RE: Snow Leopard dvd

2010-06-01 Thread Bryan Smart
Chris,

I didn't know that you were using the install DVD that came with a computer.

The OS X install DVDs that you get with a Mac will only install OS X on that
specific model of Mac. If you want the full version, that can install on any
Mac, you must go out and buy the retail version of OS X. That's why the disk
from your Mini didn't work, but your retail disk does work.

Hi all,

I put Leopard back on the laptop, and downloaded the firmware update as well as
the upgrade to 10.5.8. I then tried the Snow leopard disc from my Mini, but I
received the same message. So I went out and got the retail Snow Leopard disc,
and it installed with no issue. The laptop is now working very well with one
weird exception. Whenever I press shift-vo-space to do a mouse click, it brings
up the menu bar. It is quite odd. Anyway, thanks for the help on the Snow
Leopard issue. It feels much better to have it on the laptop. Since I primarily
use quick nav, not having it was quite annoying. I think the differences
between Leopard Voiceover and Snow Voiceover are extraordinary.

Friendly,
Chris

Hi Courtney,

I have a Macbook, they run about $1000 but you can get a refurbished one from
Apple.com for about $849. That's where I purchased my Macbook from. The Pro has
less disc space with 160GB, the Macbook the one I currently own has 250GB. I'm

RE: A couple Macbook questions, out of curiosity

2010-06-01 Thread Cameron
Hi. The mac book is the cheapest. The current imcarnation does not have a
firewire port or an sd card slot. It has an intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz
processor and 2 gigs of ram. it has a plastic unibody case. it goes for
$999 US.

The mac book pro has an aluminum unibody case and has TI firewire as well as
an sd card slot. you can get them with Intel core 2 duo processors, or,
I6/I7 processors, depending on how much you want to spend. they start with
4 gigs of ram on the less expensive models. The mac book pro starts at
$1199 US. I have the mac book pro 15 inch intel I5 model and it is an
amazing machine!

The mac book air is the lightest and the thinnest of the lot and has a solid
state hard drive. They come with Intel core 2 duo processors and 2 gigs of
ram. It lacks a cd/dvd combo drive. It is also the lightest. The air
starts at $1499 US.

There are other differences, but, that gives you a rough idea of the
differences between the three lines of mac books.

Check out the apple site to compare models further.

Cameron.

RE: A couple Macbook questions, out of curiosity

2010-06-01 Thread Cameron
Hi. also, the current mac book has a 250 gig 5400 rpm hard drive. The air
has either a 128 gb solid state drive, or, a 128 gig 4800 rpm hard drive.

The basic pro model comes with a 160gb 5400 rpm hard drive. From there, you
can go for 250, 320, 500 gb drives etc.

Also, keep in mind that it is easy to swap out the hard drive so if you want
a larger drive in future, or, a 7200 rpm hard drive, it's easy to drop one
in. but, if you do it yourself, you would void your warranty and your apple
care extended plan if you had one.

Cameron.

What's the difference between a Macbook, a Macbook Pro, and a Macbook Air.
And which one's the cheapest out of the three models?

RE: A couple Macbook questions, out of curiosity

2010-06-01 Thread Cameron
Hi. yeah, if you don't need firewire, then the $999 mac book is the way to
go. However, I will say that the case on the mac book pro is much more
durable and scratch resistant etc. so, if you're going to be using it in
some rough and tumble environments, then I'd go with the pro. It would be
worth the extra money.

I'll probably end up getting a regular Macbook in a few months (probably
sooner knowing me). I absolutely need the Cd/dvd drive, so the Air's
probably out. Thanks for all your help.

Re: A DVD Remaster Question

2010-06-01 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Courtney,

I just purchased DVD Remaster. If you want AC3 files of your audio select
extract. If not, select export and set the output to wav. There is also an
output for Ipod or Iphone.
I believe as Annie said earlier, DVD Remaster comes with Fair Mount which
breaks copy protection on encrypted DVDs. I am pretty sure you can extract
store bought DVDs without a problem if you just want the audio. I think Fair
Mount is more for burning them, but I could be wrong. I hope I've helped, have
a great day.

Audible content on Iphone

2010-06-01 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi all,

I'm contemplating purchasing an Iphone 3GS as my Nokia keeps freezing up. I'm
thinking of getting the 32 gig one. Can you play audible content on it? ALso,
if you're listening to a song and you receive a phone call what happens? I mean
does the music stop and the phone ring? I really want an Iphone and an Ipod
Touch 3rd generation. I thought the Iphone would solve both of these dilemmas,
so I could have both an Iphone and Ipod. Any thoughts? Any experience with
Iphone and music? Thanks again for all your help.

Musically,
Allison

Firewire is a transfer protocol developed by Apple. It is mainly used for

another way you can save money is if you don't plan to burn dvd's you
can get a combo drive instead of a super drive. The combo drive can
play cd's and dvd's but only burn cd's. the super drive can burn
both. didn't see that mentioned so thought would throw it in. wish i
had gotten a bigger hard drive on mine. they fill up so fast. lol

Hi,
What's the difference between a Macbook, a Macbook Pro, and a
Macbook Air.

And which one's the cheapest out of the three models?
Thanks,
Courtney

RE: A couple Macbook questions, out of curiosity

2010-06-01 Thread Cameron
Hi. with the mac book and the mac book pro, you get the standard 8x8
superdrive. You can read and write cdrs, cdrws, single layer and dula layer
dvds, dvd ram discs, etc.

With the air, you can buy an external superdrive.

Cameron.

Hi. you can buy a replacement hard drive and install it quite easily.
Depending on the speed and capacity of the drive, you could get one for less

 Hi,
What's the difference between a Macbook, a Macbook Pro, and a Macbook Air.
And which one's the cheapest out of the three models?

thanks for that. you know i haven't even checked. I know I've had
this one for two years. I'd like to be able to run fusion on it which
would mean a bigger harddrive and more ram; so i keep putting off the
hard drive hoping for a windfall that would let me replace this one.
thanks again, Max

RE: A couple Macbook questions, out of curiosity

2010-06-01 Thread Cameron
Hi. Yeah, a larger hard drive and two gb of ram would do it. although I'd
shoot for four gb if you want to run a virtual box and a screen reader.

thanks for that. you know i haven't even checked. I know I've had
this one for two years. I'd like to be able to run fusion on it which
would mean a bigger harddrive and more ram; so i keep putting off the
hard drive hoping for a windfall that would let me replace this one.
thanks again, Max

And which one's the cheapest out of the three models?

Re: Audible content on Iphone

2010-06-01 Thread Cara Quinn
  Hi Allison;

Yes, you can most definitely listen to Audible content on the iPhone.

As for music playback, it does a quick little fade when the phone rings and
then can be easily resumed when you finish the call.

When not in the iPod app itself, you can do a two-finger double tap to start
or stop the music at any time.

Yes, essentially, you have all of the functionality of an iPod and a whole lot
more, with the iPhone. It's amazing!… :)

Hope this helps and please do feel free to ask any further questions you may
have.

Smiles,

CQ :)

Changing artist properties of an MP3 File

2010-06-01 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
Is there any way to change the artist and title properties of an Mp3 file
outside of Itunes? I have some tracks that don't have tags filled in for the
artist, and I want to fix it, but not in Itunes.
Thanks,
Courtney

not, we just need to find a bulk soemthing like mp3tag.

2010-06-01 Thread Sarah Alawami
My macbook pro has 250 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of ram and a 2.3 ghz processer.
it ran me about 1400 new.The difference is the macbook air runs on a flash
drive of about 100 gigs or so and has no cd drive. think of it like a netbook.
The pro has more features like firewire and mini dvi adapter and card reader.

Hi. well, keep in mind that installing a drive yourself would void any
remaining apple care coverage.

But, installing a new drive and dropping in more ran should not be expensive
if you source your components well.

accessing mail that was placed in junk folder by mail filter

2010-06-01 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
Is there any way to access mail that was placed in the junk folder by a mail
filter. I think something important might be in there. Can I do this through
Apple Mail, or do I have to perform the tedious task of going to the server and
looking (smiley).

Re: Setting up hotkeys in Skype

2010-06-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Actually you can definitely set up Skype with hot keys, however you're right
in that you can't set up a key for specifically answering a call.

YOu go about this in System Preferences though, and not through Skype,
which is probably why you missed it. :) I would have too, so no worries! lol!

1 go into System Preferences and then into the Keyboard page.

2 choose the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.

3 YOu'll see two tables; in the first one, select 'Application Shortcuts' and
then tab to the 'Add an application shortcut' button.

4 YOu'll now be in a dialogue where you can choose the application you'd like
to create the shortcut for, type in the menu option you'd like the shortcut to
apply to, and type in the shortcut itself.

5 NOTE: as mentioned above, you'll need to type in the menu option EXACTLY as
it appears in the application. I.E. in Skype, if you'd like to create a
shortcut to hang up a call, you'd type in Hang Up (note the capitals) as Hang
UP is the option in the Call menu.

Since there's no menu option to answer a call, there's really no way I know of
to set a keyboard shortcut for one. :)

Hope this helps and do have a lovely evening!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

2 Questions from Mark Regarding The Mac Mail Client in Snow Leopard

2010-06-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

To my surprise, I find that I much prefer to use the Mac Mail Client to
Outlook, these days for a host of reasons.

1.
Currently, I use the threaded message view to read all mail. One reason I
find this extremely convenient is because when I press the enter key on the
message header as it appears in the messages list box, it opens all of the
thread's messages, each post in a separate window. So, after reading each
post, all I need do is press Command+W to close the window currently in
focus.

Lets assume that the Mac Mail client has opened 10 windows in a thread, each
containing one post in the thread.  Now, I've read three of the messages;
consequently, I have had to press Command+W 3 times to close three windows,
right? At this point, I decide that I no longer wish to read the remaining
opened 7 windows.
Question:
Is there a keyboard shortcut that will let me close all of the remaining
opened windows at once?

2.
A long time ago, for some reason which I cannot remember, I removed the
preview pane in the message list. Consequently, I cannot use the J command
to quickly view a message until I restore this view. To do this, I must,
somehow, move the horizontal splitter up. Aside from getting sighted
assistance, is there a way I can drag the splitter to a new position or is
there a menu selection that will restore the original view?

Thank you.

Mark

Hi. H. I don't know if you can bring a drive you buy from another
retailer into an apple store and have them do the install. You could call
them and ask, but I somehow doubt it.

Thinking of creating a Mac OX 10.6 tutorial, any suggestions?

2010-06-01 Thread Alfredo
I am currently just going to college, employment is pretty bad, so I
am thinking of creating a tutorial that will guide you step by step,
on how to do routine and more complicated task with voice over in the
mac. For example, several posters have had teh question on how to get
the time on their computer, as well as the percentage amount left on
their battery life. I would put this like th efollowing.
Step 1 Do this
Step 2 Do this
Step 3 Do this
etc

You guys get the picture right, in betweent he steps I would
sometimes, but not always, so as too not bore the user out, where they
are or what they are doing or any other use ful info. I would like to
do several sections of the OS operating system, including, but not
limited to:
File syste, whic includes creating and deleting as well as renaming
and moving folders, amond other navigation tasks.
Safari browser, how to use book marks, navigate to links, tables,
access websites, etc.
Itunes, how to create playlist, burn disk, place music and videos to
be sync to Ipod.
SuperDuper, I heard this software lets you boot the system froma USB
drive, and I think for backup purposes, this is essential, and all
should be aware, and be guided on how to use the program.
TextEdit, will also be covered.
OS settings, such as logging into a wireless routers, setting
preferences, such as keyboard,a nd voice over among other will be
showed.
Any software suggestions will be considered.
I will take 2 motnhs to complete this project, it will start in about
3 weeks, and will dedictae about 4 hours per day, during these 2
months. The structure of the book will go by basic guidance, or
tutoring, like how to navigate the file system, then it will go into
programs. I will use Mac OS 10.6 latest patch and will implement,
gestures navigation as well as keyboard only nanigation. It will be
like, someone ask a question, such as,
How to I see the time?
Step 1
step 3
  * you should be hrer/you are doing this, etc.
step 3, you are there.

Any and all suggestions will be welcome. I am doing this becuase I
have nothing to do a and somebody in the forums stated that a walk
through like tutorial would have been great to supplement the apple
voice over guide

Re: accessing mail that was placed in junk folder by mail filter

2010-06-01 Thread Cara Quinn
  Hi Courtney;

If you're talking about the filter in Mail itself, yes, you can access your
junk mailbox.

One very reliable way to get there is to go to your Mailboxes menu in the
menu bar and choose 'Go to.' This will bring up another menu of your current
mailboxes. Press enter on Junk and voila! you're there! HOpe this helps and do
have a lovely evening!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi. you can buy a replacement hard drive and install it quite
 easily.
Depending on the speed and capacity of the drive, you could get one
 for less

for not getting the super drive. I'm sure someone on list here can
tell you. Just wish I had had the money to get a larger hard drive.
only real regret. well good luck, max
