For what it's worth you can pretty much undo every action in file>edit>Undo, or 
cmd+Z, and deleting something in the finder only moves it to the trash folder.  
You have to empty the trash to really delete a file or files in the finder.  In 
Mail, all deleted messages are sent to the trash folder.  A dialog does come up 
when you empty the trash in the finder.
