Re: [GNC] Budget Question and stylesheet question
David, Since everything seems to be working, albeit I still have the $C at the end of the right hand row, I don't think I will try to change anything. However, for future reference, do you mean reboot the computer or relaunch GnuCash? Hi Bob First rule of GnuCash - please always reply to the mailing list so that other readers will: * Know that your problem is resolved, and not chip in * Know that your problem is not resolved, and perhaps not chip in * Learn from your experience > Stand up double, but then how do i print it I run GnuCash on a Windows computer, and printing a report is pretty easy. Once you have sorted out your Report Options and are ready to print, do this: * Main Menu, File, Print Report (shortcut is Ctrl-P) You can also create a PDF file instead, using: * Main Menu, File, Export as PDF I don't have any experience with GnuCash on MAC or Linux, but expect that printing is fairly similar. Re: [GNC] Hide the accounts
Maria, I'm not sure what you're talking about; hiding an account doesn't make the data unrecoverable, it just hides it from view if you tell GnuCash not to display hidden accounts. As Fred suggests in his reply elsewhere, in View->Filter by->Other, you can tell GnuCash to display or suppress hidden accounts. (The zero value setting is independent of the hidden account setting, BTW) Neither you nor Fred point out that each account has two settings that apply to Heidi's issue. One is the Hidden attribute, which Fred and you mentioned. This hides an account from view in the main Chart of Accounts, and may be all that Heidi needs. Using Fred's method is quick and easy, but it should also be noted that this attribute is also available in an account's properties page (Edit->Account). A second attribute, however, is the Placeholder setting. This sets an account to read-only, which generally prevents any additional transactions being added to the account. When this is set for an account, it has the secondary effect of removing the account from the transfer account drop down in all registers. I believe this was the real issue that Heidi was having. Re: [GNC] Dark Theme?
GnuCash should pick up the dark theme from the system but in Edit_Preferences_>Register under Graphics, there is an option to switch off the default GnuCash register colors. That should then revert to the dark theme defaults in the register. Bob, A note on your comments. While I understand your frustration (believe me-- been there!), badmouthing a volunteer team of programmers who have provided this software package free of charge--and supported it for nearly 30 years--is really not a good look. GnuCash has continued to grow and evolve throughout its existence because of the dedication of a (remarkably) small group of programmers, and they have made the best decisions they could with the resources at hand. That they haven't always made the choices that you or I would have is no justification for attacking them. David T. Re: [GNC] When importing an account tree from a csv file, account type information disappears
Thanks, Brad, for the Wiki pointer. No, I had not read it. However, while it says something about importing data from specific banking formats, the treatment of csv file import seems to be concerned with transactions only and not account structures. As for my account Type problem, I think I have solved it and I have circulated the solution on the list (I did not discover your post until just now). As for importing transactions, I have discovered that if the csv file is generated by Excel, it turns out that Excel may add three bytes at the start of the file. These bytes make up a byte order mark (BOM). This mark is interpreted by Excel (and other programs) and not visible. When GnuCash imports a transaction csv file with a BOM, however, this mark is simply displayed as three characters like any other characters. This blocks the import of transactions from the file. I solved this by removing the BOM using a hex editor. This does no seem to happen, however, when GnuCash imports an account hierarchy written to csv from Excel. I am running GnuCash 5.10 (Norwegian download) on Windows 11 Enterprise (British English with localization Norway and bm). Because of the localization, I use semicolon for list element separator and comma as the decimal. Obviously these data may be important for diagnosis. -- Håkon Message: 4 Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2025 01:07:10 -0800 From: Brad Morrison To: gnucash-user@gnucash.org Subject: Re: [GNC] When importing an account tree from a csv file, account type information disappears Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hi Hakon/GnuCash users, https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Importing.2FExporting_Data - have you read this section of the GnuCash Wiki on importing and exporting data? Hi, Thanks to everyone for their insights. I was in error when I said that I had reset it to Locale/Canadian$. When I set it to Locale it still stayed at US$. We live close to the US border so maybe it thinks we are in the US. I changed it to Choose/CAN$ and it now populates the monthly columns. It still shows $C to the right in the yearly totals. Re: [GNC] Edit transaction currency rate window
Hi Richard/GnuCash users, While this might not address your immediate question: https://gnucash.org/download.phtml - the current version of GnuCash is 5.10. If the latest version of GnuCash in the Arch Linux repos is 4.14, you could try the Flatpak version of GnuCash - https://flathub.org/apps/org.gnucash.GnuCash https://flatpak.org/setup/Arch & https://flathub.org/setup/Arch - it looks like Flatpaks work with Arch Linux. --- Thanks, Brad - https://www.facebook.com/brad.morrison.12327/ & https://norcal.social/@BradMorrison On 2025-01-10 08:42, Richard Ullger via gnucash-user wrote: > Hello, > > I was entering a foreign currency transaction and in the edit currency > rate window I clicked on the fetch rate button. > > Gnucash downloaded the rate for the currency pair but it also > downloaded rates for other currencies and all stocks. > > Is this expected behaviour/known bug? > > I'm running gnucash 4.14 on Arch Linux built from source. > > Regards, > > Richard > ___ > gnucash-user mailing list > gnucash-user@gnucash.org > To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: > https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user > - > Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. > You can do this by using Reply-To-List or Reply-All. ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. [GNC] Dark Theme?
Greetings and salutations. I am using Ubuntu 22.04.5 and GNUCash 5.1 . How do I put GNUCash into dark mode? I have Ubuntu's appearance set to dark. In GnuCash preferences I have tried selecting and deselecting "use GnuCash built-in color theme" with no change. Thank you for your help. [GNC] Hide the accounts
Hi, I have been using Gnucash since 2015. During the past 10 years, I did a lot of trading in investment. So I ended up with a long list of asset accounts, now that I am retired, I consolidated all my investments into just a few mutual funds, so all the other asset accounts are zero balance. How can I hide these zero balance asset accounts so every time I record a transaction, I don't have to stroll through all the asset accounts? I did filter the view to not show zero balance. I am using Guncash 4.9 and MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 M1 chip. Thanks. Re: [GNC] Hide the accounts
Hello Heide, A quick search led me to these two results https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2018-August/078966.html https://gnucash.org/docs/v5/C/gnucash-manual/account-options.html#:~:text=The%20Accounts%20tab%20of%20this,accounts%2C%20Show%20zero%20total%20accounts. I recommend you read both together as it might be difficult to recover the accounts later on. I have tested it and it removes the account from view in 5.9, Windows 11, so just check it. I hope this helps. Thanking you. Regards, Maria Inmaculada de la Torre Ruiz On Fri, 10 Jan 2025 at 19:45, Heide Wang wrote: > Hi, I have been using Gnucash since 2015.
