Doesn't work at least for me because I couldn't
insert the \, more precisely nothing happened !

the backslash is never seen in mathmode! look at the attached file,
there are different solutions for your problem

In the pull down menu for options/screen fonts, I've found one I like, and in the pull down Roman font is -adobe-times new roman But when I try to put that in my lyxrc file, I get errors. KLYX WORD PROCESSOR
I have printed off all there is on my MD7.0+St.Off5.01 regarding KLYX documentation and read it carefully. No-where can I get it to create:- MY NAME(top left) MY ADDRESS(top right) date SEND TO ADDRESS (beginning 5.5cm below top of page) Main text TEL NUMBER(bottom left) E-MAIL ADDRESS(bottom right) all with about a 2.5cm page margin alround. The satandard template will not do this so by definition a customised job is necessary.I do not seem able to produce a customised job either.What do I do? Would it not of been better to of given the programme a headers and footers enviroment where the standard letter headings go in any form or style chosen.The rest is easy enough to type in by the typist each time a letter is invoked . The manual is verbose and improcise ,and needs rewiting by professional manual writers ,people who have been trained to understand the combination of visual and concisely writen instruction, that make the chore as short as possible,and builds up the users confidence from the start.That means precise instruction, do this do that,click hear click there, choose from dropdown menu ,select from list ,lardy, lardy lar.It should include some pictures in greyscale to demonstrate whereever feasible the type of command and layout. The use of block diagrammes linked by lines to show options ,not unlike that which produces the visual command lines in the folders and files structure tree,but with larger boxes with better descriptions of where to click or what to type. Of course the person(s) who would do this would have first to have a full hands on training by someone with that prior knowledge of how it all works.I am sure that they are in short supply,but this would make a nice project for some university dept. with the write sort of skills.Money well spent. changing caption environment & positioning of figures
Hello, Today I finished my master thesis, but I still have two problems: The most important is that one of my figures is not inserted in my document. This is a small figure in a floatflt environment. The problem is that this figure follows after a huge figure float containing three figures. This float is printed on a separate page, but LaTeX seems to be unable to insert the small figure before the huge one. I inserted the large float at the very beginning of the section it belongs to. How can I solve this? My preferences for the insertion of floats are htbp. Changing to !htbp does not solve my problem. My second problem is that the captions are hardly discernable from the normal text. I want to print them in a slightly smaller font and italic. How can I change the caption environment? Little idea for typing comfort
Hi, first of all: thanks to Herbert Voss for solving my previous problem. A little idea to improve the comfort in typing. LyX should prevent the user from typing a blank space before a point, a coma and so on or move it after the sign, thus avoiding mistakes like these: "I love LyX_,but I prefer girls_!" (where underscore means space) Of course it would be necessary a way to turn this control off, so to allow to type numbers like in: "my IQ is_.0001" As I am learning python I promise to prepare a script to check that mistake that I make rather often typing my thesis. Seems to me that the Extended.lyx doc says that the floatflt package
is a bit fragile with page breaks, so that the normal float control
does not help: you must try tu put the floatflt right in the
middle of a page to avoid automatic placement near top or bottom.
Can't you manage to control the
positioning by hand (i.e. moving huge floats around ?)

export html really does not work, eps puzzles too
I saw a note about this recently in here. I installed latex2html.
I use RedHat 6.1 with lyx 1.5.1fix
In lyx, when I try export to HTML, a menu says "file.tex" already
exists. Do you want to overwrite the file?
WHile I'm exposing more of my ignorance, let me ask this. I imported an
eps file and it looks fine on the screen in lyx, but when I view in dvi
the figure is all the way over to the right side of the page. I've
found it fixes it if I set the horizontal width at 100%. Can someone
explain why?
Also, in the panel you get when you double click an the eps figure,
there is a space for a caption. In the exported tex, it shows up like
caption{} but there are no words in it. Does this work for you? It
works in a floating figure that I say is a subfigure.

This means that you alread exported the lyx file as tex in your dir,
(either with export as HTML or with Export as TeX
so lyx asks for a confirmation. Just answer Yes.

If your EPS has a lousy BoundingBox, this is possible. How did you
get it ?

The regular caption of the float in in the LyX window, not in the popup

algorithm use
Hello, I would like to use the latex algorithm and algorithmic packages, such a way that this environment is seen as a new style in lyx. 1) Does someone currently use these packages under lyx, and if so do they put the raw latex commands in lyx ? If not how do they use it ? 2) I've read the documentation and I can define a new style, when it is quite basic. My problem here is that the latex translation is more complex, and the visual aspect is not so easy to manage. In brief, I don't know what to. Can we use macros to translate into latex, and to perform the visual aspect ? Can we put a dynamic behaviour such as: if the first word written is "keyword" then the latex translation would be something, and if not another latex syntax is used, etc.? 3) I must confess that I'm a newbie in latex and in lyx. booktabs -- please, comment
Hi, while looking for something I have found LaTeX package booktabs. Reading its documentation (I have it at /usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/..??../booktabs ) make me confused. The author seems to be rather radical and quite strange to my taste. Would be willing and ready knowingly comment on his two doctrines? 1) You should NEVER (literarily) use vertical rules in a table. 2) You should NEVER (nearly) use double rules in a table. The second issue doesn't bother me, but the first one seems to me quite strange. Sounds like someone's opinion to me. Depending on the type of document, audience, etc., they should be perfectly acceptable and serve distinct purposes (as your example implies).
