Re: [GNC] "Split" Button not showing - Only "Show Splits"

2024-11-28 Thread David H
What makes you think you're doing anything wrong - the button is called
"Show Splits" ? Where are you expecting to find a "Split" button -
perhaps you're reading section 2.7 of the Tutorial and Concepts Guide, copy
below, which shows an old example screenshot with the button labelled
simply "Split" ??

Cheers David H.

This is what I had to learn as well!
I had the same issue, which was not logical to me...

Well, I took a note and refer to that when I have such transactions.

Re: [GNC] Multi-currency split

2024-11-28 Thread Fred Tydeman
Thank you for your help.

It appears one has to enter values in the currency of the other account,
not the account one is in.

So, I will stick with separate transactions where I do not need to know the
converted values.

Indeed it is.

https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v5/C/gnucash-manual/fq-install.html

Or for those familiar with using "cpan" or "cpanm", simply:

"cpan Finance::Quote" or "cpanm Finance::Quote"

You should upgrade if any of the fixes apply to you... if you don't pull
down quotes, you don't need this update.

As Mr. Losey stated, if you don't pull quotes or the methods you
selected to get quotes work fine, there is no requirement to upgrade.

A workaround that was posted to this list the last time this was
discussed: type a space at the end of your description. That prevents
autocomplete. Finish entering your transaction, then go back and remove
the extra space and hit Enter. (That way the extra-space trick will
still work next time.)

And your GnuCash version? Where did you download it from?

(I'm on 4.14 and the button is labeled "Split" on my Windows 11 laptop.
I wonder if perhaps you downloaded a fork rather than the official version.)

Out of curiosity, why is the label a problem? "Show Splits" is what the
button does, after all. I can understand wondering why yours is
different, but when you say you "looked everywhere for a solution" it
sounds like you regard this as a significant problem.

[GNC] Don't autocomplete

2024-11-28 Thread Fred Tydeman
I am using GnuCash 5.9 on Fedora Linux 41

I am in a cash account entering a new transaction.
In Description, I type "cash" and get a popup of possible completions.
I arrow key up to: Don't autocomplete
I press Tab and it uses one of the existing transactions (not what I want)
and fills in the transfer to account and dollar amount.
I delete that transaction and try again.
This time after arrowing to Don't autocomplete
I press Enter. The popup goes away and the cursor is after "cash".
Then, when I press Tab, the transfer to account and dollar amount
are filled in (again, not what I want).
Delete and try again.
This time after arrowing to Don't autocomplete
I press Enter. The popup goes away and the cursor is after "cash".
Now when I press Enter, nothing is entered for account or amount,
and the transaction is entered.
Is this the expected behaviour?

I was hoping that pressing Tab after Don't autocomplete
would take the cursor to the transfer account field and it
would be blank.

Re: [GNC] Don't autocomplete

2024-11-28 Thread Gyle McCollam
I am using windows 11 GNUCash 5.8.

Autocomplete is only for the description.

1. If you tab while a description is highlighted it will use that description
and fill in the amounts of the last time you used that description.

2. If you arrow up to "Don't autocomplete" and either tab or enter it will use
the information you typed in description. If you have a previous transaction
where the description is the same as your current description it will still
fill in the rest of the transaction based on the last transaction that used
that description.

3. If you hit enter while "Don't autocomplete" is highlighted it goes back to
the description and if you hit enter again it completes that entry with no
information and goes to a blank transaction, unless you have changed your
preferences/register/ and unchecked the box 'Enter' moves to a blank
transaction. That is the first box.

So the short answer is, yes that is how it is supposed to work.

It will only do what you want (I was hoping that pressing Tab after Don't
autocomplete
would take the cursor to the transfer account field and
it
would be blank.), if you have never used the
description currently in the description column.

Thank You,

Gyle McCollam

Subject: [GNC] Don't autocomplete
