At this point, do you see a prompt near the password input to log in with your
fingerprint?
If you do *not* see that, this is probably a duplicate of bug 499893

Otherwise, it's different. In this case, would you get system logs with
journalctl, starting about a minute before you see the fingerprint login fail?
Adjust the date and time accordingly, and use this command:

journalctl --since "2020-07-10 15:10:00"

Then save the output to a file and attach it to this report. Thanks!

[kwin] [Bug 501889] New: NVIDIA Driver 570.86.15 Breaks Wayland Display Restoration on RTX 4070 SUPER with Samsung G95SC - Fixed by Downgrading to 550

2025-03-22 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501889

Bug ID: 501889
Summary: NVIDIA Driver 570.86.15 Breaks Wayland Display
Restoration on RTX 4070 SUPER with Samsung G95SC -
Fixed by Downgrading to 550
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: core
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: eschoeller+...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

(also submitted to NVIDIA)

Description:

Under Wayland on Kubuntu 24.10 with NVIDIA driver 570.86.15, turning off and on
a Samsung G95SC monitor (connected via DisplayPort to an RTX 4070 SUPER)
results in a blank screen requiring a TTY switch (TTY3 → TTY1) to restore the
display. The same issue occurs when taking screenshots with Spectacle.
Downgrading to driver 550 (e.g., 550.54.14) resolves both problems, with the
display and screenshots working normally.

Environment:

OS: Kubuntu 24.10 (Plasma 6, Wayland session)
Kernel: [Insert your kernel version, e.g., uname -r output like
6.11.0-9-generic]
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
Driver: 570.86.15 (broken), downgraded to 550 (fixed)
Monitor: Samsung G95SC (OLED, likely 5120x1440 @ 240Hz), DisplayPort connection
Compositor: KWin (Wayland)
Steps to Reproduce:

Boot into a Wayland session on Kubuntu 24.10 with NVIDIA driver 570.86.15.
Connect an RTX 4070 SUPER to a Samsung G95SC via DisplayPort.
Turn the monitor off, then back on after a few seconds.
Result: Blank screen, monitor enters "no signal" countdown. Switching to TTY3
and back to TTY1 restores the display.
Alternatively, open Spectacle and take a screenshot.
Result: Same blank screen, same TTY workaround needed.
Expected Behavior:

Monitor should wake immediately with the desktop visible after being turned
back on.
Screenshots with Spectacle should complete without blanking the display.
Actual Behavior:

With driver 570.86.15, monitor reconnection fails (blank screen, "no signal"
countdown).
Spectacle screenshots trigger the same blank screen.
Logs show Qt apps creating "fake screens" and Wayland globals dropping (e.g.,
qt.qpa.wayland: Creating a fake screen in order for Qt not to crash, foot:
warn: wayland.c:1467: unknown global removed).
Logs (from 570.86.15):

Mar 22 16:54:20 hexoid plasmashell[3846]: qt.qpa.wayland: Creating a fake
screen in order for Qt not to crash
Mar 22 16:55:21 hexoid foot[4011]: warn: wayland.c:1467: unknown global
removed: 0x0045
Mar 22 16:55:22 hexoid kernel: workqueue: nv_drm_handle_hotplug_event
[nvidia_drm] hogged CPU for >1us 4 times
(Full logs available if needed—fake screen messages repeat, hotplug warnings
occasional.)

Resolution:

Downgraded to NVIDIA driver 550 (e.g., 550.54.14 via sudo apt install
nvidia-driver-550).
After reboot, monitor wakes instantly, and Spectacle screenshots work without
issues.
Additional Notes:

Tested with nvidia-drm.modeset=1 in GRUB (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet
splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1"); reduced hotplug warnings but didn’t fix the
issue.
X11 session (Plasma X11) works perfectly with 570.86.15—no blank screen on
monitor wake or screenshots.
Suspect a regression in 570.86.15’s Wayland hotplug/output handling with KWin.
Request:

Please investigate driver 570.86.15’s Wayland compatibility with high-res
monitors like the Samsung G95SC.
Confirm if this is a known issue or fixed in a later release (post-570.86.15).

[digikam] [Bug 501834] Scanning a Directory also reads top tree

> Only the current album folder is executed during a refresh (reading the

>

>
> Maik

No, there are no symbolic links. The album is accessed over a network share
(served via samba on debian 12), digikam is running on Windows 11.
I did the following test, using one top folder with 578 subfolders (all album
folders have been read into the database before):

1. Remove all subfolders except one empty one
2. Populate the remaining subfolder with 100 images
3. Execute "Refresh" on the subfolder

Result:

The refresh took about 10 Minutes, and digikam now displays only the one
remaining subfolder, having removed all the other ones.
So digikam is operating on the other album folders, at least reading the
directory/file structure.

[valgrind] [Bug 501850] FreeBSD syscall arguments 7 and 8 incorrect.

2025-03-22 Thread Paul Floyd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501850

I wrote a little test based on scalar

#include "scalar.h"

int main(void)
{
   SY(SYS_sendfile, 1000, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8);

   return(0);
}

I can comment out the sfMayBlock - the syscall will fail so no question of
blocking. That allows me to test both VG_(do_syscall) and
ML_(do_syscall_for_client_WRK).

On arm64 I get the right arguments in ktrace in both cases.

On both x86 and amd64 ML_(do_syscall_for_client_WRK) (with sfMayBlock) both
look OK.

On x86 VG_(do_syscall) (without sfMayBlock) looks OK

On amd64 VG_(do_syscall) (without sfMayBlock) looks bad

 74122 memcheck-amd64-free CALL
sendfile(0x3e8,0x2,0x3,0x4,0x5,0x6,0x8<>8)

That last argument should be 7.

If I reverse the stack offsets used for a7 and a8 in do_syscall_WRK then I get
good results.

if the video stops playing, the session stops hanging, so, using a shortcut to
quit the application playing video has been an effective workaround.
Interestingly, only some types of video seem to cause a problem for me. I don't
have issues with Youtube or Netflix in firefox (flatpak), but watching a
discord screen share (flatpak), I'm getting the same message being logged to
journalctl accompanied with my desktop freezing.

This issue appeared after a very recent system update on Arch Linux with an AMD

[kwin] [Bug 501860] New: Maximized window drawn too big, covered by panel.

2025-03-22 Thread Jeff Brown
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501860

Bug ID: 501860
Summary: Maximized window drawn too big, covered by panel.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: git-stable-Plasma/5.27
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Quick Tiling
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jeffbrown@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Caveat: This looks a lot like the following bug which is marked fixed:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348043
But I'm running 5.27 in 2025 and that bug report is attached to version 5.3 and
dated to the year 2015, which makes me believe this is a different problem
(although perhaps with the same result).

Two apps I use -- Firefox and Telegram -- have exhibited the same problematic
behavior: When I maximize them (Super-Pageup) they are drawn so large that
their bottom portion is obscured by the Panel (if Panel is the right term for
the skinny bar with app icons at the bottom of the screen that's visible
outside of an app's full-screen mode).

SUMMARY
In previous releases of digikam when a tag is dragged to a different tag the
user has the choice of moving, or merging, the tag with the target tag.
In this version the tag is inserted in the tag tree below the tag to which it
was dragged.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. select a tag
2. drag the tag to another tag
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
I have a number of duplicate tags, which I usually fix by dragging one tag to
the correct tag. The dragged tag is now placed below the target tag, which just
moves the duplication.
i.e.
Places
  Kent
Deal*
East Kent
  Deal
The starred tag is in the wrong place. When it is dragged to the other tag with
the same name the result is:-
Places
  Kent
East Kent
  Deal
 Deal

EXPECTED RESULT
The option to merge, or move, tags as in previous versions of digikam.
Resulting in:-

[plasmashell] [Bug 501867] New: secondary width and height should be different config and shown always in Panel Settings , don't change the dialog, grey out

2025-03-22 Thread Unknown
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501867

Bug ID: 501867
Summary: secondary width and height should be different config
and shown always in Panel Settings , don't change the
dialog, grey out
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.3
  Platform: Manjaro

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: myusualnickn...@gmail.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I couldn't find Panel width for a second when I put the panel on the left.
I found it, but it is a different style.

It makes sense to show Width and Height always in the same spots, but greyed
out or some indication that the setting is used differently if the window in
horizontal or vertical mode.

I do not want a tall panel when it is on the bottom, but I do want a wide panel
when it is on the side.
It would make sense to have Panel Width and Panel Height both be both shown
all the time, but have the one that is active shown as such.

Dialogs and interfaces that change are an obstruction to usability.
and or, show in the title that the Panel is a Vertical panel or a horizontal
panel

Primary Length is the one that has the fancy shrink and fill logic on.

I know there are names for these things in configurations, so there may be one
setting that is used different ways, Then show it twice until the next major
revision, or add a config option that overrules the single setting.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501875] New: KDE crashing after logging in

2025-03-22 Thread Kristijan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501875

Bug ID: 501875
Summary: KDE crashing after logging in
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kristijan.pint...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

Hello! It's quite late at night so I honestly didn't want to try debugging too
much, however after an update my Dolphin file manager and the desktop all of a
sudden crashed and after rebooting I couldn't login to the desktop (SDDM works
though) and when going to run "kstart5 plasmashell" in TTY it says:

qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: From 6.5.0, xcb-cursor0 or libxcb-cursor0 is needed to load Qt
xcb platform plugin.
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it
was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be
initialized. Reinstall the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: vnc, vkkhrdisplay, eglfs, xcb, wayland,
minimal, offscreen, linuxfb, minimalegl, wayland-egl.

I use the open-dkms-nvidia drivers, SDDM, and Wayland. Any ideas on how to fix
it without having to reinstal Plasma? Thanks, sorry for the grammar errors or
for the question having an easy answer, it's quite late.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update system
2. Reboot
3. Login to the account using SDDM

OBSERVED RESULT
With Wayland it crashes instantly (A black screen that returns to SDDM), with
X11 Discord opens up with nothing else working (Alt+F2 opens window, but it
doesn't run anything)

EXPECTED RESULT
The desktop working as expected with the wallpaper, applications, and else
working.

Total: 16163 tests generated
Total: 16142 insns verified
Total: 4 disassembly mismatches
Total: 21 specification exceptions

This disasm-test was using objdump 2.38 under the covers.
The mismatches are due to a bug in binutils which has been fixed in the
meantime.
The specification exceptions occur because not all opcode constraints can be
expressed in the test generator.

With objdump from current git af829d8b8d5bb0ce658bbad6d33f69dcb534343b there
are many miscompares
most of which are of this kind:

*** mismatch VEX: |bih 1(%r11,%r0)| objdump: |bih 1(%r11,0)|

i.e. GPR #0 as base register is now disassembled as 0, formerly %r0.
Other miscompares are for the R*SBG family of opcodes.

[Skanpage] [Bug 501877] New: Resolution should not be reset when switching from ADF to flatbed and viceversa

2025-03-22 Thread Sergio

  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: a.stipp...@gmx.net
  Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When switching from ADF to flatbed, the resolution is currently reset to the
minimal available value. For instance, with my HP multifunction printer,
switching from ADF to flatbed and viceversa causes the resolution to be reset
to 75DPI.

In 99.99% of cases this is not what is wanted. The minimal resolution is
typically useless for anything apart from quick previews.

Switching from ADF to flatbed and viceversa should *retain* the current
resolution. In case the current resolution is not available in the new mode,
the resolution should be changed to the closest available resolution.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a resolution
2. Switch from ADF to flatbed or viceversa

OBSERVED RESULT

The resolution is reset to the minimal available value

EXPECTED RESULT

The resolution should not change or change to the closest available value

Correction - I had things reversed. NFS functions normally, SMB does not.
Corrected the title, here are revised repro steps etc.

SUMMARY
Prior too 6.12, folder previews displayed normally for SMB shares. Updating to
6.12, previews do not show. NFS shares continue to function normally.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Check "show previews for folders" in settings in Dolphin
2. Set file preview size to some large number (1GB)
3. Mount a SMB share, eg: sudo mount -t cifs -o
credentials=/home/user/.creds,uid=user,exec,mfsymlinks //192.168.1.10/Share
/mnt/Share/
4. Create a folder.
5. Put photos in the folder

OBSERVED RESULT
Folder shows with no previews on it. File thumbnails function normally.

NFS shares continue to work normally.

EXPECTED RESULT
Folder previews work.

Unfortunately, these new atom types introduced by Apple for classical music are
not supported by mp4v2. You have to disable the Mp4v2Metadata plugin so that
TaglibMetadata is used for MP4 files, TagLib supports more atom types, however,
it does not support MP4 chapters, which is probably the reason why you have
Mp4v2Metadata activated. That is also the reason why "Movement Number" can't be
typed in - it is not supported. You can type in anything, but then you will get
a free form atom, as you experienced.
So this is not a bug in Kid3. If you want to see support for more atoms in
mp4v2, you will have to file a bug or pull request at
https://github.com/enzo1982/mp4v2.

Some notes:

* Definitely a 6.3 regression here.
* This applies to any persistent notifications, e.g. from Merkuro Calendar or
websites in Chrome (I think
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Notification/requireInteraction
is the flag).
* Notifications remember that they should reposition when hovered.
* The bug has more symptoms: if I get a persistent notification on session
startup, it's displayed on the left side of the screen, not the right one where
the system tray is, until I move my mouse cursor over it. My guess is that it
also jumped before 6.3, but without my interaction.

I am sure this is a bug because it makes using the computer so much harder.

I used to have the panel showing, and unhide if I moved my cursor over it. It
made for a perfectly discoverable and get-out-of-the-way panel. I always
configured my KDE4 panels this way.

This was a premiere feature and was a reason to use KDE.

If it is unmaintained, what does it take to make it maintained?

SUMMARY
When you have a lot of tabs open, it would be helpful if a single ctrl+tab
keyboard action would change to the last used tab rather than (as currently)
the tab to the right. A popup like Kate uses for ctrl+tab would be perfect.
Ctrl+pageup and ctrl+pagedown would continue to be available to change tabs in
tab order.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin
2. Open many tabs
3. Click on tab 5
4. Click on tab 2
5. Press ctrl+tab

OBSERVED RESULT
Tab 3 is activated.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tab 5 is activated.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250320
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.6-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It would be nice if this could be standardised over all KDE apps, so maybe this
could be implemented at a framework level. Kate works as desired. Konsole sort
of does, although it doesn't show the popup selector that Kate shows (instead,
it immediately changes to the tab, but at least it does so in most recently
used order). Dolphin and Okular (when the latter has been configured to open
new files in tabs) always use tab order for ctrl-tab. I haven't checked other
tab-using KDE apps.

[kmymoney] [Bug 501597] Reports not work in Master

2025-03-22 Thread Brendan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501597

I think you found the reason the reports tab shows up but is not working
correctly on one system. It appears that on that system an old version was not
uninstalled back in October. So the real question is why isn't it being created
on any of my systems. When I compile a new version and install it, the first
thing my script does is uninstall from the previously installed build.
Something must have gone wrong with the process on that one system. That's
about the time I was able to get the master to compile and install so that
might be a 5.1 file. I wonder what else may be left behind.

System with reports (note that I compile in /usr/local/src/kmm/ so the build

2025-03-22 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501878

Bug ID: 501878
Summary: "Add Clip or Folder" arrow button does not show the
drop-down menu of other options consistently
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.12.3
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface & Miscellaneous
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: convent_virtuous...@aleeas.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The "Add Clip or Folder" arrow button does not show the usual drop-down menu of
other options like "Add Title Clip". Instead, it will add the usual colored
highlight. Only once out of about 99 clicks of the button would actually work.
I could not find what was it that made the drop-down menu appear properly.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the kdenlive flatpak in Fedora 41 Workstation
2. Open the application
3. Click on the "Add Clip or Folder" arrow button.

OBSERVED RESULT
The button changes color to indicate it has been clicked, but the drop-down
menu does not appear.

EXPECTED RESULT
The button changes color to indicate it has been clicked, and the drop-down
menu of other options like "Add Title Clip" appears.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Fedora 41

Qt Version: 6.8.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This happens regardless if there are already clips in the project bin.

[kde] [Bug 501879] New: Memory Leak with Kioworker

2025-03-22 Thread Leona
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501879

Bug ID: 501879
   Summary: Memory Leak with Kioworker
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: zee...@zeebie.net
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
There appears to be a memory leak in the kioworker process that causes
increasing memory usage over time without it being released, impacting system
performance until targeted by OOM Killer and terminated

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Use Dolphin to perform file system operations, specifically accessing SMB
shares and performing searches for specific files.

Monitor the memory usage of the kioworker process using a system monitor tool
like htop or top.

Observe the increasing memory consumption by kioworker that is not released
even after tasks are completed.

OBSERVED RESULT
The kioworker process steadily consumes more memory over time without releasing
it, leading to a noticeable memory leak.

EXPECTED RESULT
The kioworker process should release memory after completing its task,
maintaining stable memory usage without excessive growth.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Garuda Linux
KDE Plasma Version: plasmashell 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The issue is primarily observed during regular file operations in Dolphin while
accessing networked shares via SMB.

Memory leak is not immediately apparent but becomes noticeable after extended
usage.

The process does not seem to release memory after completing tasks like file
transfers or searches.

Git commit 94048faba57ad8d51be7db36d51fd2495ecf53b1 by Vlad Zahorodnii.
Committed on 21/03/2025 at 06:15.
Pushed by vladz into branch 'master'.

Combine tile modes when tiling via arrow keys

It takes some effort for the human processing unit (aka brain) to combine
quarter tile modes with other tile modes.

This change allows only half tile modes to be combined with other modes,
it is easier to comprehend and it produces fewer unexpected results.

Actually, upon doing some further testing, it turns out this has nothing to do
with Okular. The icons are indeed centred with the default Breeze style. It
only seems to occur when using a different application style (specifically
Klassy) so the bug is down to a third-party project rather than KDE.

I suppose this can be closed then. My bad. Though I still think displaying both
the icon and the label when there is enough space for it (like in Gwenview)
would be a worthwhile addition.
