It's transferring the data over an encrypted channel. If you're updating
your mirror then there's no actual reason to transfer the publicly
accessible data encrypted.

As quick as simple ssh or simple rsync

I don't see how. consider having 200 people fired from "whateverbigcompany"
in a day, now since most of them are linux/unix professionals they are surly
subscribe to linux-il. what if 30% of them decide to post a short message
to the list saying they want a job? you'll have 50-70 emails for job
requests? thats nice. I like to see that in a technical/political list.
It's very constructive to the overall float of information.

an alternative would be to open linux-il-jobs.
consider doing this because self propaganda is not in place for
this list.

any btw, I too am looking for jobs but as much as i wanted (and i did)
to send my intro to the list, well, I didn't.

[OT] Job Wanted

2002-10-14 Thread Guy Cohen

Hi,

I'm looking for work as an Unix system administrator and/or security
consultant/implementor. I have been working in and on the internet for
the past 5 years. For the last year I've been working as a freelance.
Currently I'm looking to provide installations, support, maintenence,
scripts, custom kernel, prefs tuning and all sorts of unix magic for small
to medium companies who doesn't necessary need a full time unix person.

If you are interested, please feel free to visit my web site at
http://www.uadm.com and http://www.uadm.com/services.html
and a list of sites I worked on are at http://www.uadm.com/links.html.
(old .doc format is also available)

Sincerely,

Guy Cohen.

Anyhow to the matter if you really want to know. It's an old p-133
running with kernel 2.4.19. pppd version 2.4.1, pptp version 1.1.0-1.
The only reason i suspect that is a bug with pppd is because 2 times
I was lucky enough to be on the logging terminal when it happened
and the last thing showed before the freeze was pppd: terminated by peer.

Not expressing any constructive opinion, your paragraph here is just saying

Go with your complains to the government. "Lishkat Ha'havoda's" webmasters
course is a joke. Generally speaking, not to disrespect anyone, the level of
professional knowledge in Israel webhosting market is lower then the dead sea.

Surely you are joking? To make a site (as complex as it is) to be compliant
with all browsers (or rfcs) is, roughly estimated, 5% more work to someone
who knows what he's doing (i.e. any second level programmer in India, Europa,
USA (though more expensive), Australia and so on).

I will. And I want you to try stop me. You might scared him off, but some
people are well aware of their legal rights and are associated with

garbage in man pages

I have a problem with reading man pages on redhat8.
some chars are missing and instead I see garbage.
The garbage chars replace mostly the "-" chars infront of options.

Any one knows what's the problem?

Thanks

Re: [arrest@tmicha.net: Warning! Your message was rejected]

2003-08-02 Thread Guy Cohen
Yes you are right...

Actcom is very close to lose my vote (and my monthly fee)..

I have informed them 3 times in the last 2 month about spam
that is coming from there network. actually to be more specific
from 192.115.135.186 (main.retal.co.il). with specific logs of
spam attempts from this user to use my mail server as a base of his
spam. They did not do anything, and did not even replied to my emails.
When I called them they said I should mail them the logs. Which I did.

They still do nothing.

This is absolutly disrespct for good paying customers!!!

I could understand they want that user monthly fee, but I guess if
more people will send them emails telling them they will close their
accounts. Maybe then they'll do something. My guess that thmicha.net
is just the start and actcom users will start get massive rejects, as
today policies are very strict and sometimes ISP closes relay from
entire class C's.

Actcom!! Do something or lose me as a client!.

I may be missing something here, but once an attacker have root access
to your firewall, what prevents her from modifying routing tables and even
more, changing the security policy to allow her access from any machine.
This does not require any disk space you know ...

If you would give some information about routing tables, ifconfigs output,

I been away from the list for a while and beed reading the list again
for the last few days. I could not help but noticing pepoel reply
to mails to the sender _and_ to the list, and i ask you why ?
In mutt you press the "L" for replying only to the list, so is that
so hard to do that instead of typing the "g" for global reply ?
I'm quite sure pine, elm, or any other mailer have a group reply only
botton/function. So why don't use that ?

Guy

P.S. now if someone reply to this, i just wondar how it will be done (L/g) ?.

Good point, i have forgot that.
in .muttrc put a line start with:
lists . For example i have there:
lists [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
etc.
This will also put the name of the list in the pager instead of the sender name, which
personaly i find very usefull

the simplest win->linux network. i.e. if you would give us some details of
how you configured the server, or what errors you are getting it might help
us solve your problem.

Just as a side wonder ... did you start the service ?
/path/to/httpd -f /path/to/httpd.conf
or
/path/to/apachectl start

and did you check the configuration file for errors ?
/path/to/apachectl

There still a bug, quite new, will password handling. i.e.
(from securityfocus bugid 1780)
Share level password protection for the File and Print Sharing service
in Windows 95/98/ME can be bypassed.
Share level access provides peer to peer networking capabilities in
the Windows 9x/ME environment. It depends on password protection in
order to grant or deny access to resources. Due to a flaw in the
implementation of File and Print Sharing security, a remote intruder
could access share level protected resources without entering a
complete password by programatically modifying the data length of the
   password.
(end from)
so set your samba client correctly (modify the code) and bingo..

This is realy an intersting question, so I've spent my evening search
sendmail book (O`reilly) for the answer and I'm sorry to say i didn't
find an answer. I think what is happening is the header first written
then the delivery agent get into work to modify the $u with the aliases
file (F=A).

If you find any other answer (what did the guys at comp.mail.sendmail said ?)
please let me know.

sorting hebrew in mysql

Hi,

I want to sort a mysql table, but the charset in the database is
Hebrew. I currently *can not* recompile mysql with Hebrew or start
it with --default-character-set=hebrew. The solution i had in mind
was to change the appropriate colum from varchar to either BLOB or
VARCHAR BINARY. Can this approach help? and more importantly what
happens to the current data in the colum when changing its type to
BLOB or VARCHAR BINARY?

Thanks,

little code snipplet

Here's a little modify (just a bit) snipplet from phreak about
how to hide files and process. Canany one answer me why
does it exit after it finds the first hidden process, and don't go
on to hide the second hidden porcess?

Thanks,

Here is found that the process should be invisible, so copy the address
of the next process over it to hide it. but if you'll see further on, we do
it again, because we want to know about the next process.
so if you'll add something like next=1 here and ...

add next=0 to the else

I'm not a lawyer buy im wondering what is their case. Having your
mail server auto-add a message claiming your message is the property
of your boss, and adds a "do not touch" sign, makes it legal for them

Secprog lesson 101...
here's a little format string vuln
/sct_parselib/logger.cpp: syslog(LOG_ERR, msg);
should be: syslog(LOG_ERR, "%s", msg);

Shared hosting enviorment docs

2002-09-09 Thread Guy Cohen

Hi,

I'm looking for any kind of links to documents you might have about
shared hosting enviorment. Anything from the simpelst howto, system and
server security, fine tunning and code patching to complex cluster solutions,
high-end servers recommendation (in the docs) and low price hardware resellers.
But mostly good old docs regarding the subject.

Thanks
  Guy

Re: Shared hosting environment docs

2002-09-09 Thread Guy Cohen

I'm replying to my self so thats pretty sad, but i see I got no
answer what so ever and I wondered maybe I just didn't explain my
self correctly. Saying shared hosting environment does not mean in any
way windows shared server/network crap. I was talking about a
linux/bsd/solaris server that runs apache and have several (more then 100)
virtual domains, many users, virtual or non virtual ftpd, postfix or
sendmail servers, etc etc, in simple words a web hosting company.
Any docs on subject would be welcome. I know the 2 words: search engine,
I've done a good share of searching. I'm looking for the extra nautch..

Say you want to make a tight security policy in your firewall:
dont let *anything* enter to the windows network
but
lets some services in, because you have a web, mail, ssh, ftp, etc
servers.

you configure 2 networks, prefrebly connect them to 2 different interfaces
on the firewall. The windows network is totaly secured and is your private
LAN. the other network, the one with the open servers, is secured with the
firewall but is open to some services. this is your DMZ.

You couldn't be more right. The art of mailing list is slowly dying.
people who spend 5 and more years investigating unix want to get payed
and are sick and tired of not finding a job because a potential employer
could just send a question to the mailing list and get the answer he
*should* pay for.

On the other hand, what happens when you get stuck?

Of course there's no substitute to real professional who's doing a good
job. However, often times a solution to a problem is so simple that you
could just ask the mailing list and not spend the extra 30$ to call your
favorite problem solver. As one of those guys who's providing a service
I can't help but wonder if the time of the mailing lists should not have
passed (or at list decreased) from the internet world at the time the
"bubble" exploded and we're all got left with no jobs or jobs who pay
nickel and dime.
