Re: Appending text to clipboard
OK, I don't think my question is understood. I have Simple Notes and Text Expander on my phone and computer and understand there uses. What I want is the ability to copy some text to the clipboard on one area of the screen and move somewhere else and add to the previously copied text, then I want to paste it. Example: I copied your name from a mail message and your birthday from address book. Right now if your name was copied and then I copied your birthday the name would no longer be on the clipboard hinge the append to clipboard feature. I want to be able to copy from more than one place and just keep adding to the copied text and be able to paste all copied items at once. Hi A bit inaccurate. FineReader can be configured to open saved documents with a specific application, I have mine set to open them with Textedit. Also, it is possible to link VueScan and FineReader together so that you need not scan then save then open then save again. for aspiring programmers
Just thought this might help some who want to visualise the euclidian side of maths, vectors, deferentials, point constraints, etc. Check the eternal golden braid on google for a glimpse at the intelligence and facilitating virtue of the book. When i was sighted, my reference book for abstract but defining graphics was a book called maeda media. He taught the importance of the mathematics that underly every shape, creation, physically possible and beyond, and how it lies within the symmetry of the mind's receptacle. They inspire many quizzes just by looking at them, like a lifeform never seen yet completely present in our instinct. Now that i have lost my eyesight, i see better the math which consolidates these visuals, and makes them true works of poetry. ANd they do not require a receptacle other than the connections we make from understanding each presented empirical aspect of the book. It's a fine read, and its also probably one of the most important points of transfer in the logic of space and time. It's an acknowledgement that visually impaired individuals can make impossible abstractions of the most complicated subjects and understand, share or educate, whichever appropriate for varying circumstances, of the sighted who take these forms, produced and commercially packed, for granted. I have to provide my imaginary space with these shortcuts to make the chromatic and yet deeply black field of vision i have a garden of purity in the haptic, audiovisive world i now live in. Re: Appending text to clipboard
Hi, I did understand your question, which is why I started out by saying that QuickSilver can support this feature (specifically for clipboard use, either through using its clipboard history or more directly through a plug in), but that this program isn't currently an option for the reasons Yvonne detailed about the difficulty of installing for Snow Leopard with VoiceOver. What I was suggesting is that you use the JustNotes window on your Mac effectively in place of the clipboard. You don't have to worry about opening/closing or saving and quitting the way your would if you pasted into a TextEdit window, for instance. Best solution I could come up with, because I think that a lot of the clipboard managing programs aren't accessible. There's been a more extensive discussion of Simplenote and JustNotes on the mac-access list recently in connection with note usage. I take it you aren't subscribed there currently? I'll note that Simplenote and TextExpander each have one unlabeled button that I've found -- in both cases this is the one announced as "button" in the lower left corner of the screeen. In the case of TextExpander, this is the "Settings" button. In the case of Simplenote, on the screen with the full view of your note, this is the button to send the note as a mail message. Most clipboard apps are inaccessible because they run with icons in the status menu bar that VoiceOver can't navigate to. While that's not guaranteed to make the application inaccessible on your Mac, and you can sometimes AppleScript shortcuts to get to the functions, the apps generally don't provide this -- especially if they're aimed at fancier copies and pastes of images. Although JustNotes does use the status menu bar, you can just get to the window by using Window chooser menu under the finder window to look for "untitled" or switch windows. Sorry not to have a better solution. I was just trying to find the best solution within the known limitations. Cheers, Esther VaShaun Jones wrote: OK, I don't think my question is understood. QuickSilver, the application that Yvonne described in her blog at: http://yvonnezed.posterous.com/ supports this capability, but as I believe she mentioned in her posts, you may not be able to get all of this working in Snow Leopard. What I've been using instead of the clipboard with some of the same functionality that you want is a free software application called JustNotes (in its beta release) that synchronizes notes with an iPhone/iPod Touch app called Simplenote ($1.99). This also automatically puts the notes up on my iPod Touch within the Simplenote app, and lets me access current, updated versions of the notes through the free Simplenote secure web interface. Re: accessible dvd converter?
I'm catching up on some old mail and didn't see a reply to this. While you could output your DVD video via the Apple NTSC/S-Video adaptor, usually that signal includes an encoding called macrovision which spoils the recording to prevent piracy. I believe some programs out there allow you to turn off Macrovision protection which then means you could hit record on your VCR and play on your video and make a perfectly good copy. Legality of doing so is questionable. CB Tiffany D wrote: While we're on the subject of converting, is there a software package that will let me record my dvds onto vhs? As a follow up, that particular feature of QS does work in snow leopard. Admittedly, it's not quite what you want. It doesn't append to one clipboard, what it does if keep a history of your clipboard. So in other words, you tell it how many entries to keep, and every time you do a cut or copy it adds to your history. So if you wanted to paste, say, 3 or 4 bits you'd just clipped, you couldn't just hit paste, you'd have to go back through the clipboard history pasting each one. The only place I've ever really seen that append to existing clipboard entry feature is in text editors. Vim and emacs can both do it, not sure about any others but those definitely, but that's restricted to text files in that editor, and using that editors features. I think the real problem is that, well, on a system clipboard, not everything you cut/copy is text. It could be a file or a URL or an image or text. Appending all those things together in one lump somewhere and pasting it sounds like something that, as a programmer, would give *me* a headache, . -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Copying files to a shared folder?
I don't think I ever saw an answer to this one. Were the files you copied applications by chance? Apps under the hood are really whole directory tree bundles which may have dozens or hundreds of files. So 48 apps could have turned into thousands of files to copy. Just a thought. CB Chris Hofstader wrote: Hi, I'm moving off of my old MacBook 13 and onto my new MacBook Pro 13. I shared the Documents folder on the new computer, went over to the old one, went into its Documents folder, did a select all and copy and it said 48 items copied. I went to the shared folder in Finder from the new computer while on the older one. I did a "paste" and it said something about pasting 48 items which sounded good to me. I was asked if I wanted to replace items and I said yes to replace all. Then, still on the older machine, I get a dialogue that says "Copying" and it says it is copying more than 3000 files to the Documents folder on the new computer. What did I do wrong? Where did the 48 files that I copied go? I think this is the first task I've needed where Windows seems easier, not easier enough to go back, just a bit easier in one way. cdh -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Appending text to clipboard
An alternative to justnotes for something like this could be a free app called notational velocity. That's another app where you don't have to worry about saving and closing windows and such, and has the added advantage of a hotkey to jump to it. copy, hotkey, copy, hotkey, go to where you want to paste it, hotkey, select all, paste. Something like that, anyway. Another alternative *might* and this is off the top of my head, *might* be a service in os x. If you could write an applescript to append to the frontmost document in textedit, you could possibly highlight the text, hit a hotkey, and provided you had an open document in textedit, send it there. Again, not ideal, but something to build on. In fact, I remember I wrote a script once that appended text to a text file in a certain directory with the name of the file being the date. In other words, you could keep a daily log of text clippings. It was triggered with Quicksilver back then, admittedly, but with OSX's services feature, I'm pretty sure you could duplicate it. You'd have to open the file to get at the text you'd clipped, but it could be done. Probably even automated with another hotkey, if the filename was consistent enough. Hmm, I might actually have to write that. Bad idea, getting a programmer to think outloud in email like this, . Sorry this ended up a bit offtopic, but I'll post it anyway. It might give you, or others, some ideas, if I don't write the script myself first. One of the reasons I haven't mided a break from Quicksilver is that, thanks to Snow Leopard, there's a huge amount that can be done with services alone. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Have you played with Accessibility Verifier? Not sure how it works with Java apps but for others it will scan the currently displayed UI for missing labels and the like so you can catch stuff without having to navigate through every element by hand. Assuming you have Xcode installed you can find it under /Developer/Applications/Utilities/Accessibility Tools. Hope that helps. Re: Appending text to clipboard
Ok, this was bugging me, so I think I've come up with a solution that does what you want. It relies on you having snow leopard and it's an automator service. Go into automator and create a new service. Go to the actions/ddescription split view and interact with it. Go to the actions library split view and interact with that. Go to the actions table, make sure the keyboard focus is there, and start typing run. The action you're looking for is run shell script. Once you find it in the table, hit enter on it. Stop interacting with all that stuff and vo-left to get to the workflow. Interact with it and find the run shell script action. Interact with that and hit vo-right until you get to the text area that says cat. Delete everything in there and paste the following script in its place cat >/tmp/clipboard pbpaste|cat - /tmp/clipboard|pbcopy Save the workflow as something like, "append to clipboard" If you want to, go into keyboard preferences and give it a shortcut, try to make it pretty obscure since it'll be available anywhere in OS X. Anyway, highlight your text, and either hit the shortcut or vo-shift-m to bring up the context menu, go into services, and find your service name. and activate it. That should append whatever you've selected to whatever's already on the clipboard. You can do this as many times as you like. To start again, just use a normal copy. I'll be kind of interested to see how this works for you, actually. I don't have much use for it myself, and I've only tested it quickly, so don't rely on it to launch the space shuttle or anything, but it *should* work. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. It's an AppleScript and if you install in your ~/Library/Scripts directory and activate the AppleScript menu you will then have this tool in every application. If you use spark you can assign it a hotkey to make it's use even faster. Usage When run clipme will create a file called -clipmelog.txt in your Documents directory. Note that the name starts with a hyphen. This is to make it the first, or close to the first, document in any list. Now go to safari or any other program and select some text and copy it to the clipboard. Now run the clipme script either from the script menu or from the command you associated it with in Spark or a similar utility. The text of the clipboard along with the date and time of the clip will be appended to the end of the -clipmelog.txt file. Because this is just an AppleScript, indeed the code for it is at the end of this document. You can change the name of the log file and how it handles the date and so on. The clipme installer will install this script in your ~/Library/ Scripts folder but if you are using Spark you could move it to where ever you like. You may need to use the AppleScript Utility in the AppleScript directory of your Applications directory to turn on the AppleScript menu.
