Re: Sidebar and other Scroll Area Issues in Lion

2011-08-13 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

I know the point is that the sidebar is no longer working the way it once did
but, I find it easier to skip using the side bar all together. For example, If
I need to go to a home folder, just press command shift H, and type the first
few letters of the folder I want etc. What advantage did the sidebar have if
any? Just curious. Because I just gave up on the sidebar early in dealing
with my Mac.

Is this a new kind of control? I'm thinking of exploring the keyboard

Re: web navigation?

2011-08-13 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

I just don't see why it would matter. generally speaking, on the web, pressing
VO right aero or VO down arrow will land you in the exact same place. The same
for VO up arrow and VO left arrow. left and up moves you backwards and right
and down moves forwards. The only time this really matters is when interacting
with say a table.

Hello Chris. I already tried this and it doesn't work. VO just makes the
sound it makes when we can't do something.

Can you vo+space on the album, then interact with the table, and then
vo+right arrow over to the name column? then just vo+down arrow through
each track. It's annoying I know, but that's what you have to do. Apple
kind a broke the accessibility slightly in that area in ITunes 10.4. Same
goes with the sources list. You have to interact, then vo+up and down in
order to hear things as you move. It's downright annoying, but for now it's
what we have.

Chris.

Hello everyone. In ITunes 10.3 and earlier, if I activated the browser I
could choose to view my music by album, artist etc and my music would be
nicely grouped. I would like to be able to do this in ITunes 10.4. Now, I
have 500 songs in a table listed alphabetically. Any ideas on how to set up
ITunes to group music by album or artist?

Thanks so much and I hope you have a nice weekend..

Re: web navigation?

2011-08-13 Thread Scott Howell
That used to be the case, but there was some change. Of course depending upon
how you set the rotor, you would go up/down. In other words, if you have
selected links with the web rotor, you use up/down to navigate through the
available links. Lots of options for what is included in the rotor can be found
in the VO Utility, Web, and web rotor.

Re: Sidebar and other Scroll Area Issues in Lion

2011-08-13 Thread Scott Howell
Ricardo,

The sidebar just provides a quick way to access a number of items at once. In
other words, instead of having to hit command-shift -c for computer, etc. you
can use the sidebar to get to connected devices, your home folder, etc. It
really is a more visual tool, but is available with a little work using VO
navigation.

unhiding still does not work

2011-08-13 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay. I'm still having trouble unhiding all files in order to expose the
AudibleActivate.sys file on my HCSD card. Here's exactly what I typed in
terminal without the quotes.

"defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles ON" then press return then
press exit then return.

Am I still getting something wrong? I ask because when I try to arrow up and
down through the $VRAudible folder on the card, I still cannot see
AudibleActivate.sys

Ray,
That command will show all files that are proceeded by a dot. By definition dot

Re: deleting sections of audio in Amadeus pro?

2011-08-13 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Courtney,

you don't need the upgrade for deleting audio.

Set the insertion point on the left position where you want to start to delete
and press m. Set the insertion point then to the right end of the part you want
to delete and press CMD + arrow left. Then press CMD + backspace. Should be
done. But be sure you are working with the insertion point and not with the
playhead. You'll find a good introduction how to use Amadeus Pro on
http://maccessibility.net/guides/

All the best

VMware fusion and JAWS

Good morning,
How do I re-map my right command key to an insert key and my right option key

keyboard commander commands such as right option key, T for time?
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Re: system preferences not holding across sessions.

2011-08-13 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Joe,

Your System Preferences settings should stick, so it looks as though you have a
problem somewhere.

First thing to do is repair permissions. To do this, open the Utilities folder
(Cmd-Shift-u) and find Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, interact with the table
and select the second row which should be your HD. Stop interacting and
navigate right to select First Aid. Then go right again to Repair Disk
Permissions. Click this and wait. You can see what's happening by interacting
with the Results table.

If this doesn't fix your problem, try resetting the PRAM. To do this, shut down
your computer, then hold down the Command, Option, letter P and letter R keys
and, keeping these four held down, press the Power key and release it. Hold
down the four keys until you've heard the start up chime four times, then
release them and let the machine boot as normal.

If all this fails, you'll need to throw away the plist for System Preferences.
It will be rebuilt immediately, so don't worry. You'll find this plist in your
Home Library in the folder called Preferences (not Preference Panes). The file
is called com.apple.systempreferences.plist. The Library folder is hidden but
you can get to it in the Finder by pressing Cmd-Shift-g and typing "~/Library"
without the quotes. You can put a shortcut to this folder in your sidebar by
pressing Cmd-t once you've found the folder for the first time. Thereafter,
you'll just need to find it in the sidebar.

Cheers,

Anne

Abbyy FineReader Express Preferences Unavailable

2011-08-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Folk,

Well, imagine my shock when I discovered that the menu choice was grayed out. I
read about it on the Mac Updates site and apparently, the trial version is more
stable than the paid version, since there was more demand for trial software.

Does anyone else have this experience? Also, is there a configuration file to
explore in the terminal or text editor? I don't really need to adjust anything,
but I like to know the options.

Thanks,
Teresa

AbbYY FineReader for the Mac is an Express version and has no preferences.
However, it works fine and can recognise up to three different languages in one

Re: Abbyy FineReader Express Preferences Unavailable

2011-08-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Anne,

I have no quibble with the way it works. It does what it's supposed to do, and
very, very well. My curiosity always gets the best of me, though, and upon
acquiring a new piece of software, I check out all the menu items, just in case
my backbrain might remember them in a pinch. I simply wasn't expecting,
frankly, to pay a somewhat serious amount of money and have this item
unavailable. I will accept that I'm paying for the recognition and not the
pretty trappings, however, since FineReader has been pretty much legendary for
years now, and I had fantastic results using this OCR engine in Kurzweil in
Windows.

I did see a post about the GUI being "rudimentary" and I was inwardly hoping it
stays that way. :)

Thanks,
Teresa

Can you vo+space on the album, then interact with the table, and then
vo+right arrow over to the name column? then just vo+down arrow through each
track. It's annoying I know, but that's what you have to do. Apple kind a
broke the accessibility slightly in that area in ITunes 10.4. Same goes with
the sources list. You have to interact, then vo+up and down in order to hear
things as you move. It's downright annoying, but for now it's what we have.

Re: eye-pal

2011-08-13 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi May, There are a lot of things not to like about it. It's a native windows
app running in wine for one thing. No voiceover support. Crappy speech
synthesizers IMHO though opinions will vary. No braille support. Clunky
interface with counter-intuitive hotkeys and processes. and the price tag
which dropped here in canada by nearly 1 third in February and is still fart
too high.

On the plus side, it's fast, accurate, portable, nice-looking when set up on a
desk. ABISee has given me very little cause to complain about support. And
it's the only thing I've found on that just works on the mac. No complicated
string of off the shelf software one for each part of the process. No scanner
compatibility or driver accessibility issues. No processing in the cloud.
Just press the button and let it fly.

Best,

Erik Burggraaf

Re: Good news for all writers

2011-08-13 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Mark..

I have installed storyist, I would like to use it for creating epub files.

But how do I read the text when I have imported a document. I can not find the
text anywhere so that I can create headings and prepare it for epub conversion.

I hope you can tell me, what I am doing wrong.

Best regards Annie.

OT: CoreServicesUIAgent

2011-08-13 Thread Shen
Hello,
Sorry for the off topic post. Hopefully someone can point me in the right
direction.
Whenever I download an application and run it for the first time, I get the
CoreServicesUIAgent window telling me this is an application downloaded from
the internet and do I wan to open it. I usually just click Open and it goes
away. This only pops up when I open an application for the first time. This is
fine, I can understand this.
However, why is Lion doing this to me when I open mp3 files? I don't get it.
For every mp3 file I open, I will get this dialog window.
Does anyone know where I can modify this so that I don't see it for certain
file types like mp3s?
Thanks.

There is a sharp key file that allows you to do this, google sharp keys for
windows and you should find it. And know, it won't change your keys for the
windows side. If you can't find it by googling, email me off list and I will
send it to you.

found real neat tool

2011-08-13 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Hi there,

AS many of y'all will be aware, I've had issues exposing the
AudibleActivation.sys file on my Victor Reader Stream HCSD card using my Mac.
Tonight, I've found a solution which I"m very happy with. It's called Tinker
Tool. It can be found here:

http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html

You'll be happy to know that this little tool is completely accessible!!! Does
the job quite nicely!!

OF course, another thing about this little app is that it costs absolutely
nothing.

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Re: iMac display questions

2011-08-13 Thread Chris Blouch
As far as using it as a dumb VGA display, there is no "video in" on the
iMac. You could do some screen share stuff like VNC to access your your
PC screen remotely on the Mac over a network, but that's probably not
what you were asking for.

Re: Burney to the rescue?

2011-08-13 Thread Chris Blouch
Then it sounds like the usual long slog of contacting the developers and
asking them to make things work with voiceover. Of course the Apple II
part won't since that's an emulated machine so don't expect to control
AppleWorks or Visicalc through VO. But the 'chrome' of the application
such as loading up disks and such ought to be doable.

issue with google chrome

2011-08-13 Thread Eric Oyen
well,
I wanted to try out google chrome today and couldn't even get past the select a
search engine interface. all it presented me with was 3 images and 3 unlabeled
buttons. also, I couldn't use any of the web item rotor controls and even
command Q would not terminate the application. so, unless anyone has some
suggestions on how I can use chrome, I guess I am still stuck with safari.

I really hate the thought of going back to windows after spending a year in OS
X. I hated dealing with windows and its arbitrary interface that wasn't very
blind friendly (even with NVDA). anyone have any clues for me?

Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-13 Thread Shen
I have the same problems with Chrome. But when I was prompted to choose a
search engine, I chose the first image button. I figure the choices are
probably Google, Yahoo and Bing. I'm quite certain Google is the first choice,
and I was right.
I am able to read an html site, but for some reason, some links don't click.
Drop down menus like amazon.com does not work. When I type something in an edit
box, apparently it is going into the box, but VoiceOver does not read it back
to me.
I can't use tab navigation the way I do in Safari.
In Chrome Preferences, I can get past the first tab, which is Basic.
In my opinion, Chrome is somewhat accessible, but it's not ready to replace
Safari.
I wish there is something that can replace Safari. At this point, I'm ready to
go back to Windows and using Firefox with Jaws or Window-Eyes. At least it's
not going to say "Safari busy".

Sendspace wizard and sendspace.com

2011-08-13 Thread Shen
I'm curious if anyone has been able to navigate the sendspace.com website using
Safari 5.1 in Lion.
I know the wizard is not accessible, so that's out of the question.
I just discovered today that if I tried deleting a file on sendspace.com using
Safari, it will go into endless busy.
Chrome isn't coming to the rescue because I can't even log in. Clicking on the
log in link and nothing happens.
