discrepqncy on activities feature
Hi list, I was just setting up some performance configurations for two applications i use often, applescript editor and preview. I have two discrepancies going on right now. I've set a hotspot 2 and monitor hotspot 2 on the result pane in applescript so that everytime text changes, it declares it to me without me having to go there. This doesn't work. Second discrepancy, i've set two gestures, shift flick left and shift flick right, which are particular to both applescript and preview whereas shift flick left from within applescript would open preview, and vice versa. However, when i assign the custom command/open application/preview, the assign menu pop up shows nothing. Has anyone experienced this? Re: Making iPhone remember Bluetooth pairing
Alex and others, I solved the problem in a more or less indirect way. It turns out that the Bluetooth keyboard apparently doesn't forget the pairing code. If I hit the reset button on the keyboard after turning it on, it works fine. I don't understand why, but I can live with this. Thank you very much, and we'll consider the problem satisfactorily resolved. Re: Making iPhone remember Bluetooth pairing
You want the keyboard to remember the pairing so that it will pair automatically when you turn your keyboard on. I had this issue last week. Just remember to pair when changing devices. bootcamp: windows 7 black screen issue
Hello all, I want to run windows 7 on my macbook. Take note, i said macbook, so no macbook pro or mba. This thing has a core 2 duo 2.4ghz processor and 4 gigs of ram. The graphics card is nVIDIA GEforce rt320m I believe. Why this is important will become clear in a second. I went around bootcamp's back because it messes up what currently is supposed to be my partition table. I have an NTFS partition big enoughfor windows 7, an HFS+ partition for the mac and yet another NTFS for writing files bn Windows. I did this because I am likely to need more data from my windows side. This is because I plan to run cakewalk sonar on it, together with a number of big sample libraries and software synthesizers. Now to the problem. The darn thing fights me at every opportunity. I preformatted the partition as NTFS because windows 7 doesn't automatically reformat a partition when you select it the way XP does, you have to enter some sort of custom options screen for that. Me doing this without sighted assistance for the most part cannot do this so I formatted using disk utility and the Tuxera utility. Anyway, until this point everything goes well. I select the partition, windows is being expanded, but then: When it tries to reboot into Windows, all I see is a black screen. Sometimes there's also a blinking cursor. Researching this issue, I found that this happens on iMacs due to a video card incompatibility with thbasic windows driver that is installed for NVIDIA devices. Checking that folder however there is no default NVIDIA driver, and placing said driver into the correct folder yields no results. I have tried this a few times now, even using 2 different DVD's. I haven't checked if it did at first, but now the partition where Windows has been expanded does not show up as a bootable partition in system preferences -> Startup Disk. I can however select it when holding down option during boot. That is, I can see the screen go dark, like Windows on a mac always does. The thing is that xp used to make the screen glow after that, but with 7 this does not happen. If anyone has a clue on how to fix this, please let me know. Command f5 problem
Hi. Suddenly my Command f5 stopped working. It won't turn VO off and on. I have tried with two different keyboards, and with the Apple Bluetooth keyboard I have tried both with and without holding down the FN key. When I do a VO-k keyboard command pressing all the other keys describes the key press and the vo function. But when I press command f5 and command f8 it simply repeats the key names. I can't find anywhere where I may have changed or disabled these commands. I have keyboard commander turned off, as a matter of fact. Any thoughts appreciated. Hi Bill! I do not know if the lay out is different but under snowy kitty! In system pref's under keyboard and then keyboard shortcuts tab you will find in the table of categories universal access then next to that in the table of commands at the end should be the command+f5 selector just check if that has become unchecked! And if so re checking it should solve that! hth Colin On 7 Jan 2012, at 17:40, Bill Holton wrote: > Hi. > Suddenly my Command f5 stopped working. It won’t turn VO off and on. Everything else works fine. As a matter of fact, I am replying to this message from the mini. Safari started acting funny, busy, refresh, busy, refresh, so I figured I'd shut down and restart VO. Normal or reverse video, no brightness inversion or other more advance colour management in the zoom option. I should say that there is also contrast control. I have also come across an extremely annoying bug when using VO with Zoom. You can't navigate the menu bar properly with the keyboard. It can be done with the track pad or by turning down the zoom level though. There are also a couple of keyboard shortcut conflicts between zoom and VO. . I have basically given up on using the Zoom component on the Mac. I will qualify this a bit as not to mislead. I didn't plan on using zoom that much and so bought an 11inch rather than the 13inch MBA. However I did get a connector to hook it up to my 32 inch TV and have probably only done this once or twice. You can tell by the fact that I often use the zoom at 30 times that my vision is on the low side of usable :) I am using JAWS with Zoomtext on the PC. I also have MAGic but prefer Zoomtext. I haven't had the stability issues you describe with Zoomtext. The thing I most love about my mac is the physical hardware it's self. I would often prefer to browse the web on my iPad. Re: iMatch - Removing Music
Hi Neil, Let me clarify a few things first. It simply replaces the iTunes Library database so that it reflects the iTunes Library that you've synced to the iTunes Match service from your computer. So, you'll see the "iCloud Download" button beside items that were originally on your iPhone as well as ones you've listened to that your iPhone downloaded. The deleting process I've found to be awkward as it works sometimes and sometimes you have to try it numerous times. The key though is to make sure that the song you wish to remove does not have the play focus. that is, when VO reads the title of the song along with the artist and such, it will say "playing" if it is the play targeted song. Simply double-tap another song then pause it so that you can act on the one you wish to delete. To delete it: • Double-tap and hold until you hear the blip blip sound then lift your finger. • Double-tap and hold again until the blip blip sound then swipe right or left. I usually swipe right but it seems to work either way. • swipe right again and a "Confirm Deletion" button will be there if it worked. • Double-tap on the "confirm Deletion" button and the song will be removed from your iPhone. This process works but sometimes I had to do things five or six times before it did what it was supposed to. I didn't find a consistent pattern although going to the top or bottom of the list seemed to do something one time. Other times it didn't right away. If you or someone else figures out the exact thing to make it work every time, let me know. Have a good one. Later... 1. the iTunes Match service does not actually remove the songs that you have on your iPhone when it is first set up. Managing lists in YoruFukouru
I'm trying to keep my twitter lists up to date using Yoru Fukouru. But I can't seem to figure out how I add people to lists I've already created. Is there a way to deal with lists through that interface, or do I need to go to the website to add people to my lists? If so… where exactly do I go? Thanks! RE: bootcamp: windows 7 black screen issue
Hello Florian, You wrote: "... I went around bootcamp's back..." Bad idea. Florian, I Have successfully installed Windows 7 via BootCamp on several MacBooks (Not MacBook Pros), although it has been quite some time since doing so. Nevertheless, in each case, I followed the BootCamp installation instructions to the letter said instructions being extremely specific in how to accomplish the task. So, I respectfully suggest that you do the same; in short, let BootCamp do what it is designed to do. Most Sincerely, Mark -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of f10r14n Sent: Saturday, January 07, 2012 6:50 AM To: MacVisionaries Subject: bootcamp: windows 7 black screen issue Hello all, I want to run windows 7 on my macbook. My only problem is that I have seen an app prove this person wrong. When I use Read2Go on my iPod 4th gen, it nearly always gives me a low memory warning. If I then go through my app switcher and take out everything, Read2Go once again runs fine. Re: Switching to a Mac from PC
well, in this case, I disagree. the tool is only useful if one can use it. Firefox is a fine browser (works well with ORCA in linux) but the folks at mozilla Inc. didn't want to support more than one version. I came up with a solution that involves having a few custom tags in the configure and compile scripts. all they would have to do is use a --include= argument to include the proper library files for core audio and accessible buttons/pane libs. this way, they can compile 3 versions (OS X, Linux and windows) and not have a completely separate compiler source tree. now, I am not a programmer, but I do have experience with troubleshooting program source errors (like missing libs, etc.). -eric On Jan 7, 2012, at 1:49 PM, Yuma Decaux wrote: > All i can say here is "it's not about the tool, but the man" > > > > > On 8/01/2012, at 7:46 AM, Ricardo Walker wrote: > >> Fire fox? thats not even accessible with voiceover. >> >> Ricardo Walker >> rica...@appletothecore.info >> Twitter & Skype: rwalker296 >> www.appletothecore.info >> >> On Jan 5, 2012, at 4:09 PM, Luca wrote: >> >>> I am using a mac since late 2010 and frankly have to say that i am >>> not going to switch to a mac with vo, too many bugs and things that >>> you cannot simply do with vo: advanced word processing, terrible >>> braille support, tinefficient web browsing (many sites simply dont >>> work with vo, and what about that busy bug in firefox? its making me >>> crazy), lots of bugs in non english standard voices, inability to >>> read the status bar in the main menu, and others. >>> Tell me some things that you cant do in windows an can do with vo in >>> mac.. i i cant find any... >>> Mr. L. Re: Fraser Speirs - Blog - Misconceptions About iOS Multitasking
I can definitely see the point the blogger raises about apps not sucking up CPU usage and battery life. However, I think that many blind people tend to use a good number of background apps at once. I use Awareness!, Music, and VO at once, and I'm sure that takes up a lot of memory. This might be an exception that proves the rule. I have never thought to wipe all the apps from the app switcher, though. When IOS started implementing "multitasking", this word was always put in quotes with a lot of grumbling from a lot of folks, saying that it wasn't "real multitasking". So, yes, I will be aware of the number of potential background apps I run, but won't go through and clear everything manually. Re: Fraser Speirs - Blog - Misconceptions About iOS Multitasking
Hi, The blogger is correct in relation to OS on smart phones. If an app reports straight away it doesn't have enough memory. Then either there is a memory leak in that app or some other problem in relation to the app not reporting correctly to the OS. You are hitting a bug, not a miss explanation of the OS handling of apps. Sean On 08/01/2012, at 10:38 AM, Shannon Dyer wrote: > Yes. With something like readToGo, it definitely matters. My only problem, though, is that this "bug" goes away once I clear the app switcher. I would like to see Apple's official stance on this multi-tasking topic. Hi chuck, I think people have missed the main point of your message and have gone on a tangent which isn't what you were asking. Large (magnification) on the Mac is very good from my understanding. You can quickly change the size of the font. But I do not know what the feature differences between Zoomtext and Mac Magnification. Only think I do know is that it is very feature reach. Web development and other like presentation tools under the Mac is very feature reach. On 04/01/2012, at 12:44 PM, Chuck wrote: > Thanks for the information. Re: Switching to a Mac from PC
Here are the main differences between ZoomText and Zoom on the Mac. Zoom on the mac doesn't offer windowed or partial screen magnification as ZoomText Does, though to It's benefit, it does offer several tracking options of how the screen moves with the pointer. I use Continuous mode. and of Course there is keyboard tracking as well. Like ZT, there is also font smoothing. Zoom does not have the doc reader app, but will happily move along with VoiceOver as VO reads text. Zoom can quickly change magnification with ctrl+ 2 finger up/down on the trackpad, which I find is just as handy as using the wheel on a mouse. What's Up With Facebook?
Hello folks: I use to be able to tag people successfully on Facebook by inserting the AT symbol in front of a person's name. However, when I try to do that now, the list of suggested names and pages no longer pops up. Did FB change something again? Thanks, Ezzie Ez Bueno Sent from my BrailleNote Apex Got Facebook? Re: a list of accessible apps?
Hi all, Sorry about the multiple or redundent messages. I recently got my 4S and I was trying out using the dictation feature on it. I didn't think the first message went through to the list here, but obviously I was wrong. And now you are saying, you had to post a third time about this? Yep? I was so enamored over the I-Phone, I forgot to tell you guys that I was talking about looking for a Bible app for my I-phone 4S. Does anyone know about this app and it's accessibility or lack thereof? RE: Switching to a Mac from PC
Hello All, I think I missed the genesis of this thread; but, as for zoom on the Mac versus Zoomtext for Windows, Zoomtext is far superior. This truly saddens me as, were they equal or more closely matched, I would use my Mac even more than I currently do. I have been lobbying AI Squared, the makers of Zoomtext, to port ZT over to the Mac. I hope, someday, that it will. I do not fault Apple for this as Apple is an OS developer where as AI Squared is a screen magnification company. I am certain that if Apple were primarily a screen magnification company it would be the best on the planet. Re: Switching to a Mac from PC
Just out of curiosity, can you name other areas of superiority of ZoomText over Zoom besides what I've mentioned? And do you think maybe these extra features add to the instability problems the OP mentions? I'm just curious, as Zoom does seem to run very flawlessly on the mac, limitations aside. And you don't have to pay $150 for upgrades every time the browser or OS is updated (I'm only stating what the Original poster said earlier). I think knowing what features ZT has that people want could help the folks at apple know how they can best improve Zoom. Myself, I never really miss the features I had with ZT and Windows. I get very close using Zoom and VO together on my Mac. Ymmv. On Jan 7, 2012, at 9:22 PM, M.
