Insert Graphics

2005-03-28 Thread Alan Tang
Hi Everyone
I am a newbie of Lyx. So if this is a stupid question please don't
ignore it, just tell me which keyword I should drop in Google.

I am using Debian testing. I tried to add png, eps graphics to my lyx
file, it can display the pictures in edit mode. But when I try to view
as dvi I got this error.
-
LaTeX Error: Option clash for package graphics.
\usepackage
   {longtable}
The package graphics has already been loaded with options:
 []
There has now been an attempt to load it with options
 [dvips]
Adding the global options:
 ,dvips
to your \documentclass declaration may fix this.
Try typingto proceed.

I tried to search that error in google and in this mailing list archive.
I can not find an answer.

Kind Regards
Alan.

Hi Alan,

I don't know what the error means exactly, but have you tried adding a
figure float and putting the graphic inside the float? I believe that
to be the "standard" way that lyx handles graphics, so you might try
that first.

Luck!

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your reply. Now I can see the figures in DVI. (well,
actually my original file was somehow damaged. I can only copy all the
text and start a new file. Then it works).

p.s. Pity that LyX tutorial from help menu did not tell me this.
Alan.

You need ghostview to view the images inside LyX.
Do you have it(ghostview)?

Hi Robert,
Thanks for reply. I can view images inside LyX. The problem was when I
want view from DVI, it reports an error.

Andrew's suggestion did the magic.

Alan,

Glad to see it is working for you. I know there can be some
frustrations in learning to use lyx. And figures can sometimes be hard
to deal with, especially. This morning I had errors of my own related
to figures I was inserting. Once you get the hang of it, inserting
floats and graphics becomes pretty easy.

The tutorial does not cover inserting graphics, but the user guide does
in section 4.3.

Luck!

Dear LyX users,
I am encoutering some difficulties by using inclupdf package.
As a basic example:
- I have a LyX file in which I wrote in the preamble
"\usepackage{includepdf}"
I think this should be \usepackage{pdfpages}
- I have a P1.pdf file saved in the same directory than the lyX file
- in my Lyx file, I wrote in an ERT: "includepdf{P1.pdf}"
Don't forget the backslash:  \includepdf{P1.pdf}

but it doesn't work.
Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance!

LyX 1.3.6 will build out of the box on Windows using MinGW. LyX 1.4.x will
build as an MSVC project also. ChangGil Han has always tried to keep up
with the official LyX releases and release a CJK-LyX version soon
afterwards:
http://cellular.phys.pusan.ac.kr/cjk.html

For example, I see
ftp://cellular.phys.pusan.ac.kr/CJK-LyX/qt/CJK-LyX-qt-1.3.5-1.i386.rpm

Perhaps you might drop him an email and ask whether he would consider
providing a Windows executable in future too. Or *you* might volunteer to
do the compilation on your Windows machine.

Remember, LyX is only as good as the volunteers who contribute...

ÂSNIPÂ problems with accented characters...
A (not particularly pretty) workaround *may* be to use the latex
equivalents, viz;
à = {\"O}
à = {\~a}
à = {\'a}
... et cetera

When I moved to FC2, I had similar problems with accented characters
which turned out to be issues between UTF and ASCII. However, your
problem sounds a little bit different so my suggestion might not work.

Good luck.

Line numbering

2005-03-28 Thread Martin Henry Stevens
I would like to add a number in the margin of each line in a manuscript
(either sequential, or re-starting on each page), but I have been unable
to find anything on the topic in the User Guide or Extended help (or in
Google "line number" and LyX).

I would be grateful for any and all leads.
Cheers!

   That is why you don't find it, the same applies to linuxdoc btw...
