pagebreaks with 2.4.2

2005-02-08 Thread Jean-marc LEGRAND

Dear list ,

Even if there has been several discussions upon this subject, I still don't
understand how to use
\pagebreak.

When I moved to 2.4.2 on XP, I converted my 2.2.5 .ly and the \newpage within
the header block in my
main .ly became \\page break :

\version "2.4.0"
#(set-global-staff-size 16)
\header {
  title = "MESSE POUR LES INSTRUMENTS"
  subtitle = "au lieu des orgues - H.513"
  composer = "Marc-Antoine CHARPENTIER (1643-1704)"
  }

\include "01.ly"
\score  {
  <<
  \context Staff ="1er dessus" \dessusI
  \context Staff ="2ème dessus" \dessusII

  \context Staff ="taille" \taille
  \context Staff ="basse" \basse
  >>

  \header {piece="\\pageBreak \\textit{\\textbf{Premier kyrie}
{pour tous les
instruments}}"}
  \layout {interscoreline = 0.0
interscorelinefill = 1.0
textheight= 28.0 \cm}
 }

 But the pagebreak doesn't work anymore.

I've tried another script, from the tip and tricks :

\version "2.4.0"
\header {title = "Title"}
pattern =  { a b c d }
\book {
\score {
  \context Staff  \relative c' {
  \pattern
 \pageBreak
 \pattern
  }
}
This one is OK

So I tried to put several score within a sigle book, with pagenreak between
them :
\version "2.4.0"
\header {title = "Title"}
pattern =  { a b c d }
\book {
\score {
  \context Staff  \relative c' {
\pattern
\pageBreak
 }
  }

\score {
  \context Staff  \relative c' {
  \pattern
}
}

This one doesn't wok.
It seems that \pagebreak works only inside the note block.

I'de like to know how to force a page break between different movements in the
book score, and not
within the notes themselves.

I must admit that on this point, the manual is not very helpfull for me...

Any help ?

In the articulations section of the lily manual I only see classical
music notation. The closest I can think of is the glissando, but in
jazz that symbol sometimes is often tied to only one note, either
leading to or from, and I would like to get that effect as well.
What I really need are the bends and falls, and gliss markings that
are more flexible.
I would really like to use Lilypond, but I may have to go back to
Finale if this not work out :(
Any suggestions? Will these markings be made available?

That's a slashed flag, not a slashed beam. Also, it's in the first
example you find if you look up the section on Grace Notes in the

It's hard to see from my point of view, but as far as I can tell the

But you're right... it seems that the standard \acciaccatura shows

Trill markings

2005-02-08 Thread Gordon Gilbert
Hey, folks!
I've been scouring the manual online for how to indicate a trill. Nothing
fancy, just a regular Bach trill within a Fugue, although I will have to
put it over/under the three voices.

might be played something like this:
{ f'16 g' f' g' a'32 g' a' g' a' g' f' g' a'16 g' a' bes' . }
but would be indicated with "tr" in place of those first 6 32nd notes.
Version 2.2.2 on FreeBSD -- can't get a newer version yet :-(
Can someone point me to the place in the manual, or otherwise, give me the
basic syntax?  Thanks.

Re: Slashed grace example

The closest I got was (2.4.2 on cygwin):

{
  \clef bass
  \relative c' {
\acciaccatura  { { des32\pp[ f ges des es fes ges] } } bes2
  }
}

But, that doesn't slash the beam like an \acciaccatura with a single
note would do...

Also, the 3rd and 4th notes are aligned strangely...

I'm not sure where the acciaccatura ends in you example. After the 3rd
note, or are all 7 notes included?

No problems with them gracenotes themselves (is this english?).
But I was asking for the slash.
All 7 notes are gracenotes. You can see some normal notes before.

I stand corrected! A 'flag' and a 'beam' are terms for the same part

It seems that the midi2ly program doesn't work at all in the
current Windows version.
If if would have worked, you should have used the Cygwin convention
for writing the path:
/cygdrive/c/Dokumente\ und\ Einstellungen/Besitzer/Eigene Dateien/My\
Music/WitchyWorld.mid
The same holds for any other program in Cygwin.

Re: String numbers in circles

2005-02-08 Thread Mats Bengtsson
I'd suspect your TeX installation. First of all, if you run lilypond
with the flag 'lilypond --verbose myfile.ly', you should get much
more information printed out that might help to sort out the problems.
Another test you could try is to save the following lines in a file
called tinytest.tex:
-
\documentclass[a4paper]{article}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\begin{document}
\tiny 1
\end{document}

Then, run the following commands:
latex tinytest.tex
dvips -Ppdf tinytest.dvi
The second command will probably produce a number of complaints
about "mismatched mode" and so, but should still produce a PS
file with a small 1 in it.

Ah, I see.
Yes, I'm using fink lilypond 2.4.2-2. If that same example fails
on your system (once you've upgraded to 2.4.2-2), then we have
a serious problem. If you're using 2.4.2-1 or below, then upgrade

Hi Graham,
I updated to 2.4.2-2 and it made no difference. I have a lot of packages

you have any ideas which package(s) might be responsible? Might it be a

Hi!

I would gladly add any kind of articulation you like, if you are
willing to donate some cash (paypal to [EMAIL PROTECTED]) to cover for

grave accent over the `u' in più

2005-02-08 Thread Albert Einstein
I have a problem with putting grave accent over the letter `u' in word più.
I have tryied:
a_\markup{\italic{più}} - letter ù from French keyboard and
a_\markup{\italic{pi\\`u}} as TeX encoding
but I got in first case error message:
warning: can't find ascii character: 249
and in second:
error: syntax error, unexpected $undefined:
c''8->\) r8 d''16[\( c''_\markup{\italic cresc.} b'_\markup{
   \\`u} c'']
When I add più in header as title in pdf u with circle over it is
displayed,
when I add pi\\`u in header as title it works -- I have ù in pdf.
It was tested on 2.4.2 version and my header is:
\header {
fontencoding = "T1"
inputencoding = "cp1250"

When I apply  in header
encoding = "TeX"
I still can't display ù via \\`u (a_\markup{\\`u})
and in title I can.???!

Hi,

I took a look, and I can do this for EUR 120 (or USD 150).

That would include

* A general script tunable to create for drop/fall/doit

(including canned input identifiers)

* Metafont scripts for standard bend, bend before and turn

* A curved glissando line

* Documentation and example file.

All this will be done on the 2.5 branch. If you want a backport to
2.4, that would cost an additional EUR 20 (USD 25). 2.6 will be
released in one to two months, hopefully.

Of course, you're welcome to garner some fellow sponsor to keep the
cost per person down.

Greetings,

Han-Wen

provide some money to cover for the development costs.

I assume that you're still looking for things you proposed in

Gee, I don't know... that seems a bit steep. I'm only a student, and
so my finances are not unlimited... note I can get Finale academic
edition for $300, Sibelius academic edition for $215.

I suppose the "features are being held up until someone pays for it"
model will mean a slower rate of development for Lilypond...

I suppose I will just use my school's computers and work with Finale
on those. I can always draw in the articulations by hand after I print
out the score from Lilypond anyway.

> Gee, I don't know... that seems a bit steep.

It isn't steep at all IMHO. If you implement such things carefully
you have to invest *a lot* of time, which makes an hourly rate of,
say, EUR 10.- or even less. A `professional' programmer working for a
company costs at least EUR 80.- per hour. Designing glyphs is very
time expensive, believe me.

I fully agree that it appears to be much money for a single person,
especially for students. Anyway, Han-Wen has to set priorities,
otherwise we would never see a new release.

> I suppose the "features are being held up until someone pays for it"
> model will mean a slower rate of development for Lilypond...

You are misinterpreting the issue. The features you are requesting
are not held up, they are just put into a very long queue of things
which would be nice to be implemented. Paying him shifts *your*
particular problem to the top so that it is handled (almost)
immediately.

Find two other people with the same interest, and you get what you
want for the cost of a good dinner for two -- or two seats for a good
concert.
