If you interact with the list and press VO-space on the item you are

Hi,

According to the Spotify web page, you're looking for someone from:
Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France or Spain. Or else someone who
has a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch and put on the Spot app from
Cydia.

Here's the iTunes Store URL (for those countries for which it is legal):

Migration Assistant Troubles

Hello, I have a quick question about the Migration Assistant. I have
created Time Machine Backups with an external firewire drive. I'd
like to restore some Apps with Migration Assistant, but for some
reason, its not recognizing the external drive. The drive is
formatted for Apple and I used the Time Machine program to make the
backups. Anyone know why its not showing up? Thanks for any help.

Re: Spotify for iPhone

2009-09-14 Thread David Hole

Hello Tony and rest of ye.
I have Spotify on both Windows and Mac.
On Windows, with jaws, you have to use the jaws-marker to brows around.
On the Mac, it's only possible to search for something, and play the
result without further browsing. :(
I've also mailed them a half year ago, and then they said they're not
gonna do something with accessibility in the near future :(
But if enough people request accessibility, maybe they change their minds...
So, for those who want to check it out, go to http://www.spotify.com and
register for an account (With invite, it's free. 1 moth pass, 99 NOK.
and 1 year subscription, 999 NOK. 1 day pass isn't possible for new
subscribers. (NOK = Norwegian kroner))

Re: Spotify for iPhone

2009-09-14 Thread John André Netland

Hi David,

I have not used this app on any platform, but I will check the free
version on iPHone later today if you like. In many cases, an iPhone
app can be fully accessible on the iPhone, even though the developer
don't care about it at all, and even though it may be inaccessible on
the Mac or Windows platform. That's the beauty of how Apple is
implementing accessibility into their frameworks now. I have spoke
with norwegian iPHone app developers that tells me they have not been
aware about the accessibility with VoiceOver issue, but simply
followed Apple's guidelines in programming, and created fully VO
compatible apps.

Thanks,
John André

Re: Snow Leopard and Itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Hi Esther,

Thanks for the directions for finding and previewing tracks. They work
well for the most part. I was going through a song list of about 50
songs, and had no trouble previewing the first 22 or so. Then I came
to a row where the mouse cursor would not route to the vO cursor; it
would only go to the Apple menu. Still, this is way better than no
access at all.

Best,
Anna

Re: Snow Leopard and Itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread Esther

Hi Anna,

What I usually do myself is VO-Right arrow from "Songs" to the "See
all" link and VO-Space. This loads the table of songs onto a new
page, but takes a while to respond, so if you're looking for a track
that is likely to be matched within the first dozen or so item listed,
you're better off just doing VO-Right arrow directly into the table.
When you're on the newly loaded HTML page for the songs list, you'll
notice that you can VO-Right arrow to a link for "Next page" if the
results are really long. Also, you can sort on the column headers, but
only if you are on the fields for the headers of each column for the
table and physically click on the headers with VO-Shift-Space after
routing your mouse cursor to your VoiceOver cursor (VO-Command-F5).
Clicking again reverses sort order. I don't recommend doing this
unless you just like to experiment, since it takes a while to reload,
and I'm not sure that it adds much to the current search. You can't
sort with a context menu or through the VoiceOver Commands menu (VO-H
twice).

I can't VO-Down arrow through any of the columns (in Leopard), for
instance, to look for a specific Artist when I've done a song search,
so I think you'd be advised to put in as many fields as you want to
select by when you use the Power Search.

What may have happened for the first 22 tracks you could preview is
that you were in a scrolling table that didn't update. That may be
why we're forced to VO-Right arrow through the individual tracks. You
could try commands like VO-End and VO-Home (to go to end and
beginning, including scrolling). I think its more robust to press
"See all" and have the songs table load by itself on to a new page
instead of working with results embedded in the HTML area containing
Album results, etc. in terms of working with VoiceOver but it is less
responsive in terms of having to wait for the new page to load.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

Re: VO+f8 doesn't work after upgrade to SnowLeopard

2009-09-14 Thread BlindMacMan

Hello!

Are you trying to turn VoiceOver on by pressing Control-Option-F8 or
bring up the Voiceover Utility?

Before you can open VoiceOver Utility, VoiceOver must be turned on
(Command-F5). Once VoiceOver is on, you can open VoiceOver Utility
with Control-Option-F8.

Remember, depending upon your keyboard, settings and/or computer
model, you may have to hold down the FN key as well.

Interestin. That might account for some of it, but I thought there

Re: I got back a tonne of space

2009-09-14 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

Well, the daily, weekly, and monthly scripts are supposed to remove
older temp files. If you regularily shutdown your system, I understand
that the launch service can get confused and never schedule them to
run. Check the consoel for their log files and confirm that they have
run. There are also some add on utilities meant to clean out old
preference files and such.

Re: awesome new keyboard command in itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread BlindMacMan

Hello!

Just as an add-on to your Command-Option-F "find" in iTunes, after you
enter your search term in the search field, you can press OPTION-
RETURN and your search will take place inn the iTunes Store, not your
Library.

I would also like to point out that these keyboard commands have been
around since iTunes 7ish...

Re: Message headers and voiceover

2009-09-14 Thread Christina

I had not been able to get the menu to come up via a mouse click. It
just would not work for me. However, I just figured out why. Well,
at least I think that is why. Every time I would rout the mouse
pointer to the voiceover cursor and mouse click nothing would happen
except for the sound of the mouse click. My voiceover cursor size was
set to ten. If I shrink the voiceover cursor to one then route the
mouse pointer to the voiceover cursor then do the mouse click then it
works and a menu comes up.

Thanks,
Christina

Re: Snow Leopard and Itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread Christina

Hi,

I have a question. I want to make sure I understand. One of the
reasons I have not upgraded to itunes nine is because of the switch in
the itunes store from the songs table to the table being embedded in
the html as an html table. I like the songs table and use the sort
features as well as typing in a few letters to jump down the column.
When you click on the see all, what exactly loads? Is it a songs
table that works as it does in itunes 8 or is it just another table in
html, only more results are displayed?

Thanks so much and I hope my question makes sense,

 Hi to the list.

I am really confused about how to purchase a song using Itunes 9.
I type a title into the search field, no problem.

 Hit Enter.

I can find the HTML portion of the Itunes store without difficulty
containing all of the albums with the particular song, but the
 songs
table listing individual songs is simply missing, pressing VO right
arrow simply is showing no song table at all.

Any hints about where the heck is the songs table would sure be
 helpful, and thanks a lot.

Turning off Maiol preview pane

2009-09-14 Thread Brett Campbell

Hello,

I visited the archives and believe I followed the instructions
correctly, but I can't turn the preview pane on and off. I like to
use the preview pane for the most part. However, I like to turn it
off when I examine the contents of my junk folder before deleting.
This is what I've been trying. I navigate to the horizontal splitter,
route the mouse with VO, command F5 and double click the mouse with
the num pad commander. I've tried the same sequence with VO, shift,
space double click with no results.
I had no trouble turning off the preview pane with Leopard. This is
not a complaint about SL, just letting you know that I'm capable of
doing it.
I'd appreciate suggestions and apologize for bringing this up again
after it was already discussed not too long ago.
Thanks,

Brett

Hi all.

I'm sorry if this has ben posted here before, but I'll just let you

that it's available on the new Ipod Touch on Apples website, and I've
read that it's available in the new firmware version 3.1 on the Iphone
in the Voiceover section in the Voiceover manual.

Re: Turning off Maiol preview pane

2009-09-14 Thread Justin Harford

Hi there

I think the problem here is with the VO mouseclick command. It
doesn't work here. You have to do a real mouseclick with the mouse
button.

If you don't have a laptop, this may be a bit harder, but it can be
done. Go to universal access, click on the mouse and trackpad tab.
Check "press the option key 5 times to turn mousekeys on". I had to
click this with the mouse, not sure why, but the second time I checked
it it worked with vo space. Then route the mouse to the horizontal
splitter in the mail window, and press function+I or function+5 if
you imagine an embetted number pad on the laptop. Hmm, I should think
that on a desktop this would just be numpad 5.

I hope that works.

Re: Message headers and voiceover

2009-09-14 Thread Christina

um, I don't think the size of the voiceover cursor affects the
performance. I am just guessing here but I think it's because the
voiceover cursor is displayed in a larger size than what is actually
on the screen so when the mouse pointer routs to the larger voiceover
cursor the mouse pointer may not actually be pointing or hovering over
the exact spot and therefore when clicked it isn't actually clicking
on the desired item. I hope that makes sense. :)

Re: Snow Leopard and Itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread Esther

Hi Christina,

When you click on the "see all" in the search results for the Store in
iTunes 9, the table is still in the HTML area. It's a bit like what
you get in iTunes 8 when you run a search from the Power Search menu
that you can access from the "Store" menu of the iTunes menu bar (VO-
M; press "S"; arrow down and press "S" to get to the "Search" option
and press return), or that you can navigate to by using item chooser
menu on the iTunes home page or the various music, movie, audiobooks,
etc. pages when you look for the "Power Search" link.

When you look for results of the search that are in the HTML area --
say, "Albums", and you VO-Right Arrow past that heading category,
you'll also find a "see all" link. When you press that link (VO-
Space), you get an entire HTML page of album results and no songs
table when you stop interacting and VO-Down arrow from the HTML area.
There are also links to navigate to the next page if there are too
many results to display on a single page. However, what's different
is that the album listings are shown in grid view mode instead of list
view mode in the HTML area, and since the information about artists
etc. is grouped by the grid entry, you can't sort as you can on a
table where the data is summarized in columns.

In iTunes 9, the table is still in the HTML area. I think it takes
somewhat longer to refresh and display in HTML format than it does for
a list in plain text, but it's not a terrible difference. I'm guessing
that Anna had difficulties previewing the later songs in a long list
on the main search results page, because they probably put the song
results into a scrolling table to occupy less space, while still
displaying the album, music videos, other artist, etc. search results
in the HTML area of the search results page -- just as they do in
iTunes 8.

On the separate HTML page for the songs table that you get when you
press the "See All" link you can still sort on the columns. The only
thing is, you have to do it the way that sighted users do by clicking
with your mouse or trackpad or using VO-Shift-Space or pressing "5" on
the numeric keypad with NumPad Commander, on the title of the column.
Probably the big thing is that you can't navigate down the columns
(e.g. sort by Artist name and VO-Down arrow) -- at least I can't in
Leopard.

There are actually some nice features in iTunes 9 -- the big thing
being that smart playlists have become much more customizable. Here's
a link to an iLounge article about what's new in iTunes 9 followed by
a partial excerpt about smart playlists:

I suspect they'll stay with the songs table in the HTML area for
future versions of iTunes 9, but that they'll improve the navigation
for VoiceOver in the next minor release. I have to upgrade to iTunes
9 because of its support for the new iPod Touch, and there are new
syncing options (including, for iPhone and iPod Touch users, the
ability to update iTunes Store apps individually and links to let you
check the iTunes Store page descriptions to decide whether you want to
upgrade.)

Re: Snow Leopard and Itunes 9

2009-09-14 Thread Christina

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I imagine I won't be able to
hold off on upgrading much longer because itunes 8 has given messages
that some features may not be available without upgrading. I really
do not want to upgrade at this time though. I don't like too much
change at once. I'll wait it out a bit. I do want to get an iphone
so I suppose I'll have to update at that time. :) ,

PeachPit press and training.

2009-09-14 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

Does anybody know if the PeachPit books used for Apple certifications
are available in a Daisy or audible format? I have been thinking
about getting some official training, and I saw that Apple uses books
from the PeachPit press. A few years ago, I would have just gone out
and bought the book and struggled with it page every 1/2 hour. But I
don't think I could even accomplish that now.

How can I turn that frustrating trackpad of.

2009-09-14 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen

Hi.

The trackpad is frustrating me, suddenly it starts up in text edit or
in nisus writer. I have tried to turn it of under voiceover setting,
it helps, but sometimes it turns itself on again.

I would like to use the trackpad, but I am in doubt about, what the
advantage could be. I do not feel that I can control my keyboard, when
the trackpad is turned on.

If anybody can help, I would be glad.

Best regards Annie.

Hello, according to some posts i found on the internet the empty trash option
was removed from the finder menu with the introduction of snow leopard.
I was assuming the delete key was the key that is backspace on my pcs and
windows laptops because voicover calls it delete, am i wrong here because
according to that seem forum command-shift-delete should indeed do a normal
empty trash.
Thanks

opening saved game file

2009-09-14 Thread anouk radix

Hello, apparently not all file dialogs work the seem, i am in zoom and
want to open a games save file. I am in the directory listing and it
says games collapsed level zero, but how do i now go in that directory
and select the file I want? i can do right arrow and it says x rows
added so i think it has opened the directory but if i do down arrow it
wont go into it I also cant interact with it to enter it and command
down does not work either.I can do vo-right arrow but that folder has
about 300 files in it and i cant seem to type letters of the file name
to find it, i am curious while this file dialog does not work as the
others I have found so far.

kill application command

2009-09-14 Thread anouk radix

Hello, A bit disturbingly to me although os x itself has only hung
once on me several applications often need to be force quit and
restarted before they work again, this is now a bit of a lengty
process because you have to go to the appl e menu and then force quit,
verification which often cannot be gone to by command-tab so then you
have to go to application chooser and then you have to reconfirm and
see if you want to report it or not. Is there no immediately command
which just lets you quit the application without further questions? i
have to force quit applications like vlc safari and zoom several times
a day, in general i get a lot of busy and (application) busy messages
and when this is going on i get no voicover feedback at all. To me at
least things seem a lot more sluggish then they were.

opening saved games(again)

2009-09-14 Thread anouk radix

Hello, ok i guess i have found a quicker way thatshould work,
apparently if i type the name of the saved gamefile into the search

though i see it in the file list and it says it is selected i cant
open it by hitting the open button because it is dimmed.
I do not understand what i am doing wrong.

Snow Leopard and Itunes 9, Buttons in the main window

2009-09-14 Thread James Fettgather

Hi to the list.

I have noticed on one Mac computer running Snow Leopard and Itunes 9,
when the Itunes store is selected, pressing VO and right arrow
announces buttons such as music, TV shows, and movies.

On another identical mac mini with Snow Leopard and Itunes 9, these
buttons are missing, completely not there.

Is there any apparent reason for the absence of these buttons?

Thanks.

Re: opening saved game file

2009-09-14 Thread anouk radix

Hi Mark hitting vo-\ does not seem to do anything, in the keyboard
help it gives the right function but when i type it when standing on
the games folder nothing happens, i can open it allright with just the
right arrow though, but if i want to go through it, or just in it i
have to tope vo-right arrow, after that i cant just type in letters to
get to a filename but i have found that vo-search does work, i still
cant select the desired file though. I also find this stange, in other
applications i can open a folder with right arrow and then move within
its contents with down arrow, if i then stop interacting with a dialog
the file i was standing on is selected, this does not seem to be the
case here. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I cant come up with
what this would be.

Re: preventing adium from reading message history

2009-09-14 Thread anouk radix

Hello, i had problems with adium at first too and dont find it to be
that fast now, you can close the contacts window with command-w and
then the window you were chatting in will come to the front, you will
be in the text field where you can type your message, press vo-left
and voicover will say unknown. You have to hit vo-shift-down arrow on
this so it will interact with it (its an html scroll area i think)
then you have to press vo-right to go to the messages. This is where I
have problems with because it is rather irritating to have to scroll
through all the messages all the time, I havent found out yet if there
is a shortcut to get to the last message.
I myself prefer to just have the last message shown and nothing more

Listers I use threading to help with my mail sorting and when I press
enter on a thread the system will open all the messages at once which
is fine, but the problem comes in when I have to delete or close the
front most message. This is when Mail crashes. Any suggestions?

MacOS RFB&D Downloader

2009-09-14 Thread Greg Kearney

This AppleScript application will ask you to find a .rfbd file and
will then download that book into your downloads directory in the
background. You will find your completed book in your downloads
directory of your home directory. If you have Growl installed you will
get a notification when the process is completed.

NOTE: This application will quit after it starts the download. The
Download itself will continue and may take a considerable amount of
time depending on the title and the speed of your internet connection.

Re: MacOS RFB&D Downloader

2009-09-14 Thread Justin Harford

Right I was about to say the same thing. This is great that we have a
way to download RFBD books to our macs, but still annoying that we
haven't got a way to play them.

Do you have any suggestions Greg?

This is a really great idea.

Re: Trackpad commander and Zoom. Possible to use both at the same time?

2009-09-14 Thread Mueller, Matt

It sure is. The trackpad commander performs just as it would if Zoom
were not enabled. When Zoom is enabled and you place a finger on the
trackpad, the voiceover cursor moves to the item at that position and
Zoom tracks to it. Normally Zoom would primarily follow the mouse
cursor. With the trackpad commander, the cursor is generally hidden,
and the VO cursor "takes the lead" so to speak. The limitation, and
it is to be expected, is that you cannot pan the viewing area to view
a different part of the screen without also moving the VO cursor there
as well. For that it is easiest to turn the trackpad commander off
for a second, glance at what you want to see, and then re-enable it.
Note that I generally have the mouse cursor follow the VO cursor, so I
can't really comment on the finer details when manipulating them
separately using VoiceOver commands. Hope this answers your
question. Let me know if you want more specifics.
