Itunes: Track Info on Radio Stations?
Is there a component in ITunes that displays which track is playing on a radio station? I haven't found anything like this, at least not anything that VO detects. Well, I'm in south africa, and, I don't know of any such programs over here. I would also approach the Apple stores and repair shops to see if you could obtain a refurb or get some sort of discount, design a payment plan that results in the equipment after you have paid it all, etc. If worse comes to worse, write your member of parliament or congress or whoever might be able to leverage more immediate results. Some people have approached banks to see if there are low interest loans or churches to see if there are special assistance funds. It may help if you can get someone to video you using the equipment in various mods: E-mailing, word processing, web serving, and use that video when you do your presentations for funding. Jeff, SEE Finance is reportedly coming out with a VoiceOver compatible version soon. It was supposed to be out right before Christmas, hopefully within the week, we'll see. Re: editing bookmarks
Hi Marlaina! The command you need is command+option+b this will put you into the area where you can do what you want! If it is like mine you will be put on a search field! If you either vo+left arrow or shift+tab you will be on a table! On mine if I vo left I have to interact with the table but if I shift tab I'm already interacting! In that table you've got different options including bookmarks bar and others! Pick the one you want and stop interacting! then scroll vo right or tab and you'll have a area to interact with and in there you can edit and delete stuff! For example if there is a link you want to delete sit on it then vo+shift+m and in that menu you have options to use like edit and delete and others! When your done in that one stop interacting and either vo left or shift tab back to the other table and choose another item like bookmarks menu, if you have to! And when you are done just command+option+b to go back! hth Colin I'm far too bad for Heaven! The Devil is afraid I'll take his place! Re: convincing the sighted provider of my tech that mac's the way to go?
Cheree Heppe here: No guarantees, but, with a bit of research and persistence, you should have results. Why not try E-mailing the Apple accessibility unit to find out if there are any other users nearer? Does Apple have a physical store or do customers order in and have items sent to them via the post or a shipper? If the store is near you, go there. There are people of means who like to do philanthropic pursuits. They set up trusts and things and these may be accessed through lawyers. The bank officers or churches would know. Sometimes, an account is set up and various contributions add up to achieve the goal. Network through your MP's as well. The effort will pay off. I know you have service clubs there because they assist the dog guide people. Contact and network through them. Write up a cogent proposal, maybe two or three pages, with an introduction letter and present it when need calls for that. You should make progress in obtaining a Mac that way. It may seem that many of us are born with a silver Apple joystick in our mouths, but most of us have worked outside the systems to achieve the skill and knowledge that is now possessed. If you sit and wait for the rehab people, you might as well not expect results, from my experience. Actually, I am in a location where the Washington State Services for the Blind is really supportive. This is a definite first for me. But, you should be able to obtain a Mac on your own. Be sure to explain why you require the latest hardware and software, for the advanced accessibility not on earlier models. Refreshabraille 18
All, I posted the following to the VI list, but some of you may not be on that list and in thinking about this, I believe this question would also apply to the Mac. I imagine this will be specific to the display; however, I thought I would ask in the event someone has this display. Hi all, Well I have a Refreshabraile 18 on the way (well soon as APH opens and sends it out) and I was looking over the docs that provides the key commands for using the display with an iOS device. However, I wanted to confirm something I read in the Refreshabriale manual for executing chord commands. To execute a chord command, would I press on the five-way navigation (joystick) and hold while pressing dot one or do I press and hold the spacebar (I think the auxiliary spacebar). Re: Refreshabraille 18
Hi Kawal, Thanks for the info and that does sound right as I think about it. What confused me is the Refreshabraille has a joystick, which if I read the manual correctly will perform a similar function, but then there is a mention of a spacebar or and extra spacebar. Well it might all come clear once I get the unit in my hands. Re: editing bookmarks
Thanks Colin. No wonder it wouldn't work, the initial instrction here was command shift b, not command option b. I usually make a practice of checking things out before I post them because I know how frustrating it is to try to learn something and feel like you've failed when in fact, the instruction was itself wrong. I do not mean to sound unappreciative toward Sarah; I was just feeling really crazy because neither this nor click to flash was working. I will try this again with your instructions, and I am sure they'll work. Marlaina On Jan 2, 2011, at 1:37 PM, Colin M wrote: Hi Marlaina! Very strange issue after update to SL, Please help
Hi folks, I upgraded to Snow Leopard Friday from Leopard, on my two year old Macbook. I did not do a clean install. I installed over Leopard after doing a backup with Time Machine. Everything seemed ok except I kept getting "stuck" in the dock, but that issue seems to have resolved itself after I realized the dock had changed a little with the upgrade. The main thing I'm noticing now is that quite suddenly on certain websites, I cannot enter text in a text edit field. I couldn't even enter text to search the archives here. Then suddenly, it'll be fine. One time, just turning on my wireless keyboard allowed me to type in a text edit field. This is only in Safari. No other applications are effected. I have tried the following: Turned off VO then had my sighted boyfriend use the mouse curser to get to a spot I could not type in, and he was able to enter text. When I turned VO back on, I could read what he typed and delete it and type there. After that I realized if I restart VO, I can type. But I might go to another page and not be able to. Since my boyfriend was able to enter text, I thought it must be a VO issue. I restored VO back to its factory settings and that did not solve the issue. The mouse curser is turned off. I tried unchecking "Voiceover follows keyboard focus" and vice versa, in Voiceover utility but this did nothing. I had some funky issues with VO before the upgrade, like it never kept my rate setting after waking the computer. At one point, Alex wouldn't even talk for the longest time after waking, so I turned him off before putting the computer to sleep every time. Those issues have stopped with the upgrade. Sometimes now, after the upgrade, when I restart VO, it wants to walk me through using it. I have to press V to shut it up. This isn't every time though, only after waking it. If I do it multiple times, it doesn't ask me to learn it, only the first time I might restart after starting VO. >From everyone I've talked to, it's looking like a clean install would be best. I'd like to avoid that if possible, but I'm finding nothing about any of this. Another suggestion was to create another user and see if the issues are in that user also, but I think that might be redundant now since I just restored VO and basically, that's what creating a new user would do. Is this crazy? Any suggestions? Thoughts? Help? Haha...thanks in advance... PS - Aside from this, Snow Leopard is pretty freaking cool. :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Very strange issue after update to SL, Please help
Hi there, Yes, some updates were run right after the installation was complete, but then the Macbook freaked out so I don't know for sure if they took. I don't believe there was a Safari update, but I'll go check for updates now. I remember one thing; it said it would start setup assistent right after the Macbook restarted, but then the Welcome to Voiceover thing happened, and there never was a setup assistent. In recent items, setup assistent was listed, but would not start. I don't know if that's an issue, but I keep remembering it. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. 1password for Mac is now even more accessible
1password on the Mac has just become even more accessible with VoiceOver. It worked great before, but now your individual log ins, wallet items etc. are labeled in their perspective table. The developers were kind enough to give me a heads up, following an email I sent to them months ago. The update is in beta, so if you wish to try it prior to it's official release, enable beta updates in the 1password preferences. This question just came up on the iPhone list. I thought the iPhone didn't play ogg, but someone suggested downloading an app called something like VLC video player. It's free, and it should allow you to transfer ogg files via iTunes that you will then be able to play in the app. I found it by searching for VLC in the app store, and I downloaded it, but I haven't used it yet, so I can't say for sure that it works.
