The only reservations that I have now is the figured bass. I have looked up several questions people have about this and found a variety of different figuring which does not seem to work well together. My questions are these: Proper alignment of figures eg. 7 #3 2 Itâs most important that the sharp on the three be on the left of the number and not on the right so as not to confuse a sharpened 3rd resolution after the current figures. I have tried several markups which never quite able to match these figures (the figured bass context is too weak to provide the complexity of some figured bass settings) The other question is the thin line representing a holding of the previous part of the figured bass. ie. Some or all of the previous chord is held. Eg. 5--- 7 b6 the thin line ( --- ) indicates that the 5th note should be held while adding the flattened 6th or 6 _ 5 indicating that the previous chord is to be heldâ. This can be held for either for the next bass notes or a series of bass notes. Does anyone have a full scheme/way of setting out a figured bass? Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Are there any plans to strengthen figured bass support? I would suggest that if there was then lilypond would possibly be the best notation package available being able to typeset all music. It might even rival SCORE (the mysterious notation package that only âbiggerâ music publishing firms can seem to get their hands on). ___ lilypond-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user ___ lilypond-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user

How do you do those blocks? Is lilypond-book going to be required for this? Yes, lilypond-book provides the best solution for that. However, from my experience singing in a choir, it's much more difficult to read the music typeset this way than when the lyrics of all verses is right below the music. 2. The lyrics seem to end up too close to the divider lines between bars in some cases. I'm thinking about bar 5, where "man-" ends up too close to the black line, and bar 6 for "night" does the same. Do I need to add space manually? Or is this the way people expect printed lyrics to look? (I'm really a fiddler and a piper, not a singer; this is my first experience with really caring about having to read the words.) Take a look at the example called "lyrics-bar.ly" in the Regression Tests document (in spite of its name, this document is an invaluable source of examples). /Mats ___ lilypond-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-user
Re: lilypond bombs on Mandrake 10 again
Maybe this helps: login as root on your computer and run the following commands: cd /usr/lib/ ln -s libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so.1.0.0 libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so (the mail reader may introduce line breaks, but the full command 'ln -s lib...so.1.0.0 lib...so' should be on the same line). This will add a soft link so that the file is known also under the name libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so, which seems to be what lilypond looks for. /Mats Sarah Cordish wrote: Why can't lilypond find the files it needs? Re: Vertical Spacing revisited
Lots have happened since version 2.3.11, especially when it comes to the page layout, so I definitely recommend to upgrade before you spend too much effort on tuning the performance of 2.3.11. Regarding your earlier questions on verticalExtent, you should visualize each context (Staff or Lyrics) in a rectangular box. The vertical extents of that box are determined by the verticalExtent, minimumVerticalExtent and extraVerticalExtent properties but also by by the contents of the context. For example, if you have a very high note with several ledger lines, it will increase the upper extent of the box (unless you have hard coded the extent using verticalExtent, which normally is a bad idea). The two numbers of the properties is just the vertical coordinate of the lower and upper bounds, relative to the center of the Staff or the base line of the lyrics, respectively. These *VerticalExtent properties are mainly useful to adjust the spacing between different staves of a score or between the staves and the lyrics. If you want to adjust the spacing between the full score lines, you should use the betweensystemspace and/or betweensystempadding properties (they used to be called something completely different in version 2.2 and earlier). /Mats Peter B. Steiger wrote: I finished that SATB score I was keying in last week when I said I had trouble getting the vertical spacing to work correctly, and now I see the problem. I should just say "wow!" here. I actually downloaded 2.3.22 last night, but due to an installation mistake on my part (copying over only existing 2.3.11 files rather than run the full make install script) I got several errors, and went back to 2.3.11. That should teach me not to try compiling a new build past midnight when I'm falling alseep at the keyboard. 2.3.22 works fine now that I'm fully conscious. Raggedbottom was exactly what I needed to stop the automatic vertical spacing to fill out the pages, and betweensystemspace is far more precise than my clumsy override of verticalextent. I'm also looking forward to playing with the other new layout toys. Once again, thanks - I mean, dank u wel! - to the Lilypond team. --- Peter B. Re: lilypond bombs on Mandrake 10 again
Hi, I had the same problems with Mandrake as well with some others but it seems that the latest Mandrake version of Lilypond installs everything fine but the problem is that it only makes lilypond only available to the root user. You can double check this by going to the the lilypond directory under KDE or GNOME and you'll see a padlock on this. The way to get this working is to become superuser (su) and change the permissions for the use of this folder. Trent From: Mats Bengtsson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: lilypond bombs on Mandrake 10 again Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2004 10:38:02 +0200 Maybe this helps: login as root on your computer and run the following commands: cd /usr/lib/ ln -s libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so.1.0.0 libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so (the mail reader may introduce line breaks, but the full command 'ln -s lib...so.1.0.0 lib...so' should be on the same line). This will add a soft link so that the file is known also under the name libguile-srfi-srfi-13-14-v-1.so, which seems to be what lilypond looks for. /Mats Sarah Cordish wrote: Why can't lilypond find the files it needs?
