how to enable one letter navigation on the web. Can someone refresh my memory on this? Thanks. Hi. Go in to VO utility, then down to the commanders, select the quicknav tab and it should be there. Re: iPad, iPhone, Mac for the blind
Eric, Tell ya what I have not seen anything that says it is truly 30% more than other hardware. However, even if that were true, I'd gladly pay 30% more for a product that is of a higher quality than most other similar devices on the market. In fact when you start to consider and compare the cost of a PC to a Mac the PC is less expensive. THis is partially because vendors such as Dell, HP, etc. get paid by vendors to install trial software etc. on the machines sold. There are a lot of things that help to reduce the price of PCs. Also, consider the fact that many handset manufacturers are practically giving phones away to move them. THe carriers subsidize the handsets and then there are the offers of by one get one free etc. APple does not have to make such deals and yet people will stil purchase the product. So, what does that tell you? Apple sets the price and if you want the product you will pay for it. If not, then you did not want that product. Hey I traded/sold a G4 Mini for $200 and it was about seven years old. Could you sell a seven-year old PC for about a third of its original value after seven years? Probably not. Re: Selecting installation type and other options in Mac OS installers
Hi Victor, I've seldom had problems with installations and I've done many using the MacOS. Selecting a different destination usually happens after the "Agree to give up all your worldly possessions" dialog and the selection items are usually located in a Scroll Area that you need to Interact with. On occasion, some installers don't read what's in the Scroll area properly, but if you press on one, then press the Continue button, the next screen will actually tell you which drive the installation is going to. Normally, the first drive in the Scroll area is your Startup drive which in most cases is Macintosh HD. The customizable options usually are offered after the Drive selection screen and the Customize button is usually located to the left of the Continue button. The customizable options usually are in a Table and often have Checkboxes to select. The only installer that gives me much grief is for Flash Player. In that case, if I just use the tab key without VO keys, I can navigate it well enough to perform the installation. HTH. Later... Re: DAISY Player for the Mac/iPhone
Wait, you can't get read2go to work with Braille? i do it successfully using a refreshabraille, you just have to turn read2go's audio off and when you click the read button the book comes up fine. You also can use voiceover, with it in this fashion as well and have it read by section instead of by page if you're using just speech. If you're using braille by page works, your next and previous page is at the end of each page of text. But, I too would lo e to see a daisy something work with any of these devices, bookshare is getting a decent start though. Sorry, I had to jump in here with this one, but give that a try if you can and see how that works out for you. take care. Restoring an image using disk utility with VoiceOver
Hi, folks. I happen to have a 401 Windows desktop keyboard connected to my Mac, so I can take advantage of the VoiceOver numPad functionality. I'm trying to figure out when restoring images, how should I go about doing that exactly? I believe VoiceOver has mouse functionality, but that's not something I've heavily used-specificly within the restore tab of the disk utility application. Any tips/thoughts would be welcome from those who have experience in such situations. Thanks! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
