Re: My dumb question for the day
Hello Carolyn, This is far from a dumb question. However, I have the answer for you. The problem is with GMail. If you send your message through a different SMTP server rather than the GMail one, you'll see your own messages, but when you send through the GMail SMTP server, you don't. All, is it possible in Mac Mail to have mail items sorted into conversation view, in OutLook what this does is thread each set of messages by subject, so that you can delete entire threads if you wish. Hi Neil. Re: Conversations View
I tried this technique, but decided to restore the default of showing the headers because for me it seems more efficient to exploit the preview pane. Under the navigation tab of voiceOver utility I unchecked the box labeled: "Automatically interact when using tab key". This way I am not interacting with the mailbox view, and all fields usually are announced as was the case with Outlook. In the event that VO only says "blank" I can either press up and down arrow or read the fields with "move right" (vo+arrow keys or left/right flicks via trackpad commander) to ascertain the information. To read in the preview pane I can press either trackpad touch + control or vo+j. For some reason the text is only read automatically when I use the latter even though they are purportedly equivelent, but I digress. I generally use the trackpad to quickly skim a message. This way I can quickly skip the junk at the top about reading in a web browser, etc. Also the two finger flick down will read to the end or two finger flick up reads from the top. Not sure what the keyboard equivelent is for this -- probably involves a twenty key combination . Take care. Geoff. Aborting send during spell check.
Greetings, I have "check spelling before sending" selected in the edit menu. In Outlook if I realized that I didn't address my note properly or could have phrased something differently I could abort sending during the spellcheck process. I have nmot found a way to accomplish this in AppleMail. It seems that once I press command-shift-d it's going with or without a spellcheck. Am I missing something? iphone: dropbox and file editing
Hi all, I was wondering if I could edit office documents on my iphone. I can transfer them with dropbox, but, there seems no way to write in documents that are opened from inside the dropbox. I also have file app pro but I don't know if this program allows me to edit office-documents. Also, fileapp pro has no connection with dropbox? I mean, Can I simply receive the files of my dropbox-acount in fileapp pro or works fileapp pro only with the transfers from ftp? Apple's event next wednesday
Hi all. As you might be aware, apple are holding a "Back To The Mac" event next Wednesday at 10 eastern in Cupertino, California. There are rumours of possible upgrades to the MacBook Air and also the unveiling of MAC OS X 10.7. So, what would you like to see included in next version of the OS, either generally or VoiceOver specific? Personally, I'd like to see a female voice that is as good as Alex, and to have voices in other languages even if it meant licensing them from nuance as they have done in iOS. Accessibility improvements to garage band would be welcome, as well as making iWeb accessible. The last major thing I can think of is to finally fix the issue of VO randomly resetting itself. I'm sure they'll come up with a load of things I haven't even thought of. So what do you all think? Hi, I would really love to see other voices in other languages and that they ditched those trinoids, good news, bad news, boing and other nonsence voices that belonged in the days when they didn't really know what to do with synthetic speech, because they hadn't a screen reader then. Nowadays, there is Voiceover so then other voices in other languages are more appropriate, especially since the screen reader itself is actually localized into other languages than english. Other than that, i would love to see a better translation to Swedish of Voiceover and the feature that the old Outspoken had, namely theability to know where the cursor was, by hearing a beep when you spell a word, so that if you had the word "browser" for example and you are in the middle of the word, just between the "w" and "s", you could hear "b r o w beep s e r" and if you then went one step to the right with the cursor, it'd go "b r o w s beep e r" and so on. Permanent hot spots savable on a per application basis would also be nice. And i totally agree with more accessibility of the ILife suite would be wonderful. /Krister 15 okt 2010 kl. 19.25 skrev Daniel Rowe: > Hi all. > > As you might be aware, apple are holding a "Back To The Mac" event next > Wednesday at 10 eastern in Cupertino, California. It would be great to see VO not reset itself (as mine does at least twice a day) and to have Safari and Webkit play nicely with VO in a more stable fashion. A 2. VO-A will generally work the same as read from cursor. (I think of it as read all, as a mnemonic), but that is probably from earlier versions of VoiceOver. Jon couple of points here. 1. Using the tab / shift-tab works well from shifting between the preview and the list of mail items. Re: Aborting send during spell check.
Hi Geoff! After 3 experiments sending mock emails to myself I think I might have a suggestion, going by what you said you've noticed you have something to change during your spell checking\send so vo+shift+m scroll down to spelling and grammar sub menu and in there should be hide spelling and grammar! When I did this it went back into the message and I could do any corrections, and without going back to spelling\grammar menu I command+s to save and it did and then I used command+w to close and it did without sending! hth Colin On 15 Oct 2010, at 17:59, GEOFF WAALER wrote: > Greetings, > > I have "check spelling before sending" selected in the edit menu. John, This is great -- sure beats either vo-j or control-touch. And imho vo-a kind of sucks because one must totally remove the right hand from the home keys to pull it off, unless you want to remap an option key to the right on a Macbook and confuse people when they need to use it. vm ware fusion and key mapping
Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has experience with remappling keys in virtual windows. i am running vm ware fusion using windows 7 and windoeyes version 7.2. i am going to need to remap the keys when i am in the windows environment. for example, i need to use the alt key, as well as semilated mouse keys. i don't know if the control and shift keys do the same. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Conversations View
Hi Geoff: Think I missed something here. How do you tab to the preview pane. If I don't interact with messages, I just get the row. The preview pane is in a scroll area below, and I'm using Vo-j to check it out. Sometimes, I can hit enter, and it reads. At other times, I'll hit enter and then have to interact with the scroll area to read. A real PITA for sure. If anyone understands what's happening here, feel free to chime in. My apple trainer didn't really get why it was happening. Google for a tool called sharp keys. I can attach it if you can't find that assuming that's with in the terms of the license which I think it is. (it's freeware) This allows you to remap keys with a simple 2 and from field then you apply, reboot the VM and you should be good. Sharp Keys 3 is the recent version. Re: Apple's event next wednesday
I have three enhancements that I'd like to see in voiceover with the release of 10.7. I don't expect VO to be covered in that much detail during this particular event, we'll probably read about the VO changes on the web site as the release gets closer. I'd like to see them make it possible to access the status menu icons of other applications. Dropbox is one example of an application that puts an icon in this menu that can't be accessed with voiceover. We can only access the default icons like the clock, battery status, etc. Also, I haven't yet seen a way to navigate tables within word documents or pdf files. If I understand things correctly, wasn't it very difficult to read tables in web pages until the release of 10.6? Maybe this can be done for other documents as well. Finally, I'd really like to see the possibility of setting different preferences for each application. For example, I might want a different level of verbosity in a particular application. On Oct 15, 2010, at 10:43 AM, Krister Ekstrom wrote: Hi, I would really love to see other voices in other languages and that they ditched those trinoids, good news, bad news, boing and other nonsence voices that belonged in the days when they didn't really know what to do with synthetic speech, because they hadn't a screen reader then. > > As you might be aware, apple are holding a "Back To The Mac" event next > Wednesday at 10 eastern in Cupertino, California. right and left mouse clicks in VM Fusion?
Hi, I posted this before but I don't think it made it so I'm trying again. Sorry if this is old news. I'm interested in learning how you right and left mouse click in fusion? Re: Conversations View
Hi Carolyn and list, Make certain that you are *NOT* interacting with the table of messages in a mail box. You can turn off the auto interact when tabbing feature in the VO utility in the Navigation dialog. I must have tested tab when I was interacting -- I just interacted with the table and then tab worked as you described and as I remembered. If this table is not being interacted with, tab moves you to the preview pane and in most instances causes the textt of the message to be read. HTH. Take care. Geoff. Re: mac verses pc
Hi Heather, Mike Arrigo has posted a podcast on www.blindcooltech.com explaining how to put a daisy book on to your SD card, using a mac, playable on the victor reader stream. It is very easily done. Hopefully someone out here knows which of his 13 mac podcasts this is in, but he demonstrates it well so it is possible. One thing less, necessary on the windows desktop side. - Original Message - From: heather kd5cbl To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, October 11, 2010 3:31 AM Subject: mac verses pc I have taken to using both computers right now. I have a mac laptop and a windows desktop. Grant it I use my windows desktop more but as I learn voiceover, I hope to move between both systems equally. It is not about which is better for it is a matter of perspective of the individual. I like jaws for what it does, making my windows pc blind friendly. But, I cant access jaws in say a public library, the computer lab at school or my sighted cousin's house but I can access a mac in all those locations using voiceover. Provided there computer is not ten years old! But I like my windows pc for the use of Kurzweil1000, Duxbury which I use with my braille printer and the victor stream to read books. I hope that in the future, kurzweil1000 will have a mac equivalent like kurzweil 3000. Now that I am familiar with the mac, I can walk in a library, school or any other public places in get on a mac to do what I need to do without sighted help. I know someone might put forth system access to go for windows users? Just one problem, if that computer is not connected to the internet, how can you access system access? If you are at a log in screen, how would you know with out speech to tell you? I am not defending one over the other, it is a matter of what one's needs are at the time. I believe one should be familiar with both, not that they need to have both! Heather -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Apple's event next wednesday
Hello all, I agree that tables isn't handled very well in pages. Also numbers, is accessible but it's missing some navigation-features for everyone like you have in ms excel. Kenotes isn't very accessible at this moment... Safari is very bad at this moment : braille in formfields, voiceover is crashing when you want to give feedback on itunes :( and... busy busy busy. There are also other sites that voiceover can't access because it's restarting constantly. Also, when you have parts of text in tables, you cant jump to this parts with (shift)vo+command+n like you can do on webpages. So, it's my experience that you need to explore the table cel by cel and this can be very frustrated. I agree also that it would be nice if you can make different configs for different programs but I don't think they will do that. There should be more config-options for the braille-display: specify the representations of different controls in the os like links, checkboxes, comboboxes, radio buttons... Also, the information on the brailledisplay should be independent of the speech. It's not always interesting e.g. to have tooltips on the brailledisplay and the brailledisplay should not show dots 7 and 8 below a text because it's in the voiceover-cursor. As I understand well, everything on a brailledisplay is in the vo-cursor. If so, it doesn't make any sence to underline. On windows, the dots 7 and 8 are also used to show e.g. italic, bold, underline in programs but here, this isn't possible. I agree that it's not the main task of Apple to make tird party applications accessible but, it would be nice if they should make a user-friendly environment to adjust the representation of voiceover in programs that aren't accessible out of the box. e.g , firefox is a very good browser but, the developers aren't willing to make it accessible with voiceover. So, we have only 1 fully supported webbrowser and, is something works bad with that browser, like no, we have no alternative. The developers of opera will help but , I think it goes slow. It's normal that programs have bugs, for shore in the beginning but, they should make a kind of interface so that we can make a complete and efficient bugreport of something in voiceover. And ..., they have implemented a drag and drop function with the keyboard in 10.6 but, it seems not to work at all. I mean, it's not doing the same for us as for sighted users. About other voices in osx: it would be nice to have the same voices pre-installed like in ios4 but, it's not a priority for me. I can't understand the way Apple is taking care about their software: Since itunes version 10, workflows aren't working anymore. We have waited several weeks for itunes 10.0.1 and the workflow problems aren't still fixed. At the moment. No, it's fixed for me with the howto's on the internet but the debug-jobs are something for Apple, not for the customers. That's my opinion. And also in this case: this problem belong to everyone , not only vo-users. So, this is the most important of my frustrations :) best regards, William Windels Op 15-okt-2010, om 22:53 heeft Justin Ekis het volgende geschreven: > I have three enhancements that I'd like to see in voiceover with the release > of 10.7. Most of the safari problems you listed are corrected by using webkit. Not the navigation so much but the voice crashing and other slowness issues. Re: Apple's event next wednesday
Apple I don't think is blocking development of other products other than since they offer their features for free who would want to play in that market. The ones who need to worry are the JFW Window Eyes bunch who charge a lot for their tools. Look at what the IPhone did to CF, Apple products may do something similar in the PC space. Of course FS has some blind organizations paid off and is overly represented in government so it's hard to break new products in to the space but over time I think our community will vote with our dollars and these companies will have a difficult time. At least in their screenreader product lines. Especially as the PC shows less and less advantage. reripping cds with iTunes 10 issues
Hi all: Due to the issues with iTunes not organizing all of my music properly from being ripped in Windows. I've taken on the task of reripping the cds. I think I've lost my mind. I've set iTunes to rip and eject a CD upon insertion. I'm ripping in AAC iTunes+ format 256KBS stario. The files are smaller than mP3 files, at least according to my esearch. I have error checking checked, import data from the Internet, etc. I'm using a 15inch Macbook Pro i7 processor, 2.8GHC processor, 8GB ROM, 500GB hard drive. I'm having a ouple of weird issues. First, it is taking forever to rip 1 CD. About 5-10 minutes per CD. Second issue is when I remove the CD, and insert the next one, I'll ask where do I want to import it to, and iTunes wants me to manually choose destination, and click the import button. I have to eject the CD, and insert it again for iTunes to rip. Any suggestions? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: growler helper app?
hi Colin, All the notifications are enabled when i click the configure button when adium is selected. I don't quite understand the other thing, do you mean that I should change the thing that says use default starting position to use custom starting position? because in skype it is set to default starting position and it still works. thanks a lot and any help is appreciated, Rafaela El 15/10/2010, a las 18:05, Colin M escribió: > Hi Rafaela! and Eric! > I do not know if this is of help, but under growl settings the applications > tab there is an option to set custom start button! > And also Rafaela in that menu you might look at if adium notifications are > set ok! > Hope this helps :] > Colin > On 15 Oct 2010, at 21:30, Rafaela Freundt wrote: > >> I know, but it just doesn't make sense. it should work, it is configured to >> display messages as speech. >> El 14/10/2010, a las 20:35, Eric Oyen escribió: >> >>> I had the same problem.
