I'm catching up on some old mail and didn't see a reply to this.

While you could output your DVD video via the Apple NTSC/S-Video adaptor, usually that signal includes an encoding called macrovision which spoils the recording to prevent piracy. I believe some programs out there allow you to turn off Macrovision protection which then means you could hit record on your VCR and play on your video and make a perfectly good copy. Legality of doing so is questionable.

While we're on the subject of converting, is there a software package
that will let me record my dvds onto vhs?

Hi
The current version of HandBrake will do this:

Note though that avi is a dying format, and version 0.9.3 is the last
version of HandBrake that will support it. There's also some command-
line tools to do this such as mencoder, so if you feel comfortable use
mencoder which is likely to have avi support for eternity simply
because there is nothing mplayer/mencoder can't read or create.

Hi listers,
I want to take some dvds I own, and convert them to avi files. Are there
any accessible programs that do this? I have tried a few, but they do not
appear to be compatible with voiceover.
Thanks,

John
