[JPP-Devel] CVS and NSIS

2006-07-18 Thread steve . tanner
Hello,
To my opinion, better stay with CVS, it works fine! (However, since I am
not involved any more, the decision is not mine!).
Regarding NSIS scripts for generating the installer, I repeat that EVERYTHNIG
necessary is already in the CVS, under the /installer folder. Here you will
find all the explanations (there is a instructions.txt file) for re-generating
a new installer.
I used the NSIS plugin for Eclipse to generate the NSIS script.
PIROL have also a nice experience with NSIS, including the automatic generation
of a new installer, if someone would like to include it in the ant script
to automatize the generation of the win32 installer, this would be great!
Have a nice summer
Steve

Re: [JPP-Devel] Installer Script and Ant Build File

2006-07-20 Thread steve . tanner
Hello Sunburned Surveyor!!
Sorry for being late to answer... regarding the NSIS installer script used
to generate the installer version 1.0.1, it is in the CVS under:
/installer/1.0.1
You will also find there the other files which have been used for creating
the installer, as well as an "instruction.txt" file.
Best regards,
Steve

Re: [JPP-Devel] Sample Data

2006-08-22 Thread Steve Tanner
Hello Landon,
I put some sample data prepared by Stefan Steiniger in the last OpenJump
1.0.1 installer, as well as another sample set from Germany.
Of course, the content can be changed in the future, the idea was just
to have something to play with for a newbie, and to show some of the
possibilities of OJ.
best regards,
Steve

[JPP-Devel] Some comments about Wiki and CVS and plugin hosting

2006-08-22 Thread Steve Tanner
Hello,
Although I am not that much involved any more, I would however make some
comments:
- A new wiki? The existing one is good. Why to change?
- Going from CVS to Subversion? Why? CVS is more than sufficient, and is
working since May 2005. Why all these efforts to change? You may loose
in the process the motivation of the members who contribute to CVS if
you change the system... CVS is working equally good with Eclipse and
other IDE, the only difficulty is to configure your client, but the
difficulty is absolutely the same with Subversion.
- About preventing Plugin Chaos, this is a very good idea... I had
proposed a long time ago to host the plugin code on the same CVS. I
created new modules, but only Stefan (to my knowledge) used that
possibility. I think that you should try again to motivate people to
port their plugin code to the CVS, this is the easiest solution.
Everything already exists.

In the CVS, there exists NOW the following structure:

/openjump (module)

/ExtensionManagerPlugin (module)

/MapGenToolboxPlugin (module)
   /lib
   /src

/PostGISDriverPlugin (module)

/PrintLayoutPlugin (module)

/RasterImagePlugin (module)
   /src

These modules can be used to host the plugin code. Easy!

NOTE: Sourceforge have changed in July the policy to access CVS. Now,
the jump-pilot CVS can be accessed with these parameters:
:ssh:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/jump-pilot

If you were working with a client and cannot find the way to change the
settings (mainly the root parameter) you need to edit your "root" file
in the CVS (hidden) folder, and replace:
:ssh:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/jump-pilot
by
ssh:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/jump-pilot

Best regards,
Steve

Re: [JPP-Devel] italian translation

2006-08-22 Thread Steve Tanner
Dear Danilo,
I am very pleased to hear that someone is interested in doing the
translation of Jump in italian!
Having in charge the internationalization process in the past, I have
worked with one people who began the translation, but for some reason he
did not publish it.

October 15th, 2004:

   Hello! :-)
Absolutely yes. A week ago we developed an internal release
(so the italian translation seems complete...) and we deploy
   an internal release.

OK, I'll call the architects to have some news (they are using
the program to tell me any problem, amazingly they are
   enthusiastic!!!).
So also if I didn't translate all of the keys (some seems never
used) I will send you the file.

Could I send it next Monday (17h October: I'd like to have
   as much testing as possibile)?

Also could you give me a last date to submit new releases?
The problem is the translation of some technical GIS
and geometric operations term. Somebody asks to maintain
the english term. Somebody suggests a different translation...
Somebody refuses to use an italianized version... So I'm
working on the diplomatic :-) side... :-)

   Best regards,
   Andrea

-
And from there... nothing more, I never (as I remember) received a
translation file, despite my attempts.

In any case, if you need some help in the translation process, don't hesitate
to contact me.

[JPP-Devel] FOSS4G2006 - proposition for dinner 12th september

2006-08-31 Thread Steve Tanner
Erwan,
I missed you message from 25 of August where you proposed to the OJ
people present to have dinner! So it seems that the idea was already on
the air! So we fix it for tuesday 12th september in the evening?
Stefan,
is it OK to join?
I saw that in the conference program there is from 17h30 to 19h00 the
visit exhibition area (must be in the same location), and then there is
the "Meet together Downtown Event". Is it an activity included in the
conference, or can the participants organize themselves?
I would suggest, if you agree, to meet at around 18h00 in the exhibition
area (if the entrance is allowed for non-registered people like me...),
located in the Amphimax building:

http://www.unil.ch/central/page3032_fr.html

and then to have a beer and dinner in Lausanne, in "Les Brasseurs", an
old fashion brasserie producing special beers and all kinds of food
(among them spécialités alsaciennes!!) for reasonable price.

http://www.les-brasseurs.ch/news/lausanne/index.htm
http://www.les-brasseurs.ch/pdf/carte_lsn.pdf

We can go by tram from the conference place to the restaurant (10
minutes). The restaurant is located 10 minutes away by foot from the
central train station of Lausanne.
Tell me if you like the idea, and if yes I will book a table the day
before (it is a popular place and we need to book)

Best regards,
Steve

Re: [JPP-Devel] A question about internationalization in CursorTools code...

2006-11-19 Thread Steve Tanner
Hello Sunburned,
The I18N method is contained inside the
com.vividsolutions.jump.I18N.java package. You can look at the code to
see how it works.

The method simply fetches the value of the property called
"ui.GUIUtil.jump-workbench-custom-cursor" from the resource file of the
corresponding language (of your machine).
If you look at the source of OpenJump, you will find a folder called:
/language and in this folder you will find the language property files.
The name of the properties are the same for all the languages, but their
value is different for every language.
If you need to add a new property (a new text string used for a menu
item, etc.) you need to add it into ALL the property files, and by
default put the english everywhere.
The properties are classified under a strict order to ease the process
of maintenance/corrections
If a new property is created, it must be inserted at the same location
in ALL the property files.
If you have questions don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,

Steve
