a.. labeling buttons, unknowns, and blank areas? [1 Update]
Topic: labeling buttons, unknowns, and blank areas?
Annie Skov Nielsen Apr 03 11:45PM +0200 ^

Hi Hank.

To make lables, when you have something you want to label press
vo+shift+7 and write the text, you must of course have the voiceOver
cursor placed on the button, unknown or what you want to label. It is
a great feature, I found out how to do it in this week, because I
looked for something else.

I can tell you that it is easy to export your labels. If you open
voiceover, and go to export, when you can save them, remember to
choose labels in the menu in the middle.

You get a file called voiceover labels or what you choose to name it.

I have not tried to import labels yet, but I guess it is as simple as
export labels.

Have a nice day.
Annie.

Re: Selecting text and copying it to the clipboard from the internet in Safari

2010-04-05 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Kim,

There's no simple answer to this question. So much depends on the website.

If what you want to copy is spoken by VO in one go, you can use the "Save last
spoken phrase to clipboard" command (VO-Shift-C). Sometimes it doesn't work the
first time you try, but making VO repeat itself often does the trick.

Another method is to press VO-Return at the beginning and end of the text to be
selected.

Then there is the standard way of selecting text using the shift key and arrow
keys.

I hope one of these methods will solve your problem.

Cheers,

Anne

sometimes the shift and arrow keys don't work to copy text. I don't know why
but I did not know about the return thing. cool. I'll have to try that if vo

Hi there,

The interface is a little misleading. How I do this, and it may be a clumsy
way, is to simply place the VO cursor on the text which tells you to either
drag files, or click here. Once there, press vo-shift-command-space to click
the mouse, and a file open dialog should appear.

Re: web browsers

2010-04-05 Thread James & Nash
Hi chad,

No, FireFox does not work on Mac OS X as yet with VO. There are alternatives,
you could try Opera for example it is apparently quite accessible. However,
other alternatives such as Shiira, are based on the same web engine as Safari,
so you are likely to have the same problem with Shiira as with Safari.

Hope this helps

Merging data in Pages

2010-04-05 Thread James & Nash
Hi everyone,

Does anyone on the list have any experience merging data in Pages 09 please? I
have read all the help files, and followed the instructions, but I cannot seem
to make it work. I have also searched the Apple site etc for info but nothing
seems to be quite right. I am also using an expired demo of IWork, could this
be the reason for my problems? Finally, how do I tell Pages to use a particular
contact in my Address Book please? For an Apple product, IWork is not very
intuitive - at least not to me. My brain is going pear shaped instead of
staying Apple-shaped.

Thanks

Re: a question ablout amadeus pro

2010-04-05 Thread Esther

Hi Annie,

You've had a few answers about routing the your mouse cursor to your
VoiceOver Cursor (VO-Command-F5) and clicking with VO-Shift-Space (or
you can do a physical click with trackpad, mouse, or by pressing the
"5" key on a numeric keypad with Numpad Commander activated). I don't
know whether you've listened to this, but Dane did a podcast about
using Amadeus Pro for batch processing last year for Blind Cool Tech
around the end of May. There was also a more recent BCT podcast by
another list member about using Amadeus Pro for general recording
(digitizing records) back in January.

Hello Chad:
You probably tried this already but you can simulate a mouse click
with VO + Shift + spacebar. If you do not have mouse tracking on, you
will have to do a VO + Command + F5 to get the cursor before doing the
mouse click.
I hope this helps.

getting out of find mode; how

2010-04-05 Thread Ray Foret jr
Hi,

When I"m browsing and I use VO+f to find something on the screen, then I want
to exit find mode without clicking on anything, how do I do that? If I press
tab or shift+tab I'm pulled way away from the spot on the page where I last
found the item I was looking for.

For example, if I'm searching the want adds paper for a washer, and I use VO+f
to find the word "washer" (without the quotes) I can easily find occurrences of
the word washer. What I need to do then is exit finder without clicking on any
links. The escape key doesn't do it for me. Thanks.

One way that I discovered, rather clunky though, is when you have
reached the desired location, is to issue a VO+F again and then hit
escape.

I hope this is what you meant to do.

Re: Hi have a networking question

2010-04-05 Thread Chris Blouch
It should all work the same as a wired network. You might have an easier
time sharing your Mac drive and mounting it on the PC rather than the
other way around, but it doesn't matter. The Mac can also mount SMB
(Windows File Sharing protocol) network drives just fine. Between macs
iTunes can actually share your iTunes library and listen to it on
another machine on the same network. I believe at least Windows iTunes
can listen to Mac iTunes shares but I haven't tried it the other way
around.

Re: syrinx issue

2010-04-05 Thread E.J. Zufelt
Good afternoon,

I have had this problem in the past. Try the following steps with Syrinx
closed.

1. Go to Finder.

2. Go to the Applications folder (Cmd + Shift + A).

3. Go to the Utilities folder

4. Open the Keychain App.

5. Find the Syrinx keychain item and bring up the context menu (VO + Shift + M)

RE: iPad bluetooth keyboard

The apple blue tooth keyboard does not have a number pad. I fell into that
one when I went to by one.

I believe the apple wireless keyboard has a touch pad. As the touchpad
commander works much like the iPhone screen, I don't think it would be a
leap to have it work similarly when connected to the iPad.

If this isn't how it works initially, I am sure it will in short order.

Having the link rotor dialogue open as it does on the mac might also be
simple, as it's essencially the same thing with the keyboard interface vs a
touch interface.

A trend toward the iPhone os (iPad os being the same thing) coming to
resemble the VO interface on the Mac is probably unavoidable as they take on
more and more computer functions.

We shall see in the coming weeks no doubt.

into the keyboard shortcut set of commands for the iPad, given the support
of both the dockable keyboard and the BT keyboard.

of gesture with flicks, use of rotor and entry of text with the virtual
keyboard is fairly well integrated. On the current generation Macs, we work
largely with keyboard shortcuts and the newest machines incorporate some of
the gestures used on the iPhone and iPod Touch. My speculation was that
Apple might introduce VO extensions for the iPad that function like the
keyboard shortcuts to make it easier to work from the keyboard alone for
simple functions, rather than have you type on your keyboard, put this down
to pick up your iPad, perform a few touch screen gestures and then put the
iPad down again to return to your keyboard.

navigate by links headings, etc. Some of the limitations in the range of
navigation options on web pages on the iPhone and iPod Touch resemble the
restrictions in VO performance in its first release under Tiger. Since
Chris was wondering about support for the VO keyboard shortcuts that we use
under the full Mac system, and since I don't believe he uses either an
iPhone or iPod Touch, I was trying to address his questions about the
likelihood for a hybrid version of the VO on an iPad that uses some of the
keyboard shortcuts on the regular Mac keyboards, just as the iPhone and iPod
Touch gestures have made their way into the expanded usage of Mac computers
under recent OS and model updates.

So what is to stop someone taking a mac mini and put windows on it as a
small windows box?

I've thought that the mini would make a great media machine for my media

I would only need a tv tuner card to connect to my TV / screen and it would
be great, although my 5.1 sound system would probably lack a bit if I can't
connect it on a mini.

I love my iPad. I have the 32 gig WiFi model, thought about 3G, but decided I

So far my favorite iPad apps are iBooks, and the iPad versions of keynote,

Hi,

Interacting with the text before using VO-F is not necessary, actually. What is
important to note, though, is after finding the text you want you may have to
stop interacting, as Vo seems to automatically interact with the result you are

RE: Hi have a networking question

2010-04-05 Thread Simon Fogarty
If your going from the mac machine to the windows machine then try using the
terminal. I think from memory its command K,
 Then use
SMB at the start of your command
So it would be something like

Smb:\\ip-address, or domain name.com.

If this is on your personal network then use the IP address and if you
have a shared drive or folder on your windows machine, you should either get
it or get a username / password if you have one on the file / folder share.

Macs can read the windows folder structure and write to it if it's a fat32
file structure.
If the windows machine uses an ntfs file structure then the mac will read
but not write to it.

A windows machine will have a very very difficult job of reading the mac
folder structure.

Subject: Re: iPad Question

I love my iPad. I have the 32 gig WiFi model, thought about 3G, but decided
I didn't really need it because I have the iPhone 3gs. All iPads come with
VO bult in, as was previously noted.

So far my favorite iPad apps are iBooks, and the iPad versions of keynote,
pages, and numbers. The iPad also has a significantly better battery life
than my iPhone.

What do you think of the iPad?

Does the 16GB version work with VO, too, or is it limmited, like the iPhone
to 32GB and 64GB?

Re: getting out of find mode; how

2010-04-05 Thread Olivia Norman
Interesting!
I have found interacting with the text to be the way to get find to work
correctly! Not sure why this is.
