Ricardo, The sidebar just provides a quick way to access a number of items at once. In other words, instead of having to hit command-shift -c for computer, etc. you can use the sidebar to get to connected devices, your home folder, etc. It really is a more visual tool, but is available with a little work using VO navigation.
