Re: viphone and dropbox
Hello all, I have seen the function to put files in dropbox offline with the favorites and it works. However, with this option, it's not possible to put complete directorys offline. I have zipped some folders and then I can take it offline as zip and unpack it in file app pro. But, when I open a file there to read, it has a full screen without button to leave the text. my question:] how can I leve a file , after reading, in file app pro? Re: Editing loops in garageband 11?
Ok I am still stuck. I have selected a loop from the loop browser and pasted it to a track. How do I then select this loop in the time line? It is at the beginning of the track. And when I do VO+CMD and shift, nothing happens. I would like the ability to stretch loops, move loops and in some cases delete or insert loops. I also played some drums into a track by using one of the drum kits. I then tried to go to the edit window to edit some of the notes. The view window was empty, How can I see and edit the notes? Re: 64 bit or 32 bit Mac bootstrapped with W7
I don't think the question is whether the Mac hardware is capable of running 64 bit win7, I think I triggered the original concern by telling her that the win7 os would need to be 64 bit in order to make use of the full 8 gigs of RAM. Thus the issue is whether she has 64 bit version of Win7 installed on her bootcamp drive and if she is running 64 bit JAWS and any other applications on the Windows OS? Any online help for Garageband available?
Hi, I'm trying to figure out the ins and outs of Garageband and how to do various things in it, and also find out the limits for what works and what does not for us blind folks, however i have a problem: When i open the Garageband 11 help, the only thing that happens is that a page comes up that says "fetching latest help" and nothing more. This is probably because the Swedish help for Garageband isn't available yet, so i wonder is there an english help page available online somewhere, if so i would be very greatful if someone could please provide the link for it. Re: Macs and Rehab agenciesRe: Microsoft Office 2011 period
It wasn't easy. Towards the end of the process, wen I thought everything had ben settled, my counselor spoke to somebody in the AT industry who told him that very few blind people use Macs and that they're not particularly accessible. It took about twenty minutes on the phone to set him straight. people whose livelihood depends on the AT industry staying pretty much as it has been for the last twenty years are scared, and it seems they will do some amazing things to protect their jobs. Bible Software
Hi, Can anyone recommend some good Mac Bible software? I am aware that Mac Sword is supposed to work fairly well, but I would like to find software that includes the NIV, and it does not appear that there are any plans for an NIV module to be developed for Mac Sword. I found some information on Logos, but I could not find a demo anywhere. Also, I installed a demo of Accordance, but it looks as if it has a long way to go regarding accessibility. Re: Skype success.
What I did was. I got the earlier version of Skype for september 2009. You can get that at. www.mac.oldapps.com First, Uninstall Skype completely. Move the Skype application to the trash, delete the Skype folder from your /home/library and the relevant Skype entry from the prefferences. Then install that earlier version and logon to Skype. hen update from there. Nektarios. On Oct 27, 2010, at 5:25 PM, Joshua Loya wrote: > What version of Skype did you install? Re: braille embossers?
Hi Isaac, I'm particularly thinking of IBraille being a week solution. It hasn't been touched in years and I hate to ask clients to pour thousands of dollars into it. I'm not really happy with the index lines, but maybe that is only to do with all the power supplies I've seen fail and all the spurious paper jams I've had to troubleshoot. Maybe if I spend enough time with any of these products I'll learn every bad thing about them and mistrust them all. Everyone just gets index here because it's funded and that's it, but I think I'd go with something else for my own needs. The everest isn't bad, but I wouldn't want a basic-d. Remove FaceTime for Mac beta?
Hi folks, any idea how I may remove FaceTime Beta from my Mac? It isn't donw if you drag FaceTime application to trash. Even you're disconnected from FaceTime service FaceTime assumes it is running, so there's no chance to finally kick it off, even if it is located on trash. a bit crazy cause there's no login icon shown on login screen that could prevent FaceTime application from complete deletion. Hi all: I'm not particularly following many threads on the list at present, but the issue of skype accessibility seems to have cropped up a bit here and there. This has me curious. I am, to my knowledge, running the latest version of skype, and not having any issues with it. What accessibility issues are you noticing? Are these issues before or after you log into skype itself? Sorry if this was all brought up before, and if those of you with issues wish to write me off-list, that's fine too. Re: MP3 Books on the iPod Touch and iTunes
It doesn't have anything to do with the new version of iTunes. Make sure that you have correctly edited the tag information of the files. Re: Bible Software
Last time I checked, Mac Sword only has Protestant Canon books, but the web site mentioned that they are working on adding books from other Canon, such as those used by Roman Catholics. The web site stated that this shortcoming has nothing to do with theology. It is more of a programming issue. -Joshua On Oct 27, 2010, at 9:42 AM, Courtney Curran wrote: > Hi, > Does Macsword have the King James Catholic Bible? Or is it another Bible? I installed Skype, and when I logged in for the first time, I got an image which VO could not read. Text Edit file name

Re: Bible Software
Thanks for the tip. I'm looking for Bible software which allows me to access multiple translations and commentaries, so that I can compare what they have to say on different portions of Scripture. Re: Turning speech using vo key strokes
Hi Chenelle, do you mean on an iPhone? If so, it depends on how speech was turned off. 1. If it is just speech, then you can do a three-finger double tap and speech will come back. 2. If it is that VO is off, you'll need sighted help to go under the Settings, General then Accessibility menu and then have them turn VO back on. Once VO is on, I would go further and set your Triple-click-Home setting to toggle VO on and off then you shouldn't ever need sighted assistance again. 3. If it is like 2 above and you can't get any sighted assistance, try connecting it to your Mac and then turning off and on the accessibility options through iTunes. I'm not sure if this would be successful as I've never tried this option before. Good luck. Re: scanner vs eye pal solo
Well there was built in speech which was quite controllable. For some reason I think it was called Narrator (even though I think its called that on Windows too?) You could move sliders up and down to change pitch and speed etc. Most applications could take advantage of it, but I am not sure if there was a dedicated screen reader as I had sight in those days. I tended to use the speech to read out naughty words and laugh (well I was a teenager). I also had the Curah Speech Synthesizer for the Commodore 64. This was a cartridge that plugged into the back and cost £30 at the time. Very basic, but in 1984 my friends were totally amazed and thought it was very futuristic like something out of a science fiction movie. How things have progressed eh? RE: MP3 Books on the iPod Touch and iTunes
If the iPod touch recognizes the file(s) you are playing as an audiobook, then there is an option to do this. In the now playing screen, there is a button entitled "playback speed". By default, it is set to normal and will inform you of such. Double-tapping this button will set it to double, double-tapping it again will cut the speed to half the original, and double-tapping it yet again will return it to normal. I hope this in some way helps nudge you along the pathway of success! RE: MP3 Books on the iPod Touch and iTunes
The main difference between the way Windows handles files (media files particularly) and the way Mac OS (and other Apple products) handles files is metadata. Windows relies largely on their customers with media files to organize them via a directory structure and to play them or add them to a playlist manually. Keep in mind that this is generally speaking. Apple, on the other hand, does all of this "tech" stuff behind the scenes and organizes your files for you based on their metadata tags. In a perfect world, everyone with a Mac computer would be using iTunes for the downloading of their music, books, movies, etc. In this way, everything would work...all the time. ON the Windows side, people may have five different media players for various types of files and it's better to group things by directory. When beginning to use an Apple product, some less-than desirable things may occur. The windows user neglects the tagging of their files. Now we all know that audiobooks downloaded from Audible are already tagged brilliantly, and music from the iTunes store is likewise tagged perfectly. But, it being the twenty-first century where data dissemination is the way of life, there are...other sources of obtaining movies and music--and some of these bits of digital entertainment may lack some critical bits of metadata that make iTunes properly sort it. So, instead of making sure that all your mp3 audiobook titles are properly numbered and named before copying and pasting them over to your Rockbox-enabled device for playing, you now have to neglect the file names and pay closer attention to the tags associated with your files. If you import all your stuff directly into iTunes, then you can tag it properly with "Get Info". Chris (and others), I'm willing to bet that the majority of iPod audiobook-related issues are metadata-based, as I had similar problems when I first obtained an IOS device. It's not that hard of a switch, and, quite frankly, it is a more organized and secure system than maintaining files in structured directories--some people dislike the amount of control Apple seems to exert on their end-users and site that as one of their reasons for their continuing reluctance to switch, but it is merely Apple trying to lighten the load of excessive administrative tasks so their customers can focus on getting the important work done. I would much rather finish something important than remember to defragment my hard drive; or record a song instead of allocating my time to cleaning out the registry of old programs; do research rather than get stuck with the daunting task of maintaining a meticulously user-organized list of files and folders so that my handful of media players can use them. Anyway I apologize for the lack of brevity in this email--that's my thesis for the evening:) I hope I have provided some insight, at the very least. pondering question
I was thinking today as I was using some of my items for the first time on the mac, about a question. In windows, it always asks you if you are sure about doing anything and you have to tell it yes or no. But I find that the mac does not have a message saying are you sure about anything. For example, if you delete something, it does not say deleting x are you sure? It just does it. That is great but what if you did not really want it to or you hit something by mistake, I am sure that might happen somewhere down the road. Is there a message that one can turn on so if they make a mistake, the mac will say doing x or y, are you sure before it does it? I was wondering though, how cool it would be if there is some kind of history of computer accessibility with text, audio recordings of old speech synthesizers, program demos etc. It would be good for us to remember and for the younger generation to appreciate how far we have gone. The huge problem with rehab departments is that many of them spend way under expected percentages on actual rehab. Lots of management ends up going to Conferences in aweful places like Honolulu Hawaii. Texas as an example could only provide slates styluses and braille paper for students since the state had not spent the rest of their budget correctly. For what it's worth you can pretty much undo every action in file>edit>Undo, or cmd+Z, and deleting something in the finder only moves it to the trash folder. Hello list. I am trying to connect my kanon lide 30 scanner but nothing happens. Is anybody using this scanner with a mac? Are there any drivers available somewhere? Thanks. It seems budget is broken into admin, client services, and training. Anyway let us get back on topic. Thanks to all re: mute. I fixed with it with gestures. I just met with a rehab counsellor who insists that there's really no place for the Mac in the work world. (she also insists that since I'm doing ok with my Mac, I don't need a braille display. Guess that's what I get for trying topfunction and be a part of a new solution.:) This counsellor actually suggested I might want to move somewhere where they have the money and clientele to afford to keep up with the new technologies. She also basically said no one is going to pay me to do this kind of exploration of helping discover and working toward of improvement of alternative technologies. So, I feel more and more like it's mac-vs-pc, and conform to the old ways, or you're on your own. Sorry for venting. Thanks for reading. I want to put a blind fold over his eyes and make him use his own computer with just narrator, I am sure he would not get very far! Also, anyone who has to use word 2010 with jaws, has to by another msa or their job has too. And the mac users with voiceover, cant use it at all. So he is an easy target. Otherwise, he would have wised up a long time ago and had his own built in speech for windows but, he just does not care. I am starting to use open office and pages more and the msword does not matter that much anymore. Image Capture
Hi guys: I've gotten the drivers for my Cannon scanner. I have image capture recognizing it. It can make the scanner start, and save to doccuments. But when I try to open them with Abbyy, they're blank. Any suggestions, other than a new scanner?:) TIA and have a great evening. Here in Germany lots of sighted people likeit, but usually that gives no guaranty for VO's accessibility features.
