Re: accessible weather apps
Carolyn, I saw your initial post, but did not ask if this was for the Mac or iOS. Unfortunately App Store may refer to either platform. :) Maybe eventually all devices will run on the same OS. skype 5 and vo
I have recently installed skype v5 release. I am a bit confused by the interface it presents. I know how to make a call to a contact, but wonder if there are shortcuts available to get to the dial pad, how to manage and see events like friend requests, general shortcuts to navigate the interface, etc. Why do I see something called html content, and once I get out of my source list, how do I get back to it? How do I navigate what seems to be my history, where it shows things like today, this week, etc. As I say, I am able to call a contact an with a ton of key presses, navigate to the dial pad to make a phone call. Beyond that, this interface confuses me. Thanks for any halp possible. Marlaina -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: skype 5 and vo
the source list is where you find your so-called history. Just interact with this source list and VO+right arrow in to each item. When you find an item you want to deal with, just stop interacting with the source list. To close an event, just use command+w. The dial pad is located inside the tool bar which is itself just to the left of the source list. Once the dial pad button is pressed, the dial pad is presented in touch tone fission. ONce you pressed all the digits of a number you want to call, press the call button, located at the very bottom right most of the dial pad area. ONce a call answers, the dial pad can again be pressed and you can enter digits as for things like your bank or Newsline or some other such thing. Sincerely, The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!! to use or not to use the disk that comes with airport extreme
Hello all, I recall that when I got an airport express to connect to my stereo, so that I could stream audio from ITunes, somebody on this list advised that I not mess with the disk that came with the Express. Just plug it in and use airport utility already on my Mac. And that worked great. I note that the getting started instructions found on Apple's site for the Extreme advise one to use the included disk. Since the airport utility is still on my Mac, I wonder at those instructions, but its hard to go against what Apple is saying to do. RE: scanning and the mac
Just doing a little catching up here.. after a windows 7 crash(ugh!).. this is one reason I really want to switch, windows is always crashing.. anyway.. Thanks to everybody who answered my scanning question.. For now, because of school, looks like I'll have to keep the win machine around for the k1000 part at least. Once we're done with that, maybe we can just get a stand alone eye pal or something to scan our post every day and do occasional books or whatever and go all mac for everything else. Who knows what else will spring up between now and then? The issue is if you try to run Windows without running it as a virtual machine. The sound usually works if you are running Windows through Fusion as a virtual machine. But, if you choose to boot to Windows instead of booting into Snow Leopard and boot directly into Windows there is a good chance that you will not have any sound in Windows due to some kind of sound driver problem that Apple and Microsoft neither seem to have a good answer to. But, luckily it only happens on the MacBook Pro 13. Mary, go ahead and ignore APple. :) Seriously, the software on your machine will likely be more current and just run Software Update when in doubt. downloadable audiobooks from public library questions
Hello all, I hope you're having a nice Monday. :) I was searching my library's book catalog for my children. I noticed that they offer audiobooks for download. It said that I can play these on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod. I am on a mac running Snow Leopard. Is the download process available for the mac platform? If so can this be done using voiceover both on my mac and on my iPhone? If so, what do I need to do to download these audio files onto my mac? Is it straightforward to put the book on my iPhone after that? I realize these files expire after a set period of time just like checking out a book. Is this process more difficult than it's worth? Re: skype 5 and vo
you aren't the only one. However, the devs at Skype have done several such interface tweaks. there also seems to be a problem with how Skype 5 notifies growl. if you are not focused on Skype chat, growl works ok after a fashion. However, if you are focused on the chat window, there is no growl output or even the sound that a message came in. I ended up rolling back to Skype 2.8 because that worked as it should. -Eric On Feb 21, 2011, at 5:46 AM, Marlaina Lieberg wrote: > I have recently installed skype v5 release. Re: drop box still not working in public folder
Hi Marlaina. When you're focussed on the file you want in your dropbox public folder, you want to do VO shift M on it. This will bring up the standard finder context menu. However there should be an additional submenu for dropbox. From there you should find the option to get the download link for said file. It will copy the link to your clipboard. It is possible that the dropbox submenu might only be available once the file has finished uploading to dropbox. I've never tried to access that submenu until after the upload was finished. Unfortunately the only way I've found to reliably tell if the file is finished uploading is to keep an eye on the network traffic section of activity monitor. Of course this only works if you're not doing much other network activity at the time. HTH. Re: mac word 2010 not accessible--voice over will not work,
Some like Open Office and it is free, but I prefer iWOrks. As far as faxing, my HP Laser Jet came with some really good software that is friendly enough to send/receive faxes. Well I have not tested the receive side really, but I can use ABBYY to scan whatever faxes come in. I do not receive faxes often, but send several and no problems. Re: drop box still not working in public folder
Sometimes when VoiceOver-shift-M works where the mouse cursor is instead of the voiceover cursor. So try routing your mouse to your VoiceOVer cursor. The command for this is VoiceOver-command-F5 THis sounds like one of the few places where a AppleScript to control VoiceOver would truly help. Fax information.
If you have a scanner / printer combo then the macintosh will work directly with it for sending faxes. Try going into your system preferences select Printers Scanners and Faxes Then click the add button. within the window that appears there is a pop up menu that has your current printer highlighted if you select this then there is a item at the bottom to choose software... If you do this then you can search for devices with the name fax in them... Also, I believe that if you purchase the USB Apple modem, it can automatically be configured to do faxing. Re: drop box still not working in public folder
Hi Marlaina, I'm not sure whether it will help to go over this again or not, since I'm not running the latest version of Drop box. But I'll start from scratch. First, make sure that the file you want to share is actually in your Dropbox/Public folder. From Finder, press Command-Shift-H to go to your home directory, then press Command-Shift-G ("Go to Folder"), and type or paste in: Dropbox/Public into the text box and press return. Your Finder window should show files that are in the Public folder of your Dropbox folder. Navigate to one of these and bring up the context menu with VO-Shift-M. Now VO-Down arrow through the menu. You should hear VoiceOver announce in succession: "Open", "Open with, sub-menu", then "Dropbox, sub-menu". When you reach "Dropbox, sub-menu" press VO-Space. You should hear VoiceOver say "Dropbox, sub-menu; Browse on Dropbox site…". VO-Down arrow again twice. You should hear VoiceOver say "View Previous Versions…", then "Copy Public Link". When you reach "Copy Public Link", press VO-Space. You should now be able to paste the link (with Command-V) into a mail message or text file. Sorry to be heavy-handed about this, but these commands should work whether or not you have TrackPad Commander on or off, and regardless of your cursor tracking settings. Let us know if you still don't see a Dropbox sub-menu. HTH. Cheers, Esther On Feb 21, 2011, at 09:08, Marlaina Lieberg wrote: > I do not get the drop box sub menu. Re: drop box still not working in public folder
Esther, I followed your directions to the letter and I hear new folder, get info, paste item, view, arrange by and view options. I have tried going to the dropbox app and opening it and then navigating back to the dropbox public folder and still no luck. I am assuming my dropbox is installed, since I am sharing folders with a couple of friends. I just cannot seem to get this stuff going in the public folder. I tried to uninstall dropbox and it told me it could not move dropbox to the trash because dropbox was running. I see that I have several .dmg versions of dropbox in my downloads and thought maybe I could revert to the earliest one. I just don't know why it's not working and again, I absolutely followed your instructions to the letter. Re: drop box still not working in public folder
Hi Marlaina, OK, a further dumb question. Can you actually open any of the files that are in your Public Dropbox folder? For example, if you loaded up a document or PDF file, when you are in Finder and select the file that you tried to bring up the context menu for, can you press Command-Down Arrow to open the file and read it? I'm trying to verify that the file has been completely uploaded. If you can't open it, then I wouldn't be surprised if you also can't get a link to it. If you have other (older) files in your Dropbox folder (not necessarily in your Public folder) that you can open and read, when you do a Command-Up Arrow from the Public folder, what happens when you copy one of these (Command-C), move back down to the Public folder (Command-Down Arrow), paste in the file (Command-V), and then, after a short pause to let the file copy (if it is at all lengthy), what happens when you try the context menu selection (Command-Shift-M) sequence again? It sounds as though you don't have access to the cloud (which is what you're saying about getting the regular Finder commands). In my Public Folder there is a file named "Top Secret.txt" (from an admittedly old distribution). When I open this with Command-Down Arrow, the file reads: You can get a public link for any file in your Dropbox's Public folder. Simply right click (or control click) on a file, click the Dropbox submenu, and then click 'Copy public link.' Any chance that there is such a file in your Public Dropbox folder? Does the context menu work on that file? (And yes, if I route my mouse cursor to this file and Control-Click by holding down the Control key with a clicking my trackpad, I can press down arrow and move through the same menu options as before, then right arrow at the Dropbox sub menu, and down arrow to the "Copy Link"). I badly want to get to that (inaccessible) status bar icon to check your network connection! Sorry not to have more thoughts. When I press VO F5 to varify what is under the mouse, It says nothing is under the mouse, even though when I moved the mouse, it said I was on my playlist. 3. I press VO command shift space to start the drag. I hear the appropriate mouse click sound. 4. VO Shift F3 turns off curser tracking. 5. Move to my ipod. 6. Press VO command F5 to move the mouse cursor to vo curser. When I press vo F5 to hear what is under curser, it says nothing is under cursor. 7. Pressing vo command shift space releases the mouse. I hear the appropriate mouse click sound. 8. Turn off cursor tracking by pressing vo shift f3. So basically I'm being told nothing is under my mouse. Please help. The system dialog is usually a fairly important message. 1. WHy did you unplug a disk without unmounting / ejecting it. 2. Time Machine had a problem backing up your computer. ... Shredder chess impressions
Hi All, I was pleased to read this morning that Shreder has been made accessible with VoiceOver. This is a big-name Chess program, and so I thought I'd give the full verssion a try. Thus far, I'm quite impressed. I've been able to play and analyze a game, try my hand at a chess puzzle, and fiddle with the game's settings among other things. I'm not sure what they might have left out of the accessibility support, but i doesn't seem to be much. I was particularly impressed at the analysis mode, as there didn't seem to be any noticeable lag when using it with VO. So, all in all, I'm happy we have another Chess alternative. Now, if only the makers of Civilization for the iPhone would do the same thing.. Best, Zack. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: iWork Numbers Detailed Look
I believe this was a more complete look. I had wished to see that changes made would stick. Some thoughts ffrom somebody that has used Numbers for about one hour... 1. Mouse clicking on cells is important. 2. It appears that Numbers likes most of the page style to be outside the spreadsheet area. If one brings up one of the templates provided by Apple, There are usually text and graphic boxes around the table / tables within the layout area. 4. Kevin appeared to be trying to do several things with styles. Header 1, Header 2, Header 3. are inherited from HTML Where there are several header levels. Since Tables (and actually Excel 2007 orgreater) want the user to actually select rows as headers of a table this functionality is probably better done that way. The other styles that were mentioned appered to be at the format style of the numbers which Numbers calls something quite different than Style. I would be curious if a blind person could create a text box centered over the top of a table . One other point... Numbers seems to not be fixed with the idea that the fifth column is "E" This was something I first saw on the NeXT Operating System under a Lotus product. Can anybody explain how this works when starting a new sheet or table? Jon Jonathan C.
