Re: [GNC] Accessing data on a windows share from a link app, (Brad Morrison)

2025-02-21 Thread Mike Brady
Thanks for the pointer. From there, I found the "uservoice" system and
added a feature request to always have a 2-digit minor version (e.g.
6.00, 6.01, etc). Perhaps this is related to the kind of Windows bug
that prevented a version 9, allegedly because it could be confused by
some update or audit software with 95 or 98.

Winget seems to think that 5.10 (installed) is 5.1, and downloads and installs
5.10 *every time I run it*. Annoying and a waste of bandwidth. 5.11 will
probably fix that.

 OK, that explains what happened. There should be weekly Time Machine

Thanks; I was uncertain of the accounting way (or even the GnuCash way) of
recording a cost basis reduction.

Fortunately, another person was able to point me to a return-of-capital
transaction sample in the guide, and that was exactly what I needed.

Not sure if it relevant but was fine before a Windows 10 update a couple of

Not a gnucash question (yet). The accounting question presumably what
accounts to debit or credit. When you received this special "dividend"
check should have been debit cash (your bank account) and credit the
basis of the security (what you paid for it. NOW a gnucash question, and
I can't help, as do not account for stocks in gnucash.

[GNC] Cost basis adjustment

2025-02-21 Thread flywire
I do enough of these to avoid keyboard entry by stripping the data from the
annual pdf statement. eg:
* from
https://github.com/flywire/ETF-Annual-Statement/blob/main/Tax/VAS-annual-tax-statement-2018.pdf
* to
https://github.com/flywire/ETF-Annual-Statement?tab=readme-ov-file#sample-output

I dump all the cost basis adjustments into the one account but it could
easily be written to the security account.
