Cheree Heppe here: No guarantees, but, with a bit of research and persistence, you should have results.
Why not try E-mailing the Apple accessibility unit to find out if there are any other users nearer? Does Apple have a physical store or do customers order in and have items sent to them via the post or a shipper? If the store is near you, go there. There are people of means who like to do philanthropic pursuits. They set up trusts and things and these may be accessed through lawyers. The bank officers or churches would know. Sometimes, an account is set up and various contributions add up to achieve the goal. Network through your MP's as well. The effort will pay off. I know you have service clubs there because they assist the dog guide people. Contact and network through them. Write up a cogent proposal, maybe two or three pages, with an introduction letter and present it when need calls for that. You should make progress in obtaining a Mac that way. It may seem that many of us are born with a silver Apple joystick in our mouths, but most of us have worked outside the systems to achieve the skill and knowledge that is now possessed. If you sit and wait for the rehab people, you might as well not expect results, from my experience. Actually, I am in a location where the Washington State Services for the Blind is really supportive. This is a definite first for me. But, you should be able to obtain a Mac on your own. Be sure to explain why you require the latest hardware and software, for the advanced accessibility not on earlier models.
