Missing feta20.afm file on Cygwin - Windows 2000
I have installed lilypon on Cygwin on a Windows 2000 machine. When I run the lilypond command I get a message about a missing feta20.afm file. I researched the mailing list archives and couldnt find a solution to the problem. The result of both printenv TEXMF and kpsewhich feta20.afm both give null responses: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cygdrive/l> printenv TEXMF [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cygdrive/l> kpsewhich feta20.afm [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cygdrive/l> I followed the usual Cygwin setup prompts and let the installation run through to completion as it took at least ten minutes. Re: Distance between staves
Same problem for me, my long established method of using interscoreline = some small or even negative length to fine tune the distance between staves and the number of staves per page doesn't work any more. I suspect this has something to do with the use of the latex backend, but at this point I really don't know how to deal with this problem. Any help appreciated. Ciao, Antonio Renato Biolcati Rinaldi wrote: Hello How do I decrease the distance between staves? Why do chords print below staff?
I used to get chordnames printing above the staff, but now they always, always print below. Nothing I try to change seems to have any effect on the position whatsover. I've searched the entire archive, but all to no avail. Hoping desperately someone can help. This is the third time I've tried to solve the problem, and it's taken 3 hours of absolute frustration. It all works fine until I add the chords - they always go to the bottom, never the top. \score { << \context ChordNames { \set chordChanges = ##t \guitar } \context Voice = mel { \set Staff.instrument = #"Melody" \set Staff.instr = #"Mel" \global \Key \melody } \lyricsto "mel" \new Lyrics \text \context PianoStaff = "piano" \piano >> % -- common to all scores -- \layout { \context { \RemoveEmptyStaffContext } linewidth = 180.0\mm \context { \Voice \consists Ambitus_engraver } } \midi { \tempo 4=110 } } -- Peter F Whyte Belfast (N Ireland) ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

I was using version 2.4.3 that comes with cygwin, because I am on a PC with Windows 2000. That is the version I got from the 'download' page of Lilypond for Windows. The command \set Staff.minimumVerticalExtent = #'(-4 . 4) Doesn't seem to help much, Since (-4 . 4) is the default value in LilyPond version 2.4, it will obviously not make any diffence. However, from version 2.4, the property minimumVerticalExtent will only affect the separation within each score line, i.e. if you have a score with several staves it will affect the distance between the staves and if you have a a score with a stave of music and a line of lyrics then it will affect the separation between these. If you want to affect the distance between the score lines, then you should use the betweensystempadding and betweensystemspace as described in the section on "Page layout" in the manual. For the record (it seems from private emails that Charles suffered from some temporary problems): This is never the correct solution! Re: Why do chords print below staff?
Tricky one! I send a copy to bug-lilypond, both since the difference between \chords and \chordmode is completely undocumented (except for the NEWS file for 2.4) and since I don't realize why the chords end up below the stave. I stripped down your example to the following, where the chords still are printed below the staff. \version "2.4.0" melody = \relative c'' { a4 a8 a g4 g | f2 f | } guitar = \new ChordNames \chordmode { f2 c | f1 | } \score { << \new ChordNames { \set chordChanges = ##t \guitar } \new Staff \context Voice = mel { \melody } >> } Note that I replaced '\chords' with '\new ChordNames \chordmode' (which is equivalent) in an attempt to understand what's going on. The chords will move up above the stave if you do at least one of the following: - Replace 'guitar = \new ChordNames \chordmode' with 'guitar = \chordmode' - Move the property setting of chordChanges into guitar = \new ChordNames \chordmode {...} /Mats Peter F Whyte wrote: I've attached a couple of stripped down files that don't seem to work. RE: Distance between staves
Feature request - - Several recent threads demonstrate a desire for absolute control of vertical spacing. Available defaults and overrides normally create wonderful layouts, but there are instances where they frustrate user efforts to effect specific vertical spacing. Currently available handles include betweensystempadding, betweensystemspace, Staff minimumVerticalExtent, and careful use of \raise as in \markup { "" \raise #n "" }. Only the awkward markup construct is line specific. In combination, these behave somewhat unpredictably. The need is an ability to dictate precise vertical layouts, line by line, even if this provides control ad absurdum. - Bruce ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Re: Missing Font
Will Oram wrote: Thanks, the fix worked. Now the time signature is printed in a typewriter font, as was the problem in an earlier version with dynamics. yes, you'd do cd .fonts ; ln -s /sw/share/lilypond/2.5.23/fonts/type1/*pfa . every time you upgrade, you have to reset the links, becuase the version number is in the path of the fonts. And the drag and drop app works great. What's the significance of the snake/worm? do you get the typewriter font with the drag & drop app as well? the snake is a python, since the underlying script is a python script. I'm currently delving into Cocoa to build point & click support for PDF, so stay tuned. -- Han-Wen Nienhuys - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://www.xs4all.nl/~hanwen ___ lilypond-user mailing list lilypond-user@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

Yes, thank you, for some reason making aliases in the Finder did not do the same as ln for some reason. Deleting them and working from your suggestion in an earlier post fixed it. every time you upgrade, you have to reset the links, becuase the version number is in the path of the fonts. I'm currently delving into Cocoa to build point & click support for PDF, so stay tuned. The monospace font problem is gone now, so I can't test it. However, it did refuse to operate when I was functioning with dead links in /.fonts this morning. I got a similar warning message to the error I posted at the start of this thread. It's a great idea, and I could make use of it. I personally still have a desire to stay in Terminal, but for the millions of Mac users out there, this will offer a significant boost in public awareness. layout question
Hello list, I have this piece that starts out with a combined Soprano and Alto and separate Piano system. After measure 14 there is a Tenor + Bass system added. After measure 36 the Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass staves are exploded to 4 systems. The numbers are not very important, but it's easier talking... At the first page I get 3 lines, page 2 starts with measure 14 and also has 3 lines. At page 3 measure 26 starts, but only has 2 lines, and looks pretty weird in it's layout. The first line is completely at the top, the second at the bottom, giving the page a very empty look in the middle. On page 4 measure 36 starts and those are the last two lines. They do fill up the page neatly. An overall look of the music: - page 1 looks widely spaced, but not ugly - page 2 looks decently filled, neat and good. - page 3 looks empty - page 4 looks good again, except for a minor oddity in the lyrics which I should look at some time... I could live with some clear space between the lines, but I would think that such a thing should be more consequent among the pages. It is engraved with Lilypond 2.4.5 I have the piece available for display at: http://minas-2.demon.nl/~michiel/muziek/blessyou.ly http://minas-2.demon.nl/~michiel/muziek/blessyou.pdf If you have some suggestions on how to make the piece really good-looking I would be very glad!
