2025-03-05 Thread Thomas Bertels
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501129

Bug ID: 501129
Summary: When extracting a file, the name field should be
pre-filled
Classification: Applications
   Product: ark
   Version: 24.12.2
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: usability
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: elvis.angelac...@kde.org
  Reporter: tbert...@gmail.com
CC: rthoms...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If the user extracts a file from an archive (either because the archive
contains only one file or because only one file is selected), Ark should
pre-fill the Name field with the name of that file.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an archive
2a. (archive with only one file) Click on "Extract to..."
2a. (archive with multiple files) Select a file and click on "Extract to..." or
right a file and select "Extract to..."

OBSERVED RESULT
The Name field of the Extract window is blank.

EXPECTED RESULT
The Name field of the Extract window should contain the name of the (selected)
file.

1. That would take a new screenshot, where the screen content might have
changed from the original screenshot.

2. Personally, I use the rectangular mode as the single entry point for all
Spectacle functions (never managed to remember all different shortcuts). So I'd
prefer doing everything in the same UI, instead of some in a different "viewer"
UI.

Can mark this as fixed.

So the issue was an empty org.kde.plasmashell.desktop in my
.config/applications folder ultimately causing plasmashell to be launched
without its X-KDE-Wayland-Interfaces= variable set seems to be what was up.
Upon deletion of blank file everything works as expected.

I just upgraded an OpenSUSE Tumbleweed desktop from the 550 to 570.124 and I'm
now experiencing this issue.

I've managed to workaround the issue by using Jean's suggestion. I replaced
kscreenlocker_greet with a script:

mv /usr/libexec/kscreenlocker_greet /usr/libexec/kscreenlocker_greet.dist

application. But if you go back to the same text in the clipboard history after
a while (click on the entry and make it relevant), then the non-English text
message is replaced by an escape sequence. For example, this is how the
inserted text with Ukrainian and English characters looks like:
```
Test \u0442\u0435\u0441\u0442
```
At the same time, the text is displayed normally in the Clipboard History. When
you click "Edit", the text is also displayed normally, but when pasted, the
escape sequence is replaced.
This behavior appeared after yesterday's Manjaro update.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy text with Cyrillic characters.
2. Copy another text.
3. Go back to the original text in the clipboard History.
4. Insert it into any application.

OBSERVED RESULT
The text has been replaced with an escape sequence

EXPECTED RESULT
Behavior as before the update

[kde] [Bug 501127] New: drkonqi/related unable to handle/save core dumps

2025-03-05 Thread Ned
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501127

Bug ID: 501127
Summary: drkonqi/related unable to handle/save core dumps
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: nedretherbr...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 179166
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=179166&action=edit
Ned's output from journalctl --follow durring the Minecraft launcher core dump

SUMMARY
I was experiencing an issue with the Minecraft launcher not working, so I
wanted to see what I could find with `journalctl --follow` and what I found was
that it tried to save many core dumps, none successful.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. run `journalctl --follow` in Konsole/other terminal
2. crash a program/trigger a core dump

OBSERVED RESULT
Please check the attachment.

EXPECTED RESULT
I was hoping to get a log, something I could put on Mojira (Minecraft's bug
reporting system). I was going to go into the path shown in journalctl --follow
and take a look and share that if it looked useful. But the locations given
were non-existent. Even after running cat under sudo.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.5-zen1-1-zen (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please check my attachment for the resultant `journalctl --follow` output.

[plasmashell] [Bug 500955] NVIDIA dGPU with RTD3 support could not be turned off due to plasmashell using the GPU in Wayland session

2025-03-05 Thread Sam Duan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500955

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> Is there an integrated GPU on the system that Plasmashell could use instead?

Being a laptop, there is an Intel iGPU available. I have checked intel_gpu_top,
kwin_wayland runs on the iGPU, but the dGPU is still occupied.
BTW, I have used supergfxctl to fully shutdown the dGPU, and when I switched
from iGPU only to hybrid mode with it and loged off just now for some testing,
the dGPU seemed not to be occupied in a new Plasma session without the panels
loaded.

[plasmashell] [Bug 375943] With non-grouped windows, audio icon shown on all windows sharing a PID and parent program, not just the window actually playing sound

2025-03-05 Thread pallaswept
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375943

> I wonder if we should consider just removing the audio badge functionality
> entirely. If it simply can't be made to work accurately, it's something
> people can't rely on and therefore not something we should be implicitly
> promising by making available.

I mean you're not wrong it is kinda busted but... It works for most apps, and
even on those where it's inaccurate, I still find it useful. We get a quick,
per-application ID and mute button either way. It would be nice if we also got
it per-window, but I still think it's worth keeping without that. I understand
the replies above see the entire feature as useless, but obviously their
use-case is 'identify which window from this one app is playing the sound'
where it is still useful for 'identify which application is playing the sound'.

> If the issue is essentially impossible to fix with the relevant software
> stack's current technical infrastructure,

I spent a lot of hours testing different apps' behaviours but it made for a
very long reply, so if you want those details feel free to quiz me.

It seems like this is mostly a firefox and chrome thing, and is fixable on
firefox. Chrome looks hopeless, there's very little metadata to work with.
Media streams are all just called "playback". But if they did set some
identifiable metadata, it could work.

I guess the 'correct' thing is to use the APIs of the sound servers. Kai
mentioned in the first comment there pulse's window.id and now pipewire has
application.id natively and supports the pulse stuff as well.
https://freedesktop.org/software/pulseaudio/doxygen/proplist_8h.html#a9fdf6146c8c9f1a5bf2bae0f5ac15c80
https://docs.pipewire.org/group__pw__keys.html#ga7e7975fdc1d4879492d18bd5737fc7d7

If task manager used that method, it'd at least be reasonable to say "well we
support it, now it's up to your app, closed downstream". That seems to go
really well with my case manager hat ;) I noticed in the past few hours
testing, examples of applications which already set this property, are kded,
kdeconnectd and libcanberra

It seems very rare, though, and even those which set it don't appear to be
window-specific. It may be technically correct and theoretically perfect, but
given lack of application support, it's probably the least-functional approach
in reality. So even if Task Manager did this, it would be nice to have a
fallback to the per-application behaviour we have now, or maybe an enhanced
version which matches other more specific stream metadata beyond application
name/pid/binary name/etc, like grabbing media.name to specify firefox tabs.

Trying to think of alternatives to those approaches, if keeping the promise is
the goal, perhaps a graphical approach to an audio problem... sound icons which
play from a different PID to the window shown, could be marked somehow. Y'know
like something that communicates, 'this sound icon is different to the others,
that sound could be from any of these windows, so if you click it, we mute them
all'. Something like a chain-link badge on the icons, to indicate they are
'linked'?

So yeh TLDR it is kinda broken, and kinda fixable but also kinda only in
theory... but it's still good. Pls no delete mute icon.

[NeoChat] [Bug 501124] New: User count is wrong in several ways

2025-03-05 Thread Justin Zobel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501124

Bug ID: 501124
Summary: User count is wrong in several ways
Classification: Applications
   Product: NeoChat
   Version: git master
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: fe...@posteo.de
  Reporter: jus...@kde.org
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu, j...@redstrate.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I joined a new room in NeoChat.
Under the "Member (0)" list it shows 3 users including myself.
In the "Members" top-most header it sas there is "1 member"
If I look at this channel in Element their website it is 19, the matrix.to link
shows 19 and Fluffy Chat on my Android phone shows 19.

As I was typing this out (roughly 3 minutes after joining the room) the members
list changed to the correct value of 19.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Join a room
2. Compare user count to other clients

OBSERVED RESULT
Incorrect user count

EXPECTED RESULT
Correct user count a lot sooner on joining a room

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
NeoChat: 25.03.70
KDE Flatpak runtime (Wayland)
libQuotient: 0.10.0 (built against 0.10.0)
KDE Frameworks: 6.11.0
Qt: Using 6.8.2 and built against 6.8.2
Build ABI: x86_64-little_endian-lp64
Kernel: linux 6.13.5-arch1-1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I imagine this is caused by NeoChat fetching room information such as user list
and user count separate to the actual joining of a room. This obviously delays
the information being received. Perhaps NeoChat should show an [i]
(informmation icon) instead in those areas and when users hover or click on it,
it advises them that the room information is still being popuplated from the
remote server.

Unknown Error when canceling export and overwrite

Krita displays an Unknown Error message when canceling an export and overwrite
dialogue. Tested with krita-5.3.0-prealpha-b22ece9db2-x86_64.AppImage
(2025-03-06). I began to notice the issue around late February.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Export a PNG
2) Choose an existing filename
3) When asked about overwriting, click Yes
4) Cancel exporting on the next dialogue

Krita then shows an error message: "Could not start saving PATH. Unknown
failure has happened." A screenshot of this error is attached.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501126] New: Keyboard being detected as a game controller

2025-03-05 Thread David
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501126

Bug ID: 501126
Summary: Keyboard being detected as a game controller
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: david.baked...@passinbox.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

My keyboard shows up in the "Game Controller" section of System Settings, with
the first axis reporting a constant -32768 (left stick all the way left). Some
games like "Heroes of Hammerwatch" detect this input and you get stuck walking
left forever.

The only 2 keyboards I have tested this issue with are both ZSA-brand split
keyboards running QMK firmware: an "Ergodox EZ" and a "Moonlander".

For me the Ergodox is shown in the Game Controller dropdown as "ZSA Technology
Labs Ergodox EZ System Control" in /dev/input/event21

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Have a keyboard plugged in via USB (possibly ZSA keyboards specifically) and
NO game controller connected
2. Go to System Settings > Game Controller
3. Check the dropdown at the top of the settings panel

OBSERVED RESULT

The keyboard is found listed as a game controller with "Axes 1" reporting
-32768

EXPECTED RESULT

The keyboard shouldn't be detected as a Game Controller

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: NixOS 25.05
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.5 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × Intel® Core™ i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

There is a Reddit thread where a few people have reported similar issues:
https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1iqfqss/kde_thinks_my_keyboard_is_a_gamepad/.

I'm running NixOS unstable, rolling back to a previous version fixes the issue
(no keyboard shown in "Game Controller" and no stuck moving left issues)

I don't currently have a non-ZSA keyboard to test this with but the above
reddit thread shows a "ProjectD" keyboard which also uses appears to use QMK
firmware.

[plasmashell] [Bug 436318] Implement real session save/restore on Wayland

2025-03-05 Thread devsk
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436318

(In reply to Patrick O'Callaghan from comment #205)
>
> So this patch has actually nothing to do with session restore. I'd suggest
> posting it somewhere else to avoid confusion.

Yes. I don't think anybody cares about flipping the gestures behavior. I will
keep this patch around.

> I've had a quick look at your scripts but haven't tried them. They seem
> quite complicated, but maybe they do more than mine. I've taken note of how
> you use 'kdotool windowmove' and have added this to my own scripts (don't
> know why I hadn't noticed this before :-). I'll upload them shortly (still
> not very familiar with Gist to be honest).

Yes. My script does do way more..:-) It saves a lot more information in a
format which is easily read in bash. Then, it starts all the apps and waits for
the user to ack the restoration process which restores their desktop, position
and size.

I had to add a lot of code for robustness e.g. some random processes make their
way into 'kdotool search' when they don't have a real window associated with
them e.g. plasmashell.

For example, restoring from X11 to wayland, the window class changes from
konsole to org.kde.konsole.

For example, the size and location on wayland are floating point numbers
sometimes, which was not apparent until wayland locked up on creating a window
with 0 size with infinite memory allocation loop and got killed by OOM.

For example, if you saved session from a crontab periodically, kdotool just
doesn't find any windows because crontab does not have access to the user
environment to access the DBUS.

Lots of accounting for quirks.

Component: Desktop icons & Folder View widget
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: pallasw...@proton.me

SUMMARY

When I log into my PC, normally, the cursor is sitting at the centre of the
primary display. Since 6.3, I noiced that the cursor is slightly off centre to
the right.

I posted about this on the discuss forum, and another user had noticed the
same, but offset to the left.

It seems the initial position of the cursor is offset in the direction of the
second display?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have two displays
2. Login
3. Observe cursor position before touching the mouse

OBSERVED RESULT
Cursor is off-centre in the direction of the secondary display

EXPECTED RESULT
Cursor is centred

[krita] [Bug 501095] New: zoom

2025-03-05 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501095

Bug ID: 501095
   Summary: zoom
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.2.9
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
Component: Tablets (tablet issues are only very rarely bugs in
Krita!)
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: justine.gourd...@hotmail.fr
  Target Milestone: ---

Hello,

I download today the new version of Krita (my latest was 5.1.5) and I can't
zoom in any more, I can only zoom out with the scroll wheel on my tablet. It
works on other software and it worked on the previous version of Krita 10
minutes before, but on this version it's impossible. I have to use my mouse
every time, which is very restrictive for my work.
I don't know if it's the same problem with the other tablets.

I use an XP PEN Artist 10Pro, with the latest software.

[Spectacle] [Bug 458959] Overwrite already-saved screenshot when explicitly saving after annotating while using the "After taking screenshot, save file to default folder" setting

Wanted to file a bug about screenshot naming behavior for annotated images and
got redirected here.

I always use "Save As" for annotated images and I've noticed that the "Save As"
dialog will suggest as filename the very string defined in "Configure Spectacle
-> Image Saving -> Filename:" e.g. `Screenshot__`
instead of say 'Screenshot_20250121_113120' IF the image has been modified by
Spectacle's own editor.

The behavior is odd if not a plain bug because the very same "Save As" dialog,
when invoked from the same Spectacle window but WITHOUT any annotation done,
will suggest the filename with the placeholders correctly replaced by actual
values.

Is it the same problem or I should open a separate issue for this?

Yep, the problem still exists.

I doubt it's related to the other bug report though. On a desktop system the

[kde] [Bug 501087] New: applications are started twice (or third)

2025-03-05 Thread Hans-J. Ullrich
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501087

Bug ID: 501087
Summary: applications are started twice (or third)
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: hans.ullr...@loop.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Dear developers,

there is s a little issue with KDE I want to tell you.

It is not easy to describe, but please let me try::
When you have some application running, that got in its settings an option like
"start with windowmanager" and this is activated, then this will be started as
usual.

As you know, KDE (plasma) also has the option, to save the actual state of
running, and restore it at restart.
BUT: When, you do this with such running applications, then at next start of
KDE, those aplications are started twice, one because its own settings, the
other because of KDE`s setting. This should not happen.

A workaround is, stopping these applications and save state again, but that is
of course not the comfortable way.

Applications with this behaviour for this are for example keepassxc, kmail,
barrier, telegram or signal. There are probably more.

Although some applications got the option in theire setting "start only a
single instance", there are two of them running (check with keepassxc).

I can not say, which part is responsible for this, but it would be nice, if you
could take an eye on it.

Thank you very much! (And also for such great windowmanager!)

Best regards

Hans

Hah, I clicked reply, closed the tab, saw the code in the next tab, and went
"wait, that's not an XOR". I probably should have read the actual code and not
just the comment, I'm sorry. It's an OR, not an XOR, so it sets the bit, rather
than flips it. Sorry for rushing that one. I was honestly a bit distracted :)

[plasmashell] [Bug 501088] New: Black Screens Both Login and Desktop Triplehead.

2025-03-05 Thread Myc
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501088

Bug ID: 501088
Summary: Black Screens Both Login and Desktop Triplehead.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: myccl...@outlook.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Triple head displays are blank on login screen and desktop. Used to work
before updates. No hardware changes. Unplugging and plugging back in displays
causes them to work again for that session.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot PC See boot logo on all three displays
2. Login Screen Black except for static cursor in top left. Unplug display,
the other two come on, plug back in, all three on. Log in.
3. All three black again, repeat unplug display, the other two come on, plug
back in, all three on.

OBSERVED RESULT
The displays are blank. They are on and displaying only black. Unplugging one
display, doesn't matter which one, will cause the other two to show the login
screen or desktop depending on step. Plugging that display back in all three
displays show the login screen or desktop.

EXPECTED RESULT
All three displays show the login screen or desktop like they did before.

I haven't had the time to manually set everything in the system settings again.
So I'm saying that just the default as not as good as it could've been.

Thank you for letting me know where it's stored. I can now use a simple command
to restore it.

Yes, the entries in the file get truncated. Additionally, there's a comment
saying that it was changed by "xdg-user-dirs-update".
