Yes, you press command and delete. You will then find the messages in your trash mailbox. You then press command shift key and then delete. You will be asked if you want to delete from all accounts. You will also be given a warning that this may delete other things like notes. Press yes and the items will be deleted from your trash mailbox. Scanning via ABBYY FineReader express.
Greetings, I just installed ABBYY's trial version and reinstalled the software/driver for my HP c7250 AllInOne printer. (Reinstalling cured my insecure startup item problem BTW, but I digress.). I can scan using the HP app, however upon pressing the convert to text button, VO emits the following: "system ScanTwain needs attention", and fineReader appears to hang. I located the HP scan app in the status menu via the mouse moves VO cursor option and scanned with the document profile. The scanner whirrs and appears to complete, however the fineReader continues to hang. I force quit the app, but when I restart the ABBYY app but it apparently reissues the message regarding ScanTwain and hangs. All functions within the app result in VO emitting the word: "busy". I located the hp scan window and pressed the button indicating that there were no more pages, but this had no affect. HTH for any advice. Maybe time to contact ABBYY? Re: defaults delete command -> was moveAddict kills tracking.
Hi Geoff, I haven't been following this thread about moveAddict and tracking, but there's usually some attribute or parameter that follows a defaults write or defaults delete command. Most software applications have property list (or "plist") files that store your preference settings for how the application behaves. They're conventionally named according to the company that devised the application and the name of the application or function -- hence "com.kapeli.moveaddict" in this case. The preference settings for your Apple programs might have names like "com.apple.mail.plist" or "com.apple.Safari.plist". They're stored in the Library/Preferences folder for your account, so if you're in Finder and use the Command-Shift-G ("Go to Folder") shortcut, then type or paste in: ~/Library/Preferences/ and press "return", you should find a file named "com.kapeli.moveaddict.plist" in that directory. Most users are familiar with setting preference options by typing Command-Comma and selecting preferences within the preference pane of an application. However, there are generally a lot of "hidden" attributes that can be tweaked, either by using a plist editor or by typing a command in Terminal. What I don't understand is why there is no attribute following your command. General a value is changed with "defaults write" command and an attribute could be removed with a "defaults delete" command. For example, if I wanted to force mail to display all messages as plain text, I could open Terminal and type the command: defaults write com.apple.mail PreferPlainText –bool TRUE This sets the PreferPlainText attribute in Apple's mail preferences file to the Boolean value of "TRUE". Usually if you use "defaults delete" there is also some argument or attribute following the name of the property list file (which is com.kapeli.moveaddict). When you get a message back like "the domain/default pair of (com.kapeli.moveaddict, does not exist", it's usually a clue that you need to provide a specific argument or match to the format of the property list. I'm pretty clueless about what's going on in your case, though. I'll just ask: when you got the MoveAddict.dmg file, did you get a folder that was labeled "Accessibility" with a separate preferences file and a Readme file? The Readme file said: moveAddict Accessibility Information The moveAddict application only has a menu icon. It does not have a dock icon or a normal menu like other applications. Its icon sits next to Appleʼs Time Machine, Bluetooth and Sound icons on the right side of the menu bar. Menu icons cannot be accessed by VoiceOver users. However, you can access moveAddictʼs preferences by opening the “moveAddict Preferences.app” from within this folder. If you use Growl, you can enable moveAddict notifications from Growlʼs settings. Accessibility support for moveAddict is a work in progress. Please let me know if you have any problems while using moveAddict. I welcome any suggestions on how to make moveAddict more accessible. Thank you! Note: If you get an error when you open “moveAddict Preferences.app”, open “moveAddict.app” and then reopen “moveAddict Preferences.app”. Chapter Change or break character in Audio Files
I have several chapters of an audio book that I'd like to put into one file and listen to it on my VR Stream. I've figured out how to put the files together but I'd like to know what the character is to cause the book to recognize chapters. Does anyone have an idea of what the character is? I'm using the cat command in the terminal to put the files together. I'd take any suggestions on how this might be done with any other tool as well. Re: iTunes Shortcut
Hi Robert, Are you thinking of VO-Command-T and VO-Command-Shift-T to jump between the source list and the song list? The other thing you can do is use Control-F7 to toggle between whether tabbing moves you through all controls or just lists and text boxes. (This is not VoiceOver specific; it's described on the Keyboard shortcuts tab of System Preferences > Keyboard menu). HTH. Re: scanning software for the mac
I personally use ABBYY Fine Reader Express. It will interface with most twain compliant scanners. Others will have something to say on this subject as well. As far as installing software, I will give you the most basic information because there is a lot to cover as far as technical details. So, basically you have software that is rapped in a disk image and most of these have an extension of dmg. This disk image when opened mounts to the desktop and contains the application or perhaps an a self-contained installer package, which incidentally has an extension of pkg. SOmetimes software is simply archived as a zip file and once opened it generally will extract the contents of the zip in the same location (i.e. in the downloads folder if that is where your downloads are located). If the file is an app (not a pkg file or installer) you can simply copy the app into the Applications folder. When you run the app, it will create any preference files etc. If the app is an installer package, you would not copy this to the Applications folder. You can just run it from wherever you are and it will install the software and any other supporting files into the proper locations. You can unmount the disk image by selecting it and pressing command-e to eject the disk. This is a very quick and dirty description without piling to many details on you. There are a lot of great resources out there that cover the topic in greater detail and you might want to do some reading and research. I am sure others will have plenty to share on this topic as well. Hope that helps some and gets you started. Solona nearly never available lately
Say, Has anybody here noticed that Solona seems never to be available during the past two months or so? Every single time I log on or tried to use it or just check to see if it's available, it always reports not available. radium 2.7.5, has anybody used it?
Subject line says it all. This is an application that is suppose to give a better interface than ITunes for listening to radio streams and also some online services. This is according to a blurb I just saw in an online MacWorld newsletter. Well, let me say this. I did indeed hear that he is ill. I suspect, though, that it wasn't helping the blind that made him sick. Perhaps it was some underlying condition. What ever the case may be, I do hope he gets well. By way of personal reflection, I can't help but wonder what we Mac users can do to effect a software based solution. Re: Solona nearly never available lately
Is there any way we can send him well wishes or something? I have tried emailing him, but that hasn't gotten a response, probably because the poor fella is sick. Does anybody have a contact where we can send him cards or some such? It breaks my heart. I wouldn't be surprised if he became ill. The man was staying up to solve captchas. I told him to not do that because one needs sleep to be well. But he probably did it anyway. Re: Solona nearly never available lately
Wow. This is very sad indeed. I've never heard anything about this before. I certainly hope he gets well. As hard as he was already working on the captcha solution service, he had expanded into other areas and it seemed like things were doing very well. In fact, just over a week ago I ordered one of his tactile screen protectors for my new iPod touch. This would explain why I never even received any confirmation. I was starting to be frustrated, but if he's ill I'm not even going to worry about that. It's possible that this is beginning to get off topic for the list, but I would like to share one last thought. If this is correct, The community really should make some effort to contact him. This individual is doing tremendous things for the blind community and we should demonstrate that we care about his wellbeing in return. First, where did you hear this news? There's nothing on the blog or twitter account, but I wouldn't really expect anything, given the situation. I'd just like to see the original list post and determine if there's an authoritative source or just rumors floating around the internet. One of the last posts on twitter from late October just says that he's been too busy to use twitter very much. If you have a link for a list archive or can forward the post itself, send it to me off list. je...@fastmail.us Justin On Jan 25, 2011, at 9:52 PM, Sarah Alawami wrote: Oh no! Yeah you can use nicecast to stream and run sound flower so you can hijack your mic if you are ever goign ot get ont he air and unhijack it via audio hijack to mute your mic thereby leaving voice over out of the loop. Re: Solona nearly never available lately
Wow that's sad. I think he deserves a medal. Steph - Original Message - From: Carin Headrick Is there any way we can send him well wishes or something? I have tried emailing him, but that hasn't gotten a response, probably because the poor fella is sick. Does anybody have a contact where we can send him cards or some such? It breaks my heart. I wouldn't be surprised if he became ill. The man was staying up to solve captchas. I told him to not do that because one needs sleep to be well. But he probably did it anyway. HTH Isaac - Original Message - From: "Ray Foret Jr" To: tried to use it or just check to see if it's available, it always reports not available. That, I guess, is one of the drawbacks to a human based solution like this, but, just kind of wondering what's going on? Sincerely, The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!
